"just gonna watch one more before bed"
4 episodes later we're in Papua New Guinea
I feel u😭
So true
Literally me right now
Lol man same. Here i am again, 2 a.m
the struggle is realz
Les uploads all of these episodes for us to watch for free and there are people crying in the comments about ads.. typical.
I turned adblock off just for this, I hope he makes some bucks off of this!
add blocking everything lol
Still adds up to less than a minute of watching if you skip after 5 seconds. 1 minute is better than the 20 mins of ads they showed when this was on TV.
I told Les to upload these, it was my idea
Frank Grimes I find that a little suspect because i also told Mr. stroud to upload these. 🤔
To be the first white man allowed to participate in their ceremony is epic beyond words. History, legend, legacy.
Genuinely, they all seem very welcoming and friendly to such a stranger!!! Which is definitely not the picture you get here in the west of such native people often.
On behalf of my fellow Papua New Guineans🇵🇬
I would like to thank you for traveling all this way to one of the many remote places in my country. PNG is home to many different species of plants and animals. Survival in our rainforests is not for the faint hearted. And I'm proud to see that you've done this without any proper equipment/gear and that you're ok. Thank you for sharing your experience with PNG to the world 😇🇵🇬❤️
Your home is a beautiful place, may it always remain so.
how is the conservation efforts going in regards to tree kangaroos as well as the plethora of bird species that are enedangered. its an amazing country but always warring with itself and th3e rainforewsts are being slowly degraded
Local 1: What's that white guy doing in your uncle Josef's back yard?
Local2: He's high on betelnut playing a harmonica
Nice

12:05 How is Les Stroud eating a cooked banana right now and he's like "not gonna say its good but it'll do" when 40 minutes ago I watched this mans eat a witchetty grub like "😩😩 the flavor is immaculately peanutty, its delicious 😫😫 "
L. B there’s a difference between the bananas you know and jungle bananas
L. B he was also hungrier when he ate the grub
Our algorithms match, that was the last episode I saw, too!
@@ydderynnad that was also the previous episode in the series.

I miss this show. It was the best survival show period.
"All I have left, is a butane lighter. Wish me luck."
what a legend, i can't believe he found a way to make fire from a lighter!
Hard core man, sick for two days and you still carry all the camera gear and survive all while taking malaria pills . You are the original, no one will ever top you my friend you are a legend!

No one can top Les Stroud. The man is a living legend. A teacher, a diplomat to indigenous tribes, and an all around admirable human being. Well done Les, and thank you immensely for humbly sharing your work for us here on UA-cam.
@@johnmichaelgeorge6284 yet you go and read everyone's comments to talk trash. What an amazing minister you are. I'd love to hear your hypocritical bullshit messages
Probably the only legit survival dude there is
There’s a guy on Amazon Prime called Ed Stafford. He’s legit
Les has people he looks up to and others he respects, try looking into it perhaps?
@@airbourne1266 yeah.. i prefer Ed as more legit than Stroud.
Ray Mears.. Check him out.. 👍
@@antchung2370 Yeah. He is very skilled also. And the legendary, Tom Brown.
It's incredible that you got honored by the locals for your survival. This was an amazing episode!
one has to be a rough rowdy Canuck to survive a half o that!
I just want to acknowledge how cool it is that there are people in this world who graciously welcome Les into their village and give him a necklace of nuts! For some reason a free hand made necklace of nuts just really strikes me as the epitome of human kindness, generosity, and love.

Everybody gangsta until two Hewa stroll up with machetes.
F’n A, Cotton
Even seeing Les film that gave me the willies, that looked so intimidating.
And then they're just like, yo you wanna come to this party? Lol.
When they started walking towards him while the other is polishing his machete my heart jumped a bit and I thought to myself *yep, that's about right since this is the last episode*

You know it's insane to survive there the Les even brings food with him.
and a Lighter!

Just what I needed!
You really have to admire this guy. No pretense. No exaggeration or at least minimal exaggeration. And he does it alone with no real backup or protection.
Fuzzy wuzzies saved my great grandfather and many other australians when the japanese invaded them in WW2. Without the local papua's the allies had ZERO chance of repelling the japanese invasion of the pacific. These guys are real deal warriors and masters of their land. Ultimate respect for them.
Not only does Les have the balls to go into these remote locations and legitimately survive on his own unlike some, he got high in the process for good measure. Balls. Of. Steel.
Yes I loved his reaction so much ahahah
Reminded some of my best bad trip with my team back in college ahaha

Mr. SERIOUS: The problem with comparing normal consciousness drugs to psychedelics. It would be a whole other animal if Les took a psychedelic in the jungles of papua, it would be highly risky. Betel nut is just stimulant.

@BA 7. It is awesome of him to release these for us to watch. It just galvanizes what a great person he is.
To be fair, premium and free can't exist describing the same thing
@sdrawkcabmodnar I bet your an absolute hoot at parties
Just amazing. You showed them your courage and whilst you survived they maybe kept an eye on your location and arranged a sing sing in your honour. You earned that respect.
This was funny to me because Les was struggling and sick and trying to survive and then the 2 native men came strolling up to him like they were just going for a walk thru the neighborhood 😂
I just imagine some Hewa crew flying into my local airport and saying, "hey we want to put one of our guys on an urban street, no crew, and he has to write a song about his survival for seven days in this environment."
@Advanced Solutions Thus will begin the Hewa Lives Matter movement. A police station in Portland will be burnt down in his honour.
„Sir, this is a Wendy’s!“
Would have just as much of a tough time as Les here would, as he would be mugged and killed very quickly.
This madlad is my hero. An outdoorsman, an adventurer, a musician and an absolute beast on the harmonica.

@@Georgeous42 I play guitar...I always wanted to play that bluesy sound and wondered what harp to buy..Thank you..
He also is certain big foot is real so pick your crazy person I guess
This man is an absolute legend. He changed television forever. I cant begin to comprehend what it takes to do what Les has done in his career. He is cut out of a different cloth.
hes not wrong though.
The active ingredient of the Betel nut is arecoline, a stimulant alkaloid (among others that are present) that stimulates the release of adrenaline, thus giving the numbing and euphoric sensation, and also gives a similar effect to nicotine due to its structure, hence the buzz feeling. It's crazy to know that an estimated 10% of the world population chews these all the time. Big props to Les for trying this!
I live in Hawaiʻi, where recent migrants from Micronesia chew betel nut in almost this exact same fashion (a lot of people even grow areca palms in their yard). Out of curiousity, I tried it once in my late teens when I was still too young to buy alcohol or tobacco, and it gave me mild lightheadedness in exchange for chewing one of the most bitter substances I’ve ever tasted. That being said, I can only imagine what it would be like to chew it after multiple days on an empty stomach.
I live in Taiwan and betel nut is everywhere here. It's very similar to your first cigarette, a hot rushing feeling with a mild change in consciousness. It's also absolutely disgusting and I have no idea how anyone can get hooked on it. You see guys here cramming 5 or 6 into their mouths at traffic light stops and riding off looking like their chewing a tennis ball. Then of course there is that whole scene surrounding the girls that sell it... :-/
Honestly, that bit where the two guys approached you with machetes in hand was the scariest thing I've ever seen on survivorman. No joke. Animals don't scare me. Nature doesn't scare me. People scare me.
Then you've never been in nature other than your local walking trail.
@@saintarmstrong8790 Doesn't change the fact that humans are still the most dangerous of animal's.
Agreed! Most humans are ok but it only takes one bad one to ruin your day or your life. There are very few animals more dangerous than humans, imo, and none of those in my woods. I've more to fear from man than from a black bear.
How nice. And naive
I agree. That was kinda scary.
That was by far the best episode. That ending was incredible.
Vouch under jj just uzgdlkarpyiw the the up my head head legs and and with
The hosting tribe were very generous and kind and apparently well fed being they let Les Stroud go.
Les, you're a tough man, Hewa is the edge of PNG jungle. I totally agree with your confession that PNG jungles is more primitive then most. PNG jungle is unique very hard to survive. Especially with the rain, limited edible vegetation/plants to gater and hunt in a jungle where only marsupials on ground with birds way up on the trees. Les, you just did it!! You have just conquered the jungle of jungles ..Iam a local man and I admit you are just a raw survivor..you make me proud!!.
Keep surviving!!...
That ending monologue was really inspiring.

“Survival, that’s just the beginning, what comes next, Is a step beyond” gave me chills, especially knowing beyond survival is next. I’ve watched these episodes for over a decade now. Seen them all countless times. Wouldn’t doubt I’ve seen some of them 100 times, this show is timeless and rewatchable like no other. Thank you for years of being someone I know I can look up too. If someone was lying about people you lived with and cared about for so long, you may take the time to comment as well. Pretty telling though, that folks don't care about truth. But hey, it looks cool though, right? And Les made his money off of them, so that's what matters.

Which has zero to do with this one video. Infact you are doing the same thing on UA-cam it's just that no one watches you enough for you to make any money. Haters gonna hate. I’m from Hawaiʻi, and when I was in college me and my college roommate decided to go to the local Micronesian-owned corner store where they sold the nuts. On an empty stomach, the effects lasted over an hour. I can only imagine what it would be like to do it on the verge of literal starvation.
gurning all over the place
@12FPSeZ Yeah that is pretty hilarious 😆
They don't make you trip, the main active chemicals are all stimulants, not hallucinogens. Similar in strength to a higher dose of nicotine. Just has a higher effect on Les because he has little to no drug tolerance. A pack a day smoker would barely even notice the effects of betel nut. (Other than the numbing qualities) It is a very weak drug overall.
Someone's never done drugs lol
