  • In this video I unbox the CompuShift with custom AW4 harness from HGM Automotive Electronics. This is a full programmable transmission controller for the AW4 automatic out of an XJ Cherokee which I will be swapping into my 2006 TJ Wrangler.

Regarding USB micro instead of USB C... we really tried but at the time of design there were no IP rated USB C connectors on the market that would fit in the aluminum enclosure.

Yes..... this is going to be so helpful with my 2000 jeep xj . I will be swaping in a om617 and want to keep my aw4. And I love that rocket from au rocks this on his 78 series I had no idea.

Yeah agreed, seeing it on his 78 series is why I called HGM Electronics. I'll be doing a video soon on mounting and installing it on my Wrangler as well! I considered the OM617 engine for this swap, it's a really great engine! The OM617 + AW4 in a XJ Cherokee is a great combo on and off road!

in process of 4l80e swap into hmmwv m998 hummer and am also very impressed with quality of this system. waiting for drivesahafts to be made and a dipstick tube. but am not foreseeing any issues as the quality of the harness and tcu are very good to excellent

Agreed Scott, I'm just now about to install the CompuShift controller and I'm expecting it to work flawlessly. The only input that is going to be slightly difficult to figure out is going to be the RPM signal!

Is this a need for a swap like this? I am interested in putting a diesel in my XJ and am completely lost about what to do to make it work with the AW4.

You can use the stock TCU from your XJ but I don’t know the details. I didn’t have one of those TCUs or wiring so it was worth it to go with the CompuShift.

@@RustyAutoholicGuy Thanks for the response. I will look further into it.

you bought a aftermarket TCM, when the aw4 does not need a tcm to operate, and you bought a wintershifter kit from radesign, which does everything you need be side TC lock up, which is a two wire and one toggle switch hook up. Completely defeats the need of getting the winters shifter. Besides manually shifting a aw4 and having full control is way better then letter the tcm take control even on a DD.

Yeah I've got a habit of buying to many parts for a project and this falls into one of those categories as well. I'm not sure I'll be using the Winter's shifter anymore, might be saving that for another project, still going to run TCM though, it has some neat features for both on and off roading that I want to play with. BUT with all that said, I might get the Wrangler on the road, hate it and pull the TCM out and go with the Winter's manual shifter setup, only time will tell!!!

@@RustyAutoholicGuy you wont get engine breaking with the TCM, engine breaking is only able to be done by having full manual control as in actually moving the shifter. the shifter cable has to do with engine brakeing, as the tcm just controls the solenoids for each gear. FYI. Thats why i said its point less to run and have that tcm. extra money spent that was not needed.

@@RustyAutoholicGuy I could use that winters shifter. Swapping an aw4 from a 91XJ into my 90YJ.
