    You are absolutely right, whoever invented this system made the worst invention of his life.

    I am a 68 year old gal that still loves to mow her own lawn! Our gas can had seen better days so we went and bought one of these new ones! Well, I have never struggled so much in my life! Took the joy right out of mowing! I will try this when hubby gets home! For now ended up using a funnel to get gas from the new safety can to the old reliable! Crazy...

    Thx! Your commentary is hilarious and expresses exactly the way I felt after running out of gas in my car and trying to use this. I ending up just parking my car for the night. Thx for the laugh and vid.

    I hate these new gas cans. I spill wayyyyy more gas than with the old style, especially with small tank yard tools.

    Thanks for this.
    Gas can safety rigs are right up there with flow restrictors in shower heads--typically made of brightly colored plastic so you know what to rip out.
    Dammit, I want things to wash my body, my clothes, and my dishes--not save the spotted whale darters.

    Thanks for your advice on this horribly designed safety cap. To start off my gas can was really safe as try what may I couldn't get it to pour. I finally worked it out with you tube help but it was still a struggle. During this I had total recall on words and phrases I learned in the Army. Thanks again for your help.

    I was inspired by your video on doing a modification that eliminates the need to push the green cover pad with the palm of your hand. I disassembled the green cap and removed the darker green lever as you did.
    Instead, however, I removed the main spring by cutting it with a pair of cutters at the third coin. Then I pulled the spring out by each end out with a pair of needle nose pliers.
    Then, I reassembled the dark green lock lever, with it's spring and the light green cap.
    Now, pushing down the dark green lever with your thumb unlocks the spout and allows the light green cover pad to be push down with just the thumb.
    Releasing the thumb pressure on the dark green lever causes to spout to close and the spout to lock.

      I can't imagine a worse design product than this thing not only is a tough to get the gas to come out but its almost impossible to not spill it at least when I fill up my blowe. Never my life if I wanted to return a gas can I think this one's going back to Walmart this is unbelievable really how bad this thing isr

    I got a few more of these cans on clearance from Walmart ($5 for 1 gallon and $8 for 2 gallon). After this mod, this is just as good, if not better, than the NO-Spill brand gas cans that are much more expensive. thank you again for this mod. I then put the key and pin back (leave out the spring) so it looks like unmod can but it takes no effort to push the key.

    I went out today to use the mower. I bought a Scepter 5 gal. can two weeks ago and filled it up. This morning was the first time I tried to use it. It took about 15 minutes to to fill my mower with this stupid nozzle just like yours. I will try your fix on my can. I just want to be able to fill my mower and go. I can't imagine using this to put gas into my car.

      It's not just the crap safety handle, but the spouts on the newer cans are so short that the safety gear keeps them from being able to fit into a vehicle. Filling my wife's Rav4 involves a funnel and holding the 5 gallon can chest high.

      A friend of mine made it easy -- order the old fashioned gas can spouts on Amazon that fit these new containers. Unscrew the spout that came with the container (and throw them away) and just screw on the replacement spout.

    What annoys me more about this gas can is the lid is the same color as the spout. And if you forget to take the lid off because you don't notice it and proceed to fill up the mower the spout will fill up instead. And when the lid comes off the gas comes rushing out and all over the mower where it has to sit until the gas evaporates. I fill the mower in the shed where there isn't that much light. I don't mind how the mechanism works but that cap needs to be green as well.

    • @billtheunjust
      @billtheunjust 2 роки тому

      Some paint or a paint marker would probably solve that too. I'm sure it will come off over time but hopefully last long enough to make it worthwhile.

  • @billtheunjust
    @billtheunjust 2 роки тому

    To get the bright green piece off there is a tab under the back that's visible and a tab under the front that you can only see when you look at the underside of the green cap. You can slide something under those tabs to make removing it a little smoother.
    To remove the black button part you have to depress the spring so that you can spread the white piece off of the tabs on the black button part. It felt like I needed 6 hands to do it. To reassemble you have to again depress the spring far enough so that the white part can open and go back over the black button part.
    To lighten the spring I think it is better to grind it down to achieve essentially a smaller guage wire rather than trim off rings.
    I really don't like this cans design. It works a little better with the safety removed and less tension on the spring, but I still like the auto close on my old can better. Sadly they don't make that kind anymore.

    You are right the federal government needs to shut this company down this is something that a child would design, I mean what's the matter with the United States you know once upon a time we built stuff that was of good quality and it works but this is ridiculous they need to quit letting there college graduates so called engineers to design their product
