I hear so much crap about ICBC, probably the only reason why I'm glad to be in Ontario. I don't get how they can justify that call when the incident was clearly caught.

@@vancouversworstdrivers It happened to my friend a few months ago. She was parked on the side of the road and sitting in it. Some Uhaul van side swiped her. She called ICBC and was told that she has to pay the deductible first and if the other driver reports the accident they'll refund her the money. ICBC is such a rip off man.

Great channel and thanks for sharing. I apologize for the rant but driving is one of my all-time favorite activities that I take very seriously. I started driving in 1970 and have been fortunate enough to have done some motocross, stock car, and rally racing. I have driven well over a million miles in 24 different countries around the world and have lived in Vancouver since 2004. Vancouver drivers are some of the worst drivers I have ever encountered. And by worst, I mean, a complete lack of driving skills and utter ignorance of traffic laws. I have seen much more aggressive drivers, on both coasts of the US, Europe, the Middle East, and others. Lawless drivers in Kenya(demolition derby anyone?), India, Mexico, and many other places. We have had 4 hit-and-run accidents and more parking lot damage(nobody leaves a note) since moving to Vancouver than in any place I have lived and I have lived in 12 different states in the US. I would have been in many, many more accidents here without the defensive driving skills I have been lucky enough to develop. I also had to retire after an unlicensed, uninsured asshole driving a dump truck, ran a red light, t-boned me and left me in the hospital for 6 months, lucky to be alive. I am still recovering after multiple surgeries, staph MRSA infection and various joint replacements. It's such a shame and so dangerous that people can't take driving seriously enough to properly learn how to and improve their driving skills! It's obviously way to easy to get a driver's license in Canada.

ICBC should 100% do an investigation and take a paint sample from both vehicles to see if they match where the damage occured. They have the license plate # and the identity of the driver. With that much evidence i feel like they are obligated to do so.

Hello, I am the victim in this situation. From what VWD said, that was what I was told by my ICBC Adjuster when we were first discussing the claim. I did not hear back since then, but the other day I received a call from my adjuster stating that the driver still did not admit fault, does not know what they're talking about. They ultimately decided to waive my deductible after all, which is good to hear. But it's ridiculous how I have all of this proof, yet nothing much is going to happen to the driver. Just thought I would explain the result of the situation.

    • @kellynnd5361

1:38 in this case, and it's happened to me. ICBC had the person who I gave the license plate for and made them come in so they could look at the vehicle and confirm that the damage was their fault. I didn't even have video proof, but they took measurements of the vehicles to make sure it lines up. Also, if they don't come in when summoned, it is usually ICBC who sides with the person claiming the damage.

Always follow the 'four flash rule'.... If your signal can't flash four times in view of the other driver you are trying to get in front of, you should be getting in behind them. (Four flashes creates the time and space for them to react).
And if you have missed your safe opportunity to be in the lane you wanted, go around and come back the other way...

2:30 I am pretty sure Jackson's case was "initially" led to believe a "hit and run" case on the first call, hence the deductible, however, it won't be the case once the video/license plate is presented to ICBC. It takes some time for ICBC to receive the video and ICBC, I am guess, may have said "you MAY have to pay the deductible" as you just can't draw a conclusion before the investigation. 7:45 Ash, definitely pedestrians fault. a. He is not in the pedestrian lane. b. Pedestrian light just turn with flashing hand - no crossing. c. The vehicle is not able to do anything to avoid contact. *My personal opinion only.

Amusing, but not surprising. Vancouver driving started to circle the toilet bowl in the 80's ....I hate to say it, but this really began with the influx of Hong Kong residents leaving the colony before China took it back. I lived for year sin Vancouver riding an old Harley with crappy brakes, but I had learned long before that she lesson that all driver's want to target me exclusively, that has kept me alive. When living in N Burnaby in the early 90's a friend was visiting and his Chevy Blazer was hit by a driver who was stopped by his air bags going off...when the police arrived I overheard the conversation: RCMP: "how did you hit this vehicle? the street is well lit, there is a full moon and very few parked cars" Young Asian driver: "I only got my license two weeks ago, I don't know how to drive yet"....about two weeks after that the Richmond licensing office scam hit the papers over Asian drivers paying for a driver's license, without taking any tests. I moved away in the 90's and never wanted to live there again, and I was born there.

7:51 the pedestrian is in the wrong, not because he was not in the crosswalk, but because the pedXing light has already clearly turned to the red hand - which indicates the pedestrian MAY NOT BEGIN CROSSING. (yes that is what the law says!) - Motor Vehicles Act -
    Pedestrian controls
132 (1) When the word "walk" or an outline of a walking person is exhibited at an intersection by a pedestrian traffic control signal, a pedestrian may proceed across the roadway in the direction of the signal in a marked or unmarked crosswalk and has the right of way over all vehicles in the intersection or any adjacent crosswalk.
    (2) When the word "walk" or an outline of a walking person is exhibited at a place other than an intersection by a pedestrian traffic control signal, a pedestrian may proceed across the roadway in the direction of the signal and has the right of way over all vehicles.
    (3) When the word "wait", the words "don't walk" or an outline of a raised hand are exhibited at an intersection or at a place other than an intersection by a pedestrian traffic control signal,
(a)a pedestrian must not enter the roadway, and
(b)a pedestrian proceeding across the roadway and facing the word "wait", the words "don't walk", or an outline of a raised hand exhibited after he or she entered the roadway
    (i) must proceed to the sidewalk as quickly as possible, and
(ii) has the right of way for that purpose over all vehicles.

There should be alternative to ICBC in BC.

This is not Richmond. We don't have a 96th Ave, pluslots of the building are nowhere to be seen in Richmond.
Yes our drivers are crappy, but don't add the Surrey Drivers in the mix.

@8:31 God Damn Bike Lanes, they certainly contribute to Traffic Jams, and Longer Commutes,

In case with a Jackson, camera, unfortunately, does not record the fact of the scratch, that might be the cause why ICBC refused a claim. (you cannot see clearly a minivan touching a bumper)

It's a huge issue in Richmond. It has a very large Asian population and most of them pay to get their driver licenses. Claim they can't speak English and insist on an Asian tester. Then out comes the infamous red envelope to get them to pass them. It's very well known.

We are forced to buy vehicle insurance, and when the time comes to put a claim in, some drag it on for months, refuse to pay when it's clear who was at fault or come up with whatever excuse to deny. It's disgusting.
People who cause an accident, and then blame the other driver, are scum .
7:46 totally pedestrians fault. Driver sees no one at the crosswalk, then that guy dashes across while not using the crosswalk...driver is not a mindreader.

pedestrian is totally at fault. Red hand MEANS STOP STARTING TO CROSS. they do this to allow cars to start making the turn. Pedestrians keep crossing, police need to start giving out more J walking tickets for this. easy money.
