    I'm a big fan of the Second Doctor, thus to be offered the possibility of more Two is perfectly fine by me.
    Seriously though Season 6B as a concept is a handy one in order to explain why in both 'The Five Doctors' and 'The Two Doctors' the Doctor looks visibly 'older' (ie grey hair) plus the fact that in the former tale that he knew all about the fates of Jamie and Zoe, that is until the CIA (Celestial Intervention Agency) allowed the Doctor to pick up Jamie (plus Victoria it seems) in order to assist him in his missions.
    To be honest as much of an exciting idea Season 6B is to me I have to admit that beyond the TV Comic strip stories that came out in 1969 my knowledge of Season 6B is non existent, unless you count the two TV Stories that I mentioned above.
    However the concept of the Doctor as an unwilling agent of the Time Lords also begat a little theory in my head regarding, of all things , UNIT dating!
    And no I don't mean a night out on the town with Mike Yates....
    Rather the concept being that the Third Doctor's exile on 1970s/1980s Earth was in fact one of his missions for the Time Lords!
    In this case it was due to the idea that I have that in the Doctor Who Universe (at least with regards to the one that the TV show takes place in, another matter for another time...) the 1970s/1980s era not only was it one where the planet Earth subject to multiple Alien invasion attempts but was also one where (or rather when) the whole fabric of Time (for Earth at least) was in a state of flux, and so it was the Doctor's secret mission to sort this out albeit one where his mind was wiped clean, was forced into a Regeneration and to once more part company with Jamie (and maybe Victoria) and that his TARDIS was then put on the blocks.
    Thus this explains the reason why different adventures in the UNIT seem to take place in different years one could at any time be living your life in the 1980s,and then without warning you'll find yourself back in the 1970s.
    Because you are a 'part' of the era you don't notice this, thanks in no small part of your past history getting 'rearranged' in order for your memories to 'match' thus finally setting to rest the age old argument as to when the UNIT era took place, the fact was it was BOTH the 1970s AND the 1980s.
    It would seem that whatever the issue with time was (maybe it was the Master's doing, hence this explains why that disguised Time Lord was sent to warn the Doctor in 'Terror of the Autons') ended up, somehow, 'fixed' (be it by the Doctor or maybe Captain Jack and/or Torchwood.... or even perhaps it was only a natural 'quirk' of the fabric of Time that 'fixed' itself) and the UNIT era pretty much 'settled' into the 1970s, hence explaining why in adventures made and set in the 1980s (plus those made afterwards that were also set in the 1980s) depict a planet Earth that is a lot closer to the way the 1980s looked in real life, if you get what I mean.
    One could also say that entire events, maybe even people, ended up getting 'wiped' from Time, somehow due to the 'rearrangement' which would help explain away quite a few contradiction's in the show, the Time War also helps cover things, not to mention the Doctor's concept of 'wibbly wobbly timey wimey' that he used to bang on about back in the day.
    Just my two cents.

    The fact that both the War Games and the Five Doctors were written by the same writer Terrence Dicks tells me that he purposely created this narrative gap between season 6 and season 7 to give other writers space to work with when using the Second Doctor. Helps to explain why Jamie wasn’t present in the Three Doctors or fully involved in the Five Doctors besides scheduling issues with the actor himself.
    Especially apparent when he would later on writes some Season 6B novels himself.

    season 6B is one of my biggest doctor who obsessions. like the time war, im always intrigued by potential eras we haven't fully seen. why do you say that big finish is limited in the second doctor stories they can tell? would you say a season 6B box set is implausable?

    So much has happened in Doctor Who since this video was made; I would have thought there would be many updates. But nope, hasn't been any videos in almost a year at this point. When he mentioned forced regeneration, I thought for sure that he was using the term because of the Thirteenth Doctor's final episode.

    The Five Doctors actually backs this up. The Time Lords wiped Jamie and Zoe’s minds. In the Five Doctors, when Troughton sees a vision of Jamie and Zoe, he says that his mind was wiped. The Five Doctors is during 6B. People often say the Two Doctors is during 6B, it’s not because Jamie is there. But, the Doctor explains that he is a Time Agent (couldn’t think of a name). But, Jamie knows who the Time Lords are, yet his mind was wiped! So the Two Doctors is very confusing. The Three Doctors does seem to work well with Series 6B. I don’t count the books and comics as canon, just some fun adventures. Same with Big Finish, I do appreciate all the efforts, however. I know you probably explain this, but I thought I’d comment this.

      For 2 Docs I always just assumed the Time Lords let the Doctor pick up Jamie and Victoria for a few missions.

      And in The Two Doctors, Two plans to go back to retrieve Victoria after the current situation is resolved. Despite never being able to get the Fast Return circuit working correctly until Three's tenure. More evidence.

      @@ohgoditshimrun1346 Maybe the TARDIS got damaged in one of his attempts to leave the 1970s/1980s?
      My money is on the attempt made in 'Spearhead from Space' due to the rather loud explosion heard during the part where he tries to escape, the Fast Return Switch, for all we know could be a part that requires a lot of power for it to work (due to it being a part of the TARDIS that simply due to its spring being stuck is considered by the TARDIS, of which one must always remember is a living being, of sorts, can drive people crazy and melt clock faces, implying some kind of mind control ability, most likely connected to it's Translation Circuits and reality warping powers, maybe connected to the damaged Chameleon Circuit respectively) hence the loud explosion and large clouds of smoke coming from the TARDIS, much larger than the one seen in 'Terror of the Autons' where he also attempts to escape.
      Hopefully that'll fix that little contradiction that the BBC made back in the day.
      That said though it is strange that after the events of 'The Edge of Destruction' (or to be fair on the Doctor after the events of 'Marco Polo' as the TARDIS had, to use his own words, 'gone to pot' most likely due to the rapid number of trips that the Ship took in that two part tale, all due to a stuck spring I might add, he did also point out that the TARDIS was 'burnt out' after all..) that our hero didn't just flick the Fast Return Switch the necessary number of times to get Ian and Barbara back home, you might say that the Doctor could have ran the risk of engaging in a Time Ram with his own Ship, should he go back to the exact area and second that the TARDIS arrived in in the year 1963 or if that wasn't the case that Ian and Barbra could run the very real risk of running into each other (knowing them they would have most likely would have been careful to keep away from their past selves by getting jobs, don't forget this was the 1960s, in another town, where they would have remained until the day that they left, or maybe just forever...) but the concept that it had become useable would help explain why the Doctor is often unable to take his Companions to their homes 'properly' (eg when he tried to take Rose home, the time he tried to take Sarah Jane Smith back home, among others) or indeed anywhere else because he is forced to set the coordinates manually (which would seem to an almost impossible feat to do alone, the TARDIS is not intended to be used by a solo pilot after all, thus he/she always messes up) and the less said about the steering on the Doctor's Type 40 the better....

    There is another problem with the Five Doctors scene that no one seems to talk about: The 2nd Doctor's deduction that that Jamie and Zoe were fake is based upon the the fact the they shouldn't know who he is, because the Timelords erased their memories. But the Timelords didn't totally erase Jamie's and Zoe's memories of the Doctor. They erased all but their first adventure with the 2nd Doctor, so therefore, they would know the Doctor and the fact that do know who he is, wouldn't mean they are fake.

    • @Nebuchadnezzar-Wildebeest
      @Nebuchadnezzar-Wildebeest Рік тому

      The Doctor doesn't realise they are fake until Jamie blurts out "The Brigadier's right..." At which point he notes that the Time Lords erased their memories when they were returned to their own time and then asks "so, how do you know who *we* are?" (not who *I* am). It was Jamie (and, by implication, Zoe) recognising The Brigadier which tipped The Doctor off, not them recognising him.

    • @warblerab2955
      @warblerab2955 Рік тому

      Well then logically wouldn't the Doctor have asked "how do you know who *he* is?" (pointing at the the Brigadier), not "how do you know who *we* are?"? @@Nebuchadnezzar-Wildebeest
