"His hatred made him ugly on the inside." I'd say some rather viscous claw scratches helped things along as well.

This video was totally brilliant. Going in, I expected it to just be about Rocket so I was very pleasantly surprised by how in depth you went with all of the characters and themes. I felt like your analysis was spot on, and the video was super well put together, it was a great watch :)

incredible analysis! i loved the connections you made between GOTG and Frankenstein. GOTG vol. 3 was so deeply saddening to me, and viewing that in tandem with Frankenstein’s monster perpetuates that sadness. these creatures did not asked to be created, but they are neglected and abused by their creators. we see nature vs. nurture play out in the story of Rocket and the creature. they forged their paths based on their experience. and both tales are so powerful and need to be explored more. well done!

I'm a big rewatcher. I rewatch movies, series, and videos, even when they're very long (like HBomberguy's plagiarism video), over and over. I love discovering new things, but I often feel like revisiting something I already know is very good. I'll definitely rewatch this video.

I dunno why I haven’t checked this one out yet. It was really, really well thought out. I read Frankenstein my senior year, and this video definitely brings to light things I didn’t know or didn’t remember. Loved GOTG3, and the comparison is really cool, especially with the relationships of people outside of Rocket’s obvious connections with the creature. This was really, really cool. Also bravo on the edit, I know this was probably a beast of a video. Again, really cool! Glad I caught this one. Surprised this isn’t one of those vids that gets recommended like crazy and becomes a most-viewed vid, seems primed for it especially with the length and subject matter. Really well done! Can’t wait for what’s next this year.

I wonder if James Gunn was thinking of these things as he was writing the creature commandos show, which literally has a Frankenstein character i it. he might be drawn to characters with frankenstein ish qualities to them

Excellent analysis! Frankenstein is one of the quintessential literary works, and you made some compelling comparisons to GOTG3.
On a side note, if Frankenstein got a new film adaptation, who do you think would be the perfect Director for it?

'a sci fi retelling' as if frankenstein isnt literally the first sci fi story

@@RoughestDrafts"An intergalactic retelling of Frankenstein" would be more appropriate.

It seems to me the key difference between the two characters is that Rocket received love from multiple quarters, while Frankenstein's monster didn't. That was the core tenet of the monster, that no matter where he went or what he did, he never got the acceptance that a human being needs to feel connected to the rest of humanity. I know you mentioned this distinction between the two, but it seems to me the singular point of the Frankenstein story, and the very essence of why GoTG3 was written as a metatextual descendant of Mary Shelley's book.
This seems like a theme that comes up again and again. One of the biggest hit shows of last year was Blue Eye Samurai, the story of a mixed-race woman in Edo period Japan, who self-identifies as a monster because no one in her world has ever seen her as anything else. She has moments of mercy and even benevolence, but for the most part, her story is a single-minded quest to avenge herself against the man she thinks must be her father, and the majority of her actions are anything but altruistic. She's as much an outcast as Frankenstein's monster.
Your discussion here covered many of the same ideas as discussions about the character. Someone commented with an African proverb, "A child abandoned by their village will burn it down to feel its warmth." It quite literally summed up the story of Mizu, the blue-eyed swordmaster on her mission of revenge. I thought it apropos for this discussion as well.
