    If you found this video helpfull and it saved you spending a lot of money at a main dealer or garage then I would be really grateful if you could drop me a wee donation using the super thanks button and help me make more of these videos. Thank you all, Dave.

    Watching videos from people in other parts of the world gives me new appreciation for working on cars in California-NO RUST!!!

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  5 років тому +2

      Tell me about it. I have imported over 40 VW's over the years from California and the lack of rust is a huge bonus. One thing we dont have to worry about so much is dried out seals and rotted out upholstery so its swings and roundabouts.

    Great vid- straight to the point! Just wondered though, why do you need to mark it with chalk? It looked like it went back on in exactly the same place?

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  2 роки тому

      The top bold adjusts the camper of the wheel so marking it means you can get it back to roughly the same position. I still advise getting a wheel alignment after any suspension work.

      Sorry, forgot to reply to this. I borrowed mine from a mechanic friend but Im sure they are readily available online or at tool stores. Much better than the threaded rods of death.

    How do you know if it is indeed the coil spring or the strut at fault, my drivers side front suspsnsion is bottoming out is what it seens like if I hit a bump with decent speed, the drivers side wheel to arch gap is also smaller = sits lower on one side, would this suggests that the strut or call spring needs to be replaced ?

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  3 роки тому

      If it sits lower on one side it is the coils spring at fault, either broken or mismatched to the other side. The strut does not hold the car up, it only dampens shock. Check if the end of the spring has broken off, check the condition of the spring cups and shock towers incase rust is causing the spring to break through.

    Great video.
    Just out of interest why didn't you change the shock at the same time? I know it looks ok , but even so.
    I take it that you did the other side at the same time?

      It was a "get through the MOT" job as I have plans for the front suspension in the future.

    What's that set called to make the spring compressed

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  7 років тому +1

      I dont think it has a brand name. There are plenty available new on ebay for around £60 if you search for spring compressor kits.

    Is that a Lesjorfors spring? What made you go for that brand? Curious as I need to do mine soon and don't know what ot fit. I want to keep the car as standard as possible

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  6 років тому +1

      It is a Lesjorfors spring and to be honest I bought it on the basis of that was what the motor factor stocked. I needed it re-mot'd so bought the first name brand spring I could get hold of.

      I used the same brand when I did the suspension all the way around on my wife's Mercedes. They fit and worked well.

    10 minutes you say hmmm let's see about that

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  5 років тому +3

      I thought the description makes it pretty obvious that the process quite clearly takes longer than 10 minutes but the process is compressed into a 10 minute video. Sorry if you got confused.
