I did thumbs you up but you got one thing Wrong. Wiping it while it has some moisture/wet will make it safer...MUCH safer from scratches. Ideally, never wipe when dry. Optometrist here.
This vid has been useful. I use the soap and water technique for real dirty lenses, but always wondered if I should be doing this. Glad to see it's not a problem :).
Great Video! Learned a few new cleaning tips- keep it up! what works for me sometimes is spraying the cloth with the cleaning fluid and wipe the lenses, this works for quickly removing finger prints or with full frame sunglasses to avoid the liquid from drying up between the frame and lenses, since you cant clean them without removing the lenses.
Im so glad that you made this video. I was just about to send you a message asking if there was anything other I can do to clean them other than using the cloth that the glasses came with. Thanks so much Luis. Keep up the great work!
I have been cleaning my lenses with dish soap, water, and my fingers (just like in this video)for years. It gets the lenses absolutely clean with no chance of scratching. I don’t bother with the cleaning kits. You can gently pat dry with any cloth or napkin. The softer the material the less gentle you need to be.
100% correct! Drop or two of Dawn soap goes a long way. Shake excess water and dry with microfiber cloth. Perfect clean lenses and wash skin oil off of frame also. 🕶️
@MrJephreester the oakley lens cleaning kit was designed specifically for oakley lenses. the warning on the package was actually done before the cleaning kit was made and never changed so the cleaning compounds they are talking about are the over the counter type you buy at a pharmacy. the whole soap and water is more as a last resort or if you get something reallly nasty or sticky on the lens. i myself have never had to use soap and water and find that just using the cleaning kit works fine
@pf1962153 yes, it is perfectly fine to use the inside or outside of the micro fiber bag to clean the lenses. The reason the other version probably said to use the inside is because it is less prone to be dirty since it doesn't come in contact with any surfaces but if the outside is clean then you can go ahead and use it. Cleaning the lenses with water and soap should only be done if they are extremely dirty, so not that often but you should be fine doing it.
@Donutz41 i generally use it about every other day. I keep it on the shelf next to my glasses and spray it on the lenses before leaving the house. i'm lucky though because i have about 4 Oakley store within 30 minutes drive of my house so i can get it refilled anytime
@WorldWorstRetadin that's actually a sample of oakley's hydrophobic solution. you "paint" it on the lens and then clean it off with the cloth. it's supposed to repel water and sweat from the lens.
Hi, i have the Sliver F Black Matte Black iridium Polarized, it has a really tiny buble. I have sprayed with the Oakley Lens Cleaner a couple of times today and the buble is still there. The bubble doesn't obstruct the vision or anything but is there anything else to do to take out that bubble? Thanks in advance.
Great video, lots of good tips for taking care of sunglasses. One question, I noticed you say to 'air dry' lenses after you've washed them with soap and water. The water where I live is very hard, to prevent the alkali from building up on the lens would you recommend drying the lens immediately after washing?
I have other microfiber cloths that work better at cleaning the lens then the bag. The bag smears but the cloth that i use that works better has somewhat of a moist feel to it but its not moist at all and it works way better. I was wondering is the cloth that comes with the kit exactly like the bag or does it have a different feel to it
I want to buy polarized oakley scalpel but I don't know what are the pros or con of having them polarized. Is there anyway you can make a video on how they work? Thank you
@paulhipona yes but i probably would not recommend doing that because you can have water stay in the crease between the lens and the frame and t might rott
I have the Oakley fuel cell sunglasses polarized. I bought them from sunglass hut along with the their sunglass spray cleaner and cloth. I use the spray and the microfiber cloth and it just doesn't get the job done. I cant get the streaks out and there is still fibers and stuff around the edges of the lens. will the fuel cell lenses pop in and out of the frames as easily as the glasses in the video?
@spartanpanda22 it depends on how smooth the towel is i guess. if it resembles the micro fiber bad that comes with the glasses then i guess it would work
Use barkeepers friend to scrub your sink.. Cleans that shit right up! Great stuff! As far as the lenses.. rinse under water first.. then spray.. wipe..
Does the same procedure work for prescription lenses? I just got my prescription polarized Oakley sunglasses and fear they will never be as clean as they were when I took them out of the bag. I wear them everyday in a hot, sometimes dusty environment.
it should work the same for prescription lenses. the only thing i would say is that i believe prescription lenses are a bit thicker than regular lenses so just be careful if you have to pop them in and out of the frame
Hi. thanks for sharing the info...I hav a question, I don,t have access to Oakley lens cleaning kit at my place...so how could i clean my lens, can i use distilled water??
@eyespy0099 I was just wondering that ruby lens have any scratches on it? like tiny ones? I seem to be getting them on my oakley and I was just wondering if it was just because of time.
@eyespy0099 You make it look easy :) Thanks again, I just broke down some glasses & it was amazing all the gunk that builds up in the frames. Great video!
Does oakley cleaning safe to use on rudy project lens? Is washing the glasses with water and soap safe for the glasses? Will it cause the tint to peel off?
Hi, i have a Moto GP Fuel cell which comes with a white microbag which easily gets dirty when i clean my Fuel cells. How often should i wash my microbag? thanks
i bought mine a few years ago. and i feel there wearing, the lens. i also lost the bag but they're still OK. i think. so would you please send me a bag with the gel.
The store will either give you one....or charge you $4 (you can clean the lenses with your fingers under warm water (using dish soap) Problem is, then what? They'll dry clean, but with spots (so you need a bag brother!)
Hi eyespy0099, are you 100% sure to use the outside of the bag to clean the lens, I ask this because I have seen another cleaning version of cleaning the lens with in inside layer of the bag, so I am confused. Also Oakley site also did mention never rub the iridium lens while they are wet......what is your opinion and advice? Thanks :-)i
i never clean my glasses with a dry microfibre, the risk of scratches and swirl marks is to high, i also dont use alcohol stuff. Just normal soap/dishwashing liquid and alot of water. Of course you can use the expensive oakley liquid as well.
@Soldier22Jake I tried making a video but you can't really see the difference. I'll give you a quick example of what polarized is. Imagine you are looking out your window with the blinds open and the glare is coming in and hitting your so you have to squint in order to see. well if you turn your blinds just enough to block out the glare so you can see clearly and not have to squint well that's what polarized is, a filter in the lens that blocks out 99% of glare. hope that helps.
How To Repair Peeled Off Oakley Lenses: 1. Remove the lenses from the frame. 2. Fully soak the lenses in dish washing liquid for 5 minutes. 3. Rinse in water while gently rubbing the surface with microfiber cloth. 4. You're welcome!
I understand your method may remove this layer, but what good are the lenses once the lay is removed? I'd think you'd be better off with a frayed layer than to remove an important part of the lens.
All the sunglasses are made at the same company. I just bought my first oakley rotor sunglasses. It will be my last to. Ive baby them and still have a tiny scratch or two. The frames looked all scratched up and they only go from my head to my cloth sun visor. There not worth the price.
Oakley so expensive and they don't make their glasses tough and durable like scratch proof or a kind that don't make their lenses prone to bubbles from sweat. Never gonna buy oakleys again. The frane and lenses are worthy but not in terms of ruggedness and durability. I got my second Holbrook polarized and still got easily scratch and form some tiny bubbles on it. Unfortunate.
Doesn't matter.. Buyer Beware. I owned 2 models both with AR/Iridium coating on the outside. I took care of them cleaned them properly and the coatings on both models peeled like yesterdays news paper.. Will never ever buy Oakleys again.
Absolutely YES - Hey Julius, wet your lenses before rubbing with your fingers. Then add a bit of your dish detergent to your wet glasses, rub it in and wash with your fingers.....rinse the glasses, let them dry and THEN clean with your Oakley Microfiber bag.
I did thumbs you up but you got one thing Wrong. Wiping it while it has some moisture/wet will make it safer...MUCH safer from scratches. Ideally, never wipe when dry. Optometrist here.

I definitely picked up some great tips here. Free refills for life is AMAGING! Thanks bro
Thx man I have a baseball game today and this really cleaned my Oakley prizm’s 10/10
Thanks for the advice I went out and bought the Oakley cleaning kit today.
Ty for video sir...I'm enjoying my new ducati pitbulls which just came in today... Love them

Danke dir! Es war sehr hilfsreich 👍

@Donutz41 i would say only when you use them, unless you move them from were you normally keep them there is no need to spray them.
Good gouge. My M frames get pretty gross when I'm out running and such and they get really sweaty and gooey. My last set got bubbled and weird.
Buy a gallon of distilled water from the grocery store. It costs only about $1.00.
@Soldier22Jake good to hear and i hope it works out for you

@GreatOmeglePranks if you can you should be able to take it to an oakley store and have them check it out
What do you recommend for cleaning the frames? Say you are on a long hot outdoor hike and dripping sweat all day?
Great video, lots of good tips for taking care of sunglasses. One question, I noticed you say to 'air dry' lenses after you've washed them with soap and water. Good helpful video... nice info to know.

Dishwashing liquid is the best for sunnies, they come up squeaky clean.
After many years of using ur sunglasses, did you ever have the bubbling or peeling off issue?
I want to buy polarized oakley scalpel but I don't know what are the pros or con of having them polarized. Is there anyway you can make a video on how they work? Thank you
Is Anti-reflective lens cleaner would do the job too? Thanks for the video :-)
@paulhipona yes but i probably would not recommend doing that because you can have water stay in the crease between the lens and the frame and t might rott
@Lookinformemarbles it definitely makes then very versatile

yes you can clean the radar frame. water and soap should be fine
@tbug50 i'm not sure if they carry it but doesn;t hurt to check
Would you recommend getting the Oakley cleaning kit if you have a pair of Oakley's? Thanks
Use barkeepers friend to scrub your sink.. Cleans that shit right up! Great stuff! As far as the lenses.. rinse under water first.. then spray.. wipe..

yes that's fine just make sure you use the micro fiber bad to dry them so you don't scratch them
Need to clean that sink.
Barkeeper's Friend is the best for that..
@Soldier22Jake yes, it think it would be a great addition and like i said for only $10 to $15 you get it refilled for free for life
@CampfireTalk no problem. definitely something to pick up and have.
PS. i'm just that fast at cranking them out lol
@eyespy0099 I was just wondering that ruby lens have any scratches on it? like tiny ones? I seem to be getting them on my oakley and I was just wondering if it was just because of time.
@eyespy0099
thank you mate! your help is much appreciated!!
@eyespy0099 You make it look easy :)

@CampfireTalk i know, they need to be cleaned regularly
How To Repair Peeled Off Oakley Lenses:
1. Remove the lenses from the frame.
2. Fully soak the lenses in dish washing liquid for 5 minutes.
3. Rinse in water while gently rubbing the surface with microfiber cloth.
4. You're welcome!
and what is that going to do to the lenses? Repair??
it will evenly remove the peeled off layer
yes
I understand your method may remove this layer, but what good are the lenses once the lay is removed? I'd think you'd be better off with a frayed layer than to remove an important part of the lens.

It's seems it's more difficult cleaning the polarized lenses. Drives me crazy.
I'll have to pick up the cleaning kit from Oakley!

Are other brand or third party lens cleaners/coatings ok to use with Oakley's?

+Ronald Jerry unfortunately there is no way to remove scratches

who's watching this on 2017 to fix their vintage frogskins 👌
Hi I have a Shaun White Holbrook 24kgold lens w/ matte clear frame... Is it okay if i wash it up with soap without taking off the lens?
Absolutely YES - Hey Julius, wet your lenses before rubbing with your fingers. Then add a bit of your dish detergent to your wet glasses, rub it in and wash with your fingers.....rinse the glasses, let them dry and THEN clean with your Oakley Microfiber bag.
