- Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, releases a video with Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee, entitled, “Denial, Disinformation, and Doublespeak: Big Oil’s Evolving Efforts to Avoid Accountability for Climate Change.”
The video follows the release of a joint staff report produced by the Budget Committee and House Committee on Oversight and Accountability as part of a multi-year investigation and the unveiling of new documents that expose the fossil fuel industry’s role in spreading climate disinformation and preventing action on climate change.

Greed is going to kill us all if not held accountable
Greed has a loud voice unfortunately.
Yet I myself drive a gas powered vehicle and it is very likely that oil will be around as a product well beyond my life time. USA is completely dependent on oil in our portfolio of energy mixes. We haven't transitioned yet to anything else. Wars have been fought by US soldiers to protect oil as a national interest. This isn't just about greed. Many nations around the planet understand that oil is a societal life-blood until we can find something better.
@@morpher44 your life time will be limited by the continual use of fossil fuels. We already have multiple solutions to convert away from the last dependency. Look at your projection. How long did it take for oil to replace steam? Or coal? How long did it take to electrify the cities? You think.in terms of decades down

Whitehouse is coming from the Senate; Raskin is in the House and a recent cancer survivor, making Whitehouse the better candidate to lead the ticket…plus Raskin is the ideal person to have the tie breaking vote in the Senate, should the body remain split and need to be kept in check with rationality and logic.

I worked for Big Oil in Houston back in the 80s-90s. I delivered stock results every day to the top executives at what was once called Pennzoil (which is now part of Shell). I'll never forget the office of the CEO. It was two stories of glass with a mezzanine on the top two floors of the trapezoidal Pennzoil building downtown. The secretary sat at a vast glass desk held up with two three-foot-tall purple amethyst geodes. It was the most spectacular place one can possibly imagine. I always marveled at its beauty and what it must have cost. That one desk alone could have provided a year's worth of healthcare for the entire city of Houston.
I used to wonder what was in that building; now I know it was the lack of empathy for living beings.

The meters are not read individuallybut, at the end of a block that has 3 blocks on each side are fed numbers from the base home of Company & we are charged higher rates than what we actually use. I have a gas hot water heater, running that hot water heater runs me 230.00 a month when my usage shows only 3 units used.
Good we need more investigative work. We need to hold them accountable & stop doing business with China.

As a resident of a state which has an Exxon refinery, and someone who grew up and lived near the Exxon Refinery I can tell you Exxon has never revealed, to the community, that it was a supporter of climate change policy. Exxon has sponsored schools, for example, created magnet schools with programs towards refinery work, encouraging of those students working in the plants. But they never encouraged those students towards climate change only their old ways. If it were not for EPA, DEQ, and other regulatory agencies, Exxon would be out of control. It has been obvious that they have been part of "industrialism controlling govt", dark money schemes, MIC type politics, those that RW extremism would support. They have never revealed anything else to the community. We feel blessed when our Legislative Body passed a "carbon capture" law and are working toward more climate change goals for the state and the nation.
And when McDonald's gets out of hand, in a trump term, we will see elementary schools geared toward funneling students to the fast food workforce at an earlier age.
What a disaster ! Keep exposing them.

The key is a mass movement to reject the legal framework that grants corporations the same rights as people, which actually makes them MORE powerful than people due to the fact that they don't have the same vulnerabilities as people -- i.e., can't be imprisoned, don't get sick, don't die, don't have to breathe the air or drink the water, don't feel love and fear for their children.
