- Last week I took the Japanese Language Proficiency Test for the first time. Here are my first thoughts fresh out of the test, and was it what most people call easy?

I think it is so arrogant and presumptuous for people say that there is no point in N5 because it is "easy". "Easy" for whom? It is very HARD for someone who has just learnt his basic introductions and how to write hiragana and katakana. N5 is an important milestone - it means a person knows basic grammar, 700 words and can understand very basic conversation. Given how hard Japanese is generally, N5 is a decent achievement.
I'm so proud of you for working hard and doing your best! :)
I love your language and culture videos!
It is always wonderful to practice up on learning different languages. I heard that Japanese doesnt mess around when it comes to their tests, as they probably only want the best of the best and the most proficient speakers to work in there country. I have to respect that a bit.
Good luck!
All the best! Have fun at otakon!
thanks!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Timed tests always got to me. I hate timed activities, even in games. Too much anxiety. I get so anxious about it I didn’t take the SATs. I went to community college then transferred with my associates. Turned out to be less stressful and cheaper 😅
But I know I’ll have to get over that anxiety eventually. I seemed to hit a wall in Spanish when it comes to conversation beyond a basic level but my reading is usually on point. Have you ever experienced a wall with Japanese and if so how have you overcome it?
I failed the ACT my first time actually!
Damn, I know this is old. But it’s comforting to know that I’m not the only one with anxiety. Time based test make me super anxious too lol
The time on the voucher should be the exact time you have. Of course it might depend on whether or not the proctors know what they are doing, but for me it was always exact, and I was very strategic in training myself to get things done in the correct amount of time
Uhg that's such a shame, cause yea during reading, 1:15-2:00 let's say, we couldn't begin until 1:25 and it was still pencils down at 2.
Nice excellent
Yes.
nice
Yes, people don't understand that the format if the test is what you need to think about and it doesn't mean you don't know anything if you don't pass.
I believe in you Kiira-chan! If you ever need encouragement, just think of the unparalleled-satisfying feeling, of not only knowing another language, but being able to communicate in that language! That is a feeling that cannot be explained in words, but has to be felt by the person themselves!
Can I do this online? Or do I have to go to a certain place
It must be in person :)
Where can I apply to take the test?
Jlpt.jp
They have an English website option of course!
@@GingerGaiden oh...thank you very much
So, did you pass or what? I can't find a follow up on your channel.
I did! I am n3 level now
@@GingerGaiden Dame
So let's say you're at an n5 level would you be conversational at that point if you've practiced speaking and you have that many vocabulary words
I'm N4 level and I veryyyyyy basic conversational level. I think N3 is around the point you can talk almost nearly anything not complicated like politics, science, medicine, ect.
Did u pass?
I did! Taking N4 in a few months.
@@GingerGaiden Cool to hear that, ganbatte! Great video by the way.
Japanese is hard, but Chinese Mandarin and Russian are harder.
