Vivi is happy to see him but ends up breaking down and says that she feels like nobody can hear her and Luffy responds with "Don't worry, I can hear you." Fun fact: Almost all main antagonists in One Piece had their devil fruit reflect who they are
      Wapol is a very selfish and greedy King and so his fruit is literal gluttony in which it allows him to eat literally anything
      Crocodile is a merciless false King who single-handedly caused a civil war and enjoy it in the process and so his fruit allows him suck dry anything he touches
      Enel is a self-proclaimed God who ruled with absolute power in Skypiea and so his fruit is literally lightning, a symbolic power of a God
      Lucci and the rest of the CP9 went undercover as shipwrights in Water Seven in order to get intel on the whereabouts of Pluton without raising any suspicions for 5 years and so that's why his fruit is Leopard, an animal master at camouflaging.
      Moria, in his prime, fought Kaido of all people and lost all his crewmates in the process. With his mind and heart shattered, he got sent back to Paradise wherein he became obsessed with raising a zombie crew as he believes that with zombies, he will no longer have his crew killed. Moria spent the remainder of his pirate life on a desolate sea, on his enormous ship, just lazing around day in and day out- an existence completely opposite of his prime days. He literally became a SHADOW of his former self
      Hody Jones is a racist supremacist that has the hollow belief that humans are inferior to Fishmen and was later known that they are an empty vessel of Fishmen's hatred towards the humans and so that's why Hody Jones power does not come from him but from an external source in energy steroids.
      Doflamingo is the one behind the biggest underground dealings in the New World as well as having absolute control over the people of Dressrosa. He has the Yonko, Underworld dealers, and Celestial Dragons under his leash with his influence. That is why his fruit allows him to control people like a puppet
      Big Mom mothers 39 daughters and 46 sons for a total of 85 children so it should be fitting that her fruit allows her to literally give life
      Katakuri has a lot of similarities and polar opposites with Luffy, that is why Oda has them fight in a MIRROR DIMENSION. One of their similarities is that Katakuri's fruit is uncannily very similar to that of rubber.

      The best and most iconic melodies in history are composed of around 3 - 4 chords and the whole musical pieces are then constructed around this. This is what it takes to make something good. It has to be simple, in order to establish a pattern. After that, you can add more layers and make it more detailed.
      But if you don't have the consistent pattern at first, which is only achieved by simplicity, you won't get anything meaningful in the end. Listen to the song "Yiruma River Flows in You" a piano song written by a korean composer, that song is composed of 4 main chords.
      Alot of Beethoven and Bach classical pieces are composed of 3 chords. It's all about the consistent pattern.

He's usually a happy go lucky person because honestly that's when life is the most fun. But there are those moments where he reminds you that he is an actual pirate who is not chained to any moral code. He will quite literally do whatever he wants whenever he wants to, and that is honestly quite scary at times.

    >A fan asked Oda why Luffy doesn't kill his enemies, and Oda answered that it is not a question of morality so much as a matter of punishing the villains for their crimes - he feels that killing the villains lets them off too easily, whereas he considers letting them live to see their dreams ruined a far more fitting punishment.
    >A fan asked Oda why Luffy doesn't have a lot of thought bubbles, and Oda answered that when drawing Luffy, he trying to make him very simple and straightforward about what he wants to be and how he feels, which is why out of all the main characters, Luffy has the least number of thought bubbles, since he acts and says what he wants to do rather than think it.

      And wouldnt you know it it usually seems what he thinks he has to do to become the next pirate king isant being the strongest pirate like you would normally think no im sure he will be the strongest by the end of the series but he sees the pirate king as the person who has the most freedom so as he goes around beating people like do flamingo and the other celestial dragons who take away peoples freedom by keeping slives and just generally opressing people hes really just making sure they cant take away his own freedome while also freeing everyone else in the process

    The thing that I love about Luffy is that he’s never just a “hero” whenever he helps a island or town he always has someone he likes on that island or some goal there and that’s why he helps. More often than not he doesn’t help people cause he’s a “good person” it’s because he’s a “good friend”. If Vivi wasn’t from Alabasta I honestly don’t think he’d help.

    • @lucky_lulu317

      I really like how you put that! I think it just reinforces the scene where he talks about not wanting to be a hero. I like the point that you said how you don’t think Luffy would have saved Alabasta if it weren’t for being friends with Vivi. I always noticed how mostly all the arcs where the straw hats save a country, it’s more so done because of them helping a friend. And in terms of goals like with the Dressrosa and Wano Arc, they were there to stop the SMILES from being produced to then decrease Kaidos army from growing with the goal to take down Kaido. The two countries were saved because they were there already and Luffy met friends along the way like Rebecca and Tama.

    I think Luffy is all about freedom. To live your way, make your own choices, and to pursue your dreams, whatever that may be. He doesn't fight the bad guys because they are "evil", but because they are usually trying to control their corner of the world, and Luffy can't stomach that.

    Wow a manga newbie appreciates Luffy more than some weebs , some people even hate him which is mind boggling to me ,some say he's generic and simple which makes me question their intelligence ( I don't mean people who aren't caught up , we all viewed him as simple in the beginning ) , I mean sure he's very similar to Goku in some ways (which isn't an insult Goku is cool in his own way) , yes Luffy is a cheerful happy go lucky glutton , is what I thought at first but after reading/watching more that impression changed , he's not super deep or as complex as other fictional characters but he has more to offer than people give him credit for , he's a very fleshed out character with an interesting philosophy and which goes through subtle growth , plus he's the perfect protagonist for this specific story
    Can't wait for your next review , this upload made me very happy thank you

    Luffy fits the theme of a world so open connected by the vast sea so well. Freedom is really important for a story like One Piece, and the fact that Luffy will go to great extents to ensure the freedom for his crew and the freedom to follow his dream no matter what fit really well with setting of One Piece in my opinion.

    The reason why you can't figure him out is that Oda purposefully doesn't give him thought bubble. You see his character through his action. This is very strange to you since you a book reader who always able to read at length about how a person think.

    • @nefsartdigital9317
      @nefsartdigital9317 3 роки тому +2

      There are books out there that also don't show you characters thought process bro. Just their actions. That is not why this is strange to Merphy. It is an ok point to make nonetheless.

    • @josiahbaumgartner7643
      @josiahbaumgartner7643 3 роки тому +2

      You don't need to read Luffy's thought bubbles. (Though there have been a few occasions where they exist) Luffy never hides what he is thinking or feeling. He always says or does what is on his mind without filter. Always.

  • @Feferedon
    @Feferedon 3 роки тому +6

    Another thing that's amazing and unique about Luffy (especially in the medium of comics and manga) is that he doesn't have thought bubbles.
    Keep in mind that thought bubbles are actually whispering in One Piece and thoughts are presented by plane text on the panel.
    The author commented about this on one of his SBS segments:
    "For the readers, I wanted to make him a straight shooting kind of man, so I wrote him thinking like, "If he's thinking it, he'll say it" and "Action speaks louder than words". In the Sky Island arc, he dealt with the Montblanc Cricket situation by saying thing in his heart, but he's saying it with the same voice, so I decided that it was OK. From, here on, Luffy will act before he thinks!"

    "Luffy: Consequences? Never heard of her."
    Luffy is a character that doesn't care about consequences, he might know it's dangerous, risky, troublesome w/e. But if gods hurt his crew or got in a way of his dream he would punch them too without thinking of consequences for even a second.
