I wasted alot of money on 21st century mandrels (.002) I will try to order some .004 mandrels and try a little "thermal coupling". ( I load for hunting mostly.) Some of your points I was aware of and take preventative steps. However, I dont believe many others have considered all of your points or bothered to test them all. Thank you again
I had loaded some ammo with .002” under mandrel and then a .003” under mandrel. Then used an bullet impact puller. The amount of extra force needed to move the bullet, let alone get it out, was significant. I personally use a .003” under mandrel and won’t be running anything with less interference.

I found the info about the cartridges in the magazine coal changing from recoil to be helpful. Its interesting that Fclass shooters, single feed cartridges, and I wonder if that mitagates that issue
Just my own experience here but, I've found it easier to get lower sd/es with a little more "neck tension" I like .004" myself. And it just feels better when seating the bullet.
Good video. I would like to try this with my 20 cal and 17. When I bought mandrels I could only find mandrels for .001 or .002 . I know you like 20BR, so maybe primal rights sub caliber mandrels could fill the niche.
I watched your previous video and gave it a try, since my 6 PPC didn´t shoot great with the low Interference i got after annealing the brass. Got from a .258 down to a .252 bushing, after that i use a 241 Mandrel, didn´t have a .240. Shot it Yesterday at 300 meters (~330 Yards) and got 4 shots in 9mm (.354"), the last shot opend up to 35mm (1.377"), which was my fault. If it wasn´t me for the last one, i would have been a new Range Record for 5 Shots. I´m very happy and will do the same to my other and following calibers.
Never had any big desire to run less than a hot .002 as I call it, might be .0025 or so. Hunting rounds for magazine guns have always been somewhere between .003 & 4. Haven't had any issues with my hunting rounds up to a 450-400NE, 338WM, 7RM, all good. Varmint rds have been on the lighter side, such as the .0025 zone, all.22 cal, haven't had issues on them, all shot in falling blocks. I'd just as soon have perhaps a bit of extra resistance on the bullet, to perhaps help powder build pressure in order to burn properly, whether it really helps, that's another question.
I use to shoot 1000yd benchrest my bullets were seated very soft, had no issues but was running single shot I cannot remember how soft but I could spin them by hand when seated, 308 baer .336nk .30755 button seated .005 off lands. this was in the late 80's things have changed a great deal since, better barrels, actions, scopes, bullets, powders, dies, stocks, triggers, rests, bags, info...diff game these days, group size has gotten much tighter, a agg for a yr use to be 8.5 to 10 inches now it's 3.5 inches or less 2.5 inches shooting has come a long way...with people like yourself explaining the fine details makes it easier for the beginner to learn important details...Great Vid 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I think you have shed light on some of my bullet precision challenges while testing bullet seating variation (bullet tension and bullet diameter variability). In trying to document its effect on precision, will the points you outline, for now - seating depth variations, be reflected in inconsistent velocity?? I’m reweighing each charge (just a digital scale not a balance, sorry) to do the best job I can with limited equipment. In this instance, a 204 in 4X fired Nosler brass, GM205m primers, annealed and full length sized, pocket uniformed and Mandrel expanded for a single feed varmint rifle. The groups are decent but the SD’s are in the 30s! Powders used are XBR, Varget, Benchmark and CFE223. Bullets are 32grain Sierra blitzing, Hornady Zmax and Vmax. Thanks.
@@primalrights HAHAHA....I put my .243 bullets upside down in .223 cases and spray them with Hornady One Shot case lube in order to make them easier to seat with .002thou interference. Man, I've got a lot of learning to do.
I get a difference in brass diameter well hunting ND, in December where my ammo will be in -25 below. So im forced to adjust my die for cartridges shot there then move it back to where ammo was loaded an manly shot at home in Washington state. Is the brass to cold to swell up tight to the chamber? Its the only thing i can think of.
I agree with higher pressure with reduced case capacity by the bullet seating deeper but do you not agree with .070 jump has less pressure than .010 jump to the lands? Do you think there is a line where the pressure will eventually increase due to lower case capacity?
Thank you for the great content. Do the expanders you use have a long lead angle on them? In my limited experience the brass moves more predictable with a blunt end expander.
I've notice that AR-10 the rounds with slam into the feed ramp where it will cut two lines on the bullet not the casing. Well I guess the AR-15 is not eny better I don't own one I'm just gesing.

Yes seating pressure variation can have an effect on velocity. It’s not required for negative results however.

The SAC expanders are fairly abrupt.
