I have used this method on slow PVC drains and it has worked every time. I get the water in the kettle very hot to almost the time the kettle starts to whistle. Have never tried on clogged drains. On clogged drains I usually take PVC trap apart and rod the drain.

You may have to block the overflow because this works on pressure from the chemical reaction so if the overflow which is higher up on the bathtub allows the gas to escape it won’t unclog the drain

We’ve gotten all copper pipes house is probably 45 years old
BUt hot water will not. I have PVC, and no issues.

Had standing water in my tub so I had to do this process twice then use a plunger, but it worked thankfully

Just Hass to be white vinegar react with the baking soda and hopefully I’ll unplug that drain

It was draining really slow, but eventually, I did have to auger out the drain. I have have a video on that too.

I believe PVC can handle it, but we do have copper pipes, and so far it isn’t Crackin but who knows

You may need an auger to clear the drain. I have a couple of videos on that.

Can't pour that much water down the drain. Backs up after a cup at most.

That is not true. I have done it with boiling water, baking soda, vinegar, salt every 10 minutes and it does not stop the slow drainage.
