For those of you who, like me, got stuck in Transparency mode with no apparent escape, you need to press the left preview thumbnail in the Transparency window, obscure as that may be.
Yes,very helpful straith to the point, thank you! But now i want to place text over the image not affected by the gradient but it doesnt seem to work. I cant seem to add another layer 🤔
Hey thanks for posting this! Super helpful. Is there a way to copy paste the gradient effect onto a new design? When I try to do this, only the logo pastes without any gradient. Cheers man!
If i want to paint my object with gradients using the paint bucket tool but the color combinations i want to use are horizontal, how can I change it to vertical???
Thanks this gave me exactly the effect I wanted but now it seem I can't make any other edits to my piece. my layers don't show up only the gradient layer.
It may be that you still have the mask layer selected in the Transparency menu. Make sure to select the original image layer (it's the thumbnail on the left.)
That did not work for me and I really did end up having to paste the gradient in. Creating the gradient within the mask also did not seem to work for me.
@@fanniedesrochers7882 Same, when I tried pasting it everything disappeared and my layers panel showed only the opacity mask. This worked. Thanks OtterPops
Great tutorial! I would do pretty much the same, but would paste the gradient with CTRL + F to paste in place. No need to center the gradient afterwards, since this paste would place the object in the same coordinates as before (regarding the artboard, so usefull to paste the same object through several artboards in the same place). Cheers!
I am doing exactly what you're doing so when I paste the mask, it just closes the Transparency tab and makes the entire image disappear. It's not working
Hello Sir, Hope you are fine in good health. I have a question about the Transparent Gradient Mask. How many times apply Transparent Gradient Mask on the same image. Thanks
For those of you who had the same problem when transparency doesn't show the (make mask) option just click on the three lines in the top right corner next the (gradient-transparency) window and from then click (Show options) and it will appear.
Ok, and how to make this for both sides of an image? This in case you want to fade in 3 images, how to make the middle image have transparency on both sides, left and right?
Amazing! this is great tool. I tried it in different way, I would recommend to use the same way in creating curve transparent gradient. I needed it to do my pouch design. Thanks for your video.
I have some art that utilizes this technique EVERYWHERE in the design. Is there a way I can select them all at once and release them? I need to make it a solid color and selecting each individual one is taking forever
Yes. Select all of the objects at once, then use the hamburger menu in the Transparency window (top-right corner) and select "Release". This should release everything selected. If it doesn't work you may have to ungroup them first (Object > Ungroup)
For those of you who, like me, got stuck in Transparency mode with no apparent escape, you need to press the left preview thumbnail in the Transparency window, obscure as that may be.
THANK YOU!
Lol 😅I was once roaming all over the stuff to escape from this shit 😂...
OMG YOU JUST SAVED MY BRAIN. This tutorial missed the most important part. lol Thank you
May God bless this capeless hero!
you save my life!
The gradients are so counterintuitive, I would have thought the black was opaque and white more transparent. Thanks for the tutorial!!
I also get confused in that 😄
Pretty simple for me. Remember that black people steal pixels and white don't.
BROOOOOOOOO!!! You have no idea how helpful this tutorial was! I had no Idea you could go into the mask and retrieve the original mask object!
one of the best videos on YT to explain this!! thank you
IT HELPED BROOO!!
aaaand if you get stuck on the opacity mask layer
on the transparency panel click on the main pic
OK thank me later folks!!

Thanks Man You just save the day !
this is great tutorial. thanks
Short and clear! Thanks master
Hello, I did exactly the same as followed in the video. However, the gradient disappears if you export the file as a pdf file. How is that possible?
Just what I needed! Thank you!
You don't have to cut & paste the gradient. Just select both objects > "Make Mask" in Transparency tab. You're welcome. =]
That did not work for me and I really did end up having to paste the gradient in. Creating the gradient within the mask also did not seem to work for me.
thanks! for some reason it wasn't working for me the copy paste and this worked!
@@fanniedesrochers7882 Same, when I tried pasting it everything disappeared and my layers panel showed only the opacity mask. This worked. Thanks OtterPops

Thanks so much 👍

Is it possible to make 2 masks for the same object? Having troubles figuring that one out
I want to make the bottom half gradient transparent as well as the top left corner
thank you for this tutorial :)
After following this video I couldn't select any other objects on the page, why is that?
The layers also only show the and the rest aren't visible.
You have to go back to the transparency menu and activate the thumbnail with the original artwork in it.
This helps! Thank you so much!
What if I want to do exactly the same thing just I need Black to stay and white became transparent?
GREAT TUTORIAL!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much! very helpful
Thank youuuu. It worked
Hi you can do it with a pattern instead of an image?
Hello Sir, Hope you are fine in good health. I have a question about the Transparent Gradient Mask. How many times apply Transparent Gradient Mask on the same image. Thanks
thanks for this. I've struggled with that until now. Different workflow in Photoshop.
no black square when I open up transparency window
This is a great way to create gradients between regular photos and photos with applied effects! Thank you!
thankyou! so helpful
I wanna put 2 masks on 2 sides. This means if I wanna put one more Gradient on top of my head, what can I do? Can I add one more Mask tab
Thanks for the video. Very much helpful!
Ok great, but it blocks all of my otyher objects... how can I select the rest of it? also my layers are "Layers (opacity mask)"
just close and reopen the software that works... great video thnx
good awesome technique sir
Cheers! This really helped!

can the gradient side be black or any other color except white?
please help
Ok great. but now, how do I export that and have it actually use the gradient!
For some reason this will not work for me. My image becomes part of the page.. I no longer can click on anything? What am I doing wrong?
Great, thank you!
Thanks for this. I find Illustrator so convoluted to use.
Thanks so much!

Very useful, thank you
Thank you soo much🔥❤️
Helpful!! Thanks:)
Thanks man!
Great tutorial
Awesome mate, thanks a ton
thanks man!! really save my day
There is no "mask" button on my transparency window. Only a slider for transparency levels and a dropdown for blending modes.
Click the little menu icon in the top-right corner of the Transparency menu and select "show thumbnails". It should appear then.
god-sent!
Straight to the point and spot on. Thanks, Nick!
So great! Thank you for this tutorial!
Thanks man🎉😅
Amazing! this is great tool. I tried it in different way, I would recommend to use the same way in creating curve transparent gradient. I needed it to do my pouch design. Thanks for your video.
After using this feature I am not able to select anything on my artboard ..Any solution ?
You have to go back into the transparency menu and click on the original image layer because you're currently in the mask layer
