- Hello everyone! Sorry for the lack of enthusiasm in this video. Ive been sort of sick all week. I did have a jolly good time flying around as the hatchling and exploring ours, the ksp, and the owlks solar systems though! And that galactic core was brilliant! Hopefully people enjoy it! Console players especially!

Mod creator here! Super cool to see New Horizons get featured here! For anyone wondering, planet-making is super easy. I designed the mod so that you just edit text files to specify different parameters for your worlds (their orbits, surface texture, amount of water, etc). It's been really cool seeing members of the community come out and make planets addons for the mod. I made the real solar system pack, but all the other ones shown in this video were made by members of the community: Jammer made Galaxy, Ellie made ElliePlanets (ofc) and Titch made Atropos and the Tardis. For anyone interested, if you visit the "Custom Worlds" tab on the mod website linked in the description you can check out the currently made addons and even make some yourself.
And for actual custom content besides just visuals, its in the works. Currently there's a few easter eggs in the Real Solar System addon that you can check out with your signal scope. The Solar Neighbourhood mod also has some cool things to see. I also restored some old signals from the game's code in the Signals+ add-on. In the future I plan to implement the creation of more interactable objects on the planets, so things like translatable text, custom character dialogue, etc.
The latest feature I've added is making anglerfish work on any planet. There's a video on my channel of them chasing me through Giant's Deep, for those interested! Currently there's modders looking into having anglerfish cover the entire solar system, so I'm looking forward to seeing how terrifying that is.
is the tardis new textures or really really really well used in game assets?
also. what are the difficulties involved in making a very impressive mod like this? is it possible to one day be able to create new planet mechanics?
I didn't quite get it from this video, are all the modded astral bodies loaded in one scene? How do you deal with possible floating point errors at such large distances?
@@verkhvo Yes, and floating point errors are not dealt with since the mod owner doesn't want to put planets on rails
@@The_KingDoge it is a custom unity model. It is very easy to make planet mods, but if you want to use custom models it starts to get more difficult
Keep in mind this is just the beginning of New Horizons (the custom planet mod)... I wouldn't be surprised if, in the future, we get planets with their own story line and objectives (ie. actual stuff to do)
Solar Neighbourhood already almost has it already... only think that is missing is some log entries

Hi, astrophysics grad student here. Yes Charon is comparable to Pluto in size (about half the diameter, on eighth the mass) and is bigger than some other dwarf planets in its own right. Because of this, some people argue that they should be considered a binary dwarf planet system and not a dwarf planet and its moon. Some people would even argue that the Earth and Moon should be consider a binary planet system given that the latter is not drastically smaller than Mercury. Though at present the IAU hasn't officially recognised any binary planet or dwarf planet systems.

Thanks for reviewing my mod! I made the galaxy one, while you did miss quite a lot of things I am still glad of the publicity! Just pushed out a update that changes some textures and minor planet edits.
Cant expect a man to explore an entire galaxy by himself! Thanks for all the cool work! The galactic core was one of my favorite bits Ive seen so far. So cool to see in the Outer Wilds universe.

This is really cool. Forgotten city was a Skyrim mod that became a standalone game. I imagine something like that can happen if this mod continues to grow and become more versarile.

When heading for a custom planet in Outer Wilds, before anything else, launch the scout into the planet before you enter inside it, so you know whenever if it is safe or not.

This is awesome, It really could fit with the games scales and not be too too big still which is even better
It would be awesome if someone was able to add procedural planets
That's currently in the works. The asteroids in the video are procedurally generated, but its very bare-bones for now.

First time I watched this was on my phone in bed at like 2 am and for some reason any time you flew into a new planet's atmosphere it stressed me the fuck out lol
Any one of the gas giants will crush anything you send into it.
The only variable is far you can get before getting crushed.

I want to see someone make a mod that includes the planets in the after-credits scene. (They are inverted planets that each orbit a star.) I also want to see the bug creatures and lantern-carrying flea creatures that are in the after-credits scene. That would be super cool.

I REALLY want to play a space survival game where it has the physics and mini-planets of Outer Wilds! fortunately this custom solar system mode may be the prelude!

what are the other doctor who easter eggs you mentioned? i don't watch the show(s) so don't know i would have noticed them.
Personally I think the Owlks music house in the simulation sounds a lot like doctor whos music. And Gabbro mentions that they want to use the quantum phenomenon to create a statue that would show up behind people and scare them. In Doctor Who they have an enemy called the weeping angels. They are being that look like a statue that gets turned to stone if you look at it. But if you look away it can move. So its always showing up behind people and scaring them(or sending them back in time) much like gabbro says. They are called weeping angels but as i mention they statues when you look at them. And the saying in the show goes "An image on an angel(statue) is itself an angel". And this basically mirrors the rules they used for quantum imaging. Viewing an image of the quantum object is the same as viewing the object itself. So I feel like these are all sort of nods to doc who.

I can imagine eventualy someone making a fanmade story of a neighbor system (like the prisoner visions of the other systems when zooming out) with translated text and everything

They shouldnt be moving all in line like that unless they are stuck in a LaGrange point or something. They should all be moving different speeds and slightly different directions and whatnot. Looked weird to me

@@TheLoreExplorer yeah, their movement is unrealistic but having them all attract each other gravitationally would make it super unstable and tank performance, its the best compromise I think
@xen Yeah. Tbh I was surprised the simulation ran so well even without that extra chaos. I figured thats why they were all in the same orbit. Just explaining why my brain didnt accept they were just the asteroid belt until I locked onto them.

Lore, do you think more DLC's would be added for the game because of...money? Or the story's just complete and there's not much to see away from that? I really couldn't see the team of Outer Wilds working plainly because of money.
IF the story's complete, could you make a video of your theories? Like, a full narrated story of Outer Wilds? I saw many videos trying to do that but...it always seems like there was something off until the DLC. It would be cool to see the new updated story.
Theyve already stated there wont be another dlc. Ive covered both the dlc and story separately. But I could probably use this as an excuse to redo and combine the explainer series. Ill think about it

take a signal scope out and look for a silent signal... it's really loud when it's transmitting so don't boost the volume.
You found the planet? on one of it's "poles" there is the not so weird in this game thing...
exit the ship and take out the signalscope again... go through channels and listen to it...

enter it and get wonder what just happened.
