Thank you Bird Tricks!! Hope everyone is doing well!! It's always good to see you guys!! Your back porch looks nice and peaceful!! Have a nice evening!!❤️✌️❤️✌️
We have an "air lock" dual door entry just to make sure nobirdy flies out while we're getting in & out. We dont have a lock with a key or code (yet) but we do have the kind you slide down to secure the doors shut. We also have a cement bottom for ours and a camera. I'd be a nervous wreck without them! Another thing I recommend (especially if you DIY'd like we did) is to do routine checks to make sure every nook and cranny is still safe and bird/predator proof and withstood the weather. We've mostly had issues with robins trying to make nests super close (or even on) our aviary and harassing our birds 😑 Fortunately our dog does a great job fending off stranger birds and protects our flock! We're planning to create a fun water feature next summer 😊
Thanks for adding the extra context around using your screened porch (under supervision). I had been wondering if they nibbled on it. I'm researching screening in mine. I've heard you can add an outside layer of mouse mesh to prevent predators from getting in (I've also heard about predator birds dive bombing in in Australia) and yours getting out. Planning on supervising but would likely still come and go a bit. It has 1/4in spacing so should be good for smaller birds as well (I have Lovebirds, Parrotlets and Gold Capped Conures). It's galvanized though so may be best outside the screening. What sort of screen did you use? Aluminium, Fibreglass or Pet Mesh?
In the UK, the law has gone nuts regarding keeping ANY bird in an aviarty. Its a small holding law that came into effect for any outside birds (yes parrots fall under this). EVERY bird has to be registered if its in an aviary or a bird kept in doors but taken out. Its a well intentioned law to stop aviarian diseases BUT if people dont register birds there is a $2000 fine !
I have a parrotlet that barbers her feathers. She has some bare skin on her shoulders, so I worry that being outdoors in direct light will burn her skin, which is probably not designed to protect and heal any UV damage. Is it safe for her to be out in the sun at all? I usually bring her out in the travel carrier when it's warm in the summer (we live in Massachusetts), and have her in the sun briefly, then put her in the shade. I figure the benefit of sunlight is worth the risk. Anyone have suggestions or experience with this?
I just have a budgie I would love for him to be able to be out side all day when it's warm enough. But we have outdoor cats and I'm not sure how to make it so they can't hurt him or scare him half out of his wits. Anyone have any advice or situations like this.

I would love to see some viewer submitted photos of outdoor aviary ideas….especially for tiny birds!

I wish I could do this for my birds. But I don't have birds lol.

When our hot tub dies, I have a concrete pad with electrical for an aviary!! Woohoo!

In Australia we don't have to worry about burrowing predators, just snakes and birds of prey.
What about foxes? We have them on MNC NSW Aust. They burrowed under a friend's chicken run.
I use pet screening for my birds, dogs can cratch at it and it doesn't rip
Where do you get your aviarys? I would love to put one up at my house.

I did a cage within a cage for African grey. Cats are a big problem and rats. Cage within a cage gives her a place to hide.
I put my cage on artificial turf. My main concern is cats and rats from south florida.
