He’s been hurt before is a valid one because that’s how men tend to respond if they’ve been through some sort of emotional trauma in a relationship before.

These are signs not of afraid men, but men who are not healthily grounded. Whether because they are avoidant, narcissistic, not in a good place, etc. someone who goes off radar without explanation is not attuned to the feelings of others.
