We created a 10 minute seascape using acrylic paint and then marbled the ocean with nail polish. It turned out really cool. Love your demo, I will check out your channel.
Thank you for such an awesome tutorial! I loved every minute (dog with hairball cough made me laugh), and painted along easily. So pleased with my painting, please post some more acrylic tutorials soon ☺️!
Lookin' great Stephie...Thanks for the product tips... One of my biggest problems was fast drying and not being able to blend... Now I know its ok to use a wet brush and that there is a "mat medium" to keep acrylics from drying so fast.
Just to tell you that if your brush gets dry with acrylics, you may be able to bring it back by using rubbing alcohol and leave the brush in there over night or for an hour and keep washing it.
Sometimes if I use a cheap brush to paint the horizon some bristles splay out resulting in faint lines above or below where your painting, so I discovered its best to use the correct brush here. Very helpful video thanks :)
whidbeyartist Typically I have found it's the cheap brushes that do that. I've got several 'house brand' I've gotten from art supply stores that do this. Sadly it's a 'you get what you pay for' scenario. I'd just say avoid those brands you've bought before that shed and buy ones that are a little higher in price. I also prefer synthetic brushes over real fur or hair.
what is the bottle of golden "fluid" in the beginning of this, used for???? You sort of compared it to inks...is it actually a paint or a medium used to thin another color?
+Lana J It's a medium that will help make your paints thinner so they have a consistency that is more like ink, instead of the thicker paste that most acrylics come standard as.
Do You thin your paint with water or anything before adding the first layer (the sky)? When I paint my paint seems to absorb right into the canvas off my brush, and everyone else's I watch seems to be able to spread their paint pretty well and it looks very wet while mine looks dry from the start.
+Lane Faulhaber (Marvelasuoer) most likely just water. It may be one of two things : the brand of paint you are using. Or it's the type of canvas. I'm using a canvas board which is less absorbent than real canvas.
StephieArt Okay, thank you! I'll keep those factors in mind. I tried painting on a smaller canvas recently that had more of a matted board for backing and it seemed to help for some reason, I also think that I wasn't applying enough paint as well!
when i paint i cant seem to get a consistent coat. the acrylic will be lighter in some areas and darker in others...wen i go over it it seems like my brush takes the paint off. is it because im using cheap paint? any tips??? thanks!
+kangbus It might be the paint. Is this a mixed hue you've created? Or when you are painting, the color itself is streaky? Also what are you painting on? canvas? paper? canvas board? Canvas board is notorious for lifting the paint up if it isn't completely dry. What brand of paint are you using? Also, acrylics dry darker than what you mix them, so if you are painting a large area, it could be that some of the paint has dried in some areas by the time you are filling in that last part of the area, causing a pretty dramatic look of different tone. if there isn't something else amiss, theoretically once it is all completely dry, it should be the same intensity.
+StephieArt im painting on a canvas and i mixed green and a little bit of white. im using "Pēbēo studio acrylic high viscosity" . i also forgot to gesso my canvas if that matters. hmmm
Ah! That answers my questions. High Viscosity means it's super thin, super runny. It doesn't have much opaqueness to it either likely. It also sounds like you might not be mixing it well enough, but if you are trying to follow my tutorial, a high viscosity paint won't work. You need a thicker, more paste like paint. Brand so much doesn't matter as long as it's an artist grade. Most paints come in three variety, student, intermediate and artist. Student brands usually suck. They have too much binder, not a lot of color and you end up using way more paint to get the same results you would with less using the intermediate or artist grade. Try checking out the liquitex or golden or grumbacher brands. Make sure it's the ones in the tubes, and not the 'fluid' varieties. I love those too, but you can't do the same type of texture with them because they are so thin. But unlike the high viscosity types, it's packed full of pigment.
I really liked your tutorial! It had a lot of good information in it. My only complaint is how many times you said "uh/um". 10 times in the first minute. Over 20 times after minute 4...
Maureen Colson Looks like either natural bristles or white nylon. Acrylics are extremely forgiving, so you can use just about any good quality brush with them.
There's nothing I can do about that right now unfortunately. I've watched them and am aware they aren't the highest quality video. My internet speed is rather on the slow side but it's just too expensive to upgrade further for the moment. It takes forever as it is to upload anything. to increase the file side any more would make posting next to impossible.
I appreciate that. I'm working on getting a better net connection but that's sort of a long term goal. hopefully by the end of the year. fingers crossed. :)
I love it that you explain the little things. In so many tutorials the teacher assumes too much, even for the beginner. Great video - thanks so much!
+Water Logged No problem thank you!

So helpful! I'm a beginner and I love how you explained your techniques!
Glad the video helped. Sorry for the slow response my health has not been good this year and I've gotten very behind on comments.

Great, easy, fun tutorial. Perfect for a beginner or anyone for that matter.
Thank you!

Wow.. I'm glad I came across this today... what a lot of great tips.!! much appreciated... thank you!

One thing I'll never forget that my art teacher in high school taught me is, " you can never mess up in art because u can always fix it."
Jenn Larsen that's a good way of looking at it :D
Beautiful
Thanks! I'm glad you found it helpful!
Glad you liked it!
I HAVE ALL SORTS OF BRUSHES BUT I HAVE A TERRIBLE TIME WITH BRISTLES COMING OFF IN MY PAINTINGS. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
THANKS

Did you just use water to 'erase'?

Can I paint this exact seascape on two vertical panels and flank each panel on the sides of a large mirror?
Anita Brown I do not see why not. :)
what size candies do you use

And yes, gessoing would likely help! the high viscosity stuff also needs to completely dry before you do another layer with it.
Thank you it´s very Nice
love the video. Thank you

+Joanne M. Firth Glad you liked it!
What do you mean by "plasticy"?
some acrylics can get a very plastic like characteristic, where it becomes water resistant, and or overly shiny.
I can't put urls into comments. Just go to the main channel page and click on Acrylics part 2
It would be better if we could see your paint palette too
Larry Gag I'll try to do that next time. :)
Where is the rest of the lesson? It ends at 26:06
Did she say "Happy little clouds"? 😂😂😂
Yup
love this video, weeee lol lol xxx jk
If you could see your video, the resolution is so low that I can count the pixels...

StephieArt The long upload time is normal (I uploaded video for hours); I told you that because your tuto deserves a greater audience ;-)
I appreciate that. I'm working on getting a better net connection but that's sort of a long term goal. hopefully by the end of the year. fingers crossed. :)

the low quality of the video really lets this down. otherwise, great job.
the video is not very clear...
+Marilyn Keddy I know. There isn't much I can do about it at this point, but next time I'll try to find a better focus point.
WHATS UR JOB!!!!!?!?!?!?!? XD
+alesha fisher I am a freelance artist. :)
too many ums but good.
UA-cam ads suk
Yes but they help support content creators. Better to get free tutorials than to have to pay for them, or not have them at all.
