My heart goes out to you. I had to rehome my two Congo African Grey parrots. I had raised them from day nine.I had their parents, which I also had to rehome. My reason for all this is that I became very sick, &hospitalized for all of 2023. I am also 86 years old. I fell head over heels in love with parrots in 1991. At that time I came down with pneumonia which left me with CFS(chronic fatigue syndrome) which I still have. My age was not a problem, being sick was the problem .Losing my birds broke my heart & left me with severe depression. Presently I only have one. Cockatiel. My Grey parrots spoke fluent English and were very affectionate. I also had a Sun Conure who is no more. As I said My heart goes out to you, & understand your pain. I love your channel & family. My Cockatiel is healthy thanks to you & your feed system.❤😊
Any loss is never easy, and forgiving yourself less so. Grief is such a profound personal process, but thank you for sharing and continuing to educate along your journey.
Your honesty and transparency is one of the things I love most about you Jaime. Thank you for making a positive impact on the avian community and providing these life saving (free) information to better protect our birds. Your strength and tenacity is inspiring. Thank you 💜 and peace with your losses
I remembered that you briefly mentioned that she passed but wondered why you didn't go into much detail. I assumed that maybe the pain was too much at that time and it really wasn't our business to pry. I personally don't like talking about my grief openly with friends, so I get it. Thanks for sharing this with us. It is always hard to lose a pet. I have dogs and birds. It never gets easier. I find that every new death reopens the wound of the previous one. So, it's double the grief.
Thank you for making these grief/loss videos, Jamieleigh. It makes it so clear to the rest of us how delicate and complicated our feathered friend are. Every day with them is a gift. ❤
Loss my dearest is never easy 😢 it is a process. Give yourself time hunni bunch to give yourself and family some tlc. God bless you and thankyou for all of your beautiful wonderful videos
You have a lot of birds. You are giving them a great life. Thank you so very much for sharing. I was wondering what happened. Life happens and we have to live it the best we can. You are a great example, thank you for your transparency.
The biggest hugs, loss is never easy and being transparent can hurt almost as much because sometimes people are just not nice. I am so thankful for you and your family and all you have taught me to be an even better pet parent. You give these birds the best life. More hugs!!
I appreciate you sharing about this, as hard as it was to do. That was a tremendous amount of loss to deal with all at one time. I'm so sorry that happened to both Detka and Rocko (and Bandit and Berry too 😢)
I hope that by filming and posting this video, you find that it helps you with processing the grief. Grief is a process that, for me, comes in layers. Thank you for sharing 💖
Awwww Cressi is so sweet! ❤ I woke up this morning to a dream that turned really scary. I dreamed that my grey choked on water and it seemed like he was gone, but I was able to save him and he held my finger. It was so wonderful to wake up to him saying "are you okay?". ❤. ......I'm okay as long as he is. Upon waking up more, I was thinking about how I wish there was a bird first aid course I could take. There are so many things that could go wrong that could need an immediate remedy. I know a lot about human health, but I'm afraid that if something went wrong I wouldn't have time to find the answers. I look to you as my most reliable information source, so it seemed very fitting and coincidental to find your care book and this video when I picked up my phone. Thank you for all that you do. ❤ I'm sorry for your double loss. I lost 2 of my grandparents within 4 days in 2007. I know the grief can be extra difficult. I'm glad Deeka's loss was a bit easier for you. I believe that you feel your feelings very deeply like I do. I'm also sorry for your loss of Rocco, I know that was very hard on you. I cry with you, knowing that if I outlive my Coco, that's going to be a terrible awful time for me, but I also don't want him to feel the grief of my death. I hope that we go at the same time. He's my world, and I'm his. ❤
Saddened for you for your losses…praying for your hearts to be comforted. You all love your feathered family deeply…and such losses hurt so very deeply…compassion to you~
I'm so sorry, I have followed along on here with you guys for so long and have seen you all grow from the cruise ship shows to the loss of Bandit Boy, Rocco and now your sun conure, grief never gets easier, time just dulls the fresh sharp edges. Remember them all with fondness and smiles.
Awe I’m so sorry for yalls loss! But I’m so glad you created something good out of it. I haven’t left on vacation for four years because it’s just my mom and I that know how to care for my bird
You help so much more than harm this bird community. And I profoundly thank you. I too lost 2 birds for 2 totally different reason in one month. One I had for about 9 years. It’s so heartbreaking. I can understand having to address it when ready.
I'm glad you posted this. ❤ it's relief knowing the best of the best has things to happen too. I lost a cockatiel recently. I did all the right things I've seen and did my best but she had problems regardless. Thank you for telling the truth 🥰
Gosh! I'm so sorry love! I'm so sorry, bless you bless your sweet heart, you are working wonders with these birds and humans, it's so so hard when we lose our friends but, they, and we need you while we are all here. Blessings and much love! Friends in Heaven are watching out for you ❤
As others I appreciate you sharing and being vulnerable so we can learn from your experiences. I would kindly and with all sympathy ask that when other bird owners have a loss please be sensitive to their feelings. Sometimes you can come across as accusatory and demeaning when talking about other bird owners. I don't think you do it on purpose but it can be hurtful in times of loss. I dread the day that may happen to me. I have an African Grey that is 30 years old now (with me the whole time) and would be devastated. Not sure I could find the courage to share as you did. Thank you God Bless
I'm so sorry for your loss 💔 I'm always here for you, and I understand what you are going through. I lost 7 of my canaries because of different health issue, I feel like they have all showed me something and in the future I am now much more mindful x Fly high Detka x
I so appreciate your honesty and especially your willingness to be vulnerable! Hugs to you for your loss, and you did an excellent job informing us what happened and how it has affected you.
The guilt. That was overwhelming for me because I lost my dusky conure unexpectedly and was so deep in the grief that I didn't notice my ringneck was off and ended losing her shortly after. They were both the cuddly ones of our flock and that hit us hard. The silence was so loud. Wish I could hug you through the screen. We did the necropsis as well and they were helpful.
These things are so hard. We always feel like we should have done more and it would be different but sadly, it probably wouldn't be. What Rocco went through just unfortunately highlights how little we truly know about these birds. But you do your absolute best for them, they are happy, loved and have so much enrichment. My cockatoo has only been sick once thank God and he pulled through but it was the worst time in my life and I couldn't make a video talking about it. Thank you for the video and for loving your birds. I'm just so grateful right now that his vet does boarding for your birds if you go away, my galah loves it there, he never wants to come home 😂
When you take the upsides and gains of opening your heart to people and pets, the inevitable downside is to experience loss too. All your birds had a better life than the near-totality of pet or wild birds. Thanks again for your educational videos, they helped me give a better life to an old-ish macaw who has a busy owner who didn't know how to tame it.
Seeing this title was rough. We lost our Sun Conure "Theo" a few years back. Every time I think of him my emotions swirl through happiness, grief, and guilt. They are such wonderful birds. I am sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing your story.
sorry to hear but youve done great with the birbs. if it wasnt for your videos on Cressi years ago, I wouldnt have got my Congo African Grey. Keep up the great work.
Sorry for that loss so long ago and thanks for updating us. How big is your flock now and who does it all comprise of? 5 B&G, 3 Scarlet and 1 GW Macaw here along with 2 CAG's
This so sad I can understand Sometimes you can’t take the parrot with you on vacation This is disadvantage of pets Eventually one day the go But maannn Roco and blueberry were one of the best birds in bird tricks Sad to see them gone
Aww Jamie, wish life was more fair, because if it was you would still have Bandit, Rocco, Blueberry and Detka. I’ve been with you for all these years, watching these beautiful babies who lived a great life with a human family that dedicates themselves to the love and care of these feathered friends. I believe if they could choose, they’d pick you all over again as their family. Sorry Detka had to leave, maybe she needed to help Rocco cross over to 🌈Bridge. They are there having a beautiful time while waiting for their family so you can all be together again.❤🕊😇😇😇😇❤🪽
😢When God closes 1 door, he opens up another. Your loss prompted you to write a handbook for bird care givers that in the future may save others birds. Thank you for opening your heart and sharing your grief as difficult as it was. We appreciate you for all you do, hugs!😢
I lost my Mexican Green Conure Jynx 3 weeks ago in a wind accident that had nothing to do with me, my husband had her out like always when a 40 mile an hour wind grabbed her off his shoulder, we tracked and attempted to rescue her 7 times but she was young and didn’t know how to come down from the tree tops. I believe that someone has her or the hawks got her either way it’s been agonizing and I’m so sad. Peace be with you all. ♥️🙏🦜
Don’t stress. Birds are notorious for hiding symptoms. I only have one African grey. I didn’t notice she was sick until really sick. She is stable now but birds are hard to read. Dealing with head of Avian lab at a university told me super easy to overlook things. Birds hide illness for self preservation even when it’s a bird you’ve lived with for 27 years. I’m just enjoying bird and trying to rehab but I’m ready for worst should it come to pass. So sorry for feathered friend loss. 😢
I had the same thing happen to me this year. My blue kakariki was playing and eating her breakfast when I left for work, but when I got back she was already lifeless on the bottom of the cage. We send her body for a necropsy and the vet said it was probably pneumonia. I still can't accept that very well. She had no signs of respiratory distress, no sneezing, she didn't seem tired and was not acting any different. The vet tried to confort me and said it was probably an acute viral infection. My green kakariki was examined and she was just fine. I think it's really hard when we don't have the answers, you're left with nothing but the feeling of "I could have done better".
From what I have heard (I also keep kakariki's) they are more prone to hearth failure compared to other birds. They also live way shorter than simular sized parots. Might have something to do with their fast reproductive rate. If you can have 4 nests with up to 10chick within one year the species doesn't need to be as healthy and long living.
Sorry :( I’m curious looking at these pics bc I just got a jenday conure. It looks like when they were younger their coloring resembled more of a jenday and they developed more (and brighter !) yellow on wings as they got older..is this correct?
I killed my four budgies by cooking a steak with a brand new pan. Teflon. Just plain stupid. I isolated the event for a few days within myself. I let a few people know, as me being a warning example. Some folks highlighted the Teflon issue as being bad for humans as well. I'm not sure about the science of that.

Thinking of you all, grief is so personal… thanks for sharing when you could. Sending hugs!
Hi! It’s frustrating not having all the answers as to what happened to your bird. One thing is certain, you are so loved Jamie! Hang in there.
You do a wonderful job caring for your birds. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Thank you for sharing your story. I lost a budgie a few years ago. I completely understand not wanting to talk about it. 🙏🏻💜

I LOVE that name that Dave choice. I will probably name my next cat after her if you guys dont mind.

Sorry for your loss😢 All your birds were loved and happy, don’t be too hard on yourself.
Does anyone know why the name? Detka is Russian for babe
Do any of y'all know how to stop your bird to from eating attached and being territorial to the stainless steel bowls

How do you know that bird wouldnt have died on that day at that minute during that very second if it was in the wild anyway?
