I tried this procedure many times, even resetting Firestick Gen 3 to factory default settings to no avail. I switched off my VPN on my phone and BINGO the procedure worked. Thanks to Chris for his video. I hope this information helps someone else. I was tearing my hair out and I have no hair!

Thanks Chris Waite. I have mousetoggle 1.11 installed on Fire TV stick 4K OS 6.7.02 (NS6702/5093). When i type..."cd /data/local/tmp/.mousetoggle" i get "not found". However if i type "cd /data/local/tmp" i get $ which means the folder is correct but i suspect "mousetoggle" is listed under a another name??? Is there way to find out where it is located????

*WORKING IN OCTOBER 2024!!* 😂 OMG! I got it to work!! First here’s what we all were doing wrong! You should be typing. For the first line its: ( cd )space then ( /data ) Make sure there’s a space after ( cd ) There should be no space between ( tmp/ ) and (.mouseg) they should be together! This is where you guys are running into the error. Hope that helped! Just copy and paste the directives from remote ADB & save in your notes on your phone or tablet. Once again! Thank you 🙏🏼 Chris!
You've got one mistake here in your description (though it's undoubtedly saved correctly in your Command Line memory). In no place is the 'tmp/' followed by '.mouseg' (it should immediately be followed by '.mousetoggle') No quotes, obviously. It is the 2nd and 3rd commands that have ... ./nmouseg stop THEN ... ./nmouseg start (Notice the 'n' in each!) Mine has worked pretty consistently (with both my OS6 and OS7 FireSticks) since I first watched Chris' video in February. However, within the last month or so, I HAVE started to have issues with LOSING THE VIRTUAL MOUSE AFTER 'FORCE-CLOSING' my Android 13 phone's 'Remote ADB Shell' app (whereas I never did until recently)! That's the reason I came back to check the comments here today ... to see if Chris ever found a more elegant way to close the app? IT APPEARS NOT. However, right before making this comment, I DID go through the process on BOTH my OS6 and OS7 sticks. I deliberately force-closed the app (fully expecting to lose the mouse functionality) ... and on both, my double-clicking was failing to bring the mouse cursor alive immediately (like it used to, before this issue came up) ... BUT this time, I eventually got the cursor to return on BOTH devices!! However, it resisted working for a good 30-odd seconds, or so! This is WEIRD! When I first noticed the problem, I had made sure to change slightly the speed of my fast, double-clicking ... but that hadn't helped! However, TODAY it did (after the short delay). It's possible that I wasn't patient enough when it first became a problem (and I just went through the ADB Command Line process to bring it back, but didn't force-close Shell on my phone) ... but until a month ago, I NEVER HAD TO DO THAT!! It's weird. I'll keep trying to wait the 30-40 seconds from now on, just to see if it will continue to survive the 'force-closing.' 🤞 Anyway, I wanted to mention it to see if anyone else who has been using the process, was having the same issue I have been?? Please let me know! 👍
@@bigkahuna2084 😅I’m not sure what you mean! But I haven’t had any issues or had to re-input on updates! Still working fine! Once I had the mouse working! I closed out the internet on my phone and then I closed out the shell ABD app No need to have the Shell ADB app running on your phone.
@@juancabrera5213 I don't believe this works at all for iPhones. I think these ADB Command codes are just for Android-based devices (but I could be wrong). I'm thinking either Chris mentions this somewhere in the video OR maybe he addressed it somewhere else in the comment thread? Try and address him directly about it. Maybe things have come up since last February?
I can’t get this to work, when I try and change directory to mouse toggle it just says directory not found. I checked 4 times to see that I’m typing in the correct command but it just won’t work 😢
@@cwtek1 Hi Chris, any chance for a similar command so that Launcher Manager 1.1.9 works on a FS Max 1st gen so that custom launchers, specifically Wolf Manager, can work automatically
@@user-of4sd1rm8r unfortunately the whole launcher manager would not survive a reboot and therefore would probably give you a blank screen in the end and possibly trash your device.
I never thought I could find a video that actually works to solve the firestick mouse toggle problem. I watched this video and wrote down every step word for word. Omg! It worked and I was so over joy! Love this video to the moon and back. I give you thumbs up and 5 stars! ❤❤❤

It works, thanks a lot! That's essential to enable [ADB debugging] even when connecting from a mobile device. I didn't think of directly run/stop the mouse service from a remote , but that's just one of an Android device. If you could set up a batch, it might work even after a reboot, but it sounds a bit cumbersome. I'm looking forward to hearing more updates. Please keep us posted, Cheers :)
@@cwtek1 💯 percent the rii and ipazz are Bluetooth but some have mentioned issues connecting them by Bluetooth. That’s why I started suggesting otg cable.

Hi Chris, I have 3 Fire TV Stick 4K running Fire OS 6.7.0.4 and all using mouse toggle version 1.11 2 out the 3 works using this procedure. At one time the 3rd worked but for some reason it stopped. There no mousetoggle file,folder or directory so the command cd /data/local/tmp/.mousetoggle is going to return "no such file or directory". Question: when you say keep trying inputting the command or you referring to the command "cd /data/local/tmp/.mousetoggle" or you saying start over at turning mouse toggle off and back on and restart/reboot fire stick and do all the commands thats in this procedure. I recall i say a message from Amazon on one of their updates that some directory and file was going to be moved to /sdcard/data but the fire stick that failing do not have the directory /escard/data/.... thanks for any help and video. Great video...!!!!

I also have the same issue and I'm also using the ftv4k device like yours. It worked for me last time, but when I factory reset my device this method doesn't work anymore. It also says "no such file or directory". I also have same FireOS version like you. Please tell me if you got any solutions to this. I regret resetting my device🤦🏻♂️
Update! I finally get it to work lol. I think tried like almost a hundred times and still getting "no such file or directory" and now i finally it's working. Now, here's I remember on what I did keep trying to turn on/off the mouse toggle button while also turning on/off the adb setting. And try to restart your device before performing the commands. Another thing is try to install mousetoggle app in your phone. Open it and there you can see "Select send to start" click the send button below and it will start to load if adb permission pops up on your tv while doing the process, just allow(mine popped multiple times even i allowed it already, but i just allow all of it until it says installation successful in your mobile phone. That's all I remember.

I only have a iphone and the app store for iphone have removed the mousetoggle app. I also have a problem with the size of "mouse toggle for fire tv" version 1.11 app (4.48 MB)installed on the fire stick. On a good fire stick the size of the app 3.82 MB. Where did you download the mouse toggle for fire tv version 1.11 from (link)..
I've not had any problems with my Mouse Toggle on my Firestick 4K Max but I'm using a different Mouse Toggle than the one your using in the video...but thanks for the heads up...keep up the good work my man.

Sadly Remote ADB Shell was made for an older version of Android according to the Play Store so this method won't work for me. Got a solution or is there another way to navigate Chrome on FireStick? I just need a way to use Chrome more easily without having to hook up a mouse.
Tried loads of different fixes that failed to work and this Definitely still works October 24. Tried on fire cube after this comment and it didn't work on that, but did older firesticks
On 2nd gen 4k its not working. I noticed that right from the begining when i entered the ip adrress the command line read different. Your device in the video started with (kara) on mine it said karat, pretty interesting... and then right from the start it was appearing with NO SUCH FILE FOUND IN DIRECTORY, then on the second line it read INACCESSIBLE OR NOT FOUND. it sucks... but i thank you for trying and always putting out solid info. Im glad it worked for many in the comunity. Have a great summer... AND KEEP CUTTING THOSE CORDS EVERYBODYB❤
How did you find this out? Like one other user poster I use Zank remote App as the receiver for TCP IP Commands from my automation system. Of course with the new update it complains there is a computer or device connected via ADB and I am wondering if I did something similar with this app if it would work. Any thoughts you may have on where to start looking would be awesome! Good job btw!

I have more than one firestick in my home. I've only used it on one so far successfully. Can we use this for more than one firestick? Or do I have to download this app to multiple devices for the separate firesticks?

I'm not Chris, but I can tell you this process DOES work for your device (because I have both!). The codename 'mantis' identifies your standard (original) 'Fire TV Stick 4K', which is a 'FireOS 6' system device. I have TWO of these still and this process works on both of them! So, I expect you are not following the instructions perfectly. I would rewatch the video over again to see where you're messing up (incl. space typos, clicking boxes you shouldn't, etc, etc.). I also have the device Chris is using in the video. The codename, 'kara' identifies the 'Fire TV Stick MAX, 1st Gen' (OS7). The process obviously works on it for me (as Chris demonstrates in his video)! The only thing I don't know, is if this process works on the two newest 'OS8' FireSticks ... it may not? But your 'mantis' 4K stick WILL work ... IF you follow everything EXACTLY as in his video! The only thing different, is that it has the hard-to-see, translucent circle cursor! But it DOES work! You gotta' figure out what step(s) you are messing up. Good luck!

Will this method help with other commands such as keeping the fire stick from going to sleep with an ADB command four other commands that are useful through ADB shell?
Thank you sir it works. I tried from 1.12 version. After the start command it will show you status as starting but in actual it has started. Just double press play button and you will able to see mouse cursor. Kindly let me know if there is any permanent solution.

Thank you, Mr. Waite. Your video was very helpful. However, I had to turn on my Wi-Fi on my phone for the USB debugging notification to show up on my firestick. I suppose because I'm using a wireless connection the notification wouldn't show up initially without my Wi-Fi. Also when viewing the mouse toggle app the notification never changed to started on my firestick, it remains on starting but the arrow still shows up after clicking the play button twice. Nevertheless everything else in this video is definitely spot on and I appreciate it. 👌🏾💯👍🏾👏🏾🫶🏾.
keep trying it took me about 8 goes before it found the directory, don’t know why it takes a few goes before it’s found, but it does eventually find it.
@@cwtek1 Yeah, I did that about 7 or 8 times already. And different ways, too. I give up. The general consensus is that the latest updates have indeed blocked third party apps that use ADB. I thought there might be some ADB command to get around that, but there just isn't. If you got it to work, it's because you're running one of the os's that they did not patch like that. And TechDocUK already pointed that out. His App Killer app requires USB debugging, too. And it no longer works on most FTV devices. Next, there will be no more side loading. Buy a Shield.
@@SloppyGoat I just did this again because my fire tv got restarted and it worked again with no problems. And no, I dont have "one of those os's that they did not patch". You are just doing something wrong.
@@paIadin7 No, I don't think so. I've been doing this for a long time. I guarantee you I know more about this than you. It has to depend on how old your device is, or something. Mine will never be updated to a later OS. They're all the very first 4K sticks. Now, if I do a full reset, then I'm sure it will work. As long as I don't update it. I'm already too frustrated with it to even mess with it anymore, because it's not for me anyway. I use Nvidia Shields now. Firesticks are just toys, in comparison.

The OS is never going to be updated. I don't even care to mess with it anymore, because it's not even for me. I started out with Firesticks. I've done all of this before. I moved on to Nvidia Shields a long time ago, and they make Firesticks look like toys.

I have been able to get this and the cache clearing from your other video working from my Samsung S23+ to the firesticks. Any chance of a video on doing a force stop on all apps like TDUK's app used to do? Thanks for your help on these issues.
UPDATE: It still works. All the other times it worked, I was using my Samsung Galaxy S10+ so I went back to my old phone and it worked perfectly. The phone is did not work on was the S24+.

November 2024. Tried all that a million times, doesn’t work. It says file not found etc

I’ve just started suggesting in my groups that if users need a mouse. Buy a iPazz or Rii remote with an otg cable. Thanks for the video btw.

Hi Chris, I have 3 Fire TV Stick 4K running Fire OS 6.7.0.4 and all using mouse toggle version 1.11 2 out the 3 works using this procedure. At one time the 3rd worked but for some reason it stopped. There no mousetoggle file,folder or directory so the command cd /data/local/tmp/.mousetoggle is going to return "no such file or directory". Question: when you say keep trying
inputting the command or you referring to the command "cd /data/local/tmp/.mousetoggle" or you saying start over at turning mouse toggle off and back on and restart/reboot fire stick and do all the commands thats in this procedure. I recall i say a message from Amazon on one of their updates that some directory and file was going to be moved to /sdcard/data but the fire stick that failing do not have the directory /escard/data/.... thanks for any help and video. Great video...!!!!

I also have the same issue and I'm also using the ftv4k device like yours. It worked for me last time, but when I factory reset my device this method doesn't work anymore. It also says "no such file or directory". I also have same FireOS version like you. Please tell me if you got any solutions to this. I regret resetting my device🤦🏻♂️
Update! I finally get it to work lol. I think tried like almost a hundred times and still getting "no such file or directory" and now i finally it's working. Now, here's I remember on what I did keep trying to turn on/off the mouse toggle button while also turning on/off the adb setting. And try to restart your device before performing the commands. Another thing is try to install mousetoggle app in your phone. Open it and there you can see "Select send to start" click the send button below and it will start to load if adb permission pops up on your tv while doing the process, just allow(mine popped multiple times even i allowed it already, but i just allow all of it until it says installation successful in your mobile phone. That's all I remember.

I only have a iphone and the app store for iphone have removed the mousetoggle app. I also have a problem with the size of "mouse toggle for fire tv" version 1.11 app (4.48 MB)installed on the fire stick. On a good fire stick the size of the app 3.82 MB. Where did you download the mouse toggle for fire tv version 1.11 from (link)..

I've not had any problems with my Mouse Toggle on my Firestick 4K Max but I'm using a different Mouse Toggle than the one your using in the video...but thanks for the heads up...keep up the good work my man.

You can power the firestick on a separate power point to your TV and the toggle will stay on if you leave stick powered.
It might stop working when updates come through and the stick needs to restart.

Sadly Remote ADB Shell was made for an older version of Android according to the Play Store so this method won't work for me. Got a solution or is there another way to navigate Chrome on FireStick? I just need a way to use Chrome more easily without having to hook up a mouse.

On 2nd gen 4k its not working. I noticed that right from the begining when i entered the ip adrress the command line read different. Your device in the video started with (kara) on mine it said karat, pretty interesting... and then right from the start it was appearing with NO SUCH FILE FOUND IN DIRECTORY, then on the second line it read INACCESSIBLE OR NOT FOUND. it sucks... but i thank you for trying and always putting out solid info. Im glad it worked for many in the comunity. Have a great summer... AND KEEP CUTTING THOSE CORDS EVERYBODYB❤
How did you find this out? Like one other user poster I use Zank remote App as the receiver for TCP IP Commands from my automation system. Of course with the new update it complains there is a computer or device connected via ADB and I am wondering if I did something similar with this app if it would work.
Any thoughts you may have on where to start looking would be awesome! Good job btw!

Can you not just *exit* out of adb shell? Or is the issue that the cursor prompt doesn't appear after ./nmouseg start command?
Yes the prompt does not reappear, so the exit command does not work.
Just hold your finger on your command window. You should see 3 options. Click "exit terminal".

I found it easier just getting a cheap eBay tablet keyboard and using the mouse trackpad after connecting Bluetooth to the stick 👍

I have more than one firestick in my home. I've only used it on one so far successfully. Can we use this for more than one firestick? Or do I have to download this app to multiple devices for the separate firesticks?
You can use on more than one Firestick, you just need to type the other firesticks IP address in Remote ADB when doing this.

Input the code then enable the mouse function by pressing the pause/play button twice.... disable the mouse function by pressing pause/button twice.

Mine is the Firestick lite Version I have de Mouse Toggle v1.06 and the ADB Shell commands didn´t work
Please try the commands a few times, on mine it took about 5 or 6 attempts for the command to work and be recognised, I am not sure why this is.

I'm not Chris, but I can tell you this process DOES work for your device (because I have both!).
The codename 'mantis' identifies your standard (original) 'Fire TV Stick 4K', which is a 'FireOS 6' system device.
I have TWO of these still and this process works on both of them! So, I expect you are not following the instructions perfectly. I would rewatch the video over again to see where you're messing up (incl. space typos, clicking boxes you shouldn't, etc, etc.).
I also have the device Chris is using in the video. The codename, 'kara' identifies the 'Fire TV Stick MAX, 1st Gen' (OS7). The process obviously works on it for me (as Chris demonstrates in his video)!
The only thing I don't know, is if this process works on the two newest 'OS8' FireSticks ... it may not?
But your 'mantis' 4K stick WILL work ... IF you follow everything EXACTLY as in his video! The only thing different, is that it has the hard-to-see, translucent circle cursor!
But it DOES work! You gotta' figure out what step(s) you are messing up.

To exit the app, you just need to long press on the screen, and the menu will pop up. Then, you can select the exit of the terminal.

Thank you, Mr. Waite. Your video was very helpful. However, I had to turn on my Wi-Fi on my phone for the USB debugging notification to show up on my firestick. I suppose because I'm using a wireless connection the notification wouldn't show up initially without my Wi-Fi. Also when viewing the mouse toggle app the notification never changed to started on my firestick, it remains on starting but the arrow still shows up after clicking the play button twice. Nevertheless everything else in this video is definitely spot on and I appreciate it. 👌🏾💯👍🏾👏🏾🫶🏾.
Sorry I forgot to say that your phone does need to be on the same Wi-Fi network to make the remote connection to your firestick.

I believe it's just fire os 7 mouse toggle doesn't work on fireos 8 anyway and I don't think the adb block is affecting fireos 5 or 6.

This doesn't work at all. I can get to the directory, but it just says .mousetoggle can't be found.
keep trying it took me about 8 goes before it found the directory, don’t know why it takes a few goes before it’s found, but it does eventually find it.

Yeah, I did that about 7 or 8 times already. And different ways, too. I give up. The general consensus is that the latest updates have indeed blocked third party apps that use ADB. I thought there might be some ADB command to get around that, but there just isn't. If you got it to work, it's because you're running one of the os's that they did not patch like that. And TechDocUK already pointed that out. His App Killer app requires USB debugging, too. And it no longer works on most FTV devices. Next, there will be no more side loading. Buy a Shield.

No, I don't think so. I've been doing this for a long time. I guarantee you I know more about this than you. It has to depend on how old your device is, or something. Mine will never be updated to a later OS. They're all the very first 4K sticks. Now, if I do a full reset, then I'm sure it will work. As long as I don't update it. I'm already too frustrated with it to even mess with it anymore, because it's not for me anyway. I use Nvidia Shields now. Firesticks are just toys, in comparison.

Damn it! I just replied to this, and all my words are gone. No, I'm sure it would work if I reset it, and never updated it. But these are the very first 4K Firesticks. The OS is never going to be updated.
I don't even care to mess with it anymore, because it's not even for me. I started out with Firesticks. I've done all of this before.
I moved on to Nvidia Shields a long time ago, and they make Firesticks look like toys.

In Remote ADB, after I enter cd /data/local/tmp/.mousetoggle - I get the response - "/system/bin/sh: cd: /data/local/tmp/.mousetoggle: No such file or directory" - What am I doing wrong??

I have been able to get this and the cache clearing from your other video working from my Samsung S23+ to the firesticks. Any chance of a video on doing a force stop on all apps like TDUK's app used to do? Thanks for your help on these issues.

Hi Chris, I find using a Wireless mouse with receiver and an OTG Cable far more smooth. Mine is a Logitech 170.

UPDATE: It still works. All the other times it worked, I was using my Samsung Galaxy S10+ so I went back to my old phone and it worked perfectly. The phone is did not work on was the S24+.

Use the command "./ngmouse start &" this will start it in the background and return the ADB shell.
