Always remember to re-identify your neutral conductor when switching it to a 220. Lastly but most importantly, always keep your shop as clean as this guy. Great content! 👍🇺🇲

    Thanks so much. I was trying to wire a booster pump for a well that was 220. I couldn’t figure out where the neutral was supposed to go and it was confusing because the motor plate labeled one of the load lines as neutral. I see now that is only the case if I were to select the lower voltage. Im glad I figured it out by watching your video. I wasn’t about to create a direct short just because of the label, but it was driving me crazy trying to figure out where to put the neutral. Thanks again for clearing the issue up for me.

      It depends if you have 110V or 220V, you need to confirm the voltage on each wire before doing so. If you are 220V, you need two hot wires and a ground. If you are 110V, you need one hot wire, a neutral and a ground. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks Mark for the great video! I've got a 220V pump with electrical coming underground to the "pump house". It's 3 wires coming in, so two hots (red/black) and a ground (hopefully - this is a white). Is there a way to tie into this supply for a new 110V receptacle? I understood from your video that there are two 110V supplies to choose from, but I get lost a bit when thinking about tying in because of the lack of a neutral coming in. Appreciate any help!

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  Рік тому

      I would recommend that you test the supply line with a volt meter, this way you will know what you have. Usually green is ground and neutral is white, if you are trying to go 110V you will need a neutral. If you are not sure on the hook up you can always contact an electrician. Thanks for watching.

A couple years ago I installed a pentair 1.5 horse variable speed. If I turn it wide open it cavatates . Do I need more back pressure or is this happening because of the lack of water supply or possibly both?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  2 роки тому

      Most motors can be converted from 110v to 220v, However when you wire your motor it has to be wired in accordance to the feed coming in. If you don’t know if you are high voltage or low voltage, then you can use a volt meter. If you want to change the feed you can but it also depends on the type of pump you have (single speed , dual speed, or variable speed) you would want to talk to an electrician, if not, work with what you have.

    My Pentair pool pump has a green wire from the case on the outside but is not connected. I recall my old pump had a wire to my pool screen frame. Should I have this green external wire connected to something?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  3 роки тому

      The green wire is the grounding wire. This is connected to a grounding lug.

    We had a fire in our electric panel. We had it fixed but now we are not sure if the pool motor corresponds to a double pull 30 or a double pull 20. We had the pump tested (at Leslie’s) and it runs great . Any chance you can help us figure it out?

    Mark, I have a 115 volt pump that I want to replace a 230 volt pump. I have the 115 V pump on hand and this is for a water feature so hoping to use what I have rather than having to buy anther pump. Can I use the 115 V pump i have and just change wiring to accommodate?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  2 роки тому

      Yes, if your motor allows you to change from 115V to 230V then you can use it. Make sure you check the horsepower on both motors.

    Question.. I replaced my spa pack(balboaBP7) and hve 2 pump sys 1 pump 2 spd) 2nd pump 1 spd)230v when I ordered my amp cords I didnt realized when I started to replace them that both cords have 14/4 wire instead of getting 1-14/4 & 1-14/3...1st pump ok with 14/4 , will the 14/4 cord work on the 1 spd pump ?
    I am not getting the 1 spd(high) to kick on. Does the Position of the wire going in on the amp cord male plug make a diff being plugged in the board? I did tape off the red wire and only hooked up the blk& wht & grd I assume that blk went on "Line" and wht to "4" according to my diagram. 1-on top-"line" to right at top) 3 is accross left from that "line") 4 is under 1 5 is accross under 3 hope this gives a pict of my pump(emerson) I'm thinking it has something to do with the 14.4 cord and the wire position going in to the Amp plug to get my other jets firing sorry for the long winded I think my best bet is to order a 14/3 cord because I don't think the being plugged in to the bord and it not read it correctly

    I have 110 now but will change to 220. Inside the panel its black to breaker white to bus bar and ground to ground. Does it stay the same for 220 or both black and white ti breaker ?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  Рік тому

      If you disconnect the white wire from the bus bar and put both white and black wires on the breaker you will have 220. However, the breaker needs to be a double pole breaker.

    Hi Mark, I replaced the old 230V pump with a 115V with high and low speed, how do I wire it?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  Рік тому

      Refer to the schematic on the motor, every motor is different. Verify the supply line you are working with, most motors can run 220V or 120V once they have been converted. Thanks for watching.

    My Hayward 1hp super pump needs to be replaced after 5 years . I’m replacing it with another same pump and discovered that the guy who installed it wired nutted the neutral and hot wire to the test lines which should have been removed. I’m wondering if that’s why it didn’t last long.
    The old pump was set for 230v 1hp, so I thought I should have the new one set to 115 v but it would set the breaker and turn off. Is it okay to run the pump at 230v… is it going to get damaged?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  7 місяців тому +1

      You have to wire the pump according to the feed or supply that you have. If you have 230 volts coming in then you have to wire the motor for 230 volts. If you have 115 volts coming in then you have to wire the motor for 115 volts. If you don’t wire the motor properly you can damage the motor. Thanks for watching.

      It depends, if you are 115 volt then run 12/2 wire white,black and green. If you are 220 volt, then you need to hard wire (no cord) using two black and a green or black, red and green.

    The replace pump I bought does not have that switch only has three ports, one white wire port, one with a red and brown wire and the last port a black wire. My wiring that I’m using has black, white and green for 220. Would I connect black to black port, white to the red and brown port, nothing to the white port, and ground to the ground green screw?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  Рік тому

      You need to check the schematic on the motor. For 220v you will have two hot wires and a ground. You should put one hot wire to L1 (line 1) and the other hot wire on L2 (line 2). Your green wire goes on the ground. Thanks for watching.

      No voltage on the white wire.
      It's just connected to a GFCI breaker in a pool pump panel.
      The GFCI breaker will trip (in case of a fault).
      The power for the contactor coil goes through it as a Safety device.
      230v power is supplied by a 2 pole breaker at the house panel.
      Red and Black wires with a green.
      From the house panel to the pool pump panel. It's a pre-wired panel that the previous owners abandoned in place and installed a smaller 115v pump with extension cord.
      The pump panel has no schematic but I traced out every wire and made one. Just helping out a neighbor.
