The mini is something you have to realize you need. It’s the same feeling you’ll get when choosing between an iPad Pro 11 and a 12.9. Most people will go for the 11 and then realize they need a 12.9 1 year later. Honestly my mini is slowly but surely replacing my 11 pro 😞 I’m neglecting it because the mini fits in my pocket 😂
I had a mini 4 for many years. I recently replaced it with the iPad 9. One thing I had trouble with the mini was reading graphic novels on iBooks. I decided to get the larger screen (for $170 less). I really don’t use the pencil so bigger screen and less $$ sold it for me. And I’ve totally enjoyed the 9 for weeks now.

One issue I had which led me to finally sell my Mini 6 is that so many applications do not allow text size to increase. While surfing for news, etc, the tiny text size was just too small to read without straining.

I picked up the Mini 6 to use with a DJI Mini 2 as the controller display, I’ve been using it for way way more than that though. Love the size and the portability. Fits in a coat pocket. I have an M1 11” Pro, and use that for most things, but now I’ve got a little one to do other things on while I’m watching UA-cam.
I also am looking at the Mini 6 to use with my Mavic 2 instead of my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I use my IPad Pro with my Phantom 4 and while the tablet extender I have for the Mini 2 will fit the full size iPad, it’s just too big for the controller.
Bought the iPad 9 yesterday, one thing interesting for gamers: it didn't dim the brightness while playing PubG Mobile (without connected charger). On my Air 3, the 6th gen iPad and my iPhone 12 it always dimmed after a while due to iOS heat management. Haven't tried it while charging yet.
As a pilot i actually enjoy a bigger screen so I got the 9th gen. Not just for flying but for a macbook supplement (not replacement). Seeing the map and information on the same screen when you split it is so nice as a pilot and you can't really do that as well with the mini.
@@SirMopy cessna/archer. I thought it would too but it was fine on the yoke. Now I keep it on my lap and split screen it and have my iPhone suctioned to the window at eye level. The 2 together is perfect
I've owned all the mini range so far (except 3) and I just love their portability. I have two laptops of different sizes, so my iPad is just for media consumption and not productivity. If I did need an iPad for productivity, I would be looking at other larger options for sure. I love that I can pack my mini into my laptop/travel bag and not even notice the weight. The size is perfect for gaming too as it doesn't become cumbersome to hold after extended use. My mini 5 which was extremely well looked after just had an LCD failure (power adapter went a few months ago too). It's over €200 to fix it, so I decided just to buy the next gen mini instead. Hope the new one lasts a bit longer!
Hey man, I trying to raise some money to get the iPhone 13 mini because my phone is damaged and need a new phone asap to do my work, is there any service I can help you with like logo design, origami teaching and anything else?
Have u had mini 4? I’m not sure if I want the mini 4 or 9th generation…. Do u think the mini will be supported by apple longer or will it ‘’die out’’ soon?
@@ida-mariekaldbekken5929 Yep, I had the mini 4 but it is a couple of generations old now. It is still supported and can run the latest system software (OS 15), but I would be looking at the 9th gen if you are not bothered by the screen size.
I agree, the iPad mini is way too small. it's hard to write with it honestly. I was using it at the apple store and it was so hard to write with..... I mean maybe if you were really into books and wanted to read them on the mini then thats okay I guess but it's not good for taking notes which is what I thought it would be good for. Its just way too small. Having a smaller screen isn't an upgrade.
Watching this on my ipad mini 6! Got an ipad last 2017 but the mini fits for me, the size is just enough for me, i find the bigger ipad to be too bulky for my edc. Im inlove with this!
Nice vieo, thanks After nearly 3 years with the iPad Pro 10.5 from 2017 I switched last year to the ipad mini 5, but only to realize after a few weeks, that the 7.9 screen was quiet to small. Checking the new mini 6 at a local dealer, I decided to get it. And I'm very happy. it's amazing what an extra 0.4 inch of display can do...Love it...
I recently purchased a iPad Pro 10.5 inch for my kids with the 120 hz display. It’s a little older but for $379 refurbished from apple it has a lot of features for a good price. I still have the OG iPad Pro 12.9 inch and it is still going strong. It seems like that extra RAM makes a big difference.
Just got the iPad 6 mini and I love it. It's the 64G/5G model (that was the only one available from a store near by me). Let me start with the only disappointment and thing I don't like, the fingerprint ID power button. I guess I did not do my research and just assumed this had Face ID like my iPhone and iPad Pro. It just seems a bit more cumbersome to unlock than my previous mini with the home button (I realize there's no room for a home button here). With that out of the way, everything else is gold. I don't need the extra storage of the 256G model. I use this iPad when I go places where I'll have time to websurf, read etc. I also love it for note taking. The vastly improved Apple Notes app has gotten me to give up 1Note and I'm now in the process of trying to figure out how to transition all my notes to Apple notes (hint: it ain't easy). I already had an Apple Pencil II for my pro, so I can just move it from tablet to tablet as needed. I keep it in a Fintle case I got off Amazon for $15 (it looks like an old Composition Notebook). The case has a nice place for the pencil up against the charging side. It also lets the iPad sit flat on a surface to write on so you're not flopping around on that giant camera bulge. I'm sure I could have lived without the 5G cellular but as mentioned in the video the WiFi only model does not have GPS and I really like clamping this iPad in my Jeep. It's a much better navigation aid than the built in 8" display (which does use CarPlay). Other than the fingerprint ID issue, this iPad is perfect for me. We just ordered the iPad 9 for my daughter for school use. Right now she's using my old Mini 5 and I'd be very surprised if she decides to keep the 9. I think the size of this one is much better.
I love my new mini. Like obsessed honestly. I rarely use my iphone at home anymore. I specifically got it to use as a "kindle" and take with me in settings where my 12.9 pro can't come. I use my 12.9 pro for lecture notes and hw. I actually bought the ipad air and returned it because it wasn't small enough.
I keep jumping between these two and ipad air.... and I've been leaning towards the air.... plan on getting the pencil, drawing a lot, maybe gaming, and a lot of watching movies. I also want something I can take a picture with and draw over it sketching out ideas to express my creativity better at work for sharing ideas.
My reasons for getting an iPad 9 in 2023 does reveal my age a bit…being semi-retired I could afford the 256GB model, meaning I could finally copy over my complete iTunes music library, something I was unable to do on the 32/64GB iPhones I’ve been using in recent years (guess it also means I’m a bit of a cheapskate…). I also like having the option for wired audio, and I needed the packed in charger to use with my iPhone 12 Mini, which is still rocking a Lightning-port like the iPad…so there you go!
Got to tell you - be careful with those laminated screens. As nice as they are - I have had TWO of my iPads that had that feature eventually develop one - or more - bright white spots on the display -that does not come off. Not sure how common it us but if you research online - or even look at iPads on eBay - you will see this is more common than we probably thought! I went with the iPad 9 with that old classic display- sure the design is a little boring I guess - but none of my previous iPads with that design had any display issues at all!
Does anyone know if it's true that you can't use an external SSD or a powered hub on an ipad 9 because it's Lightning instead of USB-c? I've heard the SSD won't work even with a lightning to usb converter... At the moment this is the only thing holding me back from the 9...
It does support external ssd. The problem is, that if your ssd needs too much watt that it won't work. You can watch on this yt channel the video for ipad 8 and ssd compatibility. I assume that there won't be too big differences :)
Yes, Eric, it will work with a powered USB hub. The Lightning port by itself cannot otherwise put out enough power (a high enough current) to power certain external drives.
Non laminated displays mean A LOT if your proned to dropping your ipad. Much cheaper to replaces the glass on the ipad 9 vs the entire display on the mini 6
Since you are a camera fan, I imagine you use editing apps like Lightroom and Photoshop. Do you think either the iPad mini 6 or the iPad 9 would be able to handle it?
i'm a student in faculty of medicine and i am struggling with choose one of them. i am going to take a lot of notes with apple pencil. ipad mini 6 is better with charging apple pencil, ipad 9 is better with taking notes easily with bigger screen. i need your opinion, pls :)
I bought an iPad Mini Celular- 8 years ago. I did not like it for browsing - I use my 14" laptop for that. I use my Mini almost exclusively when I travel for the following: #1- as a GPS unit in the car - the best GPS ever! As your pilot viewers pointed out. #2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video a/w my laptop on the road #3 - & as an eReader Overall these years that is about all I have used the mini for (I don't game) I will likely buy the new Mini 6 as my old one is on its last leg.
I had a kindle reader back when the iPad first came out, and I bought the iPad immediately, but when the mini finally came out I bought it and never went back. I’ve looked at the larger iPads again and again, and they just don’t offer enough to make me switch
2 years later, I’m asking the same question (iPad 10th gen is not even a consideration for the price and lack of upgrades). I bought a mini 6. As much as I like it, I’m just not in love with it. It’s convenient, it’s powerful, it’s more future-proof than the iPad 9. But it just doesn’t suit my needs at the price tag. I never thought I’d have buyer’s remorse for such a wonderful product. Switching to a iPad 9. And happy with the Apple pencil 1, plethora of large size keyboard cases, audio Jack (can listen to headphones while charging simultaneously), bigger screen, etc. just fit my personal needs better. In 2024…I’m sure I’ll get 2 years out of the 3gb Ram and A13 processor with the resource hogging and slowness each iOS update introduces. But when it’s on sale, it makes it easier to swallow than a 6 mini (still an awesome machine). Buy the product you *need* not the product you think you need to get because it’s a better value.
Actually non laminated display is better, as when it breaks most of the time it's only the upper glass that's broken and can be replaced very easily and is way cheaper than replacing the entire display.
I’ve been watching your videos on a daily basis! Waiting for the 2022 iPad Air but I’m planning to get my mom an iPad 9 or iPad Mini and this video is really helpful.
I bought mini 6 No regrets about the iPad mini 6 The only regret I bought it from best buy which gave me less trade in value then apple also I could've used apple education for 50$ off I traded my iPad 8 which I bought in June 10 from Walmart paying 400 for 128gigs But I lost almost half the value 😑😑
You should buy basing on your purpose or intent of usage. Both are great devices but I think it serves different purposes. I think the Ipad Mini 6 is great for entertainment/leisure. I got the Ipad Mini 6 and I use it mainly for gaming and watching shows and movies. It is the perfect size for playing since it fits your hand greatly, navigation is so easy. It is also perfect for watching movies for me since I mainly watch laying down on my bed. Meanwhile I think the Ipad 9th Gen is perfect for work or studying purposes. The larger display is great for attending online meetings and classes, great for taking notes and reading ebooks.

Honestly I have an Iphone 8 Plus which has 4K 60fps ability, takes FAR better photos than any Ipad will, has a lot more features, and really you can't tell a difference in them at all, just the size. I'm debating on keeping the Ipad 9 or not because I just don't find it that useful, facetiming is very fuzzy, and neither camera on the 9 is very good. The wireless drops pretty easily and I haven't had problems on any of my PC's, gaming systems etc. Also the sound is loud, but honestly not nearly as loud as my phone or even my fathers Samsung Tablet. Also it's bulky, and just reminds me of a giant phone that i can't use outside of my wireless area, and probably wouldn't either. I'd choose a conventional laptop, which I have two of. Of maybe even a Chromebook. Lastly the speed on the 9 seems no different than my GF's Ipad 8, it's not INSTANT as he says in the video, but somethings are fast (enough). For $329 I just can't recommend this is you've already spend nearly $1000 or less on a nice Iphone. I rarely see people use Ipads, other than my mother who is bed ridden. Other than that, 99% of everyone I see are always on their phone(s). For EVERYTHING. So unless you're hardcore (as the video says) there's really on reason for any ipad. Honestly I use my Dell Gaming PC for pretty much EVERYTHING I do, or my laptop as I said. But these are just my thoughts. I can spend that kind of money on other things of use. But they're good for the people who like them. Great VIDEO btw, very informative!!
I'm here becasue I cannot decide between 9 and mini. When I hear the connector usb-c vs. lightning, yeah, i should take that into consider too. I wish basic iPad is in usb-c too. Looks like I'm getting based model pro instead 🤣if I'm after the usb-c connector. Their price are close to each model.

Love your videos. I haven’t bought an iPad in years. I have an iPad mini 4 which I still use but vertical lines have started to appear on the screen so now I want to buy a new iPad. Apart from being on a tight budget, I also think I’d like to try a bigger display. Do you think I’d find the display on the IPad 9 just as good as the iPad mini 4 or better? Thanks.
I think the iPad 9th gen. is a better deal for the money. But I have been using a 6th gen. iPad with Apple Pencil for my hobby art needs since 2018 when I bought it new. I want to upgrade to a more powerful iPad. The iPad Air 4th gen. and iPad Pro's are too expensive for me. So I find the 6th gen. iPad mini the sweet spot. I am confident I can draw on the iPad mini just as good as my 6th gen. iPad as I've researched videos on UA-cam.

One issue I had which led me to finally sell my Mini 6 is that so many applications do not allow text size to increase. While surfing for news, etc, the tiny text size was just too small to read without straining.

Watching this on my iPad mini. Love it. Works perfect for what I need.
I am so excited 😆 I got the iPad 9 it will help me a lot playing games and taking notes will be useful thing for me the 256GB. Thx Sagi
Such a spoiler
Bought the iPad 9 yesterday, one thing interesting for gamers: it didn't dim the brightness while playing PubG Mobile (without connected charger). On my Air 3, the 6th gen iPad and my iPhone 12 it always dimmed after a while due to iOS heat management. Haven't tried it while charging yet.
As a pilot i actually enjoy a bigger screen so I got the 9th gen. Not just for flying but for a macbook supplement (not replacement). Seeing the map and information on the same screen when you split it is so nice as a pilot and you can't really do that as well with the mini.
weird that your bigger screen is not covering transponder or other instruments………. wanna know what type u flyin

@@ida-mariekaldbekken5929 Yep, I had the mini 4 but it is a couple of generations old now. It is still supported and can run the latest system software (OS 15), but I would be looking at the 9th gen if you are not bothered by the screen size.

I was regretting of small size before but battery durability and everything speedy soothes me… happy with mini
Nice vieo, thanks
After nearly 3 years with the iPad Pro 10.5 from 2017 I switched last year to the ipad mini 5, but only to realize after a few weeks,
that the 7.9 screen was quiet to small. Checking the new mini 6 at a local dealer, I decided to get it.
And I'm very happy. it's amazing what an extra 0.4 inch of display can do...Love it...
I really enjoyed your review. You are a good speaker, factual, neither lurid nor boring. Keep up the good work!

Love my mini 6 !
It’s nice for Lumafusion & iMovie 👍🏼

I got my son the 9 for Xmas and I’ll get the mini when I get my taxes. I like that I can fit it in my bag. Thank You for this video 😊
Great review. Thank you for pointing out the difference of laminated display. I always wondered if it matters.
@@johnrigs6540 thanks for this info. I'll look into it
Does anyone know if it's true that you can't use an external SSD or a powered hub on an ipad 9 because it's Lightning instead of USB-c? I've heard the SSD won't work even with a lightning to usb converter... At the moment this is the only thing holding me back from the 9...
It does support external ssd. The problem is, that if your ssd needs too much watt that it won't work. You can watch on this yt channel the video for ipad 8 and ssd compatibility. I assume that there won't be too big differences :)
@@MT-ry8gv my plan was using a powered USB hub, like people have been doing with the mini/air/pro, but idk if it works... WIll check out the video

I'd pay twice for mobility because I once owned ipad pro 12.9" which is too heavy to carry around, so I sold it and long wait until mini 6 is out.
I bought an iPad Mini Celular- 8 years ago. I did not like it for browsing - I use my 14" laptop for that.
I use my Mini almost exclusively when I travel for the following:
#1- as a GPS unit in the car - the best GPS ever! As your pilot viewers pointed out.
#2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video a/w my laptop on the road
#3 - & as an eReader
Overall these years that is about all I have used the mini for (I don't game)
I will likely buy the new Mini 6 as my old one is on its last leg.
