I actually wished it was longer. The "We'll be right back after this commercial break" moments were comic relief from the horror.
Yeah it goes by very fast! - James
The funniest part of the movie is the endless stream of title cards at the beginning...
So so funny hahahahah
This movie rocks, the symbols themes, wardrobe, acting, score, plot is mysterious and such a tease, leaves it up to you. This will be a cult fave
I just got back from seeing this movie. It is VERY good!👏🏼😀👏🏼
Yeah we both loved it! What did you think of the ending?
I just saw it at 3pm in St. Louis, today. I liked it. Ending could have been a little different. But it was really good movie.
Agreed!
@@OneGoodScareShow --- I took cinematography in college and they made that ending so it gives viewers something to talk about it. I figured it out. Since Jack's wife was there and he seen her in a flashback, it was the girl who wanted to die but was talking thru his wife. She did not want the devil in her.
Pretty impressive for a very low budget Aussie film. I think David was the only non Australian in it.
I think his wife was trying to get to him...before everything happened.
Oh I think so too, like when he sees her on the camera that's definitive. I just think he had scripted with the televangelist a bit about his wife - James
I don't think so, if there's anything that's known about demons, is that they're playfully malicious like deadites, they relish in toying with their food. The wife, specifically the image, voice, and name of the wife were only a puppet to provoke these intense emotions in the showhost.
His wife wasn't dead, the Grove faked her death and kept her in their secret evil villain HQ with a personal medical staff. She needed a blood sacrifice of a virgin girl to cure her cancer, Molech doesn't accept adult souls, just virgin girls and sacrifices must be by bloodletting and immediate, not a long term illness like cancer, therefore Jack didn't make the deal for Minnie's soul, she made the deal for Jack to sacrifice Lilly to save herself.
Molech was already denied Lilly once when the Cult of Abraxas (not a god, just the word that summons Molech) tried using her for some dastardly wish from the evil Canaanite god/demon but were interrupted by the FBI and went all David Koresh, so everything was set up, faking Minnie's death and hooking Jack up with June by leaving her book on his desk, to get Lilly on the show and sacrifice her by a minion of a servant of Molech. Molech gets a new bride or whatever he uses his virgin girls for, Minnie gets cured of her cancer and starts a new life with a new identity like an Immortal in Highlander and Jack gets the bestest ratings and mostest fame in the whole wide universe for 15 minutes. Everyone wins. Except Lilly. And June. And anyone else who died.
A 'wrap-up' at the end assumes the audience is stupid. The tragic ending works because it shows the consequences of Jack's deal with the devil. The most sinister aspect of this film is the influence of secret societies. The Grove is a fictionalized version of the Bohemian Club, a real organization in California. That's who he made the deal with to save his show.
Fair point, I actually forgot about the cult element until I was editing the video and saw them again in the trailer 😂 - James
I think Jack was hypnotized the whole time and triggered to kill his guests in front of a live audience during his previous visit to the Grove. It was his wife who made the deal for Jack to commit the sacrifices for her to be healed, she was the rich & powerful super-celeb while he was a radio DJ when they met, she got him into the secret club, she's the Tom Cruise with a secret hospital room in the HQ and a personal medical staff, he was her pet, expendable. He was under hypnosis when he thought he was killing Minnie, she needed him to think it was her and he was doing the right thing out of love otherwise he never would have killed Lilly or anyone who tried to stop him. Molech (originally the god of the Canaanites in the bible) doesn't accept adult sacrifices, they have to be virgin female children and it has to be by bloodletting, not cancer, so Minnie wasn't the one who was sacrificed by Jack, it was Jack who sacrificed the 13 year old Lilly on behalf of Minnie. Abraxas isn't a god that the cult Lilly was a prisoner of, Abraxas is just a magic word of Greek origin that opens a portal for Molech to move between dimensions through. Lilly was always going to be a sacrifice to Molech.
Interesting You are the only one who considers it was the wife who did everything.
@@GokuMcDuck It's kind of obvious, she was the high ranking member of the secret society, Jack was just a radio DJ, his fame came from her. It's recruitment, like when a Scientologist marries outside their cult to make babies to add to the cult, the spouse is expandable.
She faked her death, why? To not be held accountable for what the cult brainwshed Jack to do, all the while making Jack think he's the reason for her cancer because he wanted fame, they never intervened so her cancer wasn't a result of his deals, he was faked out, that's why his rating never beat Carson.
It all comes down to Molech, the god/demon was a very real deity and did accept human sacrifices in exchange for fame and fortune, but he only accepted children, virgin females specifically and they had to die by spilling their blood. Jacks's wife was never part of any sacrifice, Lilly was the target the entire time, Jack was just a tool to spill her blood and he had to manipulated by his wife and cult to think he was doing it for himself.
The first cult Lilly came from was part of the same cult. Abraxas is just the magic word to summon Molech. The cult probably had an affiliate group try to heal Minnie that time when she was first diagnosed but were interrupted, so they had to use Jack to get to the sacrifice, that's when they faked her death.
Occam's Razor would refute all of this.
We saw the footage of what happened. The demon took over the television station. The demon tricked the host into killing everyone on the show. "Abracadabra.". The only reason the demon lost is because the ghost of the host's wife tricked him into killing Lilly which was the vessel for the demon. It was the love he shared with his wife that saved his life. The only way to defeat evil is with love. According to all Christian and Jewish dogma God is pure love. Evil cannot overpower love. And since god is love it's the only thing we have that can stop evil. You're welcome.
I didn't love this film, but it's great that there is so much interesting horror being made at the moment.
It beats another comic book movie.
That sounds really good, you're both getting very good at this, and no arguments this week, lol!
Thankfully Peter managed to remain calm this time 😂
@@OneGoodScareShow Going by the killer comic show tonight he now has his air to keep him calm!!😀
I don't think it was made to look "entirely" like he did it at the end, as the skeptic's body was still totally charred and messed up, and his co-host's head was backwards and was through the glass table
The Grove they refer to in the movie is Bohemia Grove, where the "elite" perform strange rituals before a giant owl statue that represents Moloch, the demon of child sacrifice.Even the most sceptical people often have to admit there's something shady going on there.
You learn something new everyday 😂 - James
You’re absolutely correct. This stuff really happens all the time. They hide it in plain sight by showing it in films and other media. It causes the human mind to deflect from it being truth and instead it’s viewed as fiction.
shoutout to Alex Jones
Yeah the scene where the cult light themselves on fire is an actual event that happened called The Waco Siege look into it. That whole scene happened in real life in a different setting
Australia is killing it at the moment with horror movies.
I went to see this because of all the reviews about how scary it was. This movie made me laugh the entire time until the last 5 minutes that just made everything confusing.
Yeah I wouldn't say it's scary, more interesting. I think it's the type of horror film that people that hate jumpscares will like - James
The ending doesn't make much sense. I think that's deliberate to some extent but it's also an anti climax from the build up.
And yeah it's not scary. Some weird bits like the girl in particular.
I enjoyed the visuals but found it very confusing after the first half
You would sound like a complete insane person laughing outloud/ chuckling in a theater during this movie
Happenin' lads. Jonny here. You've popped up in my suggested (because we review similar things I'm assuming). Great wee back and forth. I'll check out more of your stuff over the weekend (sub'd in the meantime 🖐️).
Hey Jonny, thanks for giving us a look, we really appreciate it. Just checked out some of your stuff, awesome work! - James
Agreed. Would have preferred to skip the glowing head killing everyone at the end. Would have preferred to have it a bit more grounded but still disturbing. A bit of ambiguity with the physics would have worked better.
Overall I liked it though.
Grounded is definitely the way to go. Doesn't ruin the movie for me but it's definitely the weakest element of the film - James
I saw it last night. It’s a really fun movie, watch it in a theater with an audience.
I'd actually love to watch it on an old CRT TV 😂
The demon definitely unalived everyone else. The guy was still burned and the other guy head was still turned. Also, why would the guy take his check out of and start to praise the demon if it was just a guy starting to murder people???? He would just run away.
Am i missing something about this film because i thought it was boring and nothing happened until the last ten minutes and that wasnt all that good
This hit all the right marks. Bohemian Grove. Anton LeVey. James Randi. Sybil. And the possessed girl reminded me of Jessica Lynch (Gulf War).
The timing of the show seemed to be key, and I like to think the demon accommodated his wife’s angry presence, seeing the way the main character sacrificed her for fame.
I saw the end sequence as the demon taking him to his own hell, toying with him, and making him kill the girl.
The very thing that gave him the no1 slot took it away immediately. The demon is known as a showman and it was an impressive performance 😂
I agree with the glowing splitting head scene not being needed, i'd have loved more of the girl hitting them with personal verbal attacks with her demonic voice. Because the demon knows their secrets. I really did like this movie!
The split head was like cracking the egg and the demon being born.
Agreed. Was a bit too much. Either way, good movie though.
Cant wait till this streams! Looks like a real gem!
You'll love it I'm sure!
It was a big boring nothing burger IMO.
@@frankthecat1660 cool
It is stop watching , get to enjoy it without much expectation
@@frankthecat1660cause your boring , same reason I’m sure music is typically mid for you
The one thing that took it down a notch was taking it out of the documentary style for that 3 minutes or whatever and seeing things from his point of view. Totally took me out of the movie. That choice is completely head-scratching to me. But yes, it was totally inspired by Ghostwatch. Not a bad thing.
100% agree!
Watched this last night and it was a decent film. The thing with the film is that the tv host is a member of bohemian grove and he sacrificed his wife for fame there. The demon in the girl says hello to him and that he knows him from the place with the tall trees. That’s bohemian grove. He made a deal there with the demon. That stuff happens in real life, especially at the grove but they don’t want you to know about that. They use movies to deflect from truth. Anyway, this movie was alright. I’d watch it again.
That was the amazing Randy and URI Geller
Had never heard of The Amazing Randy. Was just reading about him, looks like they based that element of the story on a real episode of Johnny Carson where he exposed a televangelist named Peter Popoff. You learn something new every day 😂 - James
@@OneGoodScareShow yeah, Randy was generally right but was a jerk just like the dude in the movie
I had assumed the demon learned how to hypnotize (which would explain the extreme intrest from her) from the previous demonstration, and the flashbacks were implanted by the demon that we shared with the main character until he stabs the girl believing it to be his wife. Just what i assumed on first watch.
That's actually a great theory! Never thought of that but absolutely makes sense.
That’s an interesting theory. Although I would’ve preferred that they explain earlier in the movie that he sold his soul for ratings and that’s why his wife got cancer and the events that unfurl during the taping are the inevitable price to be paid for messing with dark forces. Then they end the movie on the static with the face in it followed by the technical difficulties card. But all in all I really liked it. The pacing was incredibly good right up until the coda.
@@RobertDouglasLW I think the creators preferred to keep it a little more open ended. I kind of like that there's a whole story that's left for the audience to piece together from what we've been given from the broadcast
@@RobertDouglasLWyou sound dull as possible saying you’d want that explained from the start that’s dumb
movie is actually good and somewhat convinsible
Wrap ups are for those on the slow eaters’ table. Sell your soul to the Devil and guess what, the Devil wins all
Rosemary's Baby meets Network is the absolute worst and inaccurate review grab
Yeah I thought that was a weird one 😂 - James
It is good but the ending is pretty lame. The film up to then is clearly building up to something gory, which it delivers, but it just feels formulaic or clichéd.
8/10 for the first 75 minutes then 2/10 for the ending. 6/10 overall.
I think the idea of the ending is great but the execution of it is a bit of a miss. Would've much preferred it to stay within the documentary format - James
Thinking it was a nutcase after seeing the film is nuts as a take in itself. Who stands 2 feet away to be killed while the person next to you is being choked with a necklace, while the other person is being burned alive by the same person whom they didn’t like, their ward is being stabbed… Nobody. It wasn’t a butter. The over obstinance of the review to what what unfolded in the movie is truly odd. It was a demon, not a psycho who done it. The end.
I think you misunderstood what we were saying mate. We weren't suggesting that he went nuts and murdered everybody and there was never any demon. The final shot with him surrounded by everybody dead suggests (to me at least) that the demon is framing him for the murders. Either by taking possession of him killing them or manipulating the footage. From the audience perspective, it looks like he went crazy and killed them. Otherwise what everybody saw was a demon going on a rampage and him heroically killing it. - James
@@OneGoodScareShow ahh ok. My mistake then since that’s what you meant. Interesting take. Thanks for clearing that up!
Glad I'm not the only one to notice the Ghostwatch thing, I wonder if the filmmakers were aware of it?
I enjoyed the splitting head transformation it was unique and different. But as you mentioned it would have looked horrific and cool to have her arms grow long as the lighting zaps from her body. And she kept that same demonic facial expression with her eyes rolled back like Reagon in The Exorcist. Now that would have been haunting but overall i enjoyed the splitting head transformation it’s something you haven’t seen before.
Christou's eyes rolled back, did you catch that?
I saw on shudder it was good ....not great.
Found footage purists take me TF out of these comments. Bye.

Horrible movie
I respectfully disagree good sir! - James
@@OneGoodScareShow I was very excited about this movie when I saw the preview. Started off great with slow build-up of what's to come. But the ending happened way too fast and all the electricity CGI (or whatever you want to call it) was cheesy
Was fascinating, I loved the artistic horror styling they went with, reminded me of something out of the movie VHS, mixed with maybe black mirror vibes??
I genuinely tho, had no clue of the point of this movie until the very end. Wasn't sure i was gonna love it or not, until the end
