@@erdniealinik Hehe that’s sort of true now with the a13 ipad 9. That thing is powerful as heck. But the 12.9” Pro does feel sort of fancy with the crazy screen, 5 almost pro quality mics, 4 speakers, etc. It’s crazy nice
I’m surprised at how long the iPad mini lasted since it has the smallest battery. I was expecting 4-5 hours from it. I wasn’t expecting it to last longer than the iPad Pro 12.9” considering it has the biggest battery
I have the iPad 9 and I'm always impressed at how long the battery lasts. I played all day on Apple Arcade and averaged 13% per hour of battery life used. The first time, I was seriously mind-boggled at how amazing that was.
Good test mate ! If i remember correctly , the air 4 only has a 5000 Mah battery , about the size of a good smart phone battery , ( please correct me if i`m wrong ) , and given that it has a 10 ish inch screen , i think that is actually not too bad , my air 4 is about a year old and i use the hell out of it every day , although probably dont work it quite so hard , and i dont game on it , and my battery time would be similar or maybe a tad better i think , also i have mine sitting 98% of the time in the magic illuminated keyboard case with the 2nd gen pencil keeping charging on top. I`m actually pretty happy with mine , 5+ hours is decent imo , and as i said i usually do a bit better with my use , and it does seem to charge up at a reasonable speed . I am a bit surprised the big banger 12.9 inch did not go for a tad longer , maybe apple could in the next generation tablets sacrifice some of that slimness and bump the battery size up a tad , i certainly would not mind a tad more weight and being a tad chubbier to have more battery time ..
you have to remember the mini also has the newest soc which might help it out. the ipad 9 is pretty interesting but it's nice to see that they haven't crammed a tiny battery in there to save costs
I bought the Air 4 for student reasons and noticed it drains pretty quick using GoodNotes with full brightness. It does last a full school day of 8 hours on max brightness but I need to charge it after it. I was worried the one I got has a defect but I'm glad to see it's normal with the Air 4.
I bought the Air 4 since I won’t abuse the battery. I just bought it for better experience and to flex on my friends. I typically use it as a music player. I also don’t have any games on my boy.
Thanks for running this test; looks like lots of work! I tend to push my iPads historically to run maybe a half the advertised battery life, so glad to see that the 11”, the one I have, ended up doing pretty well. I was not surprised about the 12.9” model draining quicker than the 11”, because it really is going through a lot when used to the max. I had that model for about 2 weeks, so again not too surprised by good to see it being compared. Again, thanks!
I’ve had the iPad 9 for a while and not surprised this tablet performs surprisingly well with battery! I use it for uni almost every day and have to charge it once per 2 and a half days even with heavy usage
@@michashielamariepablo5615 I do that very rarely since the charger port and iPad itself gets very hot, and I always charge when it’s around 20 percent
Hey Mr. Geller, thanks so much for taking a break from paleontology to make this review for us. Really useful and I don’t see other reviewers addressing this.
@BenBenson I could point out that you didn't put the word 'literally' in quotes but that's just fucking stupid, it may be superfluous in Maggie's comment but I don't see any need to correct it unless you're an obsessive perfectionist which you aren't and even if you are, that's your problem.
Considering that the standard ipad is the same size as the air and 11 inch pro, but with a smaller display and weaker components, it makes sense that it lasts the longest
Newer chips are faster and more efficient, your logic does not go that way. For what you say and iPhone 11 should las longer than a 13 Pro… btw it’s not.
Just remember it has more performance therefore less battery. My iPad Air 4 lasts a while I use dark Mode which probably doesn’t do anything and very low brightness
I got an iPad 9 in January and Idk why UA-cam barely recommended this to me now but wow, I’m very impressed with how the 9’s battery stacked up in this test. From personal experience, my iPad 9 takes a long time before it gets anywhere near 10%, so I knew it was a good battery… I just didn’t know HOW good it really was. Wow.
My iPad air 4 is my first Apple device ever. I bought it brand new, a month ago. I use it for lots of UA-cam streaming, Twitter, Facebook, browsing and Netflix. I easily get between 8 - 10hrs screen on time.
@@unholyalmond Yeah value of basic ipad is great, iPad 8th gen starts my Apple ecosystem journey at begining of this year.. I switched to Macbook, iPhone and AW thanks to that basic iPad. Now I have iPadAir 4 and basic iPad does its duty for my wife.

I just updated from a 5th gen iPad to an 11 Pro. The three days of use had me questioning the decision as the battery seems to drain somewhat more quickly on the 11 Pro compared to the 5th gen. You proved my hunch right with this test, thank you for confirming my observations.
Watching this on my mini 6. I love that the iPad came out of the box with 97 percent. I’ve charged this thing twice since I’ve had it and I haven’t charged in like two weeks.
I have both the mini 6 and the M1 12.9, and i thought i was crazy because i always felt like the iPad mini 6 was longer lasting than my pro.. now I know i wasn’t crazy! I’m a bit disappointed by the pro, or amazed by the mini, depends on how you wanna see it!
I’m so glad to find out that my iPad I had just got has the best battery life. Literally everything about the iPad 9 so far is better then everything else (basic use wise) Im satisfied
i have the 12.9’ ipad pro and i’m honestly not surprised with how low it placed in this power test. i’ve never been a huge stickler about battery life though so i honestly think the display and performance are worth the trade off
the battery lasts all day just fine with light use for schoolwork and content browsing, where it starts to drain quicker is when i’m at home using it for hours with more demanding applications
Currently watching on my ipad 9. Glad I purchased this one for taking notes, saved me a lot of money. It literally lasts for a long time, no need to charge within a day. I even play genshin impact on my ipad with no problem. Also, I love the center stage feature too.
Just remember the iPad air’s battery would have degraded after a year of use and I’m pretty sure he dint buy a new one for this video plus the iPad 9 and mini are significantly new
I agree, approx how many load / unload cycles went the Air4 through? Don’t think it is a fair comparison with its new collegues from the Apple stable to be honest.
I'm pretty sure he only uses these iPads for these videos and not personal use, so I don't think the battery would have drained enough for it to make a real difference. He could have shown battery health though.
If the Air4 battery has degraded that much so quickly that would be a big reason not to buy one. Only Sagi can't speak to how much he has used the Air4, but with his plethora of tech gear I doubt his mid range tablet would be the one with heavy usage.
I use my iPad Air for daily tasks, watching UA-cam and gaming. It lasts me all day long. I took the iPad Air around 9am today. It’s 8pm and on 52% battery. I have no complains.
@@prilailiu @Bunnyboo3419 Do you think is a good idea to get it now in 2022? How much the battery longs actually? @@cristiancaballero5853 I personally think it's a great deal. I'm a casual user, not a tech person and it serves me well for all of my necessities. My sister just got the newest ipad air and tbh, there isn't much of a difference between her's a mine (for casual users at least). We both use mainly for study and it's honestly a great device.
considering that the ipad 9 has the cheapest hardware, lower power consumption, I had kind of expected for the ipad to have the best battery life. But still shocking considering the price.
i think if u really wanna be practical and u don't have a bigger budget, ipad 9 would be the best choice. I've been watching lots of ipad 9 vlogs while waiting for mine to arrive and im just so freaking excited!! (only gonna use it for school like reading & taking notes, do some art and surf the internet including streaming)
thank you I have made my decision of iPad I’m getting thank you update: when the iPad 9 came in at first I thought it died very fast but when I count the hours it lasted very long I’m impressed
Great test. A key question would be iPad charging times. Do the USB C iPads charge significantly faster than the Lightning port iPad 9? Really disappointed with the iPad Air 4 battery performance.
i was choosing between these 2 previously. the pro m1 model. and got the 12.9. it lasts me 1 day and i’m a bit disappointed. but i guess 1hr isn’t really that much a difference to the 11. how does your battery fair in a day?
such an insightful video, and yes the battery on my iPad Air 4 is 'slightly' disappointing but the results are so so different than what I had predicted as well!
I got the iPad 9 on sale as a pre-order from Walmart for college and omg I always start my day at 8am and study from 10am to 11pm (including classes) I only put this on charge once. Standby is even more amazing I love it. I use my iPad for school only! I use it for digital notes and making PowerPoints or quizlet and this iPad is an absolute beast!!!!
iPad mini 6 beats all of the Gaming phones..... I decided to get a new gaming phone... But now I'm having iPad mini 6 and really impressed cuz of its battery life with A15 Bionic.
@@westernsavage2313 it's actually the same battery life, ans the 13 used to last longer on release, but on ios16 it dropped its battery life and making it the same as 14
I’ll be honest. I’m very much surprised by the 12.9 pro model. I’m wondering if the extra feature like the Liquid Retina display may have contributed to it going so quickly. My thing is they should’ve considered a bigger battery since it’s the biggest iPad. I don’t regret purchasing it because I’m never going to us it for all that heavy testing but it’s really interesting how the 11” pro model outlasted.
Fun fact: the iPad 9 is actually the same model as the smaller iPad Pro from 2017. I bought my current iPad in 2018 and it’s great for reading sheet music, which is why I bought it. I guess I won’t be needing to upgrade my iPad for a little while. Plus, my mom’s looking for a tablet in general, so perhaps the iPad 9 is a great contender.
You do have to remember that the iPad Air 4 is from 2020 though - and besides, unless you got a new one for testing, you’ve weakened the battery. Still, this is a very nice iPad, one I have myself and really like, with plenty of battery left over.
It's just what i observed for the past 4 months using my iPad Air 4 and the iPad 9 my school gave me side by side (the Air to project GoodNotes to the beamer, the iPad 9 to take notes on my students). The iPad 9 always ended at about 50-60% at the end of the day, while my iPad Air 4 ended at about 20-30%, while being on for the same time. Sure AirPlay or using a HDMI-Adapter will drain the battery faster, but i always wondered if it would make that much of a difference.
it really depends on how you use it. I charge my ipad air once every 4 - 6 days with few hours of use everyday. i still have 30% - 40% battery left on a heavy day of use. This is a worst case scenario test. No one in the right mind is gonna set the brightness and speaker to 100% at all times and play games or do intensive tasks. the other channel also did battery life test and the mini 6 actually died first and ipad air outlasted by almost an hour and very close to the ipad pro battery life. It all depends on how you use it. Don't jump into conclusions.

The iPad 9 battery is really surprising, my iPad can last a couple days, even at times a week of normal use, (an hour-3 hours a day) and I am really glad I chose this one. Thank you for the video!
Your iPad is old and battery is drained of your old ipads, so the performance of the newer iPad 9 is evidently more if the air battery is already drained. 😊
Know this is 2 years old but I am on my 3rd iPad 9. Purchased it April 2022. I had Apple Care+. Had a software issue with the first one. They did a diagnostic and said the battery was bad. Apple gave me a new iPad 9 last March 2023. The battery was not right from the beginning. Battery was not lasting not much longer than 2 hours and when being charged, it would stop charging. Yesterday I got the third iPad 9. Really hope this one has more battery life similar to what is in the video. Also, I checked to see how much a trade in I could get. On the one I turned in yesterday, there was not any value but Apple did offer to recycle it for me. Thank you - this video gave me a good idea what I should expect.
I've just switch from an iPad 9 to an iPad Air 4 because of the display. And I immediately notice the battery life. I thought my Air 4 got a battery-drain problem because I compared it with the Gen9. Now I understand it's natural for an Air 4. Like in your video, At the time the Air 4 got to 15% (time for recharge), the iPad 9 is still at 40%. OMG that's massive difference. anw thanks for your vid, it's made my day. I dont have to worry about the Air4 battery problem anymore.
I have the 12.9 and it lasts about 10 hours. You set the brightness far too high which skewed the results in favour of the smaller screens with the larger bezels. Try again with the screen brightness lower and the order will change. Thanks for the test anyway
@@sunyi7313 I set my ipad pro 11 2020 brightness to the max almost always, it doesn’t last more than 6hrs and all I do is searching on web, watching youtube or tv series, sometimes a bit of clash royale. I just bought a magic keyboard and ig it will lower the battery life of at least 30 min, tbh 5/5:30 hrs aren’t bad, but since I’m currently using an iphone 13 pro max that lasts me always more than 8:30 hrs of screen on time even with an intense use, it is a bit annoying.
The battery of my 11’ iPad Pro keeps impressing me all the time I was watching UA-cam all day and got about 10 hours of watchtime until I reached the 20% mark and charged it
I’ve had the iPad 9 for about 2 months and the battery is insane, I use it a lot and I have to charge it every two days wow, I never would have expected this since I have to charge my iPhone two times a day….
I'm a little sad at this result as I choose to buy the Ipad Air 4 but then again I'm still happy with it. LOL It doesn't really drain too fast, the screen size is just perfect for me and I mostly just used it for reading & reviewing my modules anyway + watching youtube so the battery is good to me. 💖
I'm intending to buy an iPad Air in the beginning of 2022, so these videos are coming in very handy. I suppose that, when taking into account the lack of features of the entry iPad, buying an Air compensates the more than €200 that I'll have to pay surplus here in Spain. I'll comment more after watching your buying guide, which I'm convinced will be super useful too
Great video comparison. I was surprised the Air4 battery ran out first. I also believe the 12.9 Pro with the larger body probably should have a larger battery given its price. Never would have guessed the IPad9 would win this comparison. Impressive. For my use I will now consider buying the IPad 9. Thank you for sharing. I really enjoy and appreciate your channel.
I’m so glad this video was helpful. It’s by no means a scientific comparison - but I wanted to give people a useful overview. Thank you for being part of the channel! 🙏🏻
For everyone confused about how the 12.9 inch died quick compared to the others it is because of the big display and the cpu being more powerful and the 11 inch having a smaller display with less pixels to display it had better battery life and then the iPad 9 has a less power demanding cpu with a bigger battery making it the most efficient and the lower screen resolution
Love this video! I always enjoy watching the battery life tests. I recently purchased the iPad 9 over the Air 4, and am glad I did. Bought the Mini 5 last year, which was why I didn't go for the Mini 6. I always have a sweet spot for the Minis too (my first iPad was a Mini 2, and I still own it). :) Glad I bought the iPad 9 this time around, Thanks for the video, and the very enlightening (and entertaining) information!
I just bought the ipad air 4 and my sot is usually around 10 to 11 hours. And I don't continually use it. I play games but only 2 to 3 hours a day and then heavy media consumption next. This is still a great ipad 😊.
It really depends on coditions and exact usage. With light use and low brightnes I can easily go for 10hrs. I was watching TV stream for 6hrs and it ends with 75% battery usage. So ~8hrs at ~25% brightness and that streaming app from my cable operator seems little bit more hungry than HBO or Apple TV.
I was searching for these tipe of videos, just to know if i am sure i, wanted to buy the ipad 9 because 1- It was the cheapest and i am okay with the border line over it and finger print, i dont find that to distracting when i draw. 2- As i think we all saw that has the best battery life, i thought the Air 4 would be the best, but i guess i was wrong. Im getting it in like a few days and im glad i choose to buy it:)
What screen brightness level did you set for the test? Did you do all of the streaming through Safari or through dedicated applications? I am 99% certain that Apple rates battery life using only first party applications with all multimedia being run through safari and not individual applications. When streaming video through Hulu and UA-cam I am experiencing the same results that you are for battery life with the big iPad Pro which I still has a nearly perfect battery in it.
I made a mistake I think. I went after the air 4, but since Apple confirmed the air 5' release, I think I should have waited until march. And the only reason why the ipad 9 went 7H33M is because all the internals are garbage compared to the air 4 for example. So by buying the older air 4, you are sacrificing battery life for usage quality and experience which in my opinion is a win. But since the air 5 is coming out this year, I kind of regret my decision even though the air 4 is amazing by itself.
I got the 2020 M1 1 TB 16 gig ram 12.9” model. Bought the 1 TB on release date due to the ram that does absolutely nothing w software available🤦🏽♂️ looks like battery isn’t good either…. My iPad mini 6 was about where I thought it would be.
as for someone who has an ipad 9 64 gb version, genshin is definitely enough, maybe in the future it won't be since games are getting bigger and bigger, but for now, it's enough.
Awesome vid. I have an Air 4 and enjoy it but have been feeling the itch to upgrade to a 12.9 Pro sometime. I'll be patient and wait for the next generation whenever that is. Really hoping the Magic Keyboard gets a redesign sometime - I struggle justify that accessory without having a function row.
I think Ipad mini 6 is the best in my opinion the ipad mini 6 has the new stuff like the higher cost ipads like ipad air and ipad pro but has a better battery than th eipad air wich is actually amazing and it so small and cute like who wouldn't pick it and play games and watch youtube its so light
I have the MINI, THE 9, THE 4, THE AIR,AND THE 12.9 and I would agree with your results with the exception of the MINI. On a really good day I might get 6 hours, most days it is closer to 5. I upgraded from a previous generation of MINI where I was getting over 8 hours on a regular basis and am disappointed with the battery life. As I primarily use the MINI in my job and am constantly in different locations, I keep a charger cable in my car so I can get through the day. My uses are as follows, the AIR mostly for zoom type meetings, the 12.9 as a laptop replacement (have only used an actual laptop a couple of times in the past 2 years), as mentioned the MINI is my out and about work horse. I got the 9 just because I was curious about how good a lower price product would be. I am amazed at how well it is, to the point where if my AIR stops working, I would replace it with the 9. Just my experience with the products.
Ipad 9 is the best ipad apple made. Why? Because it cover what any1 need as a basic from ipad. Enough storage, A13, Cheap price, Center stage and now battery life. This is the first time apple can convince me to buy ipad. Best overall value with those price 👍
The biggest take away we see in this video is how the extra $200 for the 11” iPad Pro over the Air 4 is worth the purchase when deciding between the two. Better screen, better chip that will easily keep the iPad running for 8+ years, better sound speakers and 1 hour 20 minutes more battery than the iPad Air 4. Thanks for sharing the results.
@@sahilsiddiqui5937 the iPad Air 4 is 💯 great. But if someone has the money to spend and is deciding which of the two to pick, the iPad Pro 11” M1 is the way to go.

iPad Pro 12.9 uses mini led with a lot of zones, so it should last longer if you turn on dark mode?

@@erdniealinik Hehe that’s sort of true now with the a13 ipad 9. That thing is powerful as heck. But the 12.9” Pro does feel sort of fancy with the crazy screen, 5 almost pro quality mics, 4 speakers, etc. It’s crazy nice
Yeah, iPad 9 is just the poverty version of the others lol.
Finally someone did an iPad battery test! It’s also not a clickbaity title, the results are shocking! You officially got me subscribed!
So glad it was helpful. I was literally sitting there like "ummmm, I did not see this coming". Thanks for being part of the channel!
I’m surprised at how long the iPad mini lasted since it has the smallest battery. I was expecting 4-5 hours from it. I wasn’t expecting it to last longer than the iPad Pro 12.9” considering it has the biggest battery
I thought the exact same thing!!
A15 must be really efficient!
For how long the mini 6 lasted, it is honestly the best all around value since you are getting the iPhone 13/A15 chipset, 4 speakers and USB-C.
@@DarkPa1adin the A15 in the mini has the 6 core gpu but the CPU cores and GPU cores are both underclocked

How about the battery in stand by? Does ir drain faster?
I just got an iPad 9 a month ago and I'm surprised it did was well as it did.

Base iPads are always battery kings.
It’s expected. The display takes up most of the battery life. And the iPad has the lowest quality display.
I actually thought the air 4 would last more than the mini 6 and ipad 9,seeing it go a 5h 17m is actually surprising.
I am a bit surprised the big banger 12.9 inch did not go for a tad longer
, maybe apple could in the next generation tablets sacrifice some of that slimness and bump the battery size up a tad , i certainly would not mind a tad more weight and being a tad chubbier to have more battery time ..
@@mikldude9376 I completely agree I would definitely agree to sacrifice thickness for a bit more battery!

Same issues with 3rd party notes app, even it gets a bit hot at the soc area.
I just got mine today and I’m pretty bummed out from the battery ngl. I know it’s 2 years old now but like it is super low after about 5 hours.
I bought the Air 4 since I won’t abuse the battery. I just bought it for better experience and to flex on my friends. I typically use it as a music player. I also don’t have any games on my boy.
I bought for light video editing and was impressed with its battery life. Either I’m stupid, or the tab s6 lite was just not as good.
Love my “base model” iPads. Their battery life has always been staggering to me. Great info, and a pretty fair fight. Well done.

I got an iPad 9 in January and Idk why UA-cam barely recommended this to me now but wow, I’m very impressed with how the 9’s battery stacked up in this test. Right! I completely forgot about that but still don’t think that one year would make much of a difference.

Uno dei motivi per cui mi sono iscritta al tuo canale è perché sei l’unico che ha i sottotitoli in italiano e perché mi piacciono i tuoi contenuti.
Can you recommend any good power bank for iPad Pro 12.9 and iPhone at the same time ? ☺️ Great video as always!
I got my Mini 6 just before Christmas and I think it’s an awesome little device. It’s the first iPad I’ve purchased with my own money.
I have a 12.9 and have no issues with my battery, what you have to remember is its more powerful than the cheaper ones
I got the 2020 M1 1 TB 16 gig ram 12.9” model. Bought the 1 TB on release date due to the ram that does absolutely nothing w software available🤦🏽♂️ looks like battery isn’t good either…. My iPad mini 6 was about where I thought it would be.
Appreciate you sharing.
Yes there’s no reason to have 16 gigs of ram on an iPad
I have an IPad Air 4. The charge never dies. Like fr I watched 2 hours of youtube and it went from a 100 to 90
I totally did not expect the mini 6 to beat the 12.9 since mine seems to drain quicker. Oh well I could be wrong but I love my mini nonetheless! 😆
I have the newest iPad Pro, and it is really good, it’s not bad at all. 😅
Hey sir, Is iPad 9 64gb is enough for Genshin🙂🙂 and I'm early.
It's definitely enough - what else will you put on it?
@@TechGearTalk maybe a game or few small apps
as for someone who has an ipad 9 64 gb version, genshin is definitely enough, maybe in the future it won't be since games are getting bigger and bigger, but for now, it's enough.
@@sultanmontano2549 Ok thanks:)
@@sultanmontano2549 Hey can you tell me the size of genshin impact plzzz
Yeah. My iPad 9 runs forever, I just bought it a few days ago and only charged it 5 times.
Can you do a new one with the air 5 with m1 (2022)
Thank you for the battery drain test. You provided exactly what I wanted to help decide on my next iPad.
Awesome vid. I have an Air 4 and enjoy it but have been feeling the itch to upgrade to a 12.9 Pro sometime. I'll be patient and wait for the next generation whenever that is. Really hoping the Magic Keyboard gets a redesign sometime - I struggle justify that accessory without having a function row.
just got my ipad 9th 2 days old now and the battery is definitely a beast. Best Value indeed esp when u want to enter the apple ecosystem as well.
Really surprised by the results! I think you should’ve done it two more times though for a proper experiment
Love this vid! So great to see the actual battery availability with real world use. A+ video content here.
So glad it was helpful Ron. Thank you for being part of the channel!
Thanks for taking the time to do this!
I just ordered iPad 9 , its not arrived yet but wow that battery life is insane
The biggest take away we see in this video is how the extra $200 for the 11” iPad Pro over the Air 4 is worth the purchase when deciding between the two. Better screen, better chip that will easily keep the iPad running for 8+ years, better sound speakers and 1 hour 20 minutes more battery than the iPad Air 4. Thanks for sharing the results.
Still the I pad air is very great
@@sahilsiddiqui5937 the iPad Air 4 is 💯 great. But if someone has the money to spend and is deciding which of the two to pick, the iPad Pro 11” M1 is the way to go.
@@WidePhotographs yes. If he has money. But also important that it's depends on your need. 😀
don`t forget double the base storage and more ram :)
@@JudgingKitty forgot about the storage lol I didn’t think about it since I pay for iCloud. More RAM for artist who need it on pro create.
I have iPad pro M1 11 inch and i'm proud to got it , long battery , best perfomance , best camera , best speaker and very smooth on graphic🥰🥰 best everything
