I fucking love what Avey does with his voice at 2:08, right after he says, "What the fuck is happening," that little vocal freak-out is so fucking excellent. Avey Tare is one of the most unique and interesting vocalists. Both sugary sweet, and screamy/messy. Love the song, it's beautiful, like pretty much all their songs.
Douglaa, great track you mentioned there. They might be having some similarities (avey and PG)...I'd never thought of that. - Do you like Avey's singing style?
+Douglas Ferreira I totally agree, there is something so... mysterious, evocative and even highly emotional about that wavery flanger effect on a human voice.
This is why I think the whole idea of there being a "proper" way to sing is partially bullshit. Because this vocal performance violates all those rules--it's clenched in the throat and teeth and often mumbled--and it sounds amazing as a stylistic choice. Anything can work within a certain context I think ^_^
I LOOOVE Avey's vocal inflections (is that the right word for it?)! He's the most dynamic vocalist I've ever heard, it's astounding and I aspire to one day reach his level of performance in general.
Really corny fucking lyrics, they're becoming a parody of themselves there. "unity", themes of being "bonkers", holy fuck thats so corny. I like the song though, it's decent, though has that same issue most anco songs have that it doesnt go anywhere
These guys have never given a fuck about what is considered "corny," what a shit analysis you've just given. The fact that they have ALWAYS taken risks and done/said things that many people would laugh at or call "corny" is one of the reasons they are so great. "Parody of themselves" lol really original, insightful criticism....
What do you mean "...issue most anco songs have that it doesnt go anywhere"? How much of anco's music have you listened to? I couldn't disagree with your statement more. Granted there are occasional anco songs that have this issue, but it's rare, e.g. people, natural selection. I would maybe agree with that statement if it were directed towards panda's solo work--although I do like his solo work still. I like this song okay--pretty and I like the melodies and the background vocal harmony. I do see your point as to how this song doesn't go anywhere though. It probably could use one more minute and maybe one more change or a denouement. I hope the other two new songs on the new ep have more dynamics.
To me, it sounds like something that they might have done like between Strawberry Jam and Merriweather Post Pavilion (so around Water Curses I guess?). I hear a lot of that era of their sound in this. And I'm LOVING it.
on a highway in particular is diary-like. god, that EP is maybe my favorite collection (with the exception of Bleed). but graze, WWIW?S and i think i can come off as broadly philosophical rather than anecdotal to me :)
After listening to this, I'm going to take a huge guess that Deakin is back! Not that I didn't like Painting with. That album was amazing! This just has That Deakin feel.
I think its part of the nature of this music to forget for a bit and then be able to come back an "re-discover" the amazing sounds of AC. Back again soon.
This is the official song of two dudes at the music festival having a conversation they keep dropping off and picking back up throughout the night while they're both tripping on acid.
Goddamn, I know exactly what this song is saying, lyrically. Every. word. Its rare to say 'i know what this animal collective song means, lyrically.' Always have to feel it out musically to make an educated guess on the words.
Sooo I'm happy to know I'm not the only going absolutely nuts over new AC. Also this, like painting with, brings back the vibes from feels (for me at least) which makes me verrrry happy. But really this song is fucking incredible. I've never heard anything like it.
I see they are going for tribalism. I preferred non-electronic tribal, (guitars and drums) but I'm not them, and like this song. Very interesting. But most of their past two albums are throwaways.
I mean, even if for some reason you don’t like animal collective, can’t we all at least agree that they’re undoubtedly one of the top ten most CREATIVE and original bands/groups of all time? I personally think they are but I think all of us here agree to that hahah just simply unbelievable as artists
It's an interesting track but it still feels underdeveloped to me and doesn't really reach the levels of craziness that I would expect from an Animal Collective track IMO. It's like I'm sitting there waiting for it to get bonkers but instead it only really teases me and hints at it. Could have been better as far as I am concerned but still shows the potential that the group has.
This feels like it was somewhat of a throwaway track that they made around the SJ/MPP era, but unlike say Mountain Game where it got locked in the vault since it wouldn't fit with a game's tone, this just felt like something they decided to release for no reason other than to have another song out. It's better than Painting With yea, but at least that song has Golden Gal, Floridada, Burglars, Vertical, and Lying In The Grass, which are tracks I'd much rather listen to
man this song would of been better if they saved that chorus just for the end. the chorus in the middle feels so awkward. I love the first verse so much
The Verve: life is a bittersweet symphony
AC: life is french toast
This is the music that the world needs right now.
i second this in 2020 (:
@Jake Andrews unity of all kind !!! 💥💥
This songs only been out 3 days and I've already listened to it like 20 times
I never got this excited clicking on a UA-cam video😁
This is what we need right now. Love you guys.
The world is fucking bonkers and I couldn't have said it better myself, AC.
synchronicites, complexities, it's like I knew this would be happening. pure, 'they get it'
Groovy!

I'm convinced it's a Rick Sanchez impression
I think that's just normal-voice Dave in excitement mode! He has one of the most pleasant voices on the planet.
sounds like that good ol animal collective
its the pop part only, its missing the 3 minutes long reverb/shoegaze infused intro/outro (not complaining tho, i love this song)
Oh my god they said the f-word
Wonk Nutt They said that in "Essplode" too :p
Will Creech AnCo cusses are r a r e, man.
Wonk Nutt Also in Laughing hieroglyphics.
They say "Fuck" in Guys Eyes too.
think of the children!
I'm smiling so hard.
luke jackson ditto
luke jackson me too
:)
missed those AC liquid slippery watery vibes
May Nam sponge bob vibe
I love the way he sings "It's like I knew this would be happening"
May Nam it reminds me of Peter Gabriel singing "Cuckoo Cocoon ".. that flanger-like effect is magical and timeless. just love it
Douglaa, great track you mentioned there. They might be having some

You guys are brilliant and have completely changed any kind of view of music for me. Thank you.
Sounds like The Beach Boys made music with the Native Americans
Yes! I dig this description.
Do you like worms? Always sounded like that to me.
3 years too late, but it's actually beats from Indian music they used! (Indians from India, not Native Americans)
"The" Native Americans. Lol
"The Blacks"
"The Asians"
@@stuajferguson At least he didn't refer to them as "the Indians"
I am probably on my two hundredth listen in 4 hours.
Ok, I think I kinda like it.
you might b kinda bonkers
big time bonkers man, I know, I know.
Hah, yeah my last 2 days of work have been this song on repeat!
I think at least half of the views are mine...
Vegan Master Chef they have released 4 songs this week so its been a good week.
crazy how far they've come
it's crazy how far they've fallen*
wish they would go back to their old style
Unfortunately you feel that way, as true artists obviously they're going to change their style
implying they've ever been consistent in their style
every single one of their albums are different they never had a style
They don't hit all the time, and that's fine...but when they hit, *they hit*
loving the tabla samples used, has such a older AnCo vibe to it
im probably he weirdest person ever listening to this to get hyped for a squat and deadlift.

Tuan Jim you're annoying as shit, any Stan is. passive aggressiveness seems to come hand in hand.

Great job, Brian Wilson!
lmao
Haha perfect!!

Getting some serious Fall Be Kind vibes. Can't help but love the few Avey yelps throughout.
Yeah. It feels very fall be kind.

This would go on greatest hits of an AnCo album if there is such a thing! I enjoy it so much, lyrically and musically.
First time I heard this song I was peaking on 2 tabs of acid and shortly after experienced ego death. It was beautiful
I like that they are getting creative with their vocals again. There is madness involved with it
Probably the best Animal Collective song of the 2010s. Next to Man of Oil, of course
Fire take ngl
Bit underwhelming for Animal Collective in my opinion
Edit: okaaaaaay it grew on me in the last week
HOLY CRAP IT SOUNDS LIKE MERRIWEATHER POST!!!!

WHAT THE HECK I LOVE YOU
their melodies get better and better each new release. they've become masters at crafting them perfectly
It feels like the ramblings of a dude tripping his balls.I love it.
Floridada used to be my favorite Animal collective song. But this one is really good too:)

Kinda feel like beach boys but makes me me high at same time.
You know Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys smoked weed and dropped acid, right? Check out The Beach Boys' "SMiLE". It's a really psychedelic album.
Yeah I've actually heard it already, I enjoyed it.
This song is what I think an ayahuasca trip sounds like.
This is the official song of two dudes at the music festival having a conversation they keep dropping off and picking back up throughout the night while they're both tripping on acid.
This is me. I am amber and I'm delightfully insane. Word salad makes sense btw. Too much sense .
Kinda Poggers 😳
This band is like if Tom-Tom Club, and the Beach Boys had a baby with the Talking Heads, and sent it to an avant-garde school.
474 people are kinda bonkers.
This is fucking great.
Kinda Brilliant! Om om om om om om om om, me me me me...
Kinda sad that they ended their pop-y phase after this EP, this stuff slaps
sadly was overhated :(

Apparently the stuff on Time Skiffs will be fairly accessible tho, I really like their accessible stuff
whats weird about this animal collective song is that its sounds like an animal collective song
OI ALGUM FÃ PRA SER MEU AMIGO
Es algo inusual pero mágicamente hermoso y adictivo.
I love the “what the fuck is happening???!?!?!!!!?”
reminds me of water curses!! especially the painting with version they played on the second leg of their PW tour
Imagine an animal collective song that we know all the words to!
Altos cortes tiran estos guachos.

Like if sounds very old school AnCo
Mike Kay I don't hear any abrasive noises and insane improv you're speaking of
3than I mean not THAT old school.
Merriweather isn't old school.
Clayton Wiles yeah ur probably right.
Are you seeing me? That sounds like White Zucchini.
The intro sounds like a mix between their album Centipede HZ and then it shifts into The album Feels. My two favorite albums.
What in the actual fuck it's been 3 years????????
I like Painting With, but this is better. Thank you AC!!
Animal Collective is the shit
not trying to be funny, this is how my anxiety looks and feels like. really loved it
