Narrated by Sarah Bryant herself (voice actor Lisle Wilkerson), this covers many iterations of the original 3D fighting game... stay tuned for an overview of the rest of the series in the coming days!
Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown launches June 1 as a PS4 console exclusive, and will be available for PlayStation Plus members right away.

Even in today's age of 4K and ray tracing, the original Virtua Fighter is still pretty impressive. In 1993 there truly was nothing else like it and without it there wouldn't be Tekken, Dead or Alive or SoulCalibur.
That is true. And that is all it did. I am thankful that we have TEKKEN and Soul Calibur. If all we had was Virtua Fighter, then the 3D fighting genre would've died out DECADES AGO🤣
@@shinbakihanma2749 This is the case for all game genres. Platformers would've died with only Mario, consoles would have died with only the Atari 2600, mobile games would have died with only Angry Birds, etc.

Yeah, Namco basically headhunted the staff of AM2 and made the awesome Tekken series. With actual endings which took VF 3 games before they added them. LOL.
Worst part was Sega licensed the engine to Tecmo. Yknow, the guys who made Dead Or Alive.
You have no idea how good it feels to see the AM2 logo again. It’s like seeing an old friend after years.

For real thought Virtua Fighter doesn't get the credit that it deserves
Like, seriously. Games like Tekken, Soul Calibur and DOA never would’ve been the way they were if it weren’t for Virtua Fighters’ influence on the 3D fighters genre.
Stop lying. Virtua Fighter has always gotten the credit it deserves. The credit it deserves is the fact that it is the first 3D fighter, and revolutionized that aspect of gaming back in 1993. It was hugely successful, and made SEGA a lot of money. Then everyone else started making far superior 3D fighters (TEKKEN, SOUL CALIBUR) to Virtua Fighter, and SEGA started to stagnate... and the rest is history🤣
@@CrystalTigerclaw Virtua Fighter's only influence on the 3D fighting genre, is that it created it. Everyone else took the concept, and greatly improved upon it, while SEGA stood by twiddling it's thumbs letting everyone else pass them by.🤣

@@NastyTete Dude, the only thing Virtua Fighter contributed to the fighting game genre is that it existed. It created the 3D fighting genre by existing. Other than that, it contributed nothing else of merit. TEKKEN, Soul Calibur, and even DOA has done far more for the 3D fighting genre than Virtua Fighter ever did. VF was ahead of it's time, nearly 30 years ago. Virtua Fighter is useless, and has been for decades.🤣

Trust me. You will love Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown. I played Final Showdown on Xbox One and now I can play VIrtua Fighter V on PS4.
Probably the most realistic fighting game out there. Minus jump heights.
This game shaped my adolescence, I became a huge real life martial arts enthusiast and still play VF every chance I get. Thank you!

I love and enjoyed playing with our Virtua Fighter since my beautiful childhood. Me, my old friends and even my two sisters enjoyed playing with our Virtua Fighter on Arcade, PC, Dreamcast, PS2 and PS3 from lovely 1990's to early 2009i❤️❤️❤️👊👊👊.
I still remember seeing this in the local VHS rental store in the nineties. Along with Daytona USA. I remember thinking it was sooo impressive! Even the fingers of the characters move! Thank you SEGA AM2! The second one had me choosing the Saturn over the PS1 in 1995... ❤️

Virtua Fighter is, to me, the best 3D fighting series of all-time. ✊
I remember playing this game at a Nathan’s arcade in the early 90s as a little kid. I used to ask my dad to bring me to the arcade every weekend. I would spend all of my quarters on Virtua Fighter. It sparked a lifelong passion for fighting games.

I remember there was a local arcade in my hometown of Glendale, Ca that was two stories! There was a version of Virtua Fighter 1, not as a normal arcade cabinet, but in the holographic square screen. Amazing to look at. Sega was always very cutting edge in the arcades.

That's the thing that SEGA (and morons in these UA-cam threads) doesn't get. They're releasing yet another update to a game almost no one plays. For what? It can't be to test the waters on the viability of the VF series, because there's long available proof that no one cares about VF.😑
Someone high up at SEGA foolishly believes that they can make some sort of money in esports with an updated version of a 15 year old game. A game that has proven that it has no real viability in the FGC, atleast not long term. They've done nothing to competently promote any meaningful investment into the resurgence of the Virtua Fighter series by announcing some sort of definitive VF collection or anything of the sort. That and or an announcement of a Virtua Fighter sequel, would've gone a long way to showing good intentions on their part. They've only made a half assed attempt at an obvious cash grab. The handwriting is on the wall. SEGA themselves care the least about their own series😔
@@shinbakihanma2749 That's the same exact thing that happened when Capcom made that Darkstalkers collection. They were judging if people wanted a new Darkstalkers game based on the collection's sales which is stupid because not many people care about these collections of old fighting games. I agree 100% I don't think VF5 US will not be very popular even if it's on PS+ it's just too much of a niche product for anyone not living in Japan. It's obvious they made US for Japan since it's not using rollback netcode.

I remember first playing this on the 32X. First 3D fighting game I ever played. It's come a long way. Glad to see to see it's getting a second lease on life. Don't squander this iconic series, Sega.
This is just hype! I got Virtua Fighter V Final Showdown on Xbox One, but now I can play Virtua Fighter on PS4. Not from streaming with PSNow, not in a minigame in Yakuza, not the Sega Genesis version from Sega Genesis Classics, it's the real deal!

And Virtua Fighter (alongside Rad Mobile) became the main reason I bought my Astro City Mini last year.
What's interesting is that to this day, people are still impressed by how innovative VF was and still is. In fact, whenever I bring my Astro City Mini to Universal Orlando (I play it when I'm getting a drink at Finnegan's or at CityWalk), people find it very cool to see Virtua Fighter in action. One guest even mentioned that if not for Virtua Fighter, Namco's Tekken wouldn't have existed.

That would be nice, but very few people would buy it. And even then, even fewer people would play it competitively for long. SEGA knows this. No one cares about Virtua Fighter, not even SEGA. If they did, they would've released Virtua Fighter 6 YEARS ago.
@@shinbakihanma2749 that is true. But the current state of things is different than it was few years back. Sony secured major exclusivity of e-sports fighting arena, and now VF5 is appearing exclusively on PS consoles. I think that Sega might be probing the opportunities here

I have gotten to know virtua fighter for 18 years now and it has been one of my most beloved favorite fighting game of all time for these last 2 decades. so now it is time for this to finally be way more recognized like never before.
i remember playing wolf in the arcade in 93 and shoulder ram my enemy for 3/4 for they life :) great video
One thing I've noticed about Virtua Fighter 1 is that some of the soundtrack is very similar to songs found in Outrunners, which was in arcades around the same time.

Sega you should bring back SIBA as a playable character. I think the two remaining spots in the select screen are for the dlc characters, probably Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima, but you should bring Siba too. The guy deserves.

I sold my SEGA collection back in the day for a PS2 and two games, Vertical Fighter 4, and Tecken 4. I have been trying to rebuy my collection back from my childhood.almost complete again. But I also aqiyered some new games in the process. I am a SEGA kid and always will be.
This game always gave me a challenge Dural along with the stage condition you fought her in proved to me she was one of the hardest bosses ever in my opinion
