- Welcome to our first-time reaction to episdoe 5 of Loki Season 2! This episode was such a rollercoaster! Loki seems to be time slipping again! He uses this at his advantage to assemble the TVA team back. This was fantastic because we got to see the lives of the members of the TVA before they even knew what the TVA was.
We got a glimpse of Mobius who was just a simple guy in love with jet skis and a father of two. Cassey was actually one of the prisoners in Alcatraz whom mysteriously disappeared! And B-15 was a doctor.
The multiverse is collapsing even further and we got to see an entire timeline be spaghettified. But nothing could prepare us for what Loki learned to do in this episode.

It's interesting that Casey would be Frank Morris, one of only three people (the other two being the brothers that were with him) to have potentially successfully escaped Alcatraz. An escape so daring that they've made several movies about it. Because Frank Morris reportedly had a genius level IQ, and Casey having almost entirely memorized the TVA guidebook speaks to that. We don't know why Loki remembers, but as for Sylvie remembering everything, things she said, to me implied that she used her HWR TempPad to dip out back to her accepted timeline before whatever that temporal wave was had hit. Also, now I'm curious as to whether all of them were really variants that had nexus events and were subsequently kidnapped or is Loki closing another loop of how they were recruited to the TVA in the first place? Because otherwise, I cannot fathom what their nexus events might even have been. How could these otherwise mundane people have made a critical life choice so radical that it split a timeline in two?
They are in fact saying that Loki was the reason this crew of people ended up at the TVA. Due to this OB he also created the TVA, Tempads and technology. Then the multiversal war happened and HWR took over the TVA after that and erased everybody's memories. And then we start back at Loki s1 ep 1.
So my theory, or understanding is. Sylvie remembers, first because she's not a TVA employee. So when the loom essentially resets, why would she be reset with it? But she's also a Loki who like you said has a tempad and has Kangs. So even if she would have been reset, your possibly right and she dipped out of there before she could. Now for Loki, I genuinely think it's because they pulled him out of the timeline, but also because he is 'he who remains', and it's because he gains the understanding and ability to literally step outside of time itself. He not only moves around in time freely, but also in and out of different timelines, arguably different multiverses/aka branches... How do you even touch that 😅
I always love it when Marvel gets a bit horror. I'm a big horror enthusiast, so it gives me thrills.
Man they got to get on the supernatural side of Marvel! Marvel has a lot to pull from if they want to go more horror in certain projects. They just have to go for it!
WOW!! The writers for this season so far are killing it! and the cinematography!!!! Im loving how Loki is creating pretty much is creating paradoxes too! Like giving the blueprint to the time pad to the creater of the time pad!. Gosh this episode was wild! And Denise I 100% agree Loki is honestly the best written character in the MCU especialy with how they have written him on his show.
Right!? We saw the origin of not just the TVA but the technology that would make Kang such a threat which is the time pad. The time pad is just a proto version of Kangs time chair and it looks like O.B was the man who made it all possible to begin with!
Loki the show has propelled Loki into one of my fav mcu characters ever. He’s an extremely deep character, Loki reminds me a lot of myself just without wanting to take over the world & be “god of space” the Loki in this current timeline I guess not Loki in general
The level of character development is just perfect. The more we get to know him the more we like him and realize just how much growth he’s gone through with these adventures.

I loved the part when Loki finally admits that he just wants his friends back.
The tremble in Loki’s voice when he says …”but without them, where do I belong?”… Tom always brings his acting A game, but he really killed it in this episode.
Next week the finale and The Marvels in theaters!!! Hopefully the MCU can end the year on a high note and come back stronger next year.

That trying scene was reminiscent of Maui trying to relearn how to shape shift when he got his hook back…

Loki is really OP now! I read somewhere that he could be the most powerful being in the marvel multiverse right now, right under "The One Above All" because he is "The God of Stories" now (presumably) he can rewrite the story 🤯

It’s looking more and more like he’ll become the God of Stories and that would be fantastic! We still have yet to see him in his iconic green! And we know that’s gonna show up by the finale. Loki is gonna go full on God in the next episode. Anything can happen now!

I personally think this is the MCU's way of saying tha Loki is no longer the god of trickery But is now the God of stories. His time sleeping was a power that he manifested in the comics when this happened. Hoping that's the case here, because that would mean we have the opportunity to meet a new variant of Loki from the comics that couldn't exist until he became the God of stories: Teen Loki.
Would love to see more variants of Loki! The way this show handles reveals like that is fantastic!
Oh please not a "teenage Loki". For one, we've already seen "Kid Loki" in Season 1 at the End of Time. And secondly, teenage character usually ruin a plot, and thirdly, I have zero interest in a live-action Loki who isn't played by Tom Hiddleston but by some teen actor. No.
@TF2CrunchyFrog Teen loki was one of the defacto leaders of the young Avengers in their most recent iteration. I grew up on the young Avengers comics and to followed the storylines of every character that has been a member of that team. When tom hiddleston retires They will introduce him. Not before. That's my prediction

This episode was so interesting in terms of character development, not only for Loki who admited he has been selfish but also for Casey, Mobius, B15, OB and Sylvie.
I loved the some of them were obvious by us like Mobius selling jet skis or OB teaching physics and writing sci-fi books; and others weren't obvious like Casey been a prisoner or B15 as a doctor.
Yesss!! It was honestly such a thrill to see what their lives looked like - wonderful but also heartbreaking in a way!

loki isnt the reason mobius originally joined the tva, its not a perfect constant loop, everything thats happening is still happening for the first time

I totally have that theory too!! I 100% think that this episode is implying if not albeit telling us, that Loki is literslly the reason these specific people are in the TVA. Like I think he literally is their nexus event. Ive commented about this on another video i think, but think about. When Loki first came to the TVA, only these specific people had actual names. The rest of them had like badge numbers. B-15, X-5... So why do these select few have actual names? I think Loki literally named them, after their TVA selves. Whats the first thing he does when he meets these people when they're reset back to the timeline. He calls them by the names he met them as, and tells them thats their name. So when they end up in the TVA, thats why they have actual names. And B-15 is B-15, because Loki literally met her as B-15. So to him, her name is B-15. Mobius is mobius, Casey is Casey, and Ouroboros/O.B is... you get the picture. I genuienly think Loki is definitely completing the loop, he was their nexus event and he is why theyre in the TVA. They were always meant to be there to help him, essentially ascend. Just like Timely was goven the TVA book, and went on to inspire O.B to write the TVA book, Loki give Ouroboros his own TVA book and he then creates the very first Tempad. Time is one giant mobius strip, just around and around it goes. A snake eating its own tale. Loki was always meant to plant yggdrasil at the end of time, which is also the beginning of time, and create the multiverse. Breathing literal life into the universe(the branches/timelines). Like what the hell even is this show. Its absolutely phenomenal 🙌
You should do more stop-motion movies. You can start with my childhood Aardman Studios (yes it's claymation, but it's practically the same thing innit?). Wes Anderson's stop-motion flicks are worth a watch too. Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie are great as well. But whatever you do, you HAVE to watch the Laika movies. It is just fascinating to see them unravel.
No lie, I have had spaghetti and McDonald's since this season began. I'm not ashamed to say ot was partially because of this show. 🍝 🍔🍟🥤

Edit: React to the Echo trailer…it looks good and it’s Tv-MA, but every MCU trailer looks good, so I hope the show is actually good, but for now it looks dope and it has Kingpin and Daredevil which they are going to carry a lot so.
We’re currently working on the next few upload so we were tight on time. We checked out the trailer though. It looks good but then again like you mentioned most marvel trailers do. I’m making sure to keep my expectations at normal levels and hey! If the show surprises us then great job but honestly we’re not expecting much. It’s coming out in January (filmmakers graveyard) they cut out an entire episode because it just didn’t work and then decided to release the whole thing in one go. Disney loves squeezing every bit of profit from everything so this move tells us they don’t believe in it either. Hopefully they’re wrong and we do get a good show!

I think them dropping every episode together is just an experiment. Let's just hope they can deliver and that it's good.

It is a bit of a long show, but it's a great one: Barry. You don't have to react to it, you can just watch it privately. Same goes with Ted Lasso, another great show.

OB talking about fiction and science, it occurred to me that they do actually live in a fictional universe, so fictional concepts or fiction itself is a legitimate aspect in their laws of physics. Maybe redundant thought, but interesting.

So this is what I was on about. They keep quoting He Who Remains.
"Every step you took to get here, I paved the road." This episode opens with this.
Backtracking. There was an event "at some point in time" that caused branched timelines" All of this was orchestrated by He Who Remains somehow. Also the creation of the TVA. Most of it's members were "taken from their original timelines". Their primary was to prune these branched timelines because they were a threat to existence itself. Loki variants in particular were a problem that needed to be dealt with.
End of first season and season two. An event occurs in time causing branched timelines. Loki as we know him finds himself "time sliding" and we are shown appearing in multiple places in the timeline. Sylvia is still running about. Victor Timely, a deceptive and brilliant past variant of He Who Remains receives instructions in the past in order to steer him towards becoming He Who Remains. The event reaches it's apex and the TVA members are scattered to "their original timelines where they have lives" albeit truthfully just recently created. Loki seeks the reason he is doing this. "What is guiding him to what end".
So my theory is it is going to turn out they are creating what we saw in Season 1 here in Season 2, guided by He Who Remains yet unknowingly. These branched timelines in lives? This is when they first occurred and only appeared to be the past previously. This is the event where the timeline branched that threatened to destroy everything. Now Loki must create the TVA and in fact always had done so. With Victor appearing to have been destroyed but in fact, knowingly, positioned to become He Who Remains.

"You either… take over and my life’s work continues or you plunge a blade in my chest and an infinite amount of me… start another Multiversal War. And I just… end up right back here anyways. (CHUCKLES) Reincarnation, baby."

Pretty much the deal! He Who Remains already went through all of this. And who knows just how many times since it is a loop. The big reveal is that it seems Victor is not a variant but Prime Kang in a way. He’s the original necessary version that needed to die the way he did. And now it seems like Loki was the original founder of the TVA in a way. It looks like it’s origins was benign as he built the team in order to save all of the timelines. So at what point does He Who Remain come back to control the narrative. This show is doing an excellent job with the conversation of free will Vs predestination

What a twist huh! This all but confirmed that Loki recruited some of the members of the TVA we’ve been following. He’s already showing signs of being a great leader.

When all of this resolves, (if Loki doesn't need to sacrafice himeself), he could go back to present-day, sacred timeline, New Asgard and reunite with Brunnihilde, possibly Thor, and the rest of surviving Asgardians. It would be an awkward reunion, but nothing new there.
That would be the happiest of endings I guess. One can only hope!
As far as the origins of Mobius, B-15, Casey...I would have thought that they were handpicked by He Who Remains based on them having a similar occuption. I picture Mobius as a police detective who rode jet skis while not on duty; and hunters like B-15, D-90, etc as SWAT or prison correction officers, with everyone else being DMV or VA hospital clerks (beaucracy type jobs). I thought for sure B-15 would be an experienced prison guard with the way she (as a human) manhandled Loki at the beginning of Season 1.
I love that B-15 became way more tender with her treatment towards others after Sylvie showed her who de truly was. Now it makes sense to us as well. That’s why she defends the timelines from being pruned. She took an oath as a doctor!

Ohhhh and couldn't Loki rebuild the tva by slipping back and forward in time, around OBs workshop in that branched timeline, as the universe ends it'll end up outside of time, the core staff are recruited... Once he gives up trying to save the old one... Death and rebirth cycle of Loki.
There are rumors Marvel is bringing back the OG Avengers for secret wars… I wanted them to move forward and bring in new characters but now… now I need to see this version of Loki interacting with them. With Thor!
I think that has to happen at some point! Loki reuniting with Thor and them both seeing how far they’ve come is too good of a payoff to ignore 😃

27:00 Maybe I'm misunderstanding you two, about 2018 Loki and 2014 Loki being two different people, they are the same person from different times--Mobius showed Loki his whole story in the Time Theater in season one and when Loki argued that the things he was being shown wasn't his life, Mobius assured him that he was indeed watching his life's story and that those things just hadn't happened to him yet. 2018 Loki and 2014 Loki are the same Loki Variant from the same 616 Universe in the Sacred Timeline.
29:04 Did we see the real stories of Casey, B15, Mobius and OB? 1962 California was a Branched Timeline, 2012 New York was a Branched Timeline, 2022 Ohio was a Branched Timeline, 1994 California was also a Branched Timeline. Branched Timelines are alternate stories, the ones created from Nexus Events and later erased from existence by the TVA. We've seen enough from Phase Four to know that universes in the Multiverse rhyme, but we've also seen enough to know that the stories told aren't 100% the same either--Sylvie & Loki as well as the three Peters from No Way Home are good examples of how similar yet different a variants story can be.
Still, Mobius did have a love for personal watercrafts back in season one, so there is that, but you have to wonder if these branched timelines are creations of things they wanted to experience. B15 did see her life, but unfortunately we don't know what she saw. If we had, we could likely confirm that what we're seeing here was indeed their actual lives before the TVA.
Are all TVA personnel people from Branched Timelines, the alternate universes that had to go? We all imagine Kang to be an evil and powerful person, but is he really? Loki started off being evil, but look at him now. The Loki we see now is a changed man, and he's doing everything he can to be better, to do better. Is that a similar journey HWR had? If we consider these past stories to be true for the TVA staff we know, it would certainly look like HWR gave them all a second chance, a chance to do something extremely important, safeguarding the entire existence of all time and space everywhere. Casey was a criminal, OB was an unhappy professor, Mobius was a struggling single parent of two. B15 seemed to be the only one with a good life, and according to what she said in season one, her life was beautiful, so her story would appear to add up. Still, if you look at the other members of the TVA they were all down on their luck, so maybe B15 was too or would later be. Did HWR erase their memories to make it easier on them? Brad might have actually been an actor, and it would appear that all TVA's on some level, still hold on to a little part of the person they once were--Casey's cart in season one had a collection of Infinity Stones; was he hoarding them or actually cataloging them? The flashback Miss Minutes showed Ravonna did show HWR apologizing for what he just commanded his PA to do.
Kang likely won't be the Kang we know in the comics, well, he's been rewritten a couple of times, but in any case, he won't be evil for the sake of being a villain heroes need to fight, right? We already know HWR consolidated the Multiverse into the Sacred Timeline to better watch over it, and that he created the TVA to erase the Multiverses' many attempts to course correct their stories via Nexus Events and prevent his own birth because he can't bear to expose the Multiverse to his chaos all over again. But is that the whole story of why he did what he did? Why is time on a loop? The end of time, a date we do not know, is connected to the beginning repeating the events over and over again. What is HWR keeping at bay? What is he keeping the universes from experiencing? Is he holding back Galactus? MCU's Galactus will probably do more than eat planets, right? Kang can destroy entire universes, so you'd think they'd have to up the ante here with planet eater Galactus, right? I'm getting way ahead of myself, lol. It's probably best to stay on this story that is just ramping up.
This was another great story, and I agree with you about this episode resembling the Infinity War. OB's Spaghettification reminding me of Nick Fury's dusting. Mobius's reminding me of Peter's and B15 reminding me of Star-Lord's. I also like how Sylvie's story continues to resemble 2014 Loki's story. Sylvie seems to be where Loki was during 2013 (the Dark World) to 2017 (Ragnarok). Odin wanted Thor to be King of Asgard, and we all know Thor didn't want to do that--he still doesn't--he loves being its protector, and he's still looking for the meaning of life, it would seem. Loki freed Thor of his duty under the guise of their father, and Loki stepped in and ruled peacefully in Thor's absence. Slowly but surely, Sylvie's story as a Loki is following the same trajectory our Loki did. She already had her Battle for New York moment in season one when she made the choice to kill HWR. You spoke about Loki having to possibly sacrifice himself again at some point...what if it is Sylvie who has to? She's a Loki living out a Loki's story and she hasn't had that moment yet.
Loki apparently has the power to rewrite stories, but does he really? I think he's been able to do what he does because he's the only one chosen by HWR that actually wants to save what HWR built. Not only that, the TVA was saturated in temporal radiation, which I think is what's allowing him to Time Slip. If what I said about HWR is true, him giving agents at the TVA a second chance to make a better life for themselves, perhaps he's done the same for our two favorite Loki Variants too. This episode started with a recap of him saying that he paved the road for them to get where they were. He needs both Lokis to be in the right state of mind to understand what's at stake, and they are getting there, fast!
I cannot wait for next week! Let's go!

Interesting point you’re making. It comes down to a philosophical point of view. Are we truly the same person without experiencing the things we experienced in life? Is knowing enough? Simply put yes he technically is the same person. But when he left the 2012 timeline he became a variant. He branched off as the og Loki continued the story that we saw originally. That Loki died at the hands of Thanos. That Loki is truly dead. But this Loki though being the same person (until he grabbed the space stone and teleported) is technically a different Loki. One that learned from his mistakes much quicker and before they even happened. If the TVA wasn’t outside of time this Loki would still be living in the early Marvel days before Age of Ultron. But since they’re super smart with their writing and he’s outside of time it doesn’t matter because he can see beyond and way back what we’ve seen as an audience of the sacred timeline. I know it’s a small detail that really doesn’t matter but it kinda does. There’s nuanced there in this Loki being able to redeem himself since he saw his previous goal “purpose” was too small for what he was actually meant for.
Love love love the point you made. Yes, absolutely. Sylvie could very well be that Loki that does the sacrifice. Maybe it’s both of them? We haven’t explored it yet but Sylvie as a variant is very special. Having a variant of the opposite sex is not as common as we’d assume. Basing ourselves on what we’ve seen so far we’ve only seen Loki and Spider-Man have these variants. But it seems like all variants share the same temporal aura. And when paired up with more people that aura expands. They told this for a reason. We could very well see both Loki’s making a sacrifice. One to hold the multiverse together while the other ensures the loop continues. Who knows what could happen!
When it comes to what you mentioned about the TVA and us perhaps not seeing the real life they had. I don’t think that matters. At least in the sense that Loki is connected to these specific variants. I don’t think we’ve ever met prime Mobius or B-15 and so on. So they don’t matter to us the audience. We care for our own Mobius and it looks like this indeed was his life. Maybe he’s not the original sacred timeline version of Mobius but he is the version we’ve gotten to know all this time. What they’re doing here is really clever. They’re having us become attached to alternate timelines so that when secret wars comes along we actually mourn people dying in branched timelines because we got to know them. Why would we care otherwise?
Marvel is planning ahead with this one. And their writing is on point!

You know, it's interesting you say that because Multiverse of Madness took all of the character development for Wanda and threw it in the trash, which home was really frustrating for me (Denise). We wished so many times that the shows brought more to the main storyline, so hopefully this season of Loki does that!
Spaghettification not a word 😂😂 I love Loki's progression, but Sylvie on the other hand is proven wrong in this episode. He Who Remains warned them about this, that without the TVA everything burns. But Sylvie being selfish just wanted to wander off on her branch, not caring about anything else. Loki kept coming to her asking for help and she never wanted to help until it affected her timeline. I'm glad it finally caught up with her in this episode, she couldn't escape cause the destruction affected her timeline. I think it will be interesting if Loki ends up having to stop Sylvie from killing him in the first place.

I always thought that would be another scenario for the conclusion of the show. Having them go through the same thing again and making another choice. I honestly think Loki would be a great He Who Remains. He cares for the well-being of the timelines. And yes spaghettification is a real word believe it or not. And it’s theorized to be one of the most painful deaths ever. You’d feel everything and relieve the moment as you spiral and stretch into the black whole. At the same time…time dilation makes sure those seconds feel like an eternity. Sounds terrifying 😂😅
