Hello everyone! I hope you enjoy the video. I’ve been getting a lot of messages of people who didn’t see my videos in their feed. Make sure to click on the little bell icon if you don’t want that problem 🙂Cheers!
Remove the helper springs it will give you a comfortable ride I promise
Van waar bent gij feitelijk?
Notes for next trip to Belgium: buy chocolate, visit Memphis :)
@Cristian Enea well, as it is a joke i don’t know. And as a matter or fact, Belgium is way more than chocolate.
I like the Dutch speaking part of Belgium more - just beware the driving in Brussels is appalling. People will literally cut across 5-6 lanes of motorway traffic without looking. I visited a fair few of the battlefields in places like Flanders. I visited Mons. I visited the Lions mound where the battle of Waterloo was. Parts of Brussels are a little "grubby" but some of it is quite nice like the golden square.
@@zoidberg444 true story, driving in brux is scary 😂
Hahahahahahahaha love it!!
When you went for your drive and you looked at the camera and said ‘Nice’ I was thinking exactly the same 🤣
Memphis: probably the coolest guy in the world. Always makes everything look so easy. When I changed my coil-overs there was lots of swearing and not an insignificant amount of bleeding 😎
But in the end it was worth it, right? :D
Although late, some clarification about the ST suspension being similar to KW: ST suspensions was established by KW as its “cheaper” sister brand, but there is no difference between them on the inside. The only real difference is the surface finish. KW uses more expensive finishes, but as far as longevity of the finishes is concerned, both should outlast the internals by some time.
Brilliant! I also decided to put ST suspension with black springs on my Mk2 during my 1.8T swap! Looks amazing
The new higher ride height looks better anyway! Equal gap between the tire and the wheel arch makes it look more refined and correct.
Very nice Video and work . Happy for you that you like the ride and looking forward to the next video!! Keep on doing this!!!
Very impressive work on your Golf Mark 1. Brilliant cars, class styling. I learnt to drive in one 40 years ago! Your videos are getting better all the time. Thank you :-)
South African tip 🇿🇦
Remove the helper springs
It makes the ride softer
And give more drop, when remove helper springs.
I had a 1984 VW Golf (Rabbit in the US). I wish I still had it to play with!
You know mate if you want to reduce the cabin noise a bit you could add some of that butile sound deadening. My current daily driver even doing a few small bits like the rear wheel arches, spare tyre well and the doors and stuffed some foam in a few other spaces between panels and inside the metal structure and a bit of the roof cut down on a lot of road noise. It's a much nicer drive now.
Yes, very good video.
I had V-Max coilovers on my B5 Audi and had them till they died. Then about 2 years ago I put on ST's and they are great. I think you will like them much more.
Thanks for taking us on this ride with you. 👍🏾
Keep up the good work.
i have been binge watching your videos the past few days and I've learned so much. I'm really glad i found your channel!
14:30 Very nice poster you have in the background ! hahaha :D
If you can take your hands off the wheel while driving thats a damn good alignment. Very impressive sir.😀
Great explanation on the issue at hand with the damper travel and preloading of the spring on the V-maxx set. Basically you’re “topping out” instead of bottoming out during your driving. When designing the suspension setup for a car, often the ratio between bump and rebound travel is quite a key parameter. In short; your thinking is right ;)
I was a fairly good mechanic in my younger days. But you take our talent to a new level. Bravo young man, great video and even better work. RickGTI…..
I have a Vauxhall corsa d sricdti 1.7 turbo diesel 130bhp 220nmt in the UK 🇬🇧 out in the countryside and love it road the roads near me i am 62 but do still love driving like your videos keep up the good work 💪 👏 🙌 👍
Nice legs @9:50 :D. Great video, Memphis!
I like my car, know how to fill it with gas and I'm good driving it. That's all I know, but still it's so nice to follow someone who knows "a bit" more about cars :D Nice video again, thanks!!
Damn, your toe alignment tool is pretty clever 👌 I remember doing the alignment on my car after changing the steering ball joint with just a tape measure, it was kinda awkward and only gave me an okay result... In the end I had an alignment made in a shop, it was only 25 bucks 😅
Nice video, you can get rear axle caps to fill the large open holes in your nicely refurbed rear axle. Got mine here in the Uk off ebay
Nice swap! You make it look easy. Must be all the maintenance you do on your cars. Top tip for next time and normal convention would be for bolts to be installed fore to aft, that way if the nut comes undone the bolt is not going to fall out so easily. Cheers for the great videos.
So happy for you and for how the Golf turned out, can't wait to see the 2.0 swap. Keep up the great work!
Stoked to see the swap!!
@12:47 after modifying suspension and dropping the car on it's tires it's good idea to 'jump' on it a few times to make it adjust itself
Greetings from South Carolina! Just recently discovered your channel, absolutely love watching your videos! Keep up the great work!! Your content definitely gives me inspiration to work on both of my mk1’s!
the best and the most helpful man, POST MORE VIDEOS BRO I LOVE ALL YOUR WORK RESPECT FROM KOSOVA ALBANIA
Any update on the garage building 😁
Simple suggestion : open a door between the old and the new one through the place when the windows are to have extra more indoor space
Also a complete renovation of your skid loader it deserve it
Yo yo from South Africa keep up with the good videos
The screw in the spring seat is meant to be tightend by the same tool used for adjusting the damper. Because it is small you are not going to strip out the threads in the springseat
Have heard that you shouldn't use impact gun on the top damper nuts. The rapid spin could damage inner seals 🤷♂️ Just a thought
that reminds me when i did alighment on my 205 by eye, and got it perfect :D
I was thinking their tools must been broken but wheel is pointing straight and i have no uneven wear on tires after almost 10k km
really enjoying your videos...just relaxing to watch
Grand job that lift was so worth installing
Loving the varied content Memphis when you doing the engine swap on the golf 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
Helpful and I hope shall guide to change my shock absorbers for vw golf 3 1.9 tdi.
Another enjoyable and interesting video as usual, Thanks. Hope u have a ncie day.
Such a nice Mk1 deserves a ST coilover set!, no comparison to your previous set in quality.
Maybe better if you do a professionel allignment still although the basics are ok.
Ben benieuwd naar je 2.0 swap!
if you ever have to do an allignment on your A6. Trust me on this one. get someone else to do it.
I recently did it because i replaced the Lower front controll arm on the right side.
Tierods on multilink suspension are up top, instead of at the bottom.
And because My A6 is lowered it made it super difficult to adjust.
small tip, remove the wheel before loosening the jam-nut.
KW uses the same screw to hold down the coil overs and had no issues so far and they have been on my car for a year
St is a very good suspension you will notice, driving them too on my mk2
Awesome to watch, keep doing great content!
Don't forget to replace the transmission boot on the right side where you adjusted your alignment 👌
That adjustment collar is for preloading the spring, although it can effect ride height the design is to adjust static sag. Basically altering the stiffness of the spring.
Totally agree. See it all the time in the motorbike world. Everyone adjusts spring preload to change ride height when carrying pillion. All it does is increase preload so that static sag is correct but as soon as spring is past the preload you have the same weak spring rate that you had before.
In this instance he has likely been increasing pre load which makes it sit higher when not moving.
Straight pipe 4sure!
AMAZINGNES!!!
Good evening from south Africa. Enjoy your video's. Andre
Love that golf
Awesome another golf Video! I was really looking forward to it so you’re getting the like in advance! :)
Nice video mate from the uk. I’m wondering what wheels you have as they would suit my 6n2 nicely and as well what tyres do you have I can see they are toyo but what model?
They are 15 inch BWA Wheels with toyo proxes tr1’s
wanneer workshop video?
Binnenkort
I’m finally here early 😭 This is gonna be awesome
2nd, because there is no 240 in title... :(
Firsttt
De badge it pal. It’s a golf not a rabbit 🤣 loving your work doe 👍
can you do a video on what mods are legal and illigal in belgium?
None are legal haha, he's not even allowed to daily drive this car to school or work. I drove to work once with my classic beetle and police stopped me, they investigated if i was allowed to drive and what i was up to. Used the anpr camera's and treated me as a criminal and they took my license plates and my cirtificate. It was a fully stock, original vw beetle. So no tuning, no big noises of any of those things. So i can say to you. In belgium nothing is allowed. Only sitting on a chair, work andpay your taxes.
@@daalhoffarm but why its illegal to dayli drive a classic car in belgium? In Germany you could get a cheaper inchurance, when you get a special inchurance for classic cars. In this case you must have an second car for dayli use. Also your max. kilometers per year are lower for the classic car. But if you order a normal inchurance for your classic car you could drive it like every other car.
@@tobiasteuber2044 all is the same in Belgium except your not allowed to do commercial trips with you classic licensed car. So not going to work and school, weddings or commercial for tv, or other profitable income drives are forbidden. If he licensed his golf like a '' car for daily use'' he can do daily it. But then not even other size rims and tyres are allowed. Its just a crime to drive in Belgium, the laws are unfinished and the police takes every word seriously.
@@daalhoffarm what? In Belgium its just allowed to modify classic cars but no "normal" cars for dayli use? Thats helarious.
I thought the laws in Germany are strict in relation to tuning but that is just silly.
@@tobiasteuber2044 you can modify every car, up and till you have a tuv (gocar) certificate. Classic cars can have small changes like tyre size, fiber hood, lowered until 14cm i belive. But still very strict. There must be a European law to set things straight. For example in the Netherlands almost everything is allowed, even driving a tube frame vw sandrail buggy, lowered, narrowed, highly modified.
As always .. awesome and informative video
Succes!
the problem you describe when coilovers get stiffer the higher you go and softer the lower you go has to do with something called 'spring preload'. basically as you make your car higher you compress spring more tightly and it becomes harder and shorter, more expensive coilovers have separate height adjustment just on the bottom so you can set spring preload and ride height independent from each other, see for example 'bc coilover br series'. your new ones unfortunately do not have this function
Hello! In normal circumstances the preload shouldn’t change as the damper should move up with the spring. The issue i have is that my damper is topped out.
You got it all wrong Memphis.
Your coilovers have only spring preload setting which only changes shock stiffness. As the spring becomes stiffer the car is not compressing as much and it sits "higher" but it's stiffer as you tighten the spring
Bc has spring preload as one variable and ride hight adjustment which makes the shock longer which makes the car sit higher and not affecting spring hardness
Looking at the thumbnail scrolling through videos I thought it was a VW Gol XD
Nice Golf.
Love the Channel! I live In Memphis tn and have a golf
You mensioned buying an extra golf 1! This time a convertible golf 1? Great Channel!
Loved this video also ... keep ‘m coming 👍👍👏🏻👏🏻😀
You need to cover this grab screw and ring in antisize from loctite. Otherwise aluminium will oxidise and you will have problems.
Have the same locking screw on my ap coilovers but they can handle quite alot of force, they look fragile but are quite strong ;)
Greetings from Finland. I like your videos.
Hi memphis I got a few questions
1 is what ride height did you add? On the new coilovers and
2 does the camber not damage or wear your tire out quicker?
3 does all coil overs have the soft/hard settings
4 South Africa doesn’t allow stance anymore so if our cars a low we get pulled over so is there a top adjustment as I prefer the less attention
5 the 2.0 8v set up
5.a isnt injection better and 16valve?
5.b what 2.0 is it?
I’m not so glued up with cars so these lessons would help
I had a golf 1 citi 1.4i with mp9 set up nippy little girl
Currently driving a polo 6r 1.4i but it’s slow any tips to give it more power without engine swop?
Very nice job and video:) Greetings from Bulgaria:)
nice video, love the rabbit badge
damn, sounds much better than that Volvo diesel
Amazing vids man, keep it up.
sound deadening the car will literally transform the way the car feels. Might be a good video, too.
eyeing these for my mk2, how are they after a few years?
Best of YT!!!!
Thanks for an interesting video, great English to.
Dude where are you from I really love your little golf been following along ,oh and I really like the building style with the wood and what not
I'm loving your videos! its a shame you only upload once a month :(
Top werk!
nice job u make it look easy and love hoe the car sounds when u shift good job cant wait for the next one be safe
Ground clearance under my E36 is about height of matchbox and i am not scrathing or smth daily driven also for 3yrs now~
than don't visit belgium my friend :D here you will destroy you underbody xD
@@Na_Ranjo i live in Poland , most roads are almost bad condition like in Ukraine/Russia. So really u just need how to drive second time with coilovers and dont go in any holes xD
I Love this channel soo much
Nu nog een ronkende uitlaat 💪 coole video
Hi. How do you rate the comfort? Is it more comfortable than your previous set?
do you have an link for this special tool for tighten the bold on the front ?? I neeeed this !!
oo awsome suspention i run the same on my mini r56 ( also from belgium 😁)
Nice video. im thinking of buying these to my car. could i not just buy brand new top mounts since mine are 12 years old? and just bolt on new top mounts and straight in the car afterwards. 'Thank you
Do you have a link? It is not available in Turkey. Coilover
the fact that u put some music in the background is very good ! it like improve the video!!
Hello from Brazil!! Nice video
You know yer stuff young fellow big thumbs up :-)
i would suspect the compressing of the spring to raise the car is tightening the spring up (making it harder)
the new coilovers will have the same issue. these types are only adjustable via the preload on the spring. there are coilovers where you can adjust the ridehight without messing with the springrate.
How can you change the springrate if it is a linear spring?
@@memphis5220
ua-cam.com/video/Ex53UQ3Ev5s/v-deo.html
Here you see a partially threaded (like yours) and fully threaded, the fully threaded move the shock body up and down without adjusting preload, the partially threaded cant be adjusted without adjusting preload
Great vid though, i enjoy the builds
Was the name for the golf Rabbit in belgium or is that just decal tuning?
