Always nice to see people enjoying the scene. It has changed several times over the years, my first show was 77, but the vibe is pretty consistent. You always want more. There are no requirements or rules for calling yourself a Deadhead. If you feel like you are, then you are. Welcome aboard.
My first show 10-11-77 Just got back to NorCal from Fri/sat shows. Bittersweet. 30 years ago this month Bill Walton and his Wife Lori sat with us all 3 nights in Vegas. They would come back from backstage at set break with arm load of cold waters for us. Then took a wonderful pic with my wife an I (we cherish) and sent a a thank you card for having seats for them all 3 nights. True “Class act”!! Had 24 year old kids in front of me first night. They asked me at set break if we wanted to switch seats as they were tall and didn’t want to obstruct our view. Mind you I’m a fit guy that was up and dancing. Next night same thing. Some kids in front of us turned around and asked the guy next to me, if we minded them standing and dancing. We responded no, dance away but thank you for being so considerate. It ain’t the good ole Grateful Dead, but it’s so cool that this scene still exists for young kids to experience and to understand situational awareness and communal kindness. And I think Mayer is finally getting it too. His playing and singing is becoming for thoughtful
That’s great about the kids asking if they were blocking your view. Being a senior, I don’t stand through the whole show but don’t usually mind if people stand in front of me. But I have been to shows (not GD) where I couldn’t see anything even when I stood because the people in front of me were very tall and never sat down. That’s my complaint j 😅
I'm a long time fan (1975 first show). I really appreciate the acknowledgement of the symbiosis of the band and the fans. It is important. Can't wait to see the 3rd dimension of the visuals.
Purists can't make the same experience for the younger generation. They should trust the dead to determine their new shows. My friend who is a dead head wants to go. Of course. It is stupid to gatekeep. As for the giveaway ticket. You thought you wanted an empty seat and you got it. You provided a great gift. You should give with one and and not let the other hand see. You shouldn't help someone out so you can tell others about it. Giving is its own reward. Trust me, she was grateful.
I like that you mention that it doesn't matter what draws people to the show, visuals or music. Whatever it takes to introduce people to the scene. The messages in the lyrics and music and culture are what the world needs. Whatever it takes to reach new people is fine. The bus is referring to the bus named Further. Its the psychedelic painted bus the Merry Pranksters rode across the country. The bus driver for Further was Neal Cassady. Famous both a major character in Jack Kerouac's book On the Road, and also as the craziest driver in ever. He was a major player in the beat generation of the 50s' 60's and of the hippy Bay area scene in the 60's Cassady joined Ken Kesey (author of one flew over the cukoos nest) in the Pranksters and they would host LSD parties in the mid 60's, as described in Tom Wolfe's book, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Tests. The house band for these shows was the Warlocks, later renamed the Grateful Dead. Its at the Acid Tests where they developed their psychedelic jam style as a way to make the music fit the trip. Cassady is referenced in the Grateful Dead song The Other One (The bus came by and I got on and thats when it all began, there was Cowboy Neal, at the wheel of the bus to never ever land).
Be aware this is from a non-Head. From what I've heard and seen on line the visuals are so intense, I think many bands would be secondary. I'll find out for myself 8/9.

Everything now is Gordon Ramsay and celebrity chefs even the food courts. If you go to food court now instead of having a McDonald's they'll have. If you go to food court now instead of having a McDonald's they'll have a Bobby Flay burger place with $28 hamburgers. Instead of having a Sbarro they'll have some celebrity chef pizza place. That's why I have no guilt about sneaking in alcohol every time
@@JoeInVegasReviews we stayed at Orleans
Still had a semi-cafe 15.00 breakfast
And a food court 24/7. With fuddruckers and sbarro Still not cheap but better than the restaurant that had 78.00 Porterhouse and 54.00 fillets
@@Oldcrow77 orleans is one of the last remaining "old school" places left.. its also considered "off strip" very hard to find a sbarros on the strip. if there are any left, they will be gone soon.
@@JoeInVegasReviews gotcha
That’s why we stayed there, was the old school vibe VS the Strip windup

oh yeah, I caught that, too, but pretty minor, all things considered
I went on July 3 2024. The visuals were lame. Absolutely sophmoric. Maybe you lasted a bit longer than me. But I walked out.
