I finished my shirt dress with leather accents, made a wrap belt, wallet, and hat. Now I have a fun leisurewear project planned with a travel bag for the sewing expo in Florida. I also discuss why I went away for a bit. This video gets pretty personal.

Keeping you in my prayers and I am so grateful that you felt comfortable to share this. I suffered several losses last year that threw me into a horrible depression. I sought treatment through my primary doctor, found a wonderful therapist and psychiatrist, and after six months of treatment and medication, I am feeling more like myself again! I did not sew at all last year. This year I have completed three small projects as well as teaching sewing mastery guide classes at my local Bernina dealer. I have some work to do, but it's so great to be facing the sun instead of the shadow.
The right medical team makes such a big difference, right? I’m so glad that you are well on your way to happy and sewing stuff. How cool that your teaching others great sewing tips too! I’ll admit, I don’t use nearly all the fun features that my Bernina has. I have to get that together after I figure out how to thread my Jukis. 😂
I am so glad you listened to your body and addressed your Mental Health! Sewing is therapy for so many. THANK YOU for sharing.

Oh Mari! I am sorry to hear about what you've been through but so very glad you are getting help. This is something that needs to be discussed more and open about it. I have suffered from depression and have gotten some wonderful help from therapists. I pray you continue to heal and move forward with this❤❤

You are so fortunate that in the US help is readily acceptable for issues like depression and that you can easily access it. I cannot wait to see your bag! Depression is terrible. I too experienced this some years ago, got help and medication. I know the signs now and have not had experienced this since. We need a creative outlet. Keep sewing and positive thinking. 🥰

Oh Mari,how good is it to hear your story,I went through the exact same thing and had to take a month off from work and get professional help myself,thank God I shared my a few of my friends ,and they did exactly what you said,they called me and pushed me to move, I have suffered with anxiety, but this was different, I didn’t want to,move and the thoughts that going through your head,I didn’t want to do anything. Hearing you talk about it brought tears to my eyes to know this mental health is real! LETS GET BACK TO SEWING, by the way, I did push myself to do stuff while I was home and I completed all my dress girls dresses already. just waiting to get some labels for them. I had never heard of a peplum belt, that is so unique! So glad you addressed the depression. So many of us have suffered with this and as for myself, I knew I also needed professional help too. Thank God you and I are both in a positive place now!! Looking forward to the leisure wear!!!!

Depression is a horrible beast. I am so glad you recognized something was not right. I would add that sometimes you may not know someone has depression but if you see behavior changes counter to how they normally are reach out to them. And yes you may have to say "gurl or dude get up n wash your butt". Happy to see you are getting to the other side. Wishing you the best and look forward to hearing the details on the shirt dress.

Depression is such a horrible illness, it’s sucks every ounce of joy from life. So glad you’re on the mend Mari. I did notice that you hadn’t been on for a while but I find it difficult to know what to say to check in with people 💞💞💞

Such a cute dress! I personally despise belts because the buckles always poke me & they’re usually unflattering on me. That peplum belt is unique. Love the color. Definitely not for me because HIPS 😬 Would be really cute on someone with a long thin build.

I was having some physical health related depression that has kept me from sewing for over a year. I recently turned a corner on it and made some baby shower gifts. Such fun! 😍

😂😂😂"Buddy I'm filming and you're naked!" Girl you are one of the smartest people I know. When you see a problem, you attack it. Most people (myself included) would wallow in the wallowing. You dragged yourself up and started heading out of it. I admire that so much.

The shirtdress is amazing!! I don’t have a waist so I don’t usually like to wear belts, but when I do, I like to wear them on my upper hips so I like the ones you can angle down if you know what I mean. I’m so glad you are feeling better and more like yourself again. Depression is a beast. I have suffered with it my whole life and have been again lately. I feel like I’m missing from my own life. Mari you do such an amazing job with leather and your shirt dress and gorgeous! I feel what you're going through, I slip in and out of depression myself. I try my best to guard myself from negative people or comments, I even have to step back for watching UA-cam, as I don't always feel I can measure up. I am totally loving that dress with the splash of leather 👏🏻OMG where were you a few years ago when I was lost in the sauce making a leather vest for my brother?! 😳I could have used those tips 😂 ( I still consider myself a beginner sewist but, I was even newer then. I would never have tried working with leather but, my brother wouldn’t leave me alone about trying to repair his favorite vest. 😳 I repeatedly told him I didn’t know how to do it. Soooo… I went to Joanns and got all the materials 😤😂 it didn’t turn out too bad… except when it came to putting in the zipper 😂🫣🤦🏻♀️ thank God he doesn’t zip it 😂

Hi, Mari. Thank you for braving the channel again and for sharing a glimpse of your difficult struggle. It strikes me that even if we are doing what we enjoy, physical and emotional fatigue take a very large toll on us. Your September last year was amazing, but don't push yourself beyond what God enables you to do. You are precious, and not of more value just because you are pushing beyond your limits. I do speak from experience here; I am understanding something of where you are, but I know I don't have the full picture. You are gifted but not made supernatural.
Thanks so much for writing. The PDAG event wasn’t what did me in, I experienced something at work that sent me into a downward spiral. I’m very much looking forward to this upcoming September. It’s such a feel good.

Good for you seeking help for your depression. Been there, done that! I'm happy to say that I no longer have to take medication anymore. I feel so much better now without them. 😊 There isn't the stigma anymore about mental health issues and depression. I never hid my depression from anyone, never pretended I didn't have a problem. You take care of you and don't worry about your YT channel. Your subscribers are still here and happy when you post a video, regardless of how long it is between postings. You do you!!!

Belts! I can’t wear belts. I have no waist!!!! Literally no waist between my upper body and my lower body. I am the original Apple body shape.

The only kind of belts I can wear are contoured.
Oh, I don’t think I’ve ever had a contoured one, but it makes sense. Now I’ll have to take a look for one.
I think Project Dress A Girl, plus your channel, plus the leather shop on top of everyday life may have been too much and gave you burn out. Don't feel you need to make a weekly video, or always make something challenging and new. Be kind to yourself.
Thanks. Although I need to find balance when September comes around, what I experienced wasn’t burnout. I experienced something very specific at work that sent me down the rabbit hole and was hard to come back out of.
