      As an American visiting London, my wife and I both felt safe walking the streets, but I did point some young lads in the direction of a pub near where we were staying. They were really drunk, and I worried what I had foisted on that establishment, which to me seemed nice. It was a neighborhood kind of place. I felt a little more concerned when the youths passed by a man walking in my direction, and for what seemed little reason starting flailing their arms, yelling at him, and shouting obscenities.

    People are generally stressed out and full of tension, to varying degrees. Violence is a powerful release for that. The friday and saturday night brawls we see on the streets are most likely the product of a stressful week at work mixed with the stimulating effect of alcohol and/or other substances. These people just need a safe and cathartic outlet for their tension, whether it be boxing, working out, competitive sports or listening to heavy metal. But too many people just let the tension build and build and then end up releasing it on the street because someone looked at them funny.

    OK this is why weekend rowdiness is a problem is the UK... its because as a nation we binge drink, there is a real problem with binge drinking the bars and clubs play music so load they we can't talk we just rush the drinks to get drunk, its cold and always fucking raining and we don't care if we look like dicks when we get wasted, I visited LA and it was a very different vibe, warm weather more relaxed people were talking to each other and not just racing to get shit faced. It has become socially acceptable to be very drunk and that leads to poor decision making and fighting.

    • @fuzzface8744
      @fuzzface8744 8 років тому

      The nation doesn't binge drink. They say 5 million people go out to drink etc on a weekend in the UK. The UK has a population of 64 million.

      ***** go to any city centre in the UK and even some small market towns on a friday night it's not a nice place. Obviously children don't binge drink, but people who go out on the weekends like to get mashed

    • @fuzzface8744
      @fuzzface8744 8 років тому +4

      logical fruit Oh i know. I've been a doorman and also used to go to a lot of nightclubs myself. Spent a lot of time in London, Norwich, Cambridge, Peterborough, Nottingham etc etc. Was just saying that the people who do go out on a weekend isn't as large a number as people think it is. People seem to think the entire 64 million population of the UK goes out and gets smashed on a weekend. The reality is roughly 5 million go out on a weekend. Then not all 5 million will drink as a number of those people will be the designated drivers etc. Then only a small percentage of those will get into a fight. When i was a doorman i'd roughly see between 1 to 3 fights each Friday and Saturday night. Those varied from minor pathetic scuffles to full on fights. Look back through history though and you will see we have always been this way. The Victorian era especially. They loved a good old drink and a punch up. lol

  • @Fizz-Pop

    Unfortunately here in the UK it is seen as cool to go out and get pissed up and then have a fight. We aren't all like that though. Frankly it is embarrassing behaviour and worse still that we are known for it. And the comment about about not picking a fight incase the other guy is packing, over here if you pick a fight with the wrong person you will get stabbed. That doesn't stop people though, and I can imagine it is the same with guns.

    I've witnessed this on vacation in New Zealand haha! Christ Church to be exact. The other places I went weren't as many fights but I wasn't in the country long enough. So true.

    It's not just the lack of guns and free health care so the state picks up the tab. The downside of that is that you will be waiting hours on end in a hospital to be seen to. It's because the drinking age is lower and the alcoholic drinks are stronger. At least 4% alcohol content in beer now.

  • @Allagi22

    This is 100% accurate. I have showed so many people this video. It also applies to Canada Vs. USA as well. Canada has a lot less gun violence (although it is easier to get a gun in Canada than the UK) but I've been out drinking in Canada and seen real bar fights/street brawls on a Saturday night. In the US I've never seen a true drag out bar fight or street fist fight on a busy night downtown. However, doesn't mean the USA is safe. I have a friend who was shot (thankfully survived) in an attempted robbery, and another who was jumped and beaten very badly (broken bones, concussion) in a street robbery as well. Also I live in a state that had a school shooting as well. I am 100% pro universal healthcare, and we need sensible gun reform in the USA but Stanhope makes great points. My favorite comedian and indeed philosopher bar none.

    haha he's so on point with the "where are from, across the street", people are brutal to each other here.
    I reckon americans would be more similarly brutal to each other if they didn't have guns though. I definitely prefer having no guns!

    I think his problem was choosing to go to Manchester of all places lol. Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and especially London aren't the friendliest of places.
    Homicide rates are much higher in the US, both for gun and knife attacks, but I have no doubt that in terms of general hand to hand, England is more violent as a whole. Especially if you happen to support the wrong football team on the night of a game. Some people take that tripe way too seriously.
