Well, since you decided to "give Nightwish another chance", here are some info that may help you navigate (a short history of the band, concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just saw her. You are not going to get massive guitar solos with this band. It is a vocally driven band with one of the best singers currently (keep listening you will see why).

LOL, Hammerjacks. I used to go there in the 80s and 90s. I saw Pantera there in the 90s. This singer is the 6' or 6'1 (depending on who you ask) Amazon goddess Floor Jansen who is Dutch. She can sing rock, pop, metal, opera, growls, you name it. They also have a multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley who is from the UK. The rest of the band Jukka Nevalainen (drums), Emppu Vuorinen (guitar), Marco Hietala (bass, vocals) and Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) are from Finland. Jukka stepped down from drum duties and I believe is now managing the band. He has been replaced by his good friend Kai Hahto who is also Finnish. Tuomas Holopainen is the primary songwriter for the band. They have an amazing catalog of songs with a new live DVD due out later this year and a new album and world tour coming next year. Down the rabbit hole you go! :D

Hi guys! That was a fun reaction. Yeah, Nightwish (Finnish bad with a Dutch lead singer) have a wide variety of sounds. I'd recommend "Ghost River," "Romanticide," "Dark Chest of Wonders," and "Song of Myself" all from this amazing concert.

This is a LIVE band that can only be appreciated watching and hearing them LIVE and Floor the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal, all 6' 1" of this Dutch dynamo is the versatile singer you will ever hear. She is currently on a Dutch TV show and has sung 4 songs from 4 different genres in 4 different languages (German Opera aria, Dutch Folk/Pop, Spanish Salsa and English Country/Blues and each one has been awesome. This concert in Wacken, Germany was before 80,000 metal-heads and Floor was just made a member of the band before the show so this was her coming out party. This concert is terrific and anything off this set list is truly awesome from Ballads, Folk Metal, Metal and even Pop!!!

So far the band has had 3 vocalists 1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005) 2 Anette Olzon (Schwedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012) 3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of. Band members Tuomas Holopainen (The keyboard player and creative mind behind the band. He writes about 95% of the music and lyrics) Marco Hietela (the viking with the long beard (Bass and vocals) Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen (The drummer) Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (the hobbit like guitar player) Troy Donockley ( a multi instrumentalist from the UK) The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the worldtour a lot of what happened was recorded. Floor Jansen is different from the first two singers Nightwish had in that she is much more versatile. She can go from opera to growls and uses everything she has to give emphasis to the lyrics, but never too much of the opera or grows to bother most people. I've never heard anybody quite like her before.🤘👍

Of the three singers, Janssen's my favorite. Her voice is warmer than Turunen or Olzon's and I like that she doesn't just stick to opera in her style, though she has German lieder training. The '13 Wacken recording of "Ghost Love Score" has reviewed on many, many "vocal coach reacts" videos recently, mostly for the diversity of vocal style within one long song. I think that crowd gets to over 800,000. And they say rock is dying.
The singer, Floor Jansen, is fully capable of growling on par with Ginger. And like you... I don’t care for that technique lol. Thankfully she never comes close to doing that on Nightwish songs. With one of her other bands though she would bust out a full on growl. And if anything, it highlights why people say she’s one of the most versatile singers alive today. To go from pop, to rock, to operatic, to a death metal growl in one day is impossible for most singers. For her to do it all in one song is mind blowing.
Oh boy now you've done it. Tarja was the first singer and she is primarily opera. Annette, the second singer is primarily poppy. Floor is the third and is one of the most versatile vocalists you'll hear. She is Dutch and can do opera, Rocky, and even can toss a few growls out there too.

This is Symphonic Metal. Nightwish is mostly Finnish, but Floor Jansen is Dutch - not American. Nightwish singers have been Finnish (Tarja), Swedish (Annette), and Floor (Dutch). Nightwish is also popular all over the *world* and has toured in the US for over a decade. For the operatic contrast, seek the video of Tarja singing Phantom of the Opera with Nightwish. Despite the opera it is quite good. The metal additive is great. The rest of the commenters will fill in the blanks - they gather immediately when you play any Nightwish song - you have no idea what a flood you have unleashed.

And then Poet and Pendulum from Wembley 2015. With Nightwish you never know what you get: they have ballads like Sleeping Sun (Tampere 2015) or The Islander by Marco (Tampere 2015) or then While Your Lips are Still Red (Wembley), really heavy ones like Romantice (Wacken 2013), epic long songs with true symphonic vibe like The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley 2016) and Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere 2015). etc. But start with Ghost Love Score from Wacken 2013. Floor is classically trained, just like Tarja was, but unlike Tarja she chooses not to sing only opera. You can hear her singing in operatic style in many songs, but not really in this one. Floor has a notch wider range, especially in the lower register, so she can hit all the high notes beautifully when needed, but she can also growl, very low (e.g. Yours is an Empty Hope, Wembley), something Tarja never did. Floor doesn't do it often, however.

This singer is the 3rd one. The 1st was Tarja and the 2nd was Anette . Tuomas the key board player composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. They have been around for over 20 yrs. LOL, Hammerjacks. I used to go there in the 80s and 90s. I saw Pantera there in the 90s. This singer is the 6' or 6'1 (depending on who you ask) Amazon goddess Floor Jansen who is Dutch. She can sing rock, pop, metal, opera, growls, you name it. They also have a multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley who is from the UK. The rest of the band Jukka Nevalainen (drums), Emppu Vuorinen (guitar), Marco Hietala (bass, vocals) and Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) are from Finland. Jukka stepped down from drum duties and I believe is now managing the band. He has been replaced by his good friend Kai Hahto who is also Finnish. Tuomas Holopainen is the primary songwriter for the band. They have an amazing catalog of songs with a new live DVD due out later this year and a new album and world tour coming next year. Down the rabbit hole you go! :D

This is a LIVE band that can only be appreciated watching and hearing them LIVE and Floor the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal, all 6' 1" of this Dutch dynamo is the versatile singer you will ever hear. She is currently on a Dutch TV show and has sung 4 songs from 4 different genres in 4 different languages (German Opera aria, Dutch Folk/Pop, Spanish Salsa and English Country/Blues and each one has been awesome. This concert in Wacken, Germany was before 80,000 metal-heads and Floor was just made a member of the band before the show so this was her coming out party. This concert is terrific and anything off this set list is truly awesome from Ballads, Folk Metal, Metal and even Pop!!!

The music is called symphonic metal and i very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists
1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005)
2 Anette Olzon (Schwedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012)
3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of.

The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the worldtour a lot of what happened was recorded. Floor Jansen is different from the first two singers Nightwish had in that she is much more versatile. She can go from opera to growls and uses everything she has to give emphasis to the lyrics, but never too much of the opera or grows to bother most people. I've never heard anybody quite like her before.🤘👍

Of the three singers, Janssen's my favorite. Her voice is warmer than Turunen or Olzon's and I like that she doesn't just stick to opera in her style, though she has German lieder training. The '13 Wacken recording of "Ghost Love Score" has reviewed on many, many "vocal coach reacts" videos recently, mostly for the diversity of vocal style within one long song.

The singer, Floor Jansen, is fully capable of growling on par with Ginger. And like you... I don’t care for that technique lol. Thankfully she never comes close to doing that on Nightwish songs.
With one of her other bands though she would bust out a full on growl. And if anything, it highlights why people say she’s one of the most versatile singers alive today. To go from pop, to rock, to operatic, to a death metal growl in one day is impossible for most singers. For her to do it all in one song is mind blowing.

Nightwish is also popular all over the *world* and has toured in the US for over a decade. For the operatic contrast, seek the video of Tarja singing Phantom of the Opera with Nightwish. Despite the opera it is quite good. The metal additive is great. Floor is classically trained, just like Tarja was, but unlike Tarja she chooses not to sing only opera. You can hear her singing in operatic style in many songs, but not really in this one. Floor has a notch wider range, especially in the lower register, so she can hit all the high notes beautifully when needed, but she can also growl, very low (e.g. Yours is an Empty Hope, Wembley), something Tarja never did. Floor doesn't do it often, however.
