To be fair I have seen Patrick Frostmourne (esp Asmon's reactions on the complete series) so many times that when the original cinematic begun, as soon as the cliff scene showed up I was like "where's the burger joint oO" :D
As a WCIII fan that came into playing WoW as it was born, TBC and WotLK were story caps. I think the hype behind TBC and WotLK are based enormously on this. And I agree. Story is king.
As a child when i was on vacation and i had no internet i watched every day the cinematics on the log in screen and counted the days before i could get back online.
As a Warcraft lore knower/reader, having to defeat imprisoned Magtheridon -> Lady Vashj and her army in their underwater layer -> Kael'thas and his army in their nether floating castle -> relive RoC last mission in 3rd person (Battle for mount hyjal) -> Siege Illidan with Akama and the broken on top of Magtheridon's black temple -> Prevent Kiljaiden from coming through the same type of portal that sundered Azshara and created the Maelstrom... TBC #1
Oh, my first first. =) And yes, they were both amazing, specially as a Warcraft 3 player. The only one that comes close is probably Warlords of Draenor, which is also a massive nostalgia wink to Reign of Chaos.
I see your WoD nostalgia but due to ...reasons.... (*cough*DaddyIllidan*cough*) I am kinda impartial towards Legion - basically the ingame cinematics more than the opening.
When TBC launched, there was a male blood elf running around the starting zone /yelling FABIO!! He was there for HOURS WotLK was insanely exciting as a WC3 player. It's still largely the most played private server expansion and has been since release
Grubby, they are not the expansion trailers per se but check out the Warbringers short stories connected to Battle for Azeroth. The Azshara one is stunningly good. Looove the art direction and style.
TBC trailer release was amazing. AND we got flying... still remember seeing the first flying mounts overhead. Was just incredible. New land. Everyone went to quest for the portal. So good. Then it opened into the massive open area. Gah. Childhood.
Such an amazing nerd smile. It makes me miss standing in a queue at midnight outside the gaming store waiting for release, with everyone else who had called in sick next day.
By the time the cinematic was released, they had already announced Blood Elves & Draenei as playable races. They waited a while to announce Draenei… for April Fools that year they announced the new Alliance race would be Wisps. Their racial was Self-Destruct and there was a death screenshot with “reroll character” replacing “release spirit”
Those trailer were very exciting. Both Illidan and the Lich King were the characters from W3 games we all new, and the expansions felt like continuation of the story after the Frozen Throne.
I mained a human mage in vanilla (and beta). The moment I saw the draenei for the first time, I knew I would switch - and never looked back, until I quit in Cataclysm. You choosing to play WoW actually made me log into the game for the first time in all these years and 😅once again, I find myself enjoying my good old space goat :)
What bothers me, is that how fucking GOOD it still looks EVEN now. Excuse me? It's been over 10 years. Shouldn't we get better not worse? The effects, the music, the timing. Blizzard were on top of their game with cinematics.
Maybe it's my bias in understanding everything that went on, but I think the WotLK trailer is probably the best video game cinematic trailer of all time.
Imagine my excitement when I heard an expansion to my favorite game, WC3, had released. Imagine that same excitement, when, as a child, I went with my mom to the game store to buy WC3: TBC, only to find out it was for WORLD of Warcraft. Reading comprehension wasn’t a strong point for me, back in the day.
The broken ones that you find in wc3 are the unfortunate draenei that didnt get to ride the luxury ship Exodar to flee Outland and then crash land on Azeroth
Now you can naturally progress into the Burnig Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King expansions and decide which version is the best. Personally I prefer WOTLK and since Blizz won't support those servers, you have to play (for free) on a private server.
Grubby would you consider talking about Stop Killing Games? It's a movement trying to curb the practice of games relying on a central server which disallow people from playing them once support runs out. They're trying to get signatures for a EU petition at the moment which would bring the matter to EU court to be considered.
so the years of every expansion are: original wow 2004 TBC 2007 WOTLK 2008 Cataclysm 2010 Mists of Pandaria 2012 Warlords of draenor 2014 Legion 2016 Battle for Azeroth 2018 Shadowlands 2020 Dragonflight 2022 War within 2024
vanilla, tbc and wotlk have the nostalgia factor and are the final chapters of the "arthas storyline", but I still think that even WoD expansion was hot garbage the cinematic on the other hand is S tier. Legion cinematic is a close second too.
Draenei were weak? bro have you read "Rise of the horde"? without the fel magic, the blood of the pit lord and the ogres, the Orcs would have never defeated the Draenei. I loved them so much in those books
I always felt like Tbc is one of weaker ones as its more like "feature showcase" mixed with very little story, Illidan had huge potential for very badass story focused cinematic. Wotlk one is pure cinema tho, one of the best. Also while Cata one is too up high there, if you can, i recommend you Wod one, it have that old school warcraft vibe mixed with wow storytelling (btw, as you are w3 veteran, i bet you would recognize references to w3 heritage in it :D), sitting at top with wotlk one. Also you are right with wotlk being one of the most beloved for many. Tbc is fan favourite too, but wotlk was more polished and i think it spoke to much bigger audience... but, many tbc purists dont like it as much as it introduces some "quality of life" improvements that they consider as start of making game too easy (while i personally like them, i have to agree with it, wotlk started to be much less grindy and "hard" game as vanilla or even tbc, and end content started to be more important than road there).
TBC video is good, but more of a game showing you things, wrath video is like a short story it's incredible, probably my favorite of all game cinematics or cutscenes
Captain Grim Machinima vides would be nice to watch. But I don't know if you would want to see those. You can watch his machinima videos about Wow classic stuff. 🙂
I just don't understand how he could spend so much time on WC3 and be so clueless about all of this. I mean I've played WC3 when I was young and the next logical thing to do was playing WoW, I can understand that he didn't move into WoW as it was such a different game but then not getting interested at all to the point to not even know about expansions or cinematics of them is almost wild to me
He's talking about the Game of Thrones tv series, the episode he's referring to came out in late 2017. If you've never watched it that's perfectly reasonable and a good choice on your part, it's well into the bad series at the end which are beyond the released books of Song of Ice and Fire. :) (And when I watched the TV series literally the first thing I thought seeing that scene was: Someone saw the WotLK trailer. Honestly when it comes to things like that I'm more of the "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" school of thought.)
even tho ppl have issues with the other expansions watching those trailers and EVEN the important patch trailers for the raids is something you should go through. Cata has imo the best cinematic and shadowlands one of the worst WoW expansions that cinematic is stunning.
I always liked TBC cinematic the most because it showed both players and story characters after that it was pretty much only story characters going forward, with the exception of MoP (we don't talk about Disneyflight)
bro's discovering 2007
fr lol
Ancient astronaut theorists say yes
Wasn't it 2006 for tBC and 2008 for WotLK actually?
and im here for it
I'm sure he's seen them before, he was lip syncing along for both trailers, but he said he watched them now (again) after playing classic.
Grubby wouldn't recognise the Priest's Resurrection spell in WoW because he's only played Hard-core, lol.
LOOOOOL
"Patrick that's the Ashbringer - Director's cut" and "Patrick that's Frostmourne - Director's cut" next:?
YESPLEASE
MUST
you forgot Patrick The Pure - The Sacrifice - Director's cut
To be fair I have seen Patrick Frostmourne (esp Asmon's reactions on the complete series) so many times that when the original cinematic begun, as soon as the cliff scene showed up I was like "where's the burger joint oO" :D
As a WCIII fan that came into playing WoW as it was born, TBC and WotLK were story caps.
I think the hype behind TBC and WotLK are based enormously on this. And I agree.
Story is king.
exactly, was the same for me and still is
wotlk definitely was the end of the wc3 chapter of wow
That scene of the warlock annihilating the murlocs so nonchalantly is why i still main warlock today 😅😅
As a child when i was on vacation and i had no internet i watched every day the cinematics on the log in screen and counted the days before i could get back online.
"You are not Pre-Paid !!" - Blizzard Entertainment 2024
LMAO
I pre-ordered vanilla, TBC, and WOTLK back in the day, that ain’t even remotely modern lmao
My favorite version of WoW is TBC, but the favorite intro cinematic is without a doubt Wrath. It's just so incredibly good.
100%
Funny part is that Wrath cinematic is made like in 2007 or so and it just looks so damn good. Just by comparing to other stuff made in same years.
TBC sucks so bad
As a Warcraft lore knower/reader, having to defeat imprisoned Magtheridon -> Lady Vashj and her army in their underwater layer -> Kael'thas and his army in their nether floating castle -> relive RoC last mission in 3rd person (Battle for mount hyjal) -> Siege Illidan with Akama and the broken on top of Magtheridon's black temple -> Prevent Kiljaiden from coming through the same type of portal that sundered Azshara and created the Maelstrom... TBC #1
Grubby should see the Wrathgate cinematic.
That shit in 2007 was absolute gas 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The canon event of reinstalling the game with all 10 disks and rewatching the trailers
Oh, my first first. =)
And yes, they were both amazing, specially as a Warcraft 3 player. The only one that comes close is probably Warlords of Draenor, which is also a massive nostalgia wink to Reign of Chaos.
I see your WoD nostalgia but due to ...reasons.... (*cough*DaddyIllidan*cough*) I am kinda impartial towards Legion - basically the ingame cinematics more than the opening.
wrath is the best, the intro with sindragosa being ressed is insane. :D
It was an amazing time. I went to Best Buy for tbc at launch with my mom and brother who both played with me. I’ll never forget it
When TBC launched, there was a male blood elf running around the starting zone /yelling FABIO!! He was there for HOURS
WotLK was insanely exciting as a WC3 player. It's still largely the most played private server expansion and has been since release
Illidan : ‘’You are not prepared!’’
Me: ´´He said the thing, he said the thing!’´
Can’t wait for him to watch the later cinematics, wod/mop ones have such a special place in my heart
Gah. Childhood.
The pitlord was still alive in Burning Crusade, kept alive so Illidan could maintain a supply of fel orcs.
Such an amazing nerd smile. It makes me miss standing in a queue at midnight outside the gaming store waiting for release, with everyone else who had called in sick next day.
Wrath cinematic is the best game cinematic ever made. These visuals, lore, music, voice acting, cinematography together are unbeatable!
The wotlk cinematic was soo way ahead of it's time, the cinematography between TBC and WOTLK is insane. Would also react to the Wrathgate btw :)
TBC trailer was honestly pretty shit. D2/LoD trailers and cinematics were leaps and bounds better, and those were many many years prior to TBC.
my favourite still is mop .. :D
so mystical
By the time the cinematic was released, they had already announced Blood Elves & Draenei as playable races.
They waited a while to announce Draenei… for April Fools that year they announced the new Alliance race would be Wisps. Their racial was Self-Destruct and there was a death screenshot with “reroll character” replacing “release spirit”
wotlk trailer will never be topped by anything, its perfect
i love the paradox it creates between what actually happened and his fathers words
*They were their audience! Which made the whole diff^^
Every single time I hear the music for Arthas and speech I tear up lol. It will always happen
Grubby should see the patch / raid trailers as well at some point!
God that Wrath cinematic is so good.
Those trailer were very exciting. Both Illidan and the Lich King were the characters from W3 games we all new, and the expansions felt like continuation of the story after the Frozen Throne.
bro looks like he drank flourided water without the water.
Dude!!!!!!! 1000%!
Back in the day seeing gathered was legendary!!!
I'm glad I dropped wow at lvl 9 in 2006. I never would have stopped. Maplestory and other bs I played however had the good grace to get old.
They still are ... remove your biase glasses and watch the cinematics.
Definetly watch the "Black tempel" raid cinematic from TBC! Its awsome
Maybe it's my bias in understanding everything that went on, but I think the WotLK trailer is probably the best video game cinematic trailer of all time.
5:49 Thank you! Been saying it for years
Imprisoned for 10.000 potatoes...
Banished from my own potatoes...
And now... you dare potato potato potato?
You are not potato...
Imagine my excitement when I heard an expansion to my favorite game, WC3, had released. Imagine that same excitement, when, as a child, I went with my mom to the game store to buy WC3: TBC, only to find out it was for WORLD of Warcraft. Reading comprehension wasn’t a strong point for me, back in the day.
wotlk trailer is the goat, I still get chills watching it now
Id also recommended some of the patch trailers, a lot of the TBC and Wrath ones are great.
Was 12 years old going my first midnight release for a video game. :)❤
The broken ones that you find in wc3 are the unfortunate draenei that didnt get to ride the luxury ship Exodar to flee Outland and then crash land on Azeroth
This guy is so genuinely likeable
It was cool back in the day, but Cataclysm intro is still my favorite.
Can't wait for TBC fresh! I missed it last time it came out.
Wotlk one still gets me like the first time.
looking forward for the WoD Opening ... its the best of all opening Cinematics
Wrath is so good, really feels like Warcraft 3-3
Im curious if Grubby knows how Blizzard continued Ilidan's story in Wow Legion
This is a fucking vibe. I’m 100% on board
burning crusade was when i rly started to play ... bloodelf paladin for life xD
Now you can naturally progress into the Burnig Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King expansions and decide which version is the best. Personally I prefer WOTLK and since Blizz won't support those servers, you have to play (for free) on a private server.
Someone has shown this man the death of the lich king?
Grubby would you consider talking about Stop Killing Games? It's a movement trying to curb the practice of games relying on a central server which disallow people from playing them once support runs out. They're trying to get signatures for a EU petition at the moment which would bring the matter to EU court to be considered.
Another cool cinematics / short films are from Overwatch.
Especially the one with Hanzo and Genji
5:51 funny how you can tell already before the scene at the end where they copy paste it
Now you need shadowlands cinematics . LK fight :)
Story is King!
"BEFORE Activision"🎉 yea it was something special
THEY WERE MAGICAL. MANY OF US STILL GET THOSE FEELINGS. BEEN PLAYING SINCE WOW STARTED. WILL YOU CONTINUE TO PLAY? TRY RETAIL?
TBC and Shadowlands trailers are the best.
Hurrcian made great trailers that look like what the game felt like, maybe check them out some time too? :)
now THIS is a youtube video
If one wants a non boring mage then play arcane mage instead of full frostspec .One can be killed and out mana with every mob but its fun
so the years of every expansion are:
original wow 2004
TBC 2007
WOTLK 2008
Cataclysm 2010
Mists of Pandaria 2012
Warlords of draenor 2014
Legion 2016
Battle for Azeroth 2018
Shadowlands 2020
Dragonflight 2022
War within 2024
Long live to the true, Lich King!!!
If you start a toon on the non HC anniversary realms they prog into TBC next year, come join us :)
vanilla, tbc and wotlk have the nostalgia factor and are the final chapters of the "arthas storyline", but I still think that even WoD expansion was hot garbage the cinematic on the other hand is S tier. Legion cinematic is a close second too.
Yes. Yes it was.
I think tbc is the better addon. Though the lich king fight (and icc raid in general) and also the cinematic of wotlk are superior
Damn Blizzard used to make crazy good cinematics
Draenei were weak? bro have you read "Rise of the horde"? without the fel magic, the blood of the pit lord and the ogres, the Orcs would have never defeated the Draenei. I loved them so much in those books

I think the WotLK trailer is the best.
Yea i would suggest playing Wotlk when the new Classic servers get to that point with new friends you made in Hcore. Wotlk is really the best.
Kataklizma je bolja.
So does wow classic not expand into burning crusade?
Wrath has the best trailer
Captain Grim Machinima vides would be nice to watch. But I don't know if you would want to see those. You can watch his machinima videos about Wow classic stuff. 🙂
I just don't understand how he could spend so much time on WC3 and be so clueless about all of this. Dropped outta college for TBC😂
Agot was first book was releaese in 1996

Anyone Else wondering why everything is exactly 10.000 years ago?
and .. why has nothing else happened the following 9,990 years? :D
Forget Arthas, Illidan did nothing wrong.
You deserve to have a full classic experience you should just move your dead char to PVE and go forward.
Whatever helps you go againe
Grubby, you need to watch with us all of them, Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria, all, and the cinematics made by Hurricane
I always liked TBC cinematic the most because it showed both players and story characters
after that it was pretty much only story characters going forward, with the exception of MoP (we don't talk about Disneyflight)
wotlk was the last time retail was good. really jumped the shark after that
TBC is in the wow classic you're playing on. WotLK will be based on the audience and will probably end there. Because nobody wanted Cataclysm 😂
my son!
Vanilla and TBC are the best era of WoW, Wotlk comes second but all the downfall started in Wotlk.
WotLK was the best xpac until Legion came along
The Draenei retcon sucked but otherwise this era was awesome
Blizzard was still good :(
tbc clears wotlk impo
What's the reason he ignored the game until now?
Wrath of the LK is my least favorite expansion of all the "classic" expansions, but it definitely has my favorite opening cinematic!
