  • In this video I talk about the reason I am quitting stacking silver maple leaf coins. I unbox some silver maple leaf coins and then I talk about why I quit silver stacking and silver maple leaf coins until the premiums come back down. This is extremely hard for me to say because I have a silver stacking goal of finishing my monster box of silver maple leaf coins. I love stacking the 2022 silver maple leaf, but the premiums are getting too high for me. I would prefer to spend less than a $5 premium right now on any physical silver for investment or stacking. When you are investing in silver or silver stacking it is smart to buy low premium silver. I hope that premiums can come down on silver maple leaf coins in the near future so I can stack more, but until that happens I have quit. At the end of the video I unbox the 2022 Germania Mint Valkyries Hildegard Ultra High Relief 2 oz Silver Antiqued Round that was sent to me for review.

I can argue for 15-20% premiums. Everyone needs to make a living, and profit margins are necessary.

True. There is a higher premium of Silver Maple Leafs - for two good reasons. There is a world-class security feature on the Maple Leaf’s not typically found on large silver bars. Secondly, when SHTF it will be will much easier for daily commerce/barter to deal in single ounce Maple Leafs than impractical, cumbersome silver bars.

Agreed that premiums are way too high. But, you also get credibility of it being genuine, whereas generic bars might be harder to barter if people question its authenticity. There’s a lot of fake silver, and as a result, less trust. It’s a balancing act for sure!

In my experience, you can often find previous year Maples for less than 2022 premiums. I've found occasional deals at JM Bullion on them at very acceptable prices. Even look at their non-sale prices for Maples today. To you, it's a question if your Monster Box has to all be the same date? Or if it just has to be 500 Maples.

A fun collection is to purchase 1 Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Dollar from each year beginning in 1988. As far as I'm concerned Bullion Coins are sovereign coins and should be noticed for their numismatic value with short mintages. A local dealer was not going to give no more than Gold Spot for a 2019 Gold Buffalo. I think there should be an official ruling on Sovereign Bullion Coins. What do you think Silver Dragons?

Canadian Mint has applied Mintshield surface protection to all silver maples from 2018 and up. Mintshield reduces the occurrence of milk spots. If your silver maples have milk spots, they are older than 2018 mintage year. I have zero issues with milk spotting with my 2021-2022 silver maples. Time will tell how well Mintshield holds up.
