  • The Louvre in Paris along with many other art museums are doing/have done studies into the length of time, attention is given to a work of art. Studies done, ranged between 8 and 18 seconds attention on each piece of art. I found this hilarious given the implication being that the viewing public are effectively complete morons!
At the same time a study came out on our attention span in general with the headline about people having less attention span than a goldfish - that is 8 seconds. I refuse to believe that humanity is destined as obsolete whilst we let the AI robots take over! so i went to meet people to give them only a 10 second exhibition - more than enough if we can only concentrate for 8 seconds! (still reading - how are you doing that????!!!!)
What about the vitality of the intangible? what about our vital human energy and consciousness? How does the slow art movement fit into this research!! I personally view art very slowly - not piece by piece but scour a gallery at an exhibition find the piece I am most pulled towards for whatever reason and sit in front of it for ages! That would ruin the stats!!
The reason that I went to the Royal Academy, London, White Cube, London and National Gallery, London is because as an artist of many years (over 30!!) I may never get to show in these places - it is so hard for an artist to ‘make it’. So I thought I I am just gonna show there! And thankfully no one stopped us and most of the viewers thought we were bona-fide part of the system - it was fun, guerrilla and Punk! Thank you to those institutions who could see me on CCTV and didn’t wrestle me out!
hope you enjoy this, just a 10 second exhibition!
