    Can you use it with gloves on?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  2 роки тому +1

      I tried it with Mechanix gloves and worked fine. It seems to be just pressure-sensitive, so I think as long as you can get a finger inside the slightly recessed circles it'll detect the touch. Definitely not like a touchscreen phone that gives trouble with gloves or doesn't recognize at all.

    My RV has 2 doors, would I run into any issues if I installed this lock on both doors?

      I don't think so. You can request Bauer to key them alike to your existing so you still only need 1 key. Each device has different ID via Bluetooth so you can just name one #1 and #2 or front and rear, etc.

    Nice video. Does it come with a fob as well? I don't understand why smart rv technology is so far behind. It shouldn't be so difficult to make your RV smart without having to do a bunch of hacks. There's only one smart thermostat option with wifi and one smart lock option that's only Bluetooth and no wifi. The industry really needs to get it together.

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  2 роки тому +2

      The Bauer does not come with a key fob, so just uses your phone's bluetooth connection as the fob essentially. There is another brand "RV Smart Lock" that has a key fob, but it only works with the built-in buttons on the remote to lock/unlock...no proximity functionality on that one. Agreed, RV industry seems very behind on tech and catching up for sure.

    I’m in the market for a keyless door lock. I see you did this UA-cam over a year ago.
    So are you still happy after a year? Are all technologies still working and have all the mechanical aspects still working smoothly? How about the keypad? Any water intrusion? I’m going to order soon so I hope you get this reply.
    Thanks,
    Larry

      Yes, in fact I bought it again on my new rig last summer. Basically the two big players are either the Bauer Smart Lock or RVLock.com version. The big difference between two is the Bauer has the Bluetooth/phone functionality and no keyless remote (keyfob), whereas the RVLock.com has no Bluetooth/phone connection, but comes with a small keyfob. I have not had any issues with either of my 2x Bauer keyless owned. They updated software where it'll stay open in background for Android, so that fixes the one software issue I mentioned. No issues with the keypad or water intrusion for me (my RV is parked in barn/covering when not in use). I think someone else replied in comments here about having issues with water on their motorized RV (similar lock model), but I have had no issues on mine. I think another huge reason to go with Bauer would be the keyed-alike benefit, especially if the rest of your rig already has Bauer locks...I prefer one key and only one key to keep up with. But, both brands are highly rated.

      @@AdventureRocks Thsnks for the detailed update. Water is a concern as my rig will be parked in an outside storage lot.( HOA won’t let me park at home.) But I still think I’ll go with the Bauer. Should I consider adding a silicon sealant to the outside edge of the lock?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  2 роки тому

      @@larrymccorkle3409 There's a gasket of sorts behind it, but I think I nice bead of sealant could only help as a 1st line of defense. Great idea. Bauer warranty is great to work with too...so if you have any issues I think they'll take care of you.

    Excellent video thanks for sharing. I just bought and installed one on my 5th wheel and I have to say you apparently are having better luck with the Bluetooth App than I. Despite keeping the app open, that is to say not completely closing out the app, it is erratic recognizing mine and my wife’s phones. We have the proximity activated and in the longest range. Often times in order for it to recognize the phone I have to take my phone out of my pocket and in lock the display. That seems to defeat the apparent convenience, so I gave up and removed the app from my Home Screen and just enter my code to unlock and lock which I can do faster than taking the phone out of my pocket and unlocking the display. Also the operation range is about half the distance you reported. Entering the code to lock and unlock works great and happy not to have to carry a key around or worry about locking my wife out,

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  3 роки тому

      I have noticed that they did an app update in the last few months for the Android version at least that causes it to stay open in the tray. So that helps keep it open longer until you force close it. Sometimes I do wish the range was just a little bit better by 5 to 10 ft or so. But I have noticed it can be tricky fine-tuning the proximity distance. And there is a delay for it to sense when you are within range. I wonder if it also varies based on different phone models too. I've come to appreciate the code entry though more than I thought I would as often times I forget to open the app and I just enter a code in for convenience.

    Is there some code that links your app with that particular lock set. Or can anyone download the app and break in?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  2 роки тому

      You have to have the code unique to your lock in order to securely pair via bluetooth. So kinda similar to pairing your phone to another computer, etc where you have to enter a code first.

    When you did the proximity test with your phone inside your rig, it looked like you had the the door in the unlocked position. However based on your previous comment the blue light wasn’t flashing when the door was in the unlocked position with the phone near it on the outside. Have you tried this test with the phone running the app on the inside and with the door lock, locked?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  3 роки тому

      That is my sloppy b-roll footage :) Apologies for the confusion. The results I got were mixed. Most of the tine it wouldn't unlock via proximity with the phone just inside the rig by door, but on a few ocassions it did. My thoughts...it's hard to imagine that they programmed it or shielded the signal in a way that would detect which side of the lock the phone is on, so that combined with the mixed results I got is why I was reluctant to believe for certain it works that way. Phone would have to be very close to door either way, so for me personally it's not a concern in the end. Hope this helps.

      @@AdventureRocks If you lock the deadbolt from the inside with the lever, can the door be opened from the outside, or is it secure? That's the only concern I would have with the proximity feature.

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  3 роки тому

      @@flyinandy8347 Not in my experience...the proximity feature works regardless of how it was last locked, manually or via app/proximity. Kinda makes sense as folks may want to use it that way where another family member is already inside and a second one outside intending to unlock via paired phone. For me, given the size fifth wheel and that I'm rarely standing that close to my door inside the fifth wheel, with my phone on me and the app open/active I'm okay with how it functions. Plus, I can simply close the app on my phone once I'm in for the day/night and then proximity feature is disabled completely till I reopen the app. My experience on my Pixel 4 XL is Android has task mgt built-in that closes unused apps after a while. App has to be open/running in bkg for proximity to work...not necessarily current app on your screen, but opened in your recent apps and running in bkg. So my experience on my Pixel 4 XL is that Android closes the app out automatically after inactivity. I've never timed that period, but I'd guess within 30 min or so of not using the app it closes out by itself? Hope this helps.

    Does anyone know if there is a smart lock you can lock/ unlock from 3,000 miles away? Additionally I don't really want to carry around another fob. Can I use a smartphone.

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  2 роки тому +1

      Not yet, but the tech is getting close. The challenge is the lock would need to be connected not just to WiFi, but to a port forwarding/DNS service to work anywhere. However, on the Bauer lock the nice benefit is that you don't need another keyfob. It uses your smartphone as the keyfob. That's why I like it personally over other models. Hope this helps!

    How simple is it to change the code? And/or, can you impute multiple codes?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  3 роки тому +1

      Pretty straightforward. Just a series of button presses/holds after the current code is entered. As far as I know you can only store one code, but you can pair up to 6 separate smartphones via bluetooth. This lock is one of my favorites. The bluetooth and close field technology are a game changer. Only improvment...I wish the bluetooth range was just a little bit longer. Usually it's 30-40 ft in my testing, but 50-60 ft or so would be ideal.
