I bought my bike new and it’s never been worked on by anyone else but me. And every bit of maintenance I’ve done I’ve learned from your videos. I’m extremely grateful. It’s so hard to find mechanics that will take all the proper steps like you do (like lubricating the bolt threads before torquing them down) and thanks to you, I can do it properly myself and save a bunch of money and time. And any time I see someone post a question about how to work on their bike I refer them to your channel. Cheers from Maui Hawaii Sir!
Good morning Justin, thank you for your kind words of support and encouragement, we're really glad that our content can help you out and we appreciate the feedback! Take care and have a great weekend when it arrives!!
Big thanks from the other side of the pond on adjusting my 1200c clutch. You have become my go to site for maintaince. God bless America, The Queen and Harley-Davidaons.
I used this video to adjust my brand new clutch 2 years ago, that you taught me to install, and here I am again, using your video to readjust. Superb videos Sir!
So far, I've adjusted the clutch, replaced the brake pads, replaced spark plugs, replaced sparkplug wires and put a blinding new headlight on my 2010 XL883L...saved mad case AND takes the mystery out of what the mechanics are doing. Simply awesome site!
I've had non-stop HD issues from rocker box leaks to learning oil changes to now having clutch slipping issues. Your video was THE BEST I've seen nice and close shots, no random cutting out parts (I need to see the entire process). Now I'm going to try to figure out what in the world is going on with my clutch. Thank you very much too bad you weren't near by I've had a hard time finding someone I trust working on my bike I'd love to have you look at it.
Like so many already, I am a big fan. All your videos are so clear and properly broken down. I especially love the fact you give a bit of the logic behind each action. 1. That being said, when you are adjusting you use the word "seat" I am only assuming here, that you mean gently unscrew as far as it goes before you cannot go anymore, and then a quarter of a turn clockwise. All done 2. Can I use copper grease for all my torque screws and for that matter for anything that requires grease? I am about to go ahead and do my primary oil change , and would be inspecting the clutch as well. Would appreciate your answers to the question above. Thanks
Hi Angad.. Got your questions, an thanks for your kind comments too.. Ok, with the word 'seat' yes, it refers to the screw reaching the stop point where is wont turn any more...no need to twist it hard, just once the screw driver meets a little resistance, stop there and screw back in (clockwise) one quarter turn. And Yes, you can use copper grease, or even the grey coloured "anti seize" would be fine...but only on places that are likely to seize or corrode.... and also always use red rubber grease on rubber seals if you can as it is less corrosive than regular grease of copper grease when it touches rubber...! Hope that all helps you sir.. good luck with it.. Del.
anyone watching these videos or if you have never watched a video from this video series pay attention you won't find any information any more helpful you can learn every aspect of bike maintenance these videos are the best on UA-cam have watched many many myself and have learned a ton of valuable information so thankful thanks del keep up the awesome work
Hi Curtis, you are too kind my friend - it's important to share the things we know, nobody owns knowledge and with the rates that garages have to charge in order to survive, many youngsters simply can't afford to have their bikes fixed by a mechanic... appreciate you watching the videos and taking the time to comment, all the best, D&P!
Thank you Kyle, thats very kind of you Sir, this video has been a great help to many riders, and its such a simple task to, just not common knowledge... take care and thanks for watching buddy... cheers, Del.
Another satisfied customer saying thank you Del! I have an 07 Sporty XL1200, 7K miles. Just got it 6 weeks ago, decided to change the trans fluid, and check the clutch while I was in there. I looked at some other videos and thought I was ready, but my clutch didn't look anything like the others I saw. Thankfully I found yours when I had everything open. I confess I had to do it twice, because the trans was still warm when I did the fluid change. I readjusted the clutch tonight when it was cool, and then took her out for a nice 20 mile stretch of the legs. It's all good! Many thanks from Dave in Pennsylvania.
+gfish66 Hi Dave, thats great to hear buddy, we love it when the videos find a use, and this is one that lots of people find helpfull. Now you've done it, you'll always be able to check it when the miles con round for a service... Thanks for your kind comments my friend, and enjoy your Sporty... all the best.. Del.
Hi Del, Just wanted to say THANK YOU . I've watched all your videos On sportsters . The weather is starting to warm up a bit so today i went out in the garage changed the oil and filter , adjusted the clutch , and primary chain . Its been a good day and thanks to you an easy one . O ya just wondering have you thought about making up some Delboy's Garage window decals ? If you ever do let us all know im sure lots of us would buy one ..
Hi Terry, well done on prepping up the Sportster, that's the spirit mate, you'd have paid £200 for that in a H-D dealership! We have been looking in to getting some proper stickers done, but with everything going on, it's just getting round to it! Thanks for watching, all the best, ride safe, Del
My father has a 1987 883 hugger , the process was the same , but the cable adjustment is located against the primary cover instead of a mid cable adjustment. Anyway he has had harley for 30 plus years and just couldnt get over how well you explained it. He said man that guys a good teacher, he know his s#i" ( stuff) lol. So thanks from both of us buddy.
Hi Del, just used this video this afternoon to do my clutch adjustment. Was anxious about it but your instructions are so clear. Thanks for all the servicing videos on the Sportster. Will be doing the service (taking my time) using your help.
Thank you kindly, Tony, those comments coming from an aircraft mechanic are very profound and mean a great deal - congratulations on getting the Iron, I am sure she'll love it very much, they are a perfect bike for cutting your teeth on, then continuing on to live with for years ...thanks for your kind support in watching us over here in Blighty... take care and ride safe, Del
Thanks Del, I embed them all and I find myself waiting for your next upload to share. Being a sportster owner I always refer other riders on the XLForum to these vids. I like to be familiar with what im doing first when doing jobs on my new bike and your videos help me to actually get the spanners out and have a play. Thanks again and keep up with the good work!! Really enjoyable and informative videos!!
Hi David, mate, the job is simplicity itself, the bike uses an 'in-line pressure switch'...cast your eyes in the gap under the left side panel by the fluid reservoir, along the brake hose there you will find a 'T-piece' junction union with 2 electrical wires plugged into it, take the wires off, undo the hose unions either side, bolt and plug the new one in & bleed it through, job done, if you are lucky it could just be one of the wires have come off, good luck with it, hope that helps you, Del
I used your video to adjust my brothers clutch on a sportster...did the job and the bike is just like new again... a very clear way to explain how to do it. thank you....
Thank you sooooooh much ! 🌞 💖💕🌷 I'm a girl and have had a leaky primary fixed 3 times at the dealership at my cost I found your primary and clutch video and got my manual out no rubber o-ring on clutch cable ! And someone wrapped electrical tape around clutch adjust nut " I'm really getting to know and love working on my bike 💖💕 I can't thank you enough I am very greatfull for all the little details you provide for beginners 🌷💖💕🌞I have a 1994 XLH hugger 1200
i must say you are the best at teaching us" how to's" if i spent a day with you at the garage i could probably gain a year of lnowledge, thanks for your time and videos,i enjoy watching
Well done! Your perfect for explaining how to work on bikes! So many people are vague and don't explain well! Great job! Look forward to more videos from you!
I am beyond grateful for your uploading this video! Really thought I was going to have to replace the clutch on my 1200 Sportster. Your instructions were spot on and my bike is functioning perfectly now. Let me know if you're ever in Texas and we will gladly treat you to a barbecue dinner!
Hi Del, Nice refresher video for me. Gee! I thought I was the only one that used a torque wrench to speck things back together. Very good to see someone else take the time to do it right. Thanks again. Vince
Excellent, and that is exactly why i post them up, times are hard, folks need to get to work and earn to feed the babies....i have known of people selling thier bikes because they cannot afford the servicing bills...imagine that?.. im so glad it helped you out and thanks for taking the time to comment... ride free brother.. Del.
Well, turns out you were right about trying it with the engine running. I had assumed erroneously that putting it in first gear and holding the clutch in was a good way to check for proper adjustment, but it doesn't roll naturally that way. However, once the engine was running everything worked just fine! Thanks again for the video and good advice.
Thanks Wayne, you are very kind... it is a hard old financial time for the western world these days, and if we can just hold on to the things we have worked for over the years, by keeping them maintained ourselves, and using them sparingly, we will push out the other side into the daylight, and can live a little once again... also, to spanner your own bike brings you closer to it, more in touch with its state of health, and that has be to all good.. take care buddy.. Del.
Hi there...please tell your father from me that from a man of his wealth of experience that is truly praise indeed and I really appreciate it... I just like to post up the things we do as a matter of course and hope that they can be of use to others at the same time... thank you both so much for your kind support, the channel would be nothing without it's viewers! Thanks mate, Del
This is perfect! I was just working on my sportster today and your tips are spot on. I really like all the tips on adding grease to the bolts, and checking the slack at the handle bar when buttoning things back up. Thanks a million....
I bought my first sporster in February the mechanic going over it made the clutch adjustment sound complicated you have inspired me to order the manual and do my own maintenance!
Hello my friend, good to hear from you again, thank you kindly for that most generous post... it is heartening and encouraging to know that people find them useful and that they are fit for the purpose designed LOL! Take care again, my friend, and enjoy your Iron! Del
You're videos on Sportsters (and other i'd imagine) are awesome. I've got an '05 883 custom and have saved tons of aggravation by watching your videos first. Most things are common sense but a lot aren't. I really appreciate the work you put in on these. You've been a huge help. I'm getting ready to buy a 2015 iron thanks in part to watching you with yours. Keep the videos coming!!!!
Hi Leeland ... congrats on your Harley and don't beat yourself up about taking it to the dealer, these guys do it every day and it's nothing to them, they will make a great job and you can ride your bike with confidence... knowing when to step back and hand it to the pros is the difference between keeping your bike safe and taking a risk...and after all, owning a bike is about the riding first and foremost... good luck and take care, Del
Thanks for your gift of valuable information - it encourages me tackle the routine maintenance myself which in turn brings me to know my bike better. You are one of the few people I subscribe and I appreciate your thorough presentation and precise information. Good stuff - you look like a great and generous guy. Thanks again - Eric
Eric Lee Hello Eric, good to hear from you! Glad the videos can help you, it's simple stuff once you know how... good luck with your future projects and thanks for watching !
First of all, thanks for getting back to me so fast! Ok so when I adjusted it, I didn't put the derby cover on correctly so I had to change the primary oil since some leaked. I already changed it and it's still doing that. I put one quart in.
Hi Jorge! Great to hear from you all the way from Mexico and I'm glad to hear you do your own checks and maintenance, it's the best way because you get to know your bike better and you can enjoy owning it more... ride safe my friend, Del
No worries mate, you must go with the bolt torque you think right, mostly these days i tend to nip them up hand tight and then a tetch more.. and use marker paint to keep an eye on them...good going, glad you got it sorted out.. Del.
I always learn something new from watching your videos. Thanks so much for all the tips. You always make tasks look so easy, this is a sure sign of a person who knows what he is doing. Take care and thanks again!
Thanks for that video. It was very helpful. I was hit by a car and wrecked my bike pretty good Ive been trying to fix everything by tomorrow so that i can go on the run to Yuma Arizona,. Thats the last thing i needed to do was change the clutch handle and cable.
Hey man I have to thank you. Your videos are the best explanations I've found so far. You answer little questions as you go. It's really helpful. Thanks
Wasn't too excited about doing this little job, but thanks to your excellent video it really was five to ten minutes and turned out to be enjoyable and rewarding, thanks mate really helpful, a big thumbs up to you:)
+dormantsuperhero Thanks buddy, really glad the video could help you out, and yeah, its not nearly as hard as it seems once you understand the anatomy of the parts and how they come apart, the rest is easy.... thanks for getting in touch. take care.. Del.
Put a new cable in today and adjusted as per your instructions. So good you even mentioned the torque settings too. Legend mate, love your vids and many thanks for sharing. Cheers 🍻
Hello, Del Thank for you for sharing this. Your videos have really helped me be more hands on with my bike. It's upsetting to think about all the money I could have saved if I had tried sooner. Thank you again! All the way from South Africa!
You are most welcome Hloma, im glad the videos can inspire you to get involved and make your own way... and it's also great to hear from you all the way from my Homeland.
Hey there buddy....you must do this with the bike 'standing straight up'...not because it has any effect on the adjustment, that's the same either way....but when you take the inspection cover off, the primary oil will pour out. so stand it upright to make this adjustment.. hope that helps matey... cheers, Del.
Hi Jeff, Like the video says mate, slacken off all the cable tension, then BACK THE SCREW OUT UNTIL IT SEATS GENTLY.....THEN TURN IT BACK IN A QUARTER OF A TURN....Then place the lock nut and spring assembly on, and then the Derby cover to hold it all in place... hope that's what you wanted buddy... take care, Del.
Thanks Stephen, you're very kind....i appreciate the support and im glad they are being used as intended, to help riders learn a bit and save some cash... take care and thanks again.. Del.
You hopefully get Paid for this, cause this is better than The manual! And you point out Key points as you go.....I'm a Turbine engine Mechanic and You Rock! keep up the great work Dude!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why thank you kindly, Sir, you are most generous... I have a fair few videos on Discovery now, I think they have about 30 odd banked ready to use that I've sent them & so far there are about 9-10 on their website, as they have to edit them down ... I'm glad you found this useful, I guess we do it methodically and slowly to make it easy for the un-trained watcher to pick it up & once you've done any job once, then it becomes easy ...thanks for watching and subscribing, take care, Del
What a refreshing change to see someone who understands little but important things like tightening bolts in a star pattern. I cringe when I see so called experts tightening bolts in a clockwise or anticlockwise pattern and then have issues such as oil leakage. I use graphite grease on fasteners. Not sure if it's any better than normal grease, just something I've always done.
+Tony Little Hi Tony, thanks for your kind commets yes i use copper grease or anti sieze on bolts a lot of the time, mainly if they get a lot of weather that will dry them out... thanks for watching... all the best.. Del.
Thanks for all the help. The bike is a 2005 Sportster and I've serviced it with the factory primary chaincase/transmission lubricant. By plates do you mean the ramp assembly (piece with the three bearings inside that opens slightly when twisted?) - that piece is clean and free of debris. Bike operated just fine until I changed the cable yesterday. Hasn't really ever sat for long. I will make a video later if I can't figure it o ut.
Hi Del, great video I cannot express how great it is to find someone who is making repair and maintenance vids on the sportster, it seems most of the other ones are on the "Big Twin" engines. . I've been a sportster fan and rider for many years now, currently I'm riding a 03 1200 sporty and your videos are a major help, the only thing that I keep forgetting is to convert the torque specs you mention to ft lbs instead of metric. .lol Again a big thanks from a fellow enthusiast in the USA, thanks Mark.
Mark Gaston Hi Mark, good to hear from you fellah, and thanks so much for your kind endorsement... there are a fair few videos on Sportsters and there's not much you can't do yourself on them, as they are pretty basic! Always feel free to drop us a line, online pretty much every day, ride safe, Del
thanks for the reply, I have always done most of my own repairs, cause if I mess it then I can only blame myself, btw, do you have any suggestions on how to adjust a craig programmable electronic module, my bike has one that was already installed when I got it, however the adjustments that look like mini dials have somehow got out of adjustment, I don't really have the funds to put it on a dyno. Any advice would be very helpful, thanks, Mark
+Mark Gaston Hi Mark, sorry but i dont have any experience of the module you asked about...did it come with any instructions, or can you download any form the makers website...just a thought..?
Great video. Put in a new cable today (old one had small leak) and for the life of me can't get it to adjust properly. Followed this video exactly (as well as the FSM a dozen times) and best I can do is get the bike to drag really bad with it in gear. I haven't started it yet, but I'm testing it with the clutch in, in first gear, to see if I can get the bike to roll smooth... It will peg against the gear but roll with great effort, like the clutch is only half engaged.
Just had to come back to this video when I replaced the cable on my other sporty haha. Found out a neat little trick, if you push in on the plate while you're adjusting with the flathead screwdriver, you can feel it better when it starts to grab.
Was just about to drop the XL off at the shop for an adjustment...ha! Won't be doing that anymore...all at once, the most clarity with respect to wrenching - a blind man would have had no issues sorting it. Cheers Del!!
Nice video. I am looking for as many how toos as possible as I have a future plan to put 16" apes on my sportster and want to go in to it fully confident. This is one along with the throttle/idle cable adjustment I have yet to totally understand. You did a good job staying simple and really explaining, feeling another step closer to jumping in to my swap. Thanks man
Hi Kevin. i like your approach buddy, taking the time to get your information and prepare your task, its not hard, and if you buy yourself a proper genuine Harley Davidson workshop manual from the dealer then you can refer to it for any tips and help you need...they also have fully detailed photographs to equate to the bike as you work and help you along.....admittedly they are pricey, and for that reason many people wont bother buying one but look at your manual as the most valuable tool in your garage and it will help you more than any video ever will buddy... good luck and let me know how you get on with the bar swap...happy new year and ride safe.. Del.
Good going mate, and thanks for the kind sentiment....i just load up the things i do in the garage, and it seems that plenty of riders out there can benefit from it, im glad you learn a bit, thats why i load them up, and if we can all share a bit of help with our fellow riders, then we all become stronger.... take care.. Del.
Thanks Del, It all went well, the clutch adjustment spring was broke their was still pressure but not as much as their should have been i readjusted everything just like you said and got a new spring .I took The bike out for about a 5 mile ride seemed to be perfect the only thing i did different was set the bolts to 7 foot lbs 11 nm seemed way too much i'll keep an eye on it ....Thanks again
Great video and the detail is spot on - helped me find out why i was getting clutch jam - no spring on the adjuster - no idea why not - but that should be problem solved when i order one up - cheers Pete
You need your own show on televison, I could see it now ( Delboy's Garage premiering next week on speed channel, check your local listings) lol, no but serious , you the man for the man that needs a mechanic hand. Cheers!
@@Moonfleet41 ended up getting it done, but what should've been a simple job ended up taking 2 hours when the screws rounded out. The idiots who owned it before me put locktight on the derby cover screws! Ugh!
Hi mate, you are too kind, its just sharing a bit of knowledge with my fellow bikers... Welcome to biking mate, and good show for buying a Harley, correct decision, in becoming a biker you have joined a brotherhood, so be sure to pass on the gesture when you can.... take care and ride safe... Del.
Just got Back from a Test drive.....Thanks a Million! Was having a terrible time finding Second and after watching your advice/video tutorial and doing just as you suggested My 2010 "48" Scoots along Like New.... Bravo and Again "Thanks"!
Hi Tom. We love to hear that the video has helped a fellow rider, thats what they are for.. and thank you so much for the kind things you said, its a pleasure to be of help.. and no, we don't get paid, but i think if this was my living, i wouldn't care about it so much.. Ride safe brother... all the best.. Del.
Hi mate, i've 178 videos, and about half of them are bike maintenence, have a scroll through the early ones, i did a 5k service on my XR1200, (plugs are childs play).. the first thing you should do is buy a genuine Harley Davidson Sportster workshop manual, get it direct from the dealer, they're a bit over £60, have every job covered, tollerances and settings, and some great exaplainations that are easy to follow, also if your bike is under warranty, speak to the dealer about doing your own work
Thanks for the vid mate! Im brand new too bikes and just got my first Harley and your helping me out shed loads! Many thanks n keep up the good work, ride safe
Hi there I have a 2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster Being new go the Moto world I am really grateful to you guys that take the time to pass n your experience, knowledge and expertise so anything you could share I would be glad of Cheers again for all your hard work
Hi Steve, congratulations on your new bike, you must be very proud. Happy to help any time if i can, just holler if you need anything mate... good luck with it.. Del.
Acquired a 1995 1200 last fall clunks going in gear .a little concerning . Use to old big twins where they go in seamlessly. So going to try your method. Do not want to wreck gears or shift forks over something that simple as an adjustment. Thanks for video.
Change the primary oil mate, once it gets a little worn out, the plates can get stuck together... which can lead to heavy shifting... do the clutch adjustment whilst you've got the derby cover off and then when you do shift in to gear, pull the clutch in and wiat 2/3 seconds before selecting the gear and it'll go in a lot more gently!
@@Moonfleet41 OK I did change fluid when I acquired it. But running to dealer needs new quad ring I'll change again was sitting 10 years. Have been test riding so maybe it cleaned out some grit . Primary chain looks ok inspected no rust on it. Will adjust that about 3/4 inch says 3/8 in book no tight and loose . Thanks for suggestions
really great videos. you helped me tons. just got a 2001 883, love it. coming from dirt bikes it's a whole different world. thanks for your help my man. cheers
What a great video. You make it look so easy....and it actually is. I just adjusted my clutch which had been annoying me for a while. Keep up the good work. JL
Hi there....if you install any new clutch cable it means backing off all the settings...so yes, just resset all the adjustments as shown here, hook the bottom inside the case, then use the middle bottle screw to set the lever to 3mm of play....and its always worth checking the pack freeplay on the nut too... hope that helps.. Del.
Hi buddy.. the most likely cause could be that the lever (whilst it may not have broken) it could have bent inwards a bit...that means when you pull it into the bar it isn';t tugging enough cable out of the clutch to open it fully..i would imagine if you replace the lever that it will work normally again...that's the only component that was hurt, so that has to be it... Good luck, Del.
Will do Del. I've had a Twin Cam (carb) Road King & a FXST (carb) Softail but have gone to a 'sporty'. I love the simplicity of the sportster engine & don't mind getting my hands dirty. Got the factory manual & your vids. Have a happy & safe 2017.
Hi Max, there are a couple of things that can lead to this. The reason it won't dis-engage the transmission is that the clutch is not fully releasing the drive so there is still load on it,the reason it's not releasing the drive is that the clutch plates are still binding together when you pull the lever in...they could need adjusting or more likely, be dirty, best thing do a full clutch adjustment like this video says, then change the primary oil & use fresh Screamin Eagle Syn3 oil..should fix it
Hi there, yeah, some guys can make taking out the trash sound complicated...clutch adjustment is a simple task as are many basic maintanance jobs...and buying the manual is a very good move, read each job you plan to do in the house first, sat with a coffee, and let it sink in.. then take the manual out with you, and just go through it step by step.. well done for getting involved yourself, it will save you money too.. good luck and thanks for watching.. Del.
Absolutely Brilliant video this one and others of yours. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and time. Being a pretty fair car mechanic myself but a total noob on motorcycles your video's impart much knowledge and wisdom.
Yes my friend, they can, all you need to do is ask them for a shipping price and they will quote you the final figure, printed and sent direct to you..!
@TheFirejacker you are very welcome sir, its a pleasure to help, the main dealers do very little to help thier customers learn simple jobs like this, hell, i think they would even make money from running proper classes, but in my lifetime, i have never seen it once... maybe its more lucrative to just charge you a fee and hand you a coffee while you wait... take care.. Del.
The birds in the background add a simplicity to it all - a nice peaceful feel to servicing a Harley! Good show!

1. That being said, when you are adjusting you use the word "seat" I am only assuming here, that you mean gently unscrew as far as it goes before you cannot go anymore, and then a quarter of a turn clockwise. All done
Del.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
You're welcome buddy....glad it helped.
Hi Del, just used this video this afternoon to do my clutch adjustment. Was anxious about it but your instructions are so clear. Thanks for all the servicing videos on the Sportster. Will be doing the service (taking my time) using your help.
Very welcome Mark, glad to help.. Good luck with them.
This guy's good.
yes....has to be the best MM ive ever seen !
Thanks you my friend, and thanks for taking the time to let us know that the video helped you out - enjoy the sunshine, all the best, D&P!
Most welcome, thank you for your kind feedback, im glad it helped!
8 years later and this is still an excellent video. Thanks.
Thanks Alan, ive doen another couple of them since, both on a Softail and Dyna.. always a popular theme..
Awesome video. You definitely have the heart of a teacher. As a new bike owner I appreciate you doing this.
i must say you are the best at teaching us" how to's" if i spent a day with you at the garage i could probably gain a year of lnowledge, thanks for your time and videos,i enjoy watching
Thank you Sandy, you are very kind... im glad the videos can help you out...
Hi Del,
Nice refresher video for me.
Thanks for the how to! Was kind of weary of the job but after seeing you do it it's so easy! Thanks again!
Stop looking around, this is the man, I have seen lots of them from every sportster thing, nobody it's better than this guy explaining every detail.
You did the best illustration on adjusting the clutch on UA-cam.
Delboy i am from Mexico and i just want to say thanks you for the videos, i do a lot checks and adjustments by my self.
Cheers 🍻
Most welcome Sir, am glad this old video could still help you and great to hear you got it fixed, appreciate your feedback and kind support!
Another "thank you" out to 'the man'... you deserve it. Really appreciate your guidance.
Thanks buddy, glad it helped, thanks for watching!
Hands down best bike service videos on youtube. You're a hero.
Why thank you most kindly sir.!
Once again, THANK YOU! I just finished my adjustment and it was as easy as you stated in your video. You and your wife ROCK!
Thank You Yve, glad the video helped you.... all the best, D&Px
Hello, Del
Thank for you for sharing this.
Hi Jeff,
Like the video says mate, slacken off all the cable tension, then BACK THE SCREW OUT UNTIL IT SEATS GENTLY.....THEN TURN IT BACK IN A QUARTER OF A TURN....Then place the lock nut and spring assembly on, and then the Derby cover to hold it all in place... hope that's what you wanted buddy... take care, Del.
Thanks Stephen, you're very kind....i appreciate the support and im glad they are being used as intended, to help riders learn a bit and save some cash... take care and thanks again.. Del.
You are so kind sir, the short simple comments like this mean a great deal to me, thank you. Ride safe, Del.
Clear, articulate, thoughtful, and like all good lessons, your passion carries us through. Had a great time watching. Cheers.
Hi Del, great video I cannot express how great it is to find someone who is making repair and maintenance vids on the sportster, it seems most of the other ones are on the "Big Twin" engines. . I've been a sportster fan and rider for many years now, currently I'm riding a 03 1200 sporty and your videos are a major help, the only thing that I keep forgetting is to convert the torque specs you mention to ft lbs instead of metric. .lol
Again a big thanks from a fellow enthusiast in the USA, thanks Mark.
I learn something new everytime i watch one of these sportster videos, and its a good thing because i own nightster and am on a budget! Great video!
Del.
THANKS Del - super simple, easy, and fast - thanks for a great vid. Saves me a "Hunda-Dolla" every time !
Wow, good going buddy, it's a honour to be able to help... ride safe!
Good going mate, and thanks for the kind sentiment....i just load up the things i do in the garage, and it seems that plenty of riders out there can benefit from it, im glad you learn a bit, thats why i load them up, and if we can all share a bit of help with our fellow riders, then we all become stronger.... take care.. Del.
Great video. Just replaced my clutch cable after it broke. This video helped a lot.
Thanks Del,
It all went well, the clutch adjustment spring was broke their was still pressure but not as much as their should have been i readjusted everything just like you said and got a new spring .I took The bike out for about a 5 mile ride seemed to be perfect the only thing i did different was set the bolts to 7 foot lbs 11 nm seemed way too much i'll keep an eye on it ....Thanks again
Well done! One of the best clear and concise explanations I've seen.
Great video and the detail is spot on - helped me find out why i was getting clutch jam - no spring on the adjuster - no idea why not - but that should be problem solved when i order one up - cheers Pete
I’m from Texas and I have a 72. This is the most informal vid I have ever seen. You are a great bike tech, and I’m totally impressed.
Some of the best videos on UA-cam. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Your videos are top notch! Your videos make a seemingly difficult task very doable.
Thank you Terry, we're glad you enjoy the videos!
Hi Brandon, sorry to hear about your accident, I hope you are ok, buddy, well done on getting ready for the run - hope you have a great time! Del
You need your own show on televison, I could see it now ( Delboy's Garage premiering next week on speed channel, check your local listings) lol, no but serious , you the man for the man that needs a mechanic hand. Cheers!
Thanks for the video, just did my sportster a service and adjusted the clutch. Put about 2mm freeplay on the lever.
fantastic video! Easy to follow, and makes even a middle school teacher like me feel like I can do this myself!
Thank you buddy, it's a simple adjustment and due every 5k, it pays to get to know it!
Del.
Del you are awesome thanks for all the proper info and teaching the right way to work on a sportster. Cheers from New York
John Randazzese Thanks John, you're very kind, glad the videos can help you out... ride safe brother!
Great video, thanks. Not a lot of unnecessary or unrelated dialogue, just good factual description.
Thank you very much, much appreciated my friend...
Hi there
I have a 2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster
Being new go the Moto world I am really grateful to you guys that take the time to pass n your experience, knowledge and expertise so anything you could share I would be glad of
Cheers again for all your hard work
Hi Steve, congratulations on your new bike, you must be very proud.
Thanks for suggestions
really great videos. you helped me tons. just got a 2001 883, love it. coming from dirt bikes it's a whole different world. thanks for your help my man. cheers
You're most welcome, what a change to come off dirt bikes on to a Harley, but it's not un-common oddly enough - hope you are enjoying your new bike !
What a great video. You make it look so easy....and it actually is. I just adjusted my clutch which had been annoying me for a while. Keep up the good work.
JL
I just reviewed this vid rather than pull-out my shop manual for yet another clutch adjustment. Thanks!
Really love the vids, this is a great help to us newbies . Got a friend that needs to see your vids. Excellent job explaining the process.
Good Lord, that looks so simple even I could do it. Nicely explained. Thank you!
Cheers Del I bought an 05 Custom & I'm going through all your old Sportster Vids A++
Good choice Jack, glad the video can help you out matey, drop us a line if you need a second opinion or get stuck... happy new year fellah.. D&Px
Thank you Michael - glad the videos could help you my friend, thank you for your kind feedback!
Hey those shirts and stuff on your site can they still be ordered and shiped to us?
Yes my friend, they can, all you need to do is ask them for a shipping price and they will quote you the final figure, printed and sent direct to you..!
@TheFirejacker you are very welcome sir, its a pleasure to help, the main dealers do very little to help thier customers learn simple jobs like this, hell, i think they would even make money from running proper classes, but in my lifetime, i have never seen it once... maybe its more lucrative to just charge you a fee and hand you a coffee while you wait... take care.. Del.
