I highly recommend people with x90j to look up "keep it classy tech x90j settings" on UA-cam. Basically he found that on x90j model Sony has made a slight bump on the blacks which makes details in black look bit too grey. So he provides a quick fix without any tools to adjust 10 point calibration. Which makes blacks not too grey without crushing any details.. makes you think if Sony did it deliberately to make their other models stand out just a bit more...
@@loki76 But is is $1,300 superior (85"X900H vs 85"X950H)? To me, it is not. I'd rather have the bigger size and for my needs, it still gets the job done. Of course if I would have bought the 85X950H in the first place, I'd have the best of both worlds. HA!
Exchanged a x900H 85" for a x950H 85". Night and day, just night and day better. The HDMI 2.1 implementation is complete garbage on the x900H. Really happy with the swap, even though there are no HDMI 2.1 ports. I couldn't justify the difference in cost initially, but hands down worth it now.
only recently decided to learn more about tv's as i'm planning on upgrading to the first "non garbage" tv in my life. quick shout out to you guys, love your straight forward, transparent and professional approach. it feels like 95% of reviews on the internet these days are rigged or just placeholders for affiliate links and ads, so yea. good job.
This Sony is good but also check out a TCL or Vizio if you can find one in a store (Best Buy maybe?) . The price difference could get you a nice soundbar
@@MDonovan thanks for the tip and that'd absolutely be the first thing i'd do if i didn't live in europe. TCL and the like lack any good models over here. think it's going to be a x900h of last year. it's around 850$ right now (55'), seems to make most sense in that price range at the moment.
@@MDonovan Bro you can run Android TV ad-free. I much prefer X900h Android vs X90J Google, but the HDR improvements on the X90J are really nice. Not worth an upgrade though. UI is a straight downgrade from 2020 model
Thank you for your review, it really helps us to decide which TV to buy. We bought x900h at 30% bargain price since there are new J series now on the market.
@michael you musta missed the video..he literally said if ya can find a 900H at a bargain then the X90J might not be worth it considering their differences are only minimal.
To add to your point, if you don’t have both the x900h and x90j setup side by side at home, you wouldn’t even know the difference. Price difference is too high between the two so I’m also going with the x900h from Costco (x90ch - “c” is for Costco lol, literally).
Nice, just watched in 4k on my x900h, cudnt be happier with it, great picture it gets plenty bright, probably one of the better values in the sony lineup
Add couple of points in review for us. Plz. 1.) dark room/ bright room performance 2.) Remote sensitivity 3.) Any lag in terms of day to day task/app opening 4.) warranty Thanks
Got mine today! Playing call of duty feels alot different but haven't got the next gen console yet can't wait to see the difference. Haven't watched any 4k stuff yet ! Great Sound and the 65 looks massive in my room.
Different how mate. Don't forget to turn on game mode or you will have massive input lag which will feel horrible.. P.s. Watching 4k stuff should have been the first thing you do hahah.. It's been a few months by now but if you're looking for quality 4k HDR stuff. 1. UA-cam has great demos and videos 2. You can download / pirate some movies and stream them using plex, Windows or you can out them on a Hdd and watch them like that. 3. It's worth getting netflix 4k even if it's just for a month to test out their offerings. Esp their newer HDR stuff is fantastic. Weirdly nothing comes to mind right now aside from altered carbon which is a little older but one of the better HDR / Dolby Vision titles on netlflix. All netflix titles that released for the past 4 years or so are dolby vision HDR (except some foreign netflix originals)
@@H4ram it's a FALD display the picture will look really bad from an angle. It's important to have the picture at head hight and watch it sitting in the middle. I have had an x900f and now the x94j I can confirm it's a thing with both. The x94j is superior to my old x900f in many ways but one thing I really hate is how few local dimming zones it has. Because of this blooming is far more noticeable. Esp since Sony will prioritise picture accuracy over stopping blooming. Which makes no sense to me since exactly becauee of that blooming sometimes causes colours around bright objects to look faded etc. In games this is also noticeable. If you're in a semi dark area / inside the blooming will be noticeable Esp due to how large the dimming zones are. You'll be able to see dimming zones turn on as you pan through a dim room with bright objects. I know everything I've said so far is rather negative lol. But the TV is still fantastic. I wish there was a TV that was a mix between Sony, used Google TV like sony, supports dolby vision and also had the new Samsung mini led FALD. Can't believe Sony gives us a pathetic 24 dimming zones when the qn95a has 800 or so lol. Even my x900f had like. 50 or 60
@@H4ram honestly you have to get at a pretty wide angle for it to look bad. The tv looks really good I would highly recommend it, especially for ps5 gaming!
This is probably the most underrated TV of 2021, because on paper, it's not that great. I've compared it with the Q90A, the TLC 6 Series, the Vizio P Series Quantum, and the Hisense U8G, and while the Sony is technically inferior to all of them, it is actually the better TV. This comes down to Sony's processing, which just makes this TV look better. Additionally, their use of Google TV is just perfect. It made my nVidia Shield completely redundant due to how good the implementation is. Also, it has Apple HomeKit support, which allows me to control the TV and set HomeKit automations based on, and including the TV, and also to control the TV directly from my iPhone/iPad's Control Center without any additional apps. Beautiful. Well done, Sony! Disclosure, I returned a Hisense U8G for the Sony X90J, which I now own.
@@ambarghosh7433 If you look at the screens in person using scenes that aren't just gimicky test scenes, you'll realize that a TV's picture is more about its processing than its specs on paper. A perfect example is how this TV handles local dimming better than almost every other TV on the market, yet it has so few zones. As I said previously, the smart features are also a huge bonus for me. I have mine hooked up to Apple HomeKit, which allows me to do things like have the TV auto turn off when I leave home, or go to sleep, etc.
@@NeutralGenericUser I just ordered the 65in X90J & due to credits owed to me I got it for $779 & was very tempted to get the Samsung QN85A 55in for the same price but chose the sony not because of the bigger size but other features. But I still struggled over the QN85A. Less the 2 months ago I Bought a Sony 65in X95J & Have been in love but also struggled with that over the Samsung QN90A for the same price. My father in law has my 2000 model sony 51in rear projection tv & it's still going strong in his basement & it's in a man cave & the tv litterly never ever gets turned off. What amazing value out of that purchase. Lasted so long I had to give it away instead of junking it lol.
We've just bought the 55", and my god is it an upgrade. Previously we had a 43" 1080p Panasonic Plasma TV, which was at least 8 years old by this point, but the plasma really was a fantastic TV. The panel could get really bright, outdoing the indirect natural sunlight that would creep into the living room through the windows, and had a phenomenal contrast ratio, and all this was paired to a lowly Fire TV stick. It was a fantastic TV, and the only reason we got a new one was due to artifacts appearing on the panel. But enough about the Plasma, we got this thing for 106k INR, which translate to 1.4k USD. It sits 7.5 ft from our sofa, and we went for the 55" after referring to the rtings calculator. Overall, 55" is huge, but it's not as ginormous as we imagined considering it has no bezels, and the viewing experience really is very impressive (atleast in the context of this room). We had initially not even considered a TV of this level considering that we set out to spend roughly half as much as what we ended up spending and even looked through options such as the X80j, and the X85j, but neither of them were particularly fitting the bill considering the brightness on them, we were hunting for a decent color gamut and really good brightness, and that's where the X90j popped in. It works decently against the sunlight, but it does seem to reflect quite a bit of it, leading to some glare, but I won't go into too much detail about the tech considering rtings has done that already. There is a phenomenal difference between watching HDR and SDR on this TV considering the contrast ratio in HDR. In SDR, the blacks can be a little on the brighter side (nothing horribly bad), but can be a little unsightly if you view the TV from an angle, which I often like to do. The Google TV experience is great, and it is a ginormous upgrade over the puny fire tv stick. It is super smooth, but it does stutter once in a while, although this is more of a nitpick. Have not yet tried 4k HDR @ 120, considering nothing in this house is capable of driving the TV to that extent. Overall, it's a great TV with a certain set of flaws to account for. I do catch myself thinking how this costed a lot more than what we had spent on the Plasma, and the only real flaw on the Plasma was the Power consumption (600-700w!) and a bit of burn in (although this wasn't super terrible, image quality was fantastic till the day we gave it away. Another thing I sincerely miss on the older TV was the capability to swivel left and right, a fair loss. This could be fixed with a mount, but we're not really keen on mounting it at the moment. Wow this is a lot of text
Great to hear. Just bought the 50" version, because there was a great deal and the 55 was already sold out. I'm upgrading from an 40 lc550 Samsung from 2010. Gonna get it tomorrow. My gf bought a cx last year and it's kinda unbearable coming home to that tv. At least I have a reasonably good monitor.
@@mennovdwater9741 I think it's already too late for buying the X900H... in 6 months we will be on black friday and this X90J will be found at 800/900$ for 55" and 1000/1100 for 65". Sacrifying better contrast, better HDR brightness, better local dimming, smooth gradation, better color volume, perfect 4K 120 Hz and the higher chance to receive the VRR update, only for buying a TV 6 month earlier, seems dumb to me.
@@petrolhead9123 why not just get the Hisense U7G on Amazon. Already has VRR and is 4K@120 and 55 inch is $749. The 55 Sony X90J is literally twice the price lol $1,499. Also I liked your comment. But one thing to note. Last year the 55 inch never got bellow $879 or so. And it's MSRP was $300 less then the X90J at $1199. Don't expect the same this year. Prices are higher. Maybe $1,099 for the 55 in October or November and maybe Similar for the 65 inch. The 65 inch literally dropped to almost the same price at the 55 last year($979). I say 65 inch $1,199 October November.
@@Heliosvector wait you have a review of it? The U8G has a better Rtings rating then the Sony X90J. I trust them more then you. It's $949 already cheaper then the Sony. I'm unaware that anyone has reviewed the U7G which is $749.
4k 120hz in HDR specifically can exhibit banding in bright scenes (very bright sky's etc) in 2021 Sony TVs. Way better than last year, but still not perfect.
Hi classy, I like the X95J so much I jumped on a deal on the 65in X90J but almost did the Samsung QN85A at same price. Would you of some the same if you was in the same position? Thanks for thoughts
I’ve been looking for reviews on the new Sony televisions. I’m really interested in the X95J which will be out this summer sometime. Sony makes a good product and I’ve stuck with them for a long time. I feel the extra cash for the OLED models isn’t worth the extra money, they do have a great picture but you can rarely get that same picture at home. The 4K broadcasts are just not available from cable or satellite.
RTINGS lying again, look at this sony X90J VA panel blooming & clouding ua-cam.com/video/8QVkJBJSuBg/v-deo.html ADS it is better than VA, ADS it has the same black level with better color than VA
I just bought the 65in X95J less then 2 months ago & almost got the Samsung QN90A but went sony. Wow What a blessing to own. Beautiful TV. Like it so much I had to order another TV for other living space but couldn't afford another one as expensive so I ordered the 65in X90J witch will be replacing a 15yr old 40in samsung Flagship 1080p that still works great. The X95J caused me a bug that cost me even more $$.
Bought one because of all the great reviews, and they are right as it is an amazing TV. We don't care about gaming, justifies & TV. One problem I did have only affects a few of us who wear hearing aids(HA), as when hdmi is used the optical output (Toslink) doesn't work, but I found out how to get it to work. Turn the volume on your sounbar to 0, then connect the HA TV Connect, your HA will now get sound when you turn the hdmi volume back up, even after TV has been turned off.
Imma try to answer some questions here: Yes the 950h is still a better performing tv overall, especially in brightness, local dimming, color performance, viewing angles and reflection handling. The build quality is better as well. For gaming the x90j is superior to the x950h To understand the position of the x90j in the lineup as many people seem to confuse it with the x900e: The 900e was a high level premium tv, the x90j is a mid tier class. The position the 900e had is now the x95j, the x90j is the replacement what used to be the x850e/f/g. This means the price once it normalizes (don’t take the release price as a guideline but rather actual rrp once there is a decent amount of stock available) is in this category. The same with the x80j, it’s replacing the x700h, not the x800h. When on the fence between the 900h and 90j, it heavily depends on the price. In general, the x90j is superior in every way compared to the x900h but is it about 500$ better? That’s up to you. If you just need a tv for casual gaming and viewing, get the 900h and put the money you save towards a decent sound bar. About VRR, it depends how much you value it. This tv performs exceptionally well even without vrr. And be honest when was the last time you played a game on your ps4 and thought “oh god this just keeps tearing and stuttering i wish i had vrr” don’t get me wrong it’s great when you have it but you definitely won’t notice it if you don’t go looking for it.
The X900H cannot be recommended for gaming, it has the famous broken 4k 120 issue which exhibits blur. It has been revealed by HDTVTest and other sources to be a hardware design fault which can only be fixed if Sony takes responsibility and do a recall/refund of all X900H units. Additionally now that the Hisense U8G exists with a starting price of $949 for the 55", all 3 TVs X900H, 950H and X90J ain't worth it, mid tier class or not. The Hisense U8G is capable of reaching 1500 nits peak brightness and has more than 100 dimming zones. Check out the reviews.
"Base on your last paragraph", may I ask what make X90J superior over 950H in gaming? Yes it comes with hdmi2.1 but with no VRR and ALLM at least for now. I'm asking because I about to buy 950H. (30% gaming/ 70% streamig btw.) Thx
@@Ermelious the h8g is not available everywhere, especially not outside the US. Also the blur issue isn’t that bad if you are in normal seating distance and not faceplanting into the tv.
@@antratic3333 it depends. Most games on ps5, xbsx run at 4k30 or 4k60. Yes some have a performance mode but sacrifice a ton of visual fidelity to still struggle to reach the advertised 120fps. If you are on pc with a powerful gpu, by all means go for the x90j or wait for x95j/a80j. If visual performance is priority and you plan on playing games in 4k30/60 with high quality, the x950h is phenomenal. So unless you really value that 120hz go for the 950h
@@Zoranurai13 Thank you. The 120hz means nothing to me as I'm not a hardcore gamer. The reason I'm hesitating because X90J has better contrast due to No X-wide Viewing Angle screen. Plus it seems brighter to catch up with 950H (base on the review ofcourse.) So I think it might be a better choice when comes with hdmi 2.1 as a pros, Appreciated.
Very good review as always, although the x90j seems pretty similar to its predecessor, in my opinion the XR processor will make a big difference in real life experience. Something that's hard to measure with computer and lens.
If you care at all about the gaming features get the U8G all the gaming features already work right out of the box. The 900h from last year still doesn't have vrr either...
The X90J 75" is crazy good value right now at 1200 $, VRR + Local Dimming + XR Cognitive processor goodness. It's rare to find a great value TV with Sony, but this one punches harder than any other TV at this price range.
Have no regrets with the x900h, that I bought 6 months back. Thanks to rtings for helping me decide. The blurry text is an issue at 120hz with hdmi 2.1, although fine at lower than 120. Without VRR, games suffer lot of screen tearing, hope they get the update soon as it has already been a year.
I checked on the SONY website and they had a price for the X95J 65". It is $200 more than the price of the X90J 65". It might be worth waiting until August for it.
@@fundemort Apparently a better processor and HDMI 2.1 features. The x950H is a great buy if you can snag it at a discount. It has the older two processor setup, unsure of new single processor performance.
@@TheLawIX The X95J and the X90J both have the same dual chip setup with the Mediatek MT 5895 and the Sony's proprietary XR chip. Both have two HDMI 2.1 port with VRR and ALLM not avaible yet. Where did you read X95J has better processor? X95J has the X-wide viewing angle, more brightness and more dimming zones. Processors are the same.
Got x90j and love it so far. I get some blurryness on faces when watching some hdr content. Or certain scenes. Not sure if thats from upscaling,a signal problem or just bad cgi. Just wondering if theres a way to fix that.

Hey @Kapono5150! Just to clarify, the LG G1 video hasn't been published yet as we're still trying to purchase one for testing. As for the LG C1, we won't be posting a new video for it, but we will update the written review and pin a comment on the original video if and when we're able to confirm the information about the evo panels! Also, we've already pinned a comment on the C1 review that states the following: The US model C1 OLED we bought seems to not have the new "evo" panel found in our A90J. The SPD looks more similar to the 3S3C WOLED panel, and our unit doesn't exhibit the slight red tint when viewing off-axis that the newer panels seem to have. Some users are reporting online that their C1s have the new panel. At the moment, we don't know the extent of this and whether certain markets are receiving different panels. LG still publicly advertises that the G1 has the new panel and the C1 does not, so we won't know until they make a statement clarifying this. We will investigate the G1 OLED once we are able to buy one.
@@RTINGSdotcom Forgive me, I was referring to the C1 video you posted. What you stated about the G1 in that video was incorrect. At least your doing the right thing and being honest. Thank you for replying.
Basically improved in all the area that really counts over the X900H (better contrast, 800 nits real scene highlight, better color volume, smooth gradation, better upscaling and no 4K 120Hz blur, better frequency response), but still overpriced.
@@raziel5008 similar doesn’t not mean the same and most people who have last years tv isn’t going to buy a new one with just a bit more hdr and a better 120hrz at 4K mode as not everyone is that hardcore when it comes to gaming
My x90j 55 inch looks amazing on standard mode but has unplayable amount of input lag on ps5 and my desktop. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated
@@NoCommentaryLife you cannot do 4k 120 hdr on the x90j you can only do 4k 60 hdr... so if you are doing high refresh gaming you get 8bit 444 chroma sub sampling... hence the bad color unfortunately. Also the HDR10 certification is BS on this TV as you need to at least do 1000nitz sustained peak brightness. If I had not bought this TV from costco I would be livid.
If you want a better looking game mode, you will need to manually fine tune the picture settings. I got my game mode looking perfect after seeing a vid on youtube about it. I copied someone’s settings that they used for their x900h.
I bought the 85 inch X91J from Costco yesterday for $2,999. With the promotion it came with a free 5 year warranty for free. And it was in stock, just slide it in the truck and take it home. That tipped the scale for me. Me and my son n laws are vary impressed.
Rtings is in general really good and that's where most TV enthousiasts check and compare TV reviews. They have written reviews and scores (although some of their scores are really stupid, like they'll calculate glare as 50% of the score they give for watching regular TV shows or something and other stuff that makes little sense) But their reviews are the most detailed and technical of all reviews. And they review all the mid-high and high range TVs
I’m so confused. On Amazon and other websites, it’s advertised that this TV can have input lag as low as 8.5ms. So how is it 18.7ms here?? What’s going on, and what is exactly the full truth?
Don't get the scoring you have in some categories. You showed the 900H as a 6.9 score for HDR vs 7.9 for the X90J.. Clearly showing almost 280 Nits more in HDR for movies and almost the same for gaming.. Yet the final scores show HDR gaming as both 8.3. So all of a sudden the higher Nits didn't matter on the X90j? Or the deeper contrast? How is the 900H 7.9 for PC monitor and the X90J 7.8... The 900H has the problem of half resolution 4K 120Hz, the X90J doesn't... So it actually presents NON BLURRY picture which is super important on a PC.. Yet it gets LOWER score.. The fact of the matter is that the X90J even in your own stats for the most part is better than the 900H. But it gets the same overall 8.1 score..
I agree, there is clearly something missing in the v1.6 RTINGS test metodology applied to the newest TVs. After seeing the QN85A with an IPS panel, king of blooming, outrageous black uniformity with light bleed everywere and an embarrassing sound quality getting an overall score of 8.2, I learned to take the RTINGS scores with a grain of salts and evaluate myself the empirical data from the single tests.
This is by far one of the best reviews i have ever seen!! Subscribed immediately to this channel, i am getting the x90j 55’ just wished if there was smaller screen sizes with same specs as 55 in my opinion are quite big for gaming since i sit close to my tv Edit: there is a 50’ model x85j with hdmi 2.1 i will probably go for this model for the smaller screen size
There is a 50" x90j mate also a 94j which is a slightly better 90j (better colours and adjustable stand) 55" is not too big. Even if you sit close to the TV. I sit 1 to 2 meters from my TV while playing competitive games and have been using 55" for a long time now. And you can always sit slightly further from the screen. Not to mention larger screen gives a better tv/movie experience
For what it's worth, I saw a X90J on the display in a nearby electronics store yesterday. It had a really noticeable vignetting on all four corners. I'm starting to think it's a common "feature" on those sets.
I wanted to get the H but it is no longer in stock and is getting replaced by the J. Guess I gotta stick to the J, but I'm feeling glad because the half 4K issue has been resolved in the J.
When I was 11, my father bought me a small tv for my bedroom. Being the lazy bastard that I am, I didn’t bother throwing away the oversized box it came in. Luckily, my best friend Christian knew exactly what to do with it: he invented a volleyball-like game in which he and I would both lie on the floor of my room with my bed acting as the net between us. We would proceed to hurl the tv box at each other, trying to injure the other person as much as possible! The one and only rule was that the players had to stay fixed in the same position. Regardless, Christian would frequently cheat by getting up and moving out of the way of my shots! One time he even left the room and it took me an embarrassingly long time to realise!

Good to see some actual improvement compared to last year after the poor showing from the X80J. Disappointing to see that VRR still hasnt been enabled on the X900H. They're both very close overall! The A90J is slightly better though due to the better color accuracy out of the box and the increased brightness in SDR!
Excellent tv !! 👏👏👏👏👏 Contrast, brightness, color accuracy, great HDR ... will drop in price soon when the x95j comes out.... Will be a great performance for its price
I'm glad Sony offers this in 50inch, some people (like myself) cant fit a big TV in their room. All manufacturers should offer high end 43-50 inch model TVs.

@@michaeldavis6550 I don't know if it has been released in the US. I've bought it in The Netherlands. It should be a sub-version from the X90J model. 14:33 - The X90J doesn't sacrifice resolution at 4K120Hz - but it does sacrifice HDR at 4K120Hz - introducing posterization - due to the limited bandwidth of the MediaTek 5895 SoC.
@@CH-bn7qb - It's not related to HDMI bandwidth (which is indeed 48Gbps on the Sony's). It's related to the bandwidth of the MediaTek 5895 System-on-a-chip. It's the same problematic SoC Sony used last year. This year Sony's companion BRAVIA XR processor helps with the resolution at 4K120Hz - but there is still insufficient bandwidth for HDR at 4K120Hz, hence this years posterization issue. Sony just needs to stop using that MediaTek chip.
Great review as usual however could you please provide the actual minimal black level when measuring contrast ratio. That would be very helpful indeed. Thanks.
Can someone explain the earc/arc hdmi port? What's different from it frome the other 2.1 hdmi port? And why do we might have to sacrifice one of the ports for audio passthrough?
Hi guys, could you do me a favor and confirm whether they are any blur or posterization issues with the x90j in 4k 120hz HDR mode? I've heard rumblings it still has issues while using HDR and 4k/120hz. Thanks!
@@SpineSplitter1776 actually man I ended up getting this TV and I'm happy to answer my own question. Didn't notice any posturisation. In fact the gaming picture was really impressive, big step up from x900h. So I recommend it.
16:28 that's not airplay, you're using Google's streaming implementation. You need to hit the airplay option then select the TV. That will not mirror your display.
I bought two of em before any reviews were out... I never returned em :) And I was coming from having an LGC6P oled and X900e. I did install bias lighting on the TV replacing the oled thougj.
@@amitsoni6769 it's been really good. No issues. It was difficult going from an Oled in the Living room to LED. But using bias lighting really makes it not a noticeable difference to me. Great for gaming and movies.
Got my 85x900h for 2k shipped including tax before Black Friday last year from green toe. Been a great tv besides remote being cheap and motortrend app having horrible audio latency
I do agree that the Hisense is better value at the price. There are a few things to be aware of. The Hisense has very limited app support. There local dimming algorithm leaves a fair bit to be desired and their motion handling is not great. I would probably buy the Sony if you could get it for ~3k probably be a while since they just dropped. Will be interesting to see what Hisense bring this year. New Vidaa Update means in theory much better app support. Hopefully we see an evolution of the dual cell (SX) maybe in other sizes. Fingers crossed for HDMI 2.1 It really is Hisense game to lose this year. They're in such a good position as long as they keep their momentum it is well and truely in their court.
@@SubTract04 I don't think anyone who watches this channel buys a TV based on its smart capabilities..buy a GoogleTV for $49... And motion handling score is higher than the Sony in these reviews? The issue is, the Sony isn't worth $2,000 more for what it offers
With everyone buying big TVs over the past couple years you really need to start reviewing every TV in a 65" or bigger size. Yes it costs a little more but sometimes there's a lot of difference between a 65 or 75" TV compared to a puny 55".
I am also not sure if the $600 additional price for the X90J is worth it over the X900H (75" models). Today (5.18.2021) Best Buy has the 75" X90J for $2399. The 75" X900H is only $1799 and the 85" X900h is only $2199. I am leaning toward the X900H in the 85" size. I am currently using the X900E in 65" size for my living room TV. I bough it in 2018 and love it.
I went with the 85" 900h for 2169 For me its a no brainer and best deal regardless of brand size and price. And I hear the 85 is brighter than the other 900h's.
@@bherbo3943 I did, you meant this for Dave lol. After all my research, In my humble opinion the 85" 900h for 1999 or the 2169I paid for it, is the best bang for the tv on the market
There are $600 additional price because the X90J is the 2021 model, not because Sony is charging more for some specific feature. The price list is the same of the X900H when it came out. In a year we will be here discussing how the 2022 X90K it's not worth the $600 over the X90J. That's how electronics pricing works.
I just bought the Sony Bravia XR65X90J 2021 Model XR65X90CJ at Costco in the USA. Day one, I was disappointed with it. User interface was outdated and not appealing. Info display was outdated too. My older LG TV had a great information display. It was modern and easy to see. Day two, it started to grow on me, but just by a bit. Good picture with 4K content, but OTA picture is just okay. OTA SD and especially old TV shows from the 1970's thru the 1990's do not upscale that great. Update: Watching OTA broadcasts are a strain on my eyes. OTA picture is fuzzy and not good at all. I tried all picture settings and nothing made the Sony TV look good. Motion on the Sony is blurry and no combination of motion settings/clarity helped either. 4K programing from Netflix, UA-cam, and Disney are great. But, like I said, OTA is horrible. Upscaling SD content is even worse. The look of the TV for its price is not appealing. It has cheap plastic and an unappealing bezel frame. The TV stand is metal, and ugly. The remote feels cheap and the use of it is straining. It’s not backlit either. Come on Sony! How about a printed manual too, explaining settings. The settings interface is a throwback from the 1970's. Difficult to navigate and the look and feel are clunky to use. My 10 year old Samsung has an impressive settings interface. The Samsung and LG interfaces are easy to use and visually appealing. Google play store on the Sony has limited apps that actually work with the TV. I have not found a way to adjust the order of certain apps. Some apps adjust, and other rows in app display do not allow adjusting order. That’s strange… Usable memory storage at around 600MB is pretty bad at this price point. You can add a memory stick if you want. But why should would have too? I'm still waiting to test this memory feature out. UK models have TV record capabilities, but USA models do not have this feature enabled. Why? Copyright laws? Who knows… In the end, I'm still on the fence about this TV. I love the LG magic remote TV's usability, but I had two LG's go bad in short order. One LG TV in less than one year, and the other in 3 years. My old Samsung (10 yrs. and still going) still has a great picture, but I was never happy with smart features back then. They were slow and crappy. I do not have experience with new Samsung TV's. I might check them out in the future. Anyway, I’m still undecided if I’m keeping the Sony or looking for something else. UPDATE: The Sony TV is getting returned. Motion and upscaling are horrendous. OTA signals look bad. I’m getting a LG C1 TV instead.
That’s disappointing to here because Sony is supposed to have the best upscaling. I’ve been waiting for this TV to go on sale at Costco, but your comments are giving me second thoughts. We watch mainly satellite HD TV and Prime and were hoping this Sony would upscale content to bear 4K. We liked the picture quality of the Samsung Neo Qled TV’s but not the price and don’t like the burn-in risk of OLED. Cheers!
Hey! Thought this would be the best way to get in touch. X90J has gotten a software update for VRR! Is there any chance of updating the reviews with VRR support. Would help me understand how good the tv is based on other similarly priced tvs especially with Black Friday sales
How’s the flicker in your experience?

P.s. Watching 4k stuff should have been the first thing you do hahah.. It's been a few months by now but if you're looking for quality 4k HDR stuff.
1. UA-cam has great demos and videos
Hey man, can you tell me how bad the picture really gets when you watch from an angle?
50 or 60

Can you explain why ? I want to buy it for ps5.

@@michaeldavis6550 Awesome! Congrats! Enjoy your new TV :D

Imma try to answer some questions here:
Yes the 950h is still a better performing tv overall, especially in brightness, local dimming, color performance, viewing angles and reflection handling. The build quality is better as well.
For gaming the x90j is superior to the x950h
To understand the position of the x90j in the lineup as many people seem to confuse it with the x900e:
The 900e was a high level premium tv, the x90j is a mid tier class.
RTINGS states a correction video is coming for the C1 and G1, look 👀 out for that
Hey @Kapono5150!

They'll update with VRR as soon as you hear about the PS5 being updated with VRR through an update.
First time watching your videos and this review was really great. I'm definitely getting the 50 inch x90j as an upgrade from my 43 inch Sony 800D.
Rtings is in general really good and that's where most TV enthousiasts check and compare TV reviews. They have written reviews and scores (although some of their scores are really stupid, like they'll calculate glare as 50% of the score they give for watching regular TV shows or something and other stuff that makes little sense)
But their reviews are the most detailed and technical of all reviews.

This review is so good.
Thanks for the kind words :)
I agree, great format and tone
This is by far one of the best reviews i have ever seen!! Subscribed immediately to this channel, i am getting the x90j 55’ just wished if there was smaller screen sizes with same specs as 55 in my opinion are quite big for gaming since i sit close to my tv
Edit: there is a 50’ model x85j with hdmi 2.1 i will probably go for this model for the smaller screen size
There is a 50" x90j mate also a 94j which is a slightly better 90j (better colours and adjustable stand)
55" is not too big. Even if you sit close to the TV. I sit 1 to 2 meters from my TV while playing competitive games and have been using 55" for a long time now. And you can always sit slightly further from the screen. Not to mention larger screen gives a better tv/movie experience

14:33 - The X90J doesn't sacrifice resolution at 4K120Hz - but it does sacrifice HDR at 4K120Hz - introducing posterization - due to the limited bandwidth of the MediaTek 5895 SoC.
That’s the thing tho is it a bandwidth issue ? I have the A90J it has the same issue but are the HDMI 2.1 ports on these TVs full 48GBPS ?
@@CH-bn7qb - It's not related to HDMI bandwidth (which is indeed 48Gbps on the Sony's). It's related to the bandwidth of the MediaTek 5895 System-on-a-chip. It's the same problematic SoC Sony used last year. This year Sony's companion BRAVIA XR processor helps with the resolution at 4K120Hz - but there is still insufficient bandwidth for HDR at 4K120Hz, hence this years posterization issue. With everyone buying big TVs over the past couple years you really need to start reviewing every TV in a 65" or bigger size. Yes it costs a little more but sometimes there's a lot of difference between a 65 or 75" TV compared to a puny 55".
Yes
In my area the x95j is not yet available, only the x90j and the x94j. What are the differences between these two?
I am also not sure if the $600 additional price for the X90J is worth it over the X900H (75" models). Today (5.18.2021) Best Buy has the 75" X90J for $2399. The 75" X900H is only $1799 and the 85" X900h is only $2199. I am leaning toward the X900H in the 85" size. I am currently using the X900E in 65" size for my living room TV. There are $600 additional price because the X90J is the 2021 model, not because Sony is charging more for some specific feature. The price list is the same of the X900H when it came out. In a year we will be here discussing how the 2022 X90K it's not worth the $600 over the X90J. That's how electronics pricing works.
Like the new compare and questions segment
Sony really dropped the ball again this year. No VRR, low dimming zones, no Mini-LED
Also, no 85" option either. The 100" is going to be a lot of money.
That’s strange…
Usable memory storage at around 600MB is pretty bad at this price point. You can add a memory stick if you want. But why should would have too? I'm still waiting to test this memory feature out. UK models have TV record capabilities, but USA models do not have this feature enabled. Why? Copyright laws? Who knows…
In the end, I'm still on the fence about this TV.
Cheers!
Sony's 900 TV has fallen in quality. Their X900E from 2017 was their last flagship LED TV imo
