- Here is the only way I would ever put fender flares back on any truck. This clear tape protects your paint from scratches that occur over time from dirt and debris. Get yours from SharpTruck in the link below. Please like, share, and subscribe. Thank you.

Excellent advice and video! Was about to install the Bushwacker Flares on my Fj Cruiser, but hesitated after hearing all the horror stories of paint scratches. Thanks for the solution 👍
Getting ready to put some Bushwhacker fender flares on my F-150. Thanks for sharing. I didn’t realize the flares would scratch my paint. Much appreciated bud. Great job on the video.
Good job, Gear. I may just put my flares back on my '08 Tundra using that clear tape.
Stinger45 This stuff definitely seems like it works well
Steady hand, good eye, nice job. You know Gear for the price of those flares the manufacturer should take the responsibility for selling a product that will NOT scratch our paint when installed. The problem is inherent in the product. I installed them on my 2008 Tundra, after 6 years removed them. The flares cut grooves through the clear coat and paint, only remedy was to repaint so I put them back on. There's no way I would install them again on my 2019. Remember the old adage; Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me....
Don Thecheech I understand that. Without a barrier such as this tape it can definitely do some major damage
"Alcohol is a miracle substance." 😆 Yes it is Andy, yes it is!
Cameron Brewster Yep both kinds 😂
I am just curious, why not use black electrical tape cuz it would blend in real well with the rubber gasket.
this is very important tips for protect paint. good job thanks
I'm tempted to try raptor liner under my flares. I believe the flares will eventually rub through the tape.
I’ve seen several videos of these flares, but now you eliminate the mudflap you’re basically defeating the purpose and I have seen a few once they put the flare on they reinstall the mudflap. And if I stand correct, the OEM ones from Toyota they still keep the original mudflap for both the front and rear wheel well
@@Lance-b2l Toyota eliminated my front ones before I bought the truck. It was the only way to clear 35” tires with the lift they put on it.
Thanks now I’m not afraid to add flares to my tundra
Mine wore right into the paint, you could feel the ridge in the paint. One place wore right through the paint entirely, can't believe the company don't include the tape with the flares
$120+ a roll!!!!! That's what I paid for my whole set of fender flairs!
Looks great. I’ll be interested to see down the road if the flares damage the clear tape🤔
RobMotive I will be doing a video after like 6-8 months or so
@@gearrunner how’s it holding up?
@@jtcindahaus it’s working great
Thank you I’m doing the same on my 2021 XP
Good morning gear!!! Great job
Big Moe Good morning Moe. This is the only way I would put flares on anything. Have a good Monday.
Hey man, Awesome video! I’ve been wanting fender flares on my FJ for a long time now and never did for fear of the paint rubbing off. After 3 years how is the film holding up? Is there any signs of wear on the film yet?
Thanks!
Not being a negative nanny or anything. But my question is over time would the grime wear through the tape and scratch the paint again? Granted it might take it longer to do it. I do love your videos. So keep up the good work. I have a 04 tundra with 189k miles. Debating on whether to wait on the 2021 model.
Buddy Lacey I am wondering the same thing. So I will be doing an update video in 8 months or so
I used 3M clear tape didn't work eventually it rubbed through and scratched the paint again.
I have been wondering if there was a product like this because I recently removed my flares and like you said, there are rub marks and in a couple spots the paint is rubbed to bare metal. How is it holding up today now that it's been on for over a year? I am going to be doing this with mine as soon as I get some parts repainted!
My flares faded and I had to replace them under warranty so I just took mine off about 5 months or so ago and the tape was holding up great
3m double sided tape would fix this problem from the start it would seal the fender flares to the truck and not allow it to move or flex or allow water/dust/dirt get in
Thanks for the video! I’ve been wanting to add flares but the flares on my last truck wore right down to the metal. After a year, how is this clear tape holding up?
It’s holding up really well. I definitely wouldn’t put flares on without it
Can holes be drilled in the plastic fender flares to let water out. Or will that let water in from the tires.
I'm just getting caught up on your videos and i realize i am asking questions about old videos. i hope you don't mind. i am on the fence about the fender flares. both for the reason of the scratches, and other damages I've seen and heard of, as well as i do like the look of the truck without them ( depending on the day i also like the flares more, I'm back and forth.) and i have a 2" offset on my wheels so i want the protection. my question is are you satisfied with the protection the tape provides, and did it hold up?
Steve Johnson I am, I’ll probably be posted a video next week showing how the tape is holding up but it’s doing a good job.
@@gearrunner great, thanks. ill be interested in seeing that. and if any other issues arise.
Can you send me the link for the blue tape for the fenders thanks
It comes with the kit
How much was the tape??
Installed mine with that yesterday
How long does this help with rubbing, and does it stay on in desert heat?
Mine has been on about a year and is still good to go. I have no clue about the desert heat because I live in the mountains but it lasted through out 90+ degree summer
@@gearrunner thank you
Why did you think after-market fender flares wouldn't leave scratches?
I didn’t think they wouldn’t, that’s why I took them off to see how bad it was then found a solution
I just had the bushwacker pocketed fender flares added to the truck. How to did you get the stock mud flaps add to the flares.
Do you know of any mud flaps that will work with Bushwacker pocket style fender flares on a 3'd gen Tacoma?
Awesome video Andy, question for you: do you think this would work with flares that use 3M double side tape?
Great video thank you.
Purrrrrfect.
Asaf Farfar Thank you
Those tires and wheels need some detailing Gear! Swing by and I’ll get you all cleaned up! 😁
Tundra Whisperer I think your a little out of the way 😂
I notice you have rubber on You're Fender flares my truck flares does it matter
I thought they all had the rubber gasket to help protect from scratching the paint
Did you ever do a update video?
You can get 3m protective film tape FAR less expensive top quality product.
What’s the width of the painters tape you used?
I can't believe no one has patented a product to go on the back of the flares themselves to keep from marring the paint. I don't quite understand why even a good 3M double-sided adhesion solution wouldn't work. You basically can't touch a set of fender flares for less than $300 a set and all you get is marred paint. This ain't rocket science.
phaT habitaT I totally agree. I have no clue why they don’t come with something like that for $1000 especially
Can you add clear silicone over the rubber seal also.
That's what I'm doing. Bead of clear silicone.
Why not just use two sides 3 m tape instead of rubber molding? That’s what factory does...
@gear runner
I don’t know that’s just the way Bushwacker makes them
@@gearrunner wondering if this would be a good way to go before I install these hmmm
@@mackredenbarger I don’t know, Maybe
I guess not quite understanding why would takes off flairs after you put them on
TEX They were really scratching my paint. This product stops that’s
Don’t have the time or the patience so no flares for my Tundra
Luv2smoke I understand that. If you ever decide to though make sure you pick some of this up
Daniel Yoder I looked at mine the other day and so far so good. I’ll probably keep an eye on it and see if that starts happening. If it does I’ll remove the old tape and apply new
Daniel Yoder Yep I can see how it cost that much. Mine did the same thing before I put on the tape. I tried to get the scratches out myself and did a lot of it but not all.
$87 bucks. Must be gold plated.🤠
Asaf Farfar Still cheaper than repainting your fenders
I was wondering why it was blue. So the blue one is a guide for the clear tape.
Asaf Farfar yep
Gear Runner I got all the info. Finally gonna break down and get me the factory fender flares....... I put it off long enough.
$83 !!!! That’s such a rip off! I found the same stuff for $25 on amazon! You just need to cut it down into thinner strips and a $3 dry erase marker will work fine as a substitute for the blue tape......really for the same $3 you could just buy a roll of painters tape to do the same thing! Lol! Great video though. Just hate seeing companies taking advantage of people.
Can you share the one you bought at amazon?
130.00....good Lord!!.....off to give plasma
They want $124 for the tape!!!! WTF
A hundred something for tape that will eventually get rubbed through?eff that 😆😆
It’s been a little over a year and it’s holding up great so far. I’d much rather pay $100 for some tape than $2,000 to have my fenders and bed side repainted.
$129 now 😢
Yea it’s not cheap but repainting every fender is way more expensive than that
@gearrunner oh no doubt. Just mentioning new price for the channel.
I was interested until I saw the ridiculous price tag for something so simple. $129 for a tape kit?! Are you kidding me!?
It’s still way cheaper than repainting your fenders!
Sales
That is expensive for tape!
It’s even more expensive to repaint all your fenders
@@gearrunner there must be about 1300 percentage markup on a less than 10$ roll of tape! I definitely think it’s worth doing it.
