FOTS especially with Darthmod is probably one of my favourite campaign and battle experiences in Total War. Also this is as close as we've been really to a Victorian Total War. Can we all agree having FOTS battles on a global map would just be the best thing ever? I would honestly hold my Medieval 3 dreams for that. Let me know what you think of FOTS in the comments below!

Imagine Fall of the Samurai with added Okinawa, Taiwan and associated islands, South and North Korea and parts of eastern China, Immortal Empires style.
There are mods to add china and Korea into the map I believe. I have some downloaded but haven't tested them out yet.

Shogun 2 needs a Meiji Restoration mod going up untill the early stages of WW1. IMAGINE the 1st Sino-Japanese war, Satsuma Rebellion, and ofc the Russo-Japanese War. All the Western and East Asian Factions would be awesome to see

@tomniemann6823 Rome 2 is average. Shogun 2 stands way above Rome 2. Attila I agree isn't bad, but I mostly only play with mods now, it stands as my #2 behind Shogun 2.

Currently replaying the game, spamming Armstrong guns never gets old and watching them blow apart enemies as your infantry mows down anything left with kneel fire
Great video...Fall of the Samurai is my favorite TW game, and one of my favorite all time games. I really wish they would do a similar 19th century follow-up. Even 13 years later it still looks great too. And the tech tree. And the moddability. As you mentioned!
If I had to use a mod that best overhauls FOTS which one would you recomend??

Would love more historical Total War games with a before and after DLCs in the historical timeline sense. Need a Shogun 3 and new Medieval for sure

There's a dude that made a Europe to India map for Shogun 2 that is playable with Japanese clans. Hopefully other people will take it as a basis for a modernised Empire Total War experience
thanks for recommending instant gaming, I didn't know it existed until your recent video or so, despite not every game or dlc is there compared to steam but the discounts are so much better than the steam sales
You're releasing videos after videos these days. I think it's safe to say Termi is back? 👀 (Also, using the TW: Warhammer 1 OST is a great idea. You may not like the game, but that one track in particular is fire!)

Congrats on yet another great review, sir! Nice to see you going back to review some of the older Total War titles like Shogun 2. Keep meaning to dust this game off and give it some serious playtime as bought years ago and never really played it much. After this review, I probably will! BTW: What mods are you running with this game? I think I have DarthMod installed however not sure if this mod is even good anymore? Which mods would you recommend for this game to be running in 2024 for the best gaming experience? Keep up the great content, sir! :)

Replayed this multiple times after finishing watching "Shogun", are there any mods that improve on Fall Of The Samurai? As Cannons are clearly too op, could smash the AI so easily would like a good mod to balance the game and add even more.

Shogun 2 is my favourite of all the total war titles. It still stands far above all titled released after it.
I think it's the smaller scale and all factions feeling similar is why it's not as big

I'd love to see Empire remade with the Shogun 2 engine and AI. I love the Warhammer games, but to me they feel more like arcade campaigns, and I do think that CA could implement some features from past games in future releases. They're supposed to build on previous knowledge, goddamint!
I am not a fantasy fan but they could have made those games truly epic if they didnt water down so many mechanics, that lore/ip is so full of diverse units and races that it is mindblowing and they kind of managed the magic aspect far better then I had expected, however look at the empires gunpowder units as an example, they use crossbow mechanics and it just ruins so much of the immersion of them as they can shoot in arcs and even through their own men etc. keeping mechanics and improving them would actually make me a historical TW fan really like the fantasy ones as well.
Its 250-300 years not 400( whether u take begining or ending of Sengoku jidai). Sekigahara was in 1600 not 1350.
The problem.... im simply uninterested in asia... this set in europe, sign me up! But a wholly asian game map just doesnt interest me at all.
I only mean this in the sense that i just hold very little historical interest in china/japan... some love it, i personally find european/eastern european/eurasian history far more interesting. The market in gaming is just so oversaturated with samurai/chinese influences and i have absolutely no interest in it

i played fall of the samurai for like 300 Hours but still, feels like pacing in Empire total war in Darthmod is much better IMO. FOTS or shogun 2 battle in general just feels too fast.

At this stage I'd be happy with a mod that turned this in to 'Empire' rather than have CA butcher a new game, charge a small fortune for it then have the cheek to sell DLC for base game content.
I hated the setting of this game. The traditional armies of the Shogunate forces were as modernized as the Imperial forces. In fact neither the Imperial or Shogunate sides were the first modern armies of Japan. The first modern armies in Japan were actually private armies of two clans; who's names I unfortunately forgot. After these clans were defeated in battle by western forces these clans immediately modernized their armies with western technology and tactics; becoming the first modern Japanese forces in Japan in this era.
The traditional factions did not fight adorned in armor, wielding only sword and bows. These were modernized armies of predominantly samurai retainers and peasants armed with western style weapons. The traditions the Shogunate forces wanted to preserve was not technological but social ones.
I wish we could see a Victoria Total War on global scale, that would be really amazing and somewhat politically incorrect... For the moment we will have to make do with Bronze Age Egypt and Mesopotamia😅

Still waiting for CA to make a game set in the Zemene Mesafint (aka The Age of Princes) in Ethiopia, which is similar to the Sengoku Jidai in Japan with a weak emperor and regional rulers fighting for power. This happened around the same time as the FOTS time period so you have a mix of both traditional and modern units too allowing for that dynamic gameplay.
Ethiopia is very ethnically diverse (and larger then maps make it seem), so the rulers from different regions will have access to unique units that represent that region, with the Ras of Shewa obviously having access to the famous Oromo cavalry, who will need to contend with the modernizing Ras of Tigray with his modern arms and artillery, and support of the church. And of course, the historical winner, the bandit emperor Tewodros II, who can have a special ability to add units from defeated armies into his own. Though a lot of the units will be like those used by Zagwe in the AD1212 mod for Attila, but now with skirmisher cav using rifles.
Obviously a really niche time in history that is even less known than FOTS's and CA will never make a game about it, but it just seems so cool in my head.

Fall of the samurai is broken. It needs fixing by mods and there are many things even mods can't fix
Like i said before Napoleon was the worst of all total war expansions, so that doesn't help comparing.

This video was weak sauce for FOTS I need to see more energy. You mentioned naval warfare but failed to mention the torpedo. What are we doing here besides dragging your words and making quick old videos. Its 2024 and you made of video about FOTS whats really going on mannnee?!?
