Bonjour Marie-Anne, Just came across your video. I am in my 60's and grew up in the 1960's in Sydney, Australia. I have tried explaining to my daughter the minimalist and timeless wardrobe we had back then. So beautiful and so fashionable. Nothing was mass-produced, mostly made in Australia or Europe by the fabulous designers both in Australia and Europe. I used to love Norma Tullo. Watching your video today has inspired me to return to that lovely way of dressing. My mother always taught me the beauty of a neckline, front or back, I still love the pencil skirt with a little detail (I haven't seen such a gorgeous ruffled one though but is a wonderful idea). Once again, thankyou. It's never too late to be inspired! Love and blessings
I'm also in my 60's and went to boarding school in Sydney! Never even went to DJ'S without gloves, court shoes and gloves! Never thongs😱. My daughter loves France chic style thankfully!💞💞
@@rubykeiss1540 No, younger people now can't believe how we "dressed up" to go shopping. But it wasn't about that. It was about presenting as clean, tidy and respectable when we went out in public. Because clothes did, and still do, as a first impression, represent much of who we are, it was so important to dress nicely. To be honest, I have a wardrobe full of nice clothes but I still have clothes which I call my "yucky olds" which are purely for big housecleaning days, messy gardening jobs and painting jobs. Life is much more casual today but that does not mean it is OK to dress shabbily. Where did you go to school? I went to Wenona but I was a day-girl.🌱🙏🌱
That was by far one of the best French style videos I have ever seen. So often people do not go into the details so that the most important parts are skipped. Everyone knows by now that a stripped Breton t-shirt is a staple but so many do not know how to pick an excellent one rather than just an ordinary one.
What I have noticed about all these pieces is that they are timeless. Each one has been in fashion over the course of my life and they remain stylish and versatile. Beautiful choices.
I have taken notes based on your videos with me when I shop. I went to an estate sale yesterday and found the most beautiful soft, gray tone, open front, cashmere cardigan with a single wooden button. I already made a pair of gray woolen slacks with side pockets. I spent a week tailoring the pattern so they fit me perfectly. Now I am shopping for black leather loafers and a simple blouse that I can add just a touch of detailing to it. I am having so much fun since I found you and your channel.
Well I'm not sure why this popped up in my feed but I'm a (straight) man who likes clothes and women and I enjoyed the video. I can see the classic style with the little touches that you have pointed out that French women wear but as a man I would say that it's more than the clothes but the actual way that a French woman can carry herself that is attractive. The je ne sais quoi is in the women themselves and the clothes only complement that. Very enjoyable video
Nothing wrong with watching this. My husband is very very straight, and would not watch this, but we, women, have no objection to men watching this (you probably watched a video that had to do with fashion... maybe men's fashion). Who knows why this popped up...
Merci beaucoup for your channel. I was pleased recently when a world traveler gentleman told me I looked very French. My ancestry on my mother’s side is Ferrée, Du Bois, and de la Rouchefoucauld. My French ancestors came to America as Huguenots fleeing persecution in the early 1700s. I very much admire the French je ne se quois and try to incorporate it into my style. Thanks for making it personal and accessible and helping us understand how the French have such elegánce.
So love this aspect of French Chic style. Worth being careful with details. I have v small petite frame but big bust and sloping shoulders so I look for details on sleeves, hems, waist. Avoid pockets and fuss around bust and neck. Learning so much every time. Thank you ❤
Thank you Marianne… I am buying some new basic pieces, first time since the pandemic. I have bought several classic pieces, and am scrutinizing my closet for the best keepers. Have also found an alterations shop…my favorite straight black skirt does not need to be given up after all. This has been fun,..with your inspiration,
I love what you're saying. It's funny because these details are what I am always looking for in clothing I pick up at thrift stores! I try to spend a small amount but yet get nice things with great workmanship.
I thought I had a lot of clothes. I have 12.5 feet of closet with a lot of hangers holding 2 items. On top over the hangers is a shelf holding 3 plastic bins holding winter items. Then I have a bureau. But, YOU, Marie-Anne I believe have more than me, and YOURS are well maintained, coordinates well together, and are carefully and intelligently purchased. I'm getting there. I have to thoughtfully sift through the closet. And I don't have to worry about winter clothes only about a few weeks of the year. But I do have to wear cardigans, blazers, long sleeves , capes and shawls because of excessive air cooling in Florida. Thank you for your advice. 😘 I feel I'm am wiser and better dressed. You are doing a great service to women who are willing to listen.
Love the way you explain the secret details and we can see your enthusiasm and passion in your eyes💓 since we were kids my mom told us exactly that kind of style Tipps - that’s why it’s lovely to hear them again after 30 years- thanks very much, greetings from Turkiye
Bonjour Marie-Anne!
Bonjour Marie-Ann, I discovered your videos / site a few days ago and I became addicted to them. Great style, advice, I could not agree more. I love this hairstyle and your rouje color.... even more than in the newer episodes, but you look chic no matter which episode I watch! Thank you!
Loved the vid .yes agree it is the discreet little extra additions that can make an item just that bit special ,thanks for the idear ,will def be mindful when next I go shopping .
My favourite store in Australia is Blue Illusion ( look it up) all their garments are styles as French Chic......giving much to charities from the purchases. Beautiful materials, styles and all the ‘little French details’ you are mentioning in this video.......I am trying my best
Those are beautiful looking pieces, so simple but special 😍 You have such impeccable taste 💖 The type of fabric of the blouse at 7:37 that has that lovely dotted stitching effect is called "plumetis". Sometimes it is also called "point d'esprit" but I believe plumetis is the most correct term.
Marie - Anne, I love your accent. Your clothes are beautiful, timeless classic pieces that you could have in your wardrobe for many years. I think it's worth investing a little more money into good fabrics and a piece that's a little different. As you would wear them time and time again. I love the black and white, and navy and white stripes and polka dots in your wardrobe, and accessories, just beautiful 😄
I love that you are giving us French lessons not just in style, but language! I took the Babble course for a trip to Paris, but they do not pronounce it to you with the way it is actually spoken.
Out of all your videos, I enjoyed this the most (and I have been thoroughly enjoying working my way through lots of them!). This is EXACTLY what I also look for in clothes. I really love subtle small details that make something unique and special. Loving all your stripes - I am also mad for stripes and never get sick of them. That beautiful blue striped lurex jumper reminds me of a really beautiful Maje jumper I’ve got. I mainly buy Australian brands of clothing but I do really love Sandro, Maje, Claudie Pierlot and Comptoir Des Cotonniers (last two not available in Australia so I only buy if on hols in Europe) and I once found a shop called Carol when I was on holiday in Corsica which I thought was gorgeous! The reason I like then is because the clothing has a twist which makes it interesting and special.
Yes, I too find things are in the little details that set it apart. I'm a newbie to your channel. I am loving the striped dress with the lower cut in the back. I am a big fan of these type of clothes. Maybe I have a wee bit of French in me. Thanks, I do have a wish to visit France at some point in my life. You are a Beautiful Soul. I love a nice pair of black pumps then you look at the back and there is a small bow which changes up the simple look. I am trying to change up my wardrobe. I have a high bedroom that was made into a huge closet. Whenever anyone comes I get teased. Due to I had to purchase around turn rack .ike they have in department stores as well as having the whole back wall rack about 20 feet long with more clothes than 1 women could ever wear unless she was a model. Or an entertainer. I just love clothes, shoes, Scarfs, I live in the US but I do not dress like an ordinary person. I inherited this love of clothes from my Beautiful Mother. She was always dressed to the nines and from her Nail polish to her shoes, earrings. She stood out. Everywhere she went. I miss her so very very much. I am thankful for her love and guidance thru out my life... Thanks, I love your video. Much love sent your way...
Thank you for this informative video. It helps me to be aware of the small differences that each garment has to enhance the look and make it unique and beautiful. Not ordinary but extraordinary! 🌟
Thank you, Marie-Anne. I must have some natural French style because I have the same type of clothing and ways of wearing them. Still, I do break a few of the French rules, sometimes stepping out of my comfort zone, just for the fun of it. I love your videos!
Marie- Anne has lovely taste and style in her wardrobe choices. She is a great one for details and quality and that's the secret to her style. I like the colours especially - subdued and never loud or garish with a minimum of patterns on the garment.
Hello Marie-Anne I just found your channel I am now a new subscriber after watching your video blog. I love to dress I always receive compliments on my clothing. I am going to be 68 soon & I see so many women my age dress inappropriate. I as well look at the detail of clothing. Thank you for being here for all of us .Have a lovely evening.
Hi Marie=Anne Here in the US women outside of big cities dress casual and relaxed . I admire women who put an effort into their style to add class. You make this look seem easy with your great tips and lovely videos. Every women should subscribe to your channel! Thank you, Anne
I loved this video! I have an eye for details and i always look for that in clothes, like one tiny button in a different coulour. You are so elegant and full of enthusiasm. I love how you carry yourself.
This has always been my principle in clothes, to keep it classic, simple not to busy. I have a few nautical, stripy tops and dresses always look cute. So true, they need to have a little extra detail or different sort of texture, just enough to catch the eye and see it for more than it is, as opposed it just being a navy cardigan :). I find the French female style as understated but stylish with a unique air about themselves.
*Marie-Anne Lecoeur:* Thank you Marie-Anne! I always knew French women were well-dressed, but I've never seen the type of clothes itemized before. Very interesting to know!
Very nice. Thanks. It gets so hot in Houston, Texas that we wear a lot of cotton. Not knits. Woven. It’s a little fattening looking but it sure feels good in the uncomfortable heat. I’ve noticed in Mexico and Hawaii there are a lot of cotton dresses with no waistline and here we call them shifts, dusters and mucus and they are so comfortable after work too with two large patch pockets. Sleeveless even better when it gets hot.
I felt a great affinity for you and other French women while watching this because this is what I automatically began doing as soon as I was able to start selecting my own clothing in my teens. This video felt very affirming to me. Merci beaucoup.
Thank you! Loved all the pieces, especially the white blouse. Very nice discussion of choosing simple pieces with a subtle detail that makes them special. New subscriber.
I wholeheartedly agree! I often try to choose clothing that has some little touch that makes it different or elevates it. Btw, the fabrication of the white blouse with the raised white dots is called, "Dotted Swiss."
Hi Marie-Anne. Thank you for this wonderful video. I find it very interesting that you favor basics that have little details that make them different and interesting, such as your jacket with leather trim or your pencil skirt with the ruffled hem. Those are certainly pretty clothes. But I choose to I go another way with my wardrobe. I purposely stick to the simplest, plainest basics I can find, ones that that lack such details. For example, I have a plain, unembellished black pencil skirt and a similarly plain black trouser, neither of which have any details that make them different or interesting. They are just good quality basics that fit me well. However, I bring interest to my outfits each day with my accessories and with unexpected, fresh pairings. By sticking to the plainest basics I can find, I can wear the same skirt or trouser day after day without drawing attention the fact that I am doing so. I simply change the accessories or add a jacket or gorgeous boots or a colorful handbag, and I can make very different outfits out of the same basic clothing. I suppose we each travel our own path to our personal style. But I find that clothing that is too memorable in my wardrobe gets the least wear. I don't want my friends, family, and colleagues to think, "Oh, she's wearing that again." I'd rather keep the basics basic and add the je ne sais quoi in other interesting ways.
Laura, my wardrobe is built much the same way - simple classic tops and bottoms, with the punch in a collection of interesting jackets or vests, and a few handsome scarves, pins or pendants. I'll pay homage to my favorite jacket, a classic Levi-style cut in a khaki-brown Indian embroidered sheeting, from Chico's, which has been worn to death over the last fifteen years and finally laid to rest. It may serve as a pattern for a new incarnation.
Wow, your jacket sounds like a workhorse and very much loved. Please let me know when you find something new to fill that gap in your wardrobe. I"m curious to know how will you move forward after saying goodbye to such an old and dear friend. I had to lay to rest a perfect long single-button oatmeal-colored blazer that literally became threadbare from wear. That was more than two years ago and I haven't found anything even close take its place. I can't tell you how many times I've thought about it and missed it.
Thank you for this video. I’m living in a home with very little clothing storage space in Japan, so I’ve been looking into simplifying my wardrobe. But living in Japan, the variety of flashy clothes and simple clothes is a little overwhelming and I’m never sure what to look for. I think I’ll start looking for more basic items with a little flare next time I go clothes shopping. 👍
This video is so informative! I love special details when I see them, but while shopping, I think that I have tended to focus more on price rather than making sure that those items have special touches or an interesting detail of some kind. Thank you so much for giving me food for thought, as even the smallest of details DOES elevate the style of that garment!
Lovely video on the classic style and how to dress elegantly. I’m not sure all French women dress this way though, my French mother-in-law wears leopard, fringes and see-through blouses all the time 😂 her outfits are way more daring than mine!
Hi Marie- Anne, at7:43 of this video i watched a style that i was transforming my old top that was long but needed to expand at neck. Got a great idea to transform it in a new look by adding two little patches at the shoulders by cutting the long sleeves. Loved ur ideas and tips. Thank you so much.😘😘😍😍😍😍
I like to listen to your valuable fashion advice for women over 50. I am wondering whether you have any fashion advice for women over 50 who have small frame (petite) and short. I am looking for it. Thanks
I like how the pieces you show are basic pieces in style for many years, yet you show they are not plain based subtle details that people will notice almost on a subconscious level until they are even closer to you and appreciate that little something extra. I could take a basic black tank top and hand crochet a black lace border on the bottom with sparkle black thread with a pretty design and it would give it something special to the piece. I see. You look very chic, by the way.
Hello M. A. L. I discovered you not so long ago. Wish l had earlier. My life would have been simplyfied long time ago as l have learned so so much from your fashion channel. Anyway, it's never too late. My fashion thoughts so simple now. Thanks so much.
I love your dark blue double buttons rows in front & buttons on sleeves. It’s so different. Do you mind to let me know where you got that sweater? . I too love simple but stand out & unique item. Thank you for your clip.
Bonjour Marie-Anne. I enjoyed this video very much. I found it eye-opening as I had not realized how important little details can matter until I watched your video. Merci beaucoup for all of your wonderful tips.
Thank you for your delightful videos. I am so glad there is someone willing to teach about quality and taste in dressing. Some of the special details that make a garment stand out have been called "dressmaker details" in the US. An example would be top-stitching, or a box-stitch pleat on a skirt. They come from Haute couture, and most likely French Haute couture. Just as you say, French chic - is to have some of the special things that make an item unique and which you will not find in the throw-away clothes that is everywhere.
Think I am gonna get me the Burda 6580 pattern. It reminds me of what you explained. Something simple and basic, but with just a little detail. Love your advice, it is so helpful
For me, what stands out about this LADY is the quietness and grace of her voice and manner.
Gerri Stratton French woman are feminine and classy
agreed
MeiQui, GWA!!
A tip : you can watch series at Flixzone. I've been using it for watching loads of movies lately.
@Drake Brixton Definitely, I have been using Flixzone for since december myself :D
Classic is always stylish. I would rather buy one really special item than ten cheap trendy things. Great video.
No matter what country one lives in, women of taste do stay with the classics. Very nice video.
but the French do it better than anyone else!

*Marie-Anne Lecoeur:* Thank you Marie-Anne! I always knew French women were well-dressed, but I've never seen the type of clothes itemized before. Very interesting to know!
The details of the wardrobe are beautiful. Love it!
I just discovered your channel and I so glad I did! Great video! It’s all in the details! Wonderful pieces.
Very nice.

Great video, thank you, I always find it hard to find such lovely clothes, with this little extra something in Germany
french women are inspirational. They inspire women all over the world. New subscriber here :)
Great advice. Where can one buy the clothes shown? Thank you.
I only just discovered your channel and very happy I watched this video!! Wonderful tips to keep our wardrobe simple but elegant!
Love,Love that sleeveless blouse!!!
Un petit je ne sais quoi. J’adore. Merci
Love your style. So classic yet modern. Lovely. Thanks for sharing.
Merci Marie-Anne! Comme toujours, j'adore votre information!
I wholeheartedly agree! I often try to choose clothing that has some little touch that makes it different or elevates it. Btw, the fabrication of the white blouse with the raised white dots is called, "Dotted Swiss."
J'adore bien Marie-Anne!
Very gracious respondse.
loved it!! love what you are wearing!!!
This video is so informative! I love special details when I see them, but while shopping, I think that I have tended to focus more on price rather than making sure that those items have special touches or an interesting detail of some kind. Thank you so much for giving me food for thought, as even the smallest of details DOES elevate the style of that garment!
Great hairstyle Marianne. Suits you perfect. It makes you 10 years +younger. Very very fresh. Congrats.
🤗
Thank for the advice, so reassuring, will definitely revamp wardrobe with 'chic et unique' in mind.
Thank you so much.😘😘😍😍😍😍
How lovely you are & so informative, too. Merci, Marie-Anne!
Wenda Presley,you look gorgeous 🌹🌹🌺
I like to listen to your valuable fashion advice for women over 50. I am wondering whether you have any fashion advice for women over 50 who have small frame (petite) and short. I am looking for it. Thanks
I have done a number of videos for my Petite Ladies Ha 😃 I also have this www.marieannelecoeur.com/french-chic-petite.html
Wonderful video! Please do tell where you purchased the Breton dress?
I am doing that too!!!! Its to find something that will make the outfit more interesting and stylish.
Beautiful and so elegant 😊
Such a lovely video! You're such an elegant beautiful woman!
I love your dark blue double buttons rows in front & buttons on sleeves. It’s so different. Do you mind to let me know where you got that sweater? . I too love simple but stand out & unique item. Thank you for your clip.
Great video...loved all your understated fashion choices.
Bonjour Marie-Anne. I enjoyed this video very much. I found it eye-opening as I had not realized how important little details can matter until I watched your video. Merci beaucoup for all of your wonderful tips.
Yes 1:40 looks TAILORED, well made with liner up T shoulder/ back will keep wind 💨 away too ;)
Absolutely beautiful!
the top you are wearing with the wide neck is so elegant, just like you
I just found your channel too and just love the little details you were talking about. I will definitely look at the clothes I buy differently.
great tips! Merci!
