I used to fall asleep with this show playing on my small, cable bedroom tv late at night during my early highschool days. Les' narrating, the nature sounds, the background music, so calming late at night in a dark room with just the flickering light of the tv
Same! I had one of the old classic iPods that I had Mythbusters and Survivorman on and I'd just alternate between the two. I've still got a couple little phrases that I took from there.
until the commercials came on at twice the volume lol
Hilariously relatable! Love this show but I guess we can all agree on that.
man discovery channel was so ridiculously stacked with good shows back then, crazy to think of just how good they used to be now@@DecayingReverie
yes! its such a cozy show. even if les is usually .. LESS than cozy on the show! lmao
Damn the censored foot on your lap made me do a double take. For a second I thought you were really excited about this episode.
I hope Les gets 200k more subs so we get a new episode of Survivorman
I just never tire of Survivorman,
directors commentary or anything else Les Stroud
Les I just wanted to say thanks again for the awesome presentation in Calgary last weekend and thanks for taking the time to shake my hand and allowing me to meet a man that I’ve looked up to for so long, you are a very down to earth and amazing individual. Keep up the good fight as well as these awesome directors commentaries.
Go Canada
☝🏻💪🏻
One of the things that I have always admired about Les Stroud has been the candid way he shows his methods, and his failures. He's always been the real deal and set the standard for all of the others in the survival genre.
Two commentaries in two weeks?! Thanks Les! Appreciate the work put into these and I love hearing the stories!
I don’t know if you’ll see this les but I just wanted to say that you changed my life. Watching you go from survivorman to the wandering shaman did something to me. You truly are the wandering shaman! Your like a super hero! A real life adventure saga come to life. I don’t think there’s ever been another human to be a Zulu warrior, an Incan warrior, blessed by tribal leaders from all over the world etc. Your titles must be many! Thank you so much for all your teachings….it’s nice to have masters as teachers (even tho we many never meet, I thank you for being a part of my reality and for everything you do)
Got to love the pixellation in Current Day Les around 24 minutes in. Stuff made lewd by cencorship :D
I think a charity auction is a great idea. The many fans out there would love a Les Stroud survival pack. With such a wide group of dedicated fans, somebody would love to own a piece from one of your journeys.
There is nothing more authentic than Les and his gear.
* I love Les Stroud, but why hasn't he been offered the Order of Canada. He deserves our accolades and honour. I can't think of a more authentic, humble, famous person. Nor a better representative of our great, yet humble country of Canada.
I would love to see a Survivor Man and Steve Wallis colab! Thats where the bag could get auctioned off for charity or something!
Steve needs something to brighten his life. That guy has had a painful couple years.
Always like to see the happy faces when Les finds things like those mangos, pure joy.
Man, I think of the mental toughness this took and remember why you are the GOAT. No one has ever been able to replicate, although many have tried. Your real fans know, and so does everyone else who has ever even camped.
@@just_another_WFRyou're conveniently ignoring the fact that Les has taught millions of us important survival skills through his show.
@@just_another_WFRBro he made these shows to get people interested in survival and learn a thing or two. His show would have never taken off or gotten the green light from discovery channel if it was dry, boring, only 100% informational viewing. It has to be filmed well, edited well, scored well, narrated well, and has to have the element of learning survival skills and life skills into order to captivate the audience. Let's see you do that.
@@wat5713Nahhh he's right. Les is a good survivalist and show maker but if you want to LEARN survival, I'd argue you can actually learn more from Bear Grylls considering that he does way more stuff to teach people while Les is doing more of a documentary style with SOME survival tips and tricks. Hell you can learn more from Dual Survival also. Man vs Wild and Dual Survival aren't "real survival" like what Les does, but they offer more in terms of teaching people survival skills. Sometimes (like the Kalahari jungle episode) Les just waits for 5 days for his crew to pick him up while he does bare minimum to "survive". His director's commentary is really good though
@just_another_WFRNot quite copypasta quality shitposting. Try a little harder.
We see you Luke... blurring out his foot lol
Block out the haters Les. Your real fans know what is up. You’re amazing dude
This is my feel good show. When I’m down or not having a good day I watch Les and it makes my day Alittle bit better. Thank you Les
Loved this series back in the day. Most of survival looks crappy to deal with but I think the one thing that would actually break me would be all the insects. They would drive me insane.
love the shoutout to outdoor boys. It was a pleasant homage to another channel I watch often.
I've recommended your videos to SO many people in my ventures of learning and exploring bushcraft survival, you continue to be the humble and intelligent person I happily share the knowledge of to anyone I can. Please continue to do the awesome work that you do, good sir.
Les. Your shelters dont suck, theyre functional at least. That in itself means they dont suck. Much to be said of the energy spent or situational limitations like you were on about. HUGE FAN, CHEERS.
Me and my dad used to watch your show all the time.
Yours was definitely the best survival show on TV.
It's awesome that you're putting all the episodes on UA-cam. Very cool of you!
About to have a smoke sesh while watching
Just hit the puffco too😂
Sweet! I'm joining the party.
Me too, friend, Stay Safe.
Only way to survive
You and me both bro
I appreciate that the Hennesy Hammock has useful survival information printed on the fabric!
3:52 As someone from Grenada I know exactly where this is lol. That particular tree with the roots high above the ground is unmistakable. Even have pics of it. This particular area is enroute to a really nice hidden gem of a waterfall. The rocks are orange due to the sulfur in the soil. Not sure when this originally aired about the trail was not well known apart by farmers until about 6 years about.
It’s unfortunate that there are so many couch critics. Especially those that attack UA-camrs. One channel I watch actually invited a couch critic with them to one of the locations they’ll be working at. The critic declined.
❤were the ones that have watched you for so long ( probably longer than this kid has been alive) and so many lives you’ve saved over those years and continue to do so.
I know, easier said than done, but just focus on your fans here. We know you’re the real deal.
❤from California
As a fellow Ontarian, I do not know how you don’t have Lyme disease yet.
PS had the pleasure of meeting you once in Toronto at the outdoors show. You signed a harmonica for me, which I still have on display today!
You’re as kind in person as you seem in your show.
All the best to you, good to see you still doing your thing.
Tim
I’m sure most of you are exactly like me and have watched these episodes time and time again. It’s almost like seeing it for the first time when he does the commentary
This survival truly felt like paradise
Love the commentaries. Don't waste your breath on trolls.
Les your music isn't something I'd usually listen to but damn it if I wont support Les Stroud. The man gives so much
It was definitely a surprise when I looked up to what appeared to be you rubbing something blurred in your lap around the 24 minute mark! Ahahaha Love the commentaries.
Lol I thought the same thing
Those hammocks are actually very very good. I have one and I love it.
The amount of energy you have to use just to film it yourself is insane, let alone building a shelter alone with no energy.
I live in the southern Louisiana swamps, has some hardships that are similar to the jungle
Same for us up here
This is perfect timing I was just gonna watch a directors commentary lol
I hate YT algorithm, Cause by watching this awesome lad, I got recommendations of fake "survival" YT channels. P.S Love u Les keep the actual survival and hope that nobody here get in those places
Thank you Les Stroud for doing these commentaries. I love the show and your honesty about your experiences
It is truly such a gift that you have put these up for free on UA-cam. It really helped keep me sane during lockdown. Cheers Les!
Hey Les When you first start camping as a Kid in Canada . You are shared with things to be wary of . These lessons were passed down from generations of elders . If First Nations . There are Many . If from the Settlers . Many . But Different . Still . They are worth taking heed .
I've seen a lot of people offer sponsored content, I love when you explain the quality of these Director Commentary UA-cam videos are of professional quality that you easily could've syndicated through the Discovery channel...
And when you explain how much you respect your exceptional editor who's getting a cut for his work... So that when you politely air a few commercials during an hour and twenty minute film like this...
And... well, other UA-camrs that are as heartfelt honest as you will explain the money's too good to turn down, so they ask their viewers to tolerate them sponsoring products because it keeps their lights on.
You explain so many situations where you made shrewd decisions based 100% on your moral's... how the b-side TV film industry was in shock that you weren't avarice centric...
Like you learned early on they were expecting they could control you and make you compromise your values... But you're like I"m not a film student doing what you expect...
Your Wild Harvest ad, or your branded merch commercials... you gotta understand it's only annoying you don't mix it up when playing the same rerun, but it's so refreshing you're not sponsoring products from companies you don't believe in just because they paid you more...
And you advocate other people's products when it's obvious you're not being paid to do so... LoL you're such an anomoly.
Have you thought about leaning into that... if you made an hour long video, just out of love of other supply companies product's and people?
I can't name other famous people encouraging you to get families off the grid for 10 fricking minutes to experience nature... My family was huge into Scouting, hiking, sailing, exploring, and whatnot... and when I taught it in school I was shocked to learn many of my fifth grade students had never gone fishing, or they were homesick because they literally never had spent a night outside of their bed at home before they came to our camp with their gradeschool class.
I just thought you're so uniquely inscrutable about Environmental Education, and their academic field is going to be on life support in a century... maybe when you endorse products it could also be to encourage people to love and experience nature (making more people more likely to want to preserve it.)
I love that you are doing these commentary videos. I remember watching the show when I was a kid. Loved it, still love it. You've always been real.
loved watching these as a kid an now I get to see the directors commentary as an adult. I feel like I've grown up with Les Stroud.
Haters gonna hate les, we all know you're the real deal. Awesome content as usual man
Lived in Grenada for two years. Some of the best in my Life. Thanks for making this 💪🏼
You building shelters were some of my favorite parts on Survivalman and i thought those shelters were top notch!
the music that comes in when you’re drinking from the waterfall and the hummingbird shows up made it such a beautiful moment. wonderful stuff man
One of my favorite episodes due to the beauty and variety of the area. Appreciate the commentary!
I can remember watching your show on tv with my dad when I was little and I loved it. Your show really showed me the danger and beauty of nature.
I've been using the lansky sharpening kit for decades. Great way to have a consistent angle.
Les I've watched you since season 1 survivor man. I love everything you do. Any chance I've ever gotten to go out to my dad's 11 wooded acres in Texas I go to just be in nature, break sticks, throw rocks.....you helped me find my happy place. Thank you
I love it there! The people are so friendly and hospitable! Big love to money caho, Munich, st. Andrews!
Les, you are such a stud! You should do one more show and take one of your fans (ME) as a guest and let’s go survive together! The finale!
We needed more Les playing the harmonica for sure!
My favorite part of these videos are the clapbacks against negative commentators :D
For a lot of years, I have enjoyed the Survivorman films and your book SURVIVE! has it's place in my survival book reference library.
thank you so much for thesed directors commentaries. love hearing all the behind the scenes stuff!
did not expect to see the worlds number one hanzo commenting on a commentary about a survivor man episode filmed in my country haha
@mojoooooo just watch out I will be the world's first IRL streaming deep finnish wilderness streamer in the future. Just gotta wait for the satellite internet to get more mobile
im in alaska and i went on a moose hunt 30 miles deep into wilderness on atvs and what i found out is rain gear works until it doesnt it keeps the rain out for awhile and then you start sweating so if anyone is ever that deep in the woods you should set up a tarp instead of relying on rain gear
Yes ticks: their creepy, determined crawl is unmistakable!
Thank you Les for your dedication to keeping us safe if and when we find ourselves lost. P.S.Your music is well written..
Love your shows, I found out by accident that taking decongestants stops black flies and mosquitoes from biting, land yes but bite no. Since they eat me alive, I was saved. Just FYI.. love your stuff, keep up the great work.
Love the sharpening segment.
The fact that you did everything from scratch and as far as we know didn't cheat. You did awesome at building shelters. Survive man Survive....
I would love to hear more about what you think about the Alone series, I think you would beat the pants off of anyone out there. The ratings for the show would skyrocket for sure lol
Les, give us a short with your top 5 favorite knots! You've shown us a few in The Rockies episode and such, but it'd be great to see a close up lesson.
I didn't know we used to be an oak forest. Good luck finding an oak on the island anywhere now lol
Les, from all the suvivormen thst i follow u are the best..one on u tv shiw show u in baja california y u show how to convert salty water to ..drinkable giod water....love you show every.week in tv i miss you...very much!!!
Much love from Maine USA
Wut town! I'm grum!
I used to watch this show so much as a kid most episodes i know so well I just listen to these commentaries at work. Makes a good day!
We need a cross over ep with outdoor boys
Thats an interesting perspective to take, whoever says this isn't real, as a carpenter i can tell you that bamboo has been there a long while, you can tell from the sagging where water would collect on the uneven parts of the wood and the obvious rot that wouldnt be apparent in a new building in a tropical environment
Im sorry but experience tells a lot and clearly youre lacking
I don't think people who glorify staged survival are aware SurvivorMan is the closest thing to a real survival experience, I mean if I watch someone unpacking their shelter making kits, cooking tools, sleeping bag, eat their ready meals after being cooked on a fancy pre built stove, I've practically learned nothing. Les filmed his shows to teach, not impress and boy did he leave an unforgettable legacy.
is it bad i find it hilarious les keeps bringing up this random dude
ooooh Survivorman auction? yes, yes, YES! Early bid of $500 for your harmonica spear tip!
Les, don't give that troll the acknowledgement of responding to their nonsense, they don't deserve it. If they had any talent or skills of their own they wouldn't be obsessively trying to tear you down to make themselves feel better.
The Smith sharpening kits are also really good. I can't sharpen anything freehand to save my life, but I can get a beat up old hunting knife sharp enough to shave with using a Smith sharpening set.
Watching from day one! Survivorman has been such an incredible journey, and this director's commentary adds a whole new depth to the Grenada Jungle episode. Love getting these insights from Les Stroud himself!
Hey Les! 🌿 As a longtime fan of Survivorman, I just wanted to say thank you for the incredible adventures you’ve shared with us. Your show has fueled my love for the outdoors, and I’ve tried my hand at various survival techniques (with mixed results!). I’m here in Ohio, yearning for a chance to escape and maybe even join you on a camping trip someday. And your music-always a soothing companion during my own outdoor explorations. Keep inspiring us! 🙌🏼🎶
Respect from Serbia🙂👍
Always so happy to see new commentary
Les is goated
Please do the Papua New Guinea. I can't wait for it it is one of my S/O and my favorite episode.
The guy you talking about the rapping saran wrap around the tree wasn’t that it was bubble wrap and that was camping with Steve and crazy neighbor and they weren’t surviving they were camping that’s what they do. Pretty cool guys good show. But can’t wait for the next one. Fan episode. Really tell us what you think when he tries and starts that fire. Thanks Les.
There is another guy who did saran wrap called quiet nerd he might have been talking about him
Quiet Nerd did Saran Wrap, bubble wrap, and a few other odd builds. His weren't for "survival" though, but just experiments.
I love the work and always have. I would pay money to hang out with Les for a weekend in his neck of the woods. I don"t do survival or camping but I will never not enjoy the learning experiences given here. Thank you for everything you have done over the years Les! You are amazing!
Also, I have watch for a long time and I respect your work on so many levels, From your concerns for the indigenous people.
Hey Man . Back I 1968 or 69 . My Friend's and I decide to explore a Cliff Side in White Rock B.C. Hillside posed for collapse . We were between 5 and 9 yrs old . We found the cavitation that was happening . Tried to tell them . Tried to show them . Many Repairs there since .
25:57 what's crazy is that the Earth used to look just like this almost everywhere when the dinosaurs roamed.
I can’t think of a better way to end a weekend! Thank you Survivorman!
When you hit 1 million, it would be awesome to see you do an all new episode somewhere totally different and unique. Like a ghost town. Would also be badass if you did it somewhere with Internet coverage and you could Livestream the first few hours or something.
Love It!
I just wanted to say you have always been a role model for me, very down to earth and level headed much love my friend keep doing what you do 💚
That Chef's Knife collection is gorgeous!
Best content on UA-cam.
Like it!
Love it!
The guy on UA-cam you were talking about at the beginning sounds like The Wooded Beardsman! Great guy! Great content! Fellow Canadian
That wrap shelter sure smells like camping with Steve, haha
Much love Les!
less! Been a beeg fan ever since I saw your episodes on discovery.
Love seeing you on my you tube 😊
Thanks Les!
Thanks Les! Looking forward to the next one
I've been binging these all weekend and here we are!
Glad to see this.
