Schrage musik (jazz music) was very effective on British night bombers which had no ball turret and the German could sneak up under and rip it open. The antenna array is your clue that it is a night fighter, NOT for combating B-17s.
schräge musik does not mean jazz musik.. it means something like "strange/weird musik" or (because "Schräg" has two meanings) "at an angle" wich would make the most sence regarding the placement of the gun
Shreiga musike was accually wery efective and even hard for allied nations to detect/realise. The other one had both a gun and a rocet wariat. It was more on prototype side but it saw use and was effective
In real life it was used as an ambush weapon during night attacks against bombers flying in formation. In war thunder, there aren't many of those situations to come across. There was indeed an ace pilot who was very effective with it. He flew a bf 110 equipped with them. I'll add his name if I find it again. Edit: pilots name was Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer
And about the Schräge Musik in reality germans found it extremly efective especially in night interceptors such as Bf 110. The use of radar made a great combination as you can aproach the bomber expecting you above but you would just come under them and kill within seconds.
It takes some getting used to but the shreig musik is kind of handy in the game. Besides being able to sneak up on bombers. In a turn fight you can put the guns on without needing to put the nose on the target. Basically a half a turn faster. Play a bunch of assaults with the Ki-45 and Bf110s to learn how to use them. Yeah, this isn't worth buying.
there are a couple of planes in game that should have 30mm MK108 schräge musik cannons (he-219 & ta-154) but for gaijin reasons aren't in the game... historically it was very effective against bombers. if gaijin tweaked the aiming system just a little bit it could be much more useful... personally i like to go schräge musik hunting in the ki-45 japanese or premium chinese planes..
Tried it in SB. Actually was nice with the radar, though even in SB had limited to no success with the Schräge Musik. That said, I had one game with the Bf 110 G-4 where a very, very poor Stirling wasn't really paying attention, I sneaked up underneath, and obliterated it with the Schräge Musik, basically as it was supposed to work in real life minus it being daytime in WT... felt super-bad (for the Stirling), and super-happy (for getting a Schräge Musik kill) at the same time. To be fair on the "If there are no more bombers to go after, and your entire team is dead..." welllllll, if your entire team is dead and still 3 or more enemies still alive, even in a Bf 109 you'll have a hard time turning that game around.
I might have had a few to drink last night, was bored and wanted something weird and/or cool to fly. Bought the Fw 189 A-1 off the market and buzzed around in a few games with it. It is quite amusing and just cool looking. Certainly not a meta aircraft, but it's also lowbie so don't think there IS a meta.
Hey Tankenstein would you mind playing the F4D again i played with it and found it very enjoyable especially that they fixed the problem with riping wings off.
