My parents took me on holiday to Bridlington regularly from Doncaster. Now, by a quirk of fate I live there and it’s a wonderful place, out of the way, bustling in summer, great beaches and a fabulous chalk headland with caves and cliffs and seabirds and seals. I’m really happy here.

We used to go to brid every year for a holiday. That land train station at the start used to be a mini boating lake. With loads of little 2 person boats, use to love going on that.

We spent seven seasons in Bridlington back at the start of the 1970s mostly at the Spa or the 3 Bees club, I remember Less Dawson going for his paper one morning and he took me with him to a Newsagents opposite the Spa Cilla Black was on at the 3 Bees one year she was Really nice but then we were from Liverpool originally too.
My mother was a pianist and singer Less was on a couple of years but mostly we spent time with a pianist called Mike Terry at the 3 Bees club I loved Bridlington and spent a lot of time at the Boating pool which I doubt is there anymore.

@@WalkWithMeTim if I remember correctly those red sea mines were converted into charity collecting mines for the life boats? As a child of the 50's you could walk all the way down the fishing boat harbour wall, no H&S issues back then. There was a row boat ferry from there to over to the pleasure steamers tie ups. It saved the long walk round the harbour, the roads and pavements jammed with trippers in the heydays. Happy, happy days. My father was ex RN and his ashes were scattered in the North Bay by us. The pleasure steamers at the time were the Yorkshire Man and the Bridlington Belle. Cheers DougT

Enjoyed this walk around Bridlington which I do about 3 or 4 times a year. The only mistake you made was when you said if you walk along the cliffs you'll come to Robin Hood's bay and then Scarborough. The next resort is Filey and then Scarborough and You'll find Robin Hood's Bay on the way from Scarborough to Whitby. One of the best place to have Fish and chips is Busy Bees which is across the road from the Spa and in town. The best place for a nice view of the bay and the best scones can be found at the Spa Complex Cafe. Being going to Bridlington since I was 4 years old and is the best resort on the East Yorkshire coast. The old town of Bridlington in a nice place to walk around. Alway go and see the Spa Theatre pantomime which sells the cheapest theatre programmes for a professional show. Will be back in Brid at Easter, it only 45 minutes on the train from Hull

Tim another great stream. I think you have just shown me the best Seaside in the UK. I have never been it looks lovely and clean, even the seafront railings are lovely and clean painted white.
So many seaside seafront railings are crumbling or rusty in many seasides.

My mom grew up in Brid, and it's been almost 30 years since I last went. Part of me is sad to see the changes, though I know change is inevitable. Appreciated the walk down the pier to where my grandfather and many ancestors were fisherman. I didn't even realize you could go up in there. My mom always just took me to where the fishermen were coming in with their hauls. My heart does kind of break though that Alzheimer's took her before you did this tour. She would have wanted it on repeat.

We need the NHS to fund one or both of them now.

    Another great video Tim.
I have very happy memories of being taken here by my grand-parents and uncle for 1 week around 40 years ago. We stayed in the Shirley Hotel, which sadly is no longer there but is now a block of flats. The old hotel frontage is still there though!
I absolutely loved it there. We used it as a base to visit Scarborough (you've got to go and see the model boat parade on one of the lakes there!), Hornsea to see visit Hornsea pottery (which sadly closed a few years ago), plus a few other local places too.
I went back about 4 years and spent the day there, absolutely loved it but it had changed so much since the 80's!

Hiya Tim I love all your videos really are informative
I've lived in Bridlington now for around 36 years and thanks to your video on Bridlington I've learned that you can go down the other side of the harbour I always thought that was for the harbour workers/fishermen
    So thanks for that
But I do need to correct you on one of your comments towards the end of the video you mentioned after Bridlington that robin hood's bay would follow when actual fact the next places would flambourgh Filey then scarbourgh.
Robin hood's bay is up near Whitby further up the north coast
But there's one thing you can take from this Tim is that you can see I watch your videos to the end I do love your videos mate keep up the good work

Personally would recommend Busy Bees for the fish n chips - they have more than one restaurant - but can recommend the one on chapel street. they have a 1940s event in June time in Old Town too. i can also recommend the views from the Spa Cafe - lovely coffee and gorgeous scones .......... Plenty of donuts around in the harbour also, if Gabby came with you !!

With regards to the best chippy in Bridlington, I know it's not in the town centre but we love Gabby's in the Old Town as it's the only chippie (we know of) which serves vegetarian chips. Lots of the other chippies cook in animal oil/fat. If you know of anymore please let me know, but we do love Gabby's.

We always visit Brid when we're in Yorkshire. The beach is perfect for our Spaniel, as so much of the beach is dog friendly. Happy walking! Nettie.

Nice video. It's been a few years since my last trip to Brid . Noticed a few changes . At the start of your tour ,adjacent to the Spa theatre used to be a boating lake with a miniature railway, now concreted over.,the sun loungers on the prom and the leisure centre appeared to have a revamp. When in Yorkshire do you have "scraps" with your fish and chips?

I've been to brid more times than i care to remember since the 60's but lately went year on year for 5 years on golfing trips late september, and although didnt have much in the way of fish n chips, we often used the stirling castle pub, where you can get a fantastic mixed grill washed down with a few pints of taylors landlord, coupled with large screen tv's when the ryder cup was on it didnt get much better lol. BTW how do you always get a lovely day wherever you go?

Not been to Brid for a couple of years - for the obvious reasons - but its a British seaside classic if anyone is in the area I'd urge them to visit - in the height of summer Bridlington - fish and chips and ice cream - a grand day out and it is like Whitby - so many fish and chip shops and never found a bad one myself I suspect because like Whitby if you try and sell rubbish fish and chips you won't be open for long.
