Learn how to sign the words: Mom, Dad, Grandmother, Grandfather. Use the same handshape for all four signs while adding movement to change the meaning.
Notice that female signs are placed near the lower half of the face while male signs are placed near the forehead.
This has been helpful, my 3 year old was delayed in speech so we used speech and sign for him to communicate with us. He’s now talking like crazy but he still loves to sign so I’ve kept teaching myself and him as well.
I’m happy to know that you and your son are still practicing signing together! It is a wonderful language to learn.
@@ASLLOVE we love it! My sister actually started with my oldest when he was little and we carried over with our little one more often than not we find ourselves all talking and signing at the same time. It’s a beautiful language and I wish they taught this in school.
We did the same when my son was 2, for the same reason. We had a speech therapist and then he became the chattiest person ever. Now we use some signs occasionally for practice.
@@christinabrown3322 you will be happy to know that more schools are teaching it and an increasing number of colleges accept it as a language requirement.
@@andreawilson81 it's a great idea to keep some ASL in the conversation. It can be useful for a variety of situations.

This deserves way more likes
Thank you for saying that! 😊
Exceptionally “hurtful” not “painful” someone switched a mom with a best friend’s mom.
Ah, can you show me a handsign for "your" thank you.
Hello! I do not have a video for "your" yet. It is on my list! For now, I can share a clip of a video in which I use the sign for your. Your, his and hers are the same handshape and movement.

hello, I'm a beginner and very hard of hearing. can you tell me the sign for grandchildren i.e. grandson/daughter. Thank you for your contribution to the deaf community.
Hello and thanks for watching. While I don't have a video showing "grandchildren" you can sign (fingerspell) G-R-A-N-D - (and sign) Daughter or Son. Here is a link showing you two different options.www.signasl.org/sign/grandchild
Our son has a daddy (me) and a papa (my partner) since we’re a 2-dad family. How do we sign these two words?
My suggestion would be to sign "Dad" for both since there isn't a separate sign for "Papa." You could create a separate sign as a family. An example could be adding the first letter of your partner's name to the sign for "Dad." This would be an example of a home sign or a name sign. Something unique to you and your family which would allow you to recognize the difference between the signs.
@@ASLLOVE Should I first tap the open five hand to my forehead and then tap the letter G to the same spot?
@@GHJ_Music it is entirely up to you but if I were going to sign it, I would do it that way. Establish the sign for “Dad” first.
@@ASLLOVE Thanks so much. it’s fascinating beyond belief watching our one-year-old acquire communication skills
@@GHJ_Music It really is. I’m happy to know that your family is communicating together using ASL.
On another account they said dad was different hand sign.
What exactly did they show? Was it similar at all?
@@ASLLOVE not sure.
It was having your pointer finger on top lip like your smelling it (lol) and then spread fingers out like your saying hello.

@@adamsfamilyvlog I have to wonder if it was an English based sign. There are a lot of videos using British Sign Language, etc. I never saw it signed in ASL that way.
