This is truly the run 8 ball shines not because it is good per ce but because of the sheer amount of hands and the lack of discards

1:01:01 when you get back the ticket, wouldn't it make more sense to play pairs (or, when possible, flush houses) for double the money to find the obelisk as you already have 250+ high cards ?

The more High Card we play earlier, the more Pairs we can get away with while still building up the deck. Also, we have more freedom in the endgame. We can play 7 hand types 300 times each instead of 8 hand types 250 times each, etc.

The thing that’s intriguing about Obelisk is that it will always eventually reset - you can only play as much hands until every hand is tied as the most played hand, and then Obelisk is guaranteed to reset.
EDIT: or at least, that’s how the Balatro Wiki states that. Psychic can actually bypass that.

If you always reroll the boss into the Psychic (or other bosses which cause hands not to score), then you can play High Card more times without the Obelisk "resetting." Then the Obelisk would never reset, even if you played for an infinite number of Antes.

Which playing cards appear in Arcana Packs is already determined when you enter the shop. No cards obtained during shopping will appear in Packs of the same shop.
Holding onto Death, in general, blocks 8 Ball from spawning Tarot. If you add random cards to the deck, you might not draw them early enough to use Death on them.
Although being in a hurry to fill the deck, we do have some requirements. We need to have access to a Flush at all times, or else we just lose. Adding too many cards of the wrong suit is not advised. We also can't ever play High Card. If we add random Spades, a hand of Spades with no Pairs is a round-ender (wherein Flush is forced). Therefore, we want to limit new cards to repeat ranks whenever possible (so we will always have access to Pair, Two Pair, and Three of a Kind).
