I really don't know for this one. The original Sonic Board game has an amazing board, But then you have the IDW and Shinobi7 games which have the playing pieces. Not to mention the original Sonic Monopoly which has some cool Sonic features. Really hard to say which one nails the theming Vs fun factor.
Wasn't fond of the stock art when I saw it revealed, but seeing it here changed my mind. Endeared me to it. I do wonder how did they design a very simple (Too much even) game and yet have unclear instructions. I'll pin it on lack of time, that's the usual explanation with anything Sonic. Also, am I the only one who can't stop thinking of Sonic Shuffle when seeing it, including the box?
that's because that's the spiritual sequence of it, just missing a board. Jokes aside, it's not just you, I played a lot of Sonic Shuffle in my cousin's old DreamCast, haha!
My read of the invincibility is that it lets you change your action card after the reveal; meaning if you opted to retire, you can choose to continue instead after seeing what turned up, or swap to retire if you had chosen to continue and an enemy turned up. Take-backsies on your action choice.
Not really. The description implies that you can only use it right after the Keep Racing/Retire reveal, not when a stage card is revealed. So it's used when you mispredict an opponent's choice then.
I think I might have an answer to 7:40 ish When the player reveals the keep playing card but orbot shows up for the 2nd time the chao allows you to change it to retire Just a theory
Cheese is for changing your choice after seeing the other players' choices, not after seeing the next stage card. Cream already covers the "repeat enemy" situation, and Charmy already lets you look ahead.
They probably had no idea how to play balance character abilities while also keeping the game decently simple. Besides, players can easily make up their own house rules.
7:30 I think you misunderstood the Chao card. I think the Chao card is supposed to save you like incase you pulled to enemy cards and you decided you wanted to play you character card it let's you change your card to the other option. Also you forgot to explain those other little character card things but I think I know what they are supposed to do based off of your explanation.
The Cheese card isn't for taking back your choice in response to the next stage card, but in response to your opponent's choices. The description says "… after all _character_ cards have been revealed.". Stage cards aren't character cards.
I guess Invincibility simply makes you change your mind about proceeding or retiring after having revealed the players cards The wording is a bit off but it means "Change this player's [chosen character card option] after character cards are revealed" This means that if you chose to retreat you can change idea and continue. It's unclear by your explanation if the special cards need to be acrivated immediately, but in case not you can play safe chosing to advance until an enemy is revealed and change your idea and spend the invincibility to retreat or retreat, look if the opponent has retreated and chose to continue to be sure to get a card more than theirs. Even if the effect needs to be fired immediately, it gives some strategic thought based on your initial decision: basically that will be a free turn you in which you can chose to proceed with all the information clearly revealed (including opponents' decisions)
Also, the fact that the characters have no special powers is simply to not overcomplicate things: they are basically different colors to indicate the players, that's all This is a completely abstract game with the Sonic branding slapped on top of it: having character powers would have required extra balancing and would have lead to potential unequal conditions :) This is a pretty standard, pretty streamlined push-your-luck game with no extra frills but the special cards
Basically, yes, you can only use the Cheese card right after a continue/retire reveal. Really the only unclear rule, and only because it was badly worded.
Wow this is awsome love the look of the character cards mainly the ones with sonic knuckles blaze tails and shadow love how even the background of said cards color's are repsentive of each characters color scheme
*Badnik Mechanic* the Invincibility power-up seems to suggest a player would be able to change their mind between Pushing Forward or Retiring _after_ a stage card is revealed.
It's after the _character_ cards are revealed-the ones that make the continue/retire choices. Not after the next stage card. Charmy already gives you a heads up on what that is.
I don't understand how a player gets a special card. What if all players are still in the game when a special card is played? are they all effected by it? I'm confused
Nice review Badnik Mechanic! I liked your ideas for house rules, that's the kind of stuff I like to do when a game I have doesn't feel up to snuff. Ambiguous rules are unfortunately a common malady of Sonic tabletop games. That said, I made a game that might be up your alley? It pairs nicely with the figurines and tokens from Battle Racers 😉
Thanks for the review! You conclusion was about what I expected looking at it, but it sounds like it's more fun than I thought. I'll be picking it up :)
I think the Cheese card is supposed to change your choice from Keep Racing to Retire or vice versa after everyone reveals their choice. Like, if someone retires to get a pile of rings and/or other bonus cards and you chose to continue, you can switch to retiring to force them to share the rings with you or screw them out of the bonus cards. Or if you think your opponent will retire early in a round for quick points and so you retire as well to deny them even that, but they instead end up pushing ahead, you can postpone retirement to chase them. That's really the only "unclear" bit.
i think the invincibility means you can decide to retire or race after the the card is revealed so if you chose race and the card is revealed to be an eggman but theres already another eggman you can use the invincibility to change it out to a retire instead, thats my interpretation of it
I'm still sat at that table... waiting...
UK English is something else.. 😂
I would have joined if i have a Visa to come
Dude, where was my invite? 😁
The Sonic Card Game play like Sonic Shuffle 💙💙💙 and 😍😍😍
I saw this game online
This is gonna sound kinda somewhat mean. But dam you have lost a lot of weight and you look great!
Lol no it's not mean.
And yeah I have lost loads actually. Lots of working out and eating right certainly does make the weight go down.
@@BadnikMechanic you look amazing dude..congrats. I just didn't wanna offend you
Honestly? Might as well just play Exploding Kittens instead if you want a tense game like this.
But this has Sonic lol
lol.
gaijin goomba, what are you doing here
Kinda curious, what do you think is the best sonic board games or card game?

My mum called me downstairs the other day to announce this card game to me. I have no idea why, but it was weird and funny to me.
Holy shit I had no idea that sonic was a video game franchise (I’m kidding)
I think I might have an answer to 7:40 ish

Just a theory
Not a bad suggestion!
Thats what i thought too
I don't think so, since it says to pick up your continue after resolving it. Only retire stays out
Cheese is for changing your choice after seeing the other players' choices, not after seeing the next stage card. Cream already covers the "repeat enemy" situation, and Charmy already lets you look ahead.
2:40 I felt this
Me too.
I can see myself getting this looks way past cool
happy fourth of July get ready for the fireworks at any second now. BYE^_^!?
7:21
Easily the best point made in the entire video.
Great review overall btw.

I like how the game in the description is listed as Sonic 1
I assume that the invincibly card means you can select a card from the deck?
You can play as Sonic and tails in the new super monkey Ball game?
*Badnik Mechanic* the Invincibility power-up seems to suggest a player would be able to change their mind between Pushing Forward or Retiring _after_ a stage card is revealed.

I love the Amy Rose card 💘💘💘 😍😍😍 and 🌹🌹🌹
The invincibility card likely lets you switch to your "Retire" card (or vice verse) after everyone has revealed their cards.
Eggman and Metal Sonic show up
Sonic: "Let's show them the real power of teamwo-!"
Two Orbots show up
Sonic: (Dies instantly)
Great review. But expensive though? 18 quid for a lock of cards?
The Invincibility card lets you change wether or not you want to continue or retire after the card is shown
I don't understand how a player gets a special card. What if all players are still in the game when a special card is played? are they all effected by it? I'm confused
Sonic is a game?
Yes!
quite interesting
Idea for the invincibility card it can do ...
Give an extra life.
Remove an enemy card.
And take a peack at the next card
This game is finally releasing to the public?
It's been out for over two years.
Have not been able to find the steamforged listing on their site
In fact zero store listings anywhere on this game exist
Cool!
Silver is drowning in the background.
I WANT IT NOWWWWW
cool
Please buy a pack of card sleeves for that deck. It hurts my soul seeing you treat those cards so roughly.
They have Blaze the cat but not Big the cat!

The invincibility card is probably for if you get it another player can change your character.... I think
Draw to of same enemy cards then the game is over that’s short and very cruel
Early gang where you at
👇

Pretty sure the Chao card means you may change your choice of continue or retire.
O mu
Just wanted to say that your content is great! Keep it up!
Can you upload a video of just the full gameplay without commentary? Want to see it really in action
Sorry but that would have to be a commission video at the moment.
I thought those aren’t out yet! Cool!
Where's silver!?
The card game is garbage, so who cares.
0:35 have you lost weight?
Hi
First one to comment
Garbage card game, they left all the important Sonic characters out.
