I love killzone 2, especially his weighty feel of movement and weapons
With weighty you mean laggy right
The devs said, they wanted to give the weapons of sense of weight. Was quite a pain in the ass in multiplayer though, which I still enjoyed alot.
@@DigitalDesires87 I don't think any dev would intentionally increase input latency to convey 'weight'. That is done through animations. This is the excuse devs use when they have an extremely complicated rendering pipeline with lots of post-processing, combined with a low target frame rate (30 fps in this case), results in crazy input delay, over 200ms, feels really floaty.
@@erikheijden9828 grow up. The game is amazing
@@johndodo2062it’s average at best
THE OPENING CINEMATIC for this game is one of the best CGI animated sequences in gaming. Every time I booted the game up, I never skipped it. Gave me chills and immersed me into the world without fail.
And I have to disagree about the story. I felt the (spoilers) twist with Rico at the end was quite shocking at the time.
The multiplayer in the game also was just… *chef’s kiss. Nice video guys. 👍🏾
Hmmm...I don't believe the opening sequence in Killzone 2 was CGI at all. I'm pretty sure the entire thing was in-engine. I don't know if you remember all the negative feedback the first Killzone trailer was shown at E3 but I do?
I was like most people when I we all yelled a collective "bull-*hit" at our screens. I also remember still being hyped because I believed in Guirella Studios (not anymore). However, my belief that the Killzone 2 trailer was fake CGI was instantly silenced the second I started up the game. My jaw was quite literally on the freaking floor. At that point I thought Sony couldn't touch Gears of War's visuals but holy good God I was wrong (had both the Xbox 360/PS3). It's a shame Guirella Studios sucks now and refuse (for stupid as* politics) to do another Killzone...it makes me very angry. Can you imagine a Killzone 1-3 Remake on the freaking PS5?! Day 1 purchase.
It's crazy how well Killzone 2's graphics hold up
It's also crazy how this came out in 2009
The game looks amazing when emulated. Wish Sony won't port the damn game to ps4 or ps5.
@@bluetooth2677 i agree and i don't have a PC to emulate it
@@rydog64 I can emulate, but would like native PC or PS5 port over emulating. The input lag is terrible when emulating.
@@bluetooth2677 I agree it would be nice if we did got re released
I dropped out of the gaming scene for a bit mid-PS2 era and this was one of my first games when I came back. Holy crap. Really made me feel like I'd been thrust into this sprawling urban conflict and was also my intro to online multiplayer.
Look I like Horizon Zero Dawn just fine but I wish Guerilla would remember this series does have fans.
You couldn't have said it better! A current generation game with all the bells and whistles would be epic.
If they made a new Killzone, they'd need to bring it back to this kind of gameplay. For me, shadow fall didn't match what made 2 and 3 good in the end. I still enjoyed it for what it was, but it felt like it strayed a bit too much from what made Killzone feel the way it did.
This is the game they should be remastering, instead of Horizon Zero Dawn...
Being able to play music while playing online was such great memories 😂
Killzone 2 is awesome and still holds up visually. The punchy feel of the weapons and the score and tone is superb. Killzone 3 is another solid shooter with some fun set pieces.
It does look good. And this is from 2009
@@rydog64 kz3 still looks better than most games today. It's that good
KZ 2s heavy movement felt so good to me, it made it very unique and gave an intensity to gameplay other FPS games lacked
Does anyone else remember the scripted E3 2005 gameplay trailer?
Killzone 2 was my very first PS3 game when I was 8 years old
I actually really enjoyed the first killzone despite its flaws, it was a unique game.
This was my game back in the day! The online was badass couldn't get enough of it
I got bored of horizon forbidden west half way through the game and stopped playing it. It's revolting that guerilla have completely washed Thier hands of Killzone. I was one of the few that loved the first one. They nerfed the ISA rifle of it's grenade launcher for 2 which was gutting but 2 is still one of my most favourite games of all time. Hard as nails aswell
Quality game, had some great battles online back in the day
A exceptional profile on my absolute favorite PS3 FPS game, a very fun & addictive challenging shooter that I wish like Hell they would remaster for current gen consoles, same with "Killzone 3"!
I remember seeing KZ2 and saying to myself "wow this looks much better than anything I have on the XB360" the atmosphere, lighting, shadows and sound where topnotch imo! I really liked Halo 3 but damn I wish it had a presentation like KZ2
Killzone 2 is an excellent game I still play it on my PS3 it came out in 2009 and the graphics hold up really well, the multiplayer is awesome too. Guerrilla Games need to bring back the Killzone series.
ABSOLUTELY!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Every FPS was called the Halo killer in 2006 I think. 😂😂
i remember not liking the controls at all, but then i got addicted to this game
I really liked the aesthetics and the world design, but the controls were crazy frustrating due to the insane input delay, extremely unresponsive.
Can't believe that Sony has not released a remastered version, 4K@60fps would be glorious I bet.
The multiplayer was brutally difficult but still fantastic.
I remember on the run up to the ps3's release there was a pre render for killzone 2 that looked amazing, was one of the first trailers to lead to the realisation that it wasn't gameplay as we were led to believe. Thankfully the game we got matched up to the hype.
It's shocking what 60 fps does to this series. I dream about playing these games in 4k, 60 fps. Currently the only way that comes close is emulation but it's not perfect. But playing the first takes it from decent to great and the second from great to incredible. I long for the day Sony gets off their ass and remasters these games for the ps5.
I like Killzone 2 for the story and environments, but Killzone 3 has better gameplay. The controls feel better in Killzone 3 than 2.
KZ2 is my personal favorite in the series but the last level in the campaign is a pain.
While Shadow Fall is not the best in the series and it could have been, it is the one in the series that stands out to me in terms of its musical score, particularly Lorn's compositions for it, and the visual style.
Otherwise; Killzone 2 is my favorite, and 3 has parts which I like too. I really hope this series, as well as Ratchet & Clank and Resistance, are brought to PC some day. Also, the original GoW games, and the original three Uncharted games. New Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy ports had lots of release date changes and lessening marketing, so they sold less than they would otherwise; I hope this doesn't dissuade Sony from porting older titles.
One of the few Playstation exclusives I would like to play. I'm not too fond of the formulas Playstation is holding these days. Kiilzone deserves a second chance and would sell like hot cakes if it was ported to PC!
No it wouldn't
It didn't "kill" Halo, but Killzone 2 was an excellent PS3 exclusive FPS. Probably my favorite of the franchise due to its grim dark tone.
Wouldn't mind seeing a spiritual successor, I've grown extremely tired of all the early 90s FPS games flooding the indie market.
Can only hope that Bungie works on Killzone since they were aquired by Sony. May not be likely but would be cool.
It was way better than Halo
It's a far better game then Halo after playing Killzone 2-3 i never went back to playing Halo lol
Damn I miss the series, the second is my favourite and I hope the series gets a reboot.
Killzone 2, 3 and Mercenary are the peak of this series.
They should have remastered this and 3 instead of the Last of Pus Part One
Killzone 2 (and 3) were absolutely incredible. I don't know about this 4 or 5 hours business for completion. More like 7-10 on a good difficulty. Killzone 2 (and 3) while not Halo Killers were the best FPS's Sony has ever had as first party games.
I got my Xbox 360 at launch in 2005 and PS3 at launch in 2006. I was always much more of an Xbox gamer and too me Halo was the pinnacle of FPS gaming during the 7th generation. However, the two Killzone games on the PS3 can definitely hang with Halo. They still to this day have the most visceral combat out of any FPS I have ever played. It's a damn shame Guerrilla Studios became completely useless after the 7th generation. Now, their games are just boring and center around the most uninteresting main character in all of gaming. At the very least they could have actually tried to make Alloy somewhat interesting like maybe Johanna Dark.
Dunno why I platinumed this, beating this on Elite was hell, but the Valor Grand Cross was easier because the population was so low by the time I did it.
I want to play this on PS5
The best multiplayer game on ps3
This was a good game, but not amazing. Graphics still hold up pretty well, though. My biggest problem with it though, was the frame rate.
Killzone has an incredible back story but to be honest the narrative was terribly executed.
That's a big part of why it failed to gain more mass appeal.
I loved the gameplay and parts of the story but i feel like they eliminated a lot of its own lore. They destroyed helghan which could have been an incredible opportunity. They destroyed the leader.
The only solution in my opinion is to reboot it with great writing
KZ2 was a fun game, no lie.
I played this last year as part of a challenge to play every game each character from PSASBR came from. And yes, the story was forgettable, i cringed at how a guy said a your mom joke which got him killed.
Nov 9 2022 @D Game inspirations r accidental
It's crazy to think this came out in 2009. Looks like a game from 2011 or 2012
Great looking game at the time on any platform. But it played like melted cheese 😐
The KZ games had the most bland storytelling, characters. It was wasted potential. Not to mention Gurilla Games wrote themselves into a wall by destroying planet Helghan. That was the most important and fascinating aspect of the Helghast lore, and now it no longer exists.
Watching someone play with a controller on a console always frustrates me.
OMG get over yourself!
I hate controllers too, but sadly, it is quite hard to play these on M/K unless you do some trickery via emulation, at least if you want good mouse aiming. Otherwise, mouse aiming will be equal if not worse than analog aiming.
Then Don't watch simple as that!
Did you lot delete your original Killzone reviews? Seriously I could've sworn you lot already did these. Unless you're revisiting these games, which hey isn't a bad thing. Killzone is awesome
Some things you didn't mention- the six-axis control for the sniper rifle is excellent (get it close and precise aim with motion control - no game has done it as well), the blood stains dry out an become more brown colored over time after gun battles.
Sniping in K2 was fantastic.
Thanks for giving me something to watch
If it only didn't have the shitty SIXXAXIS controls so it would be more easily accessible to more people on RPCS3.
When this came out, it was the best-looking console game ever. And it STILL looks good because the art direction is so good. They absolutely NAILED the dystopian aesthetic.
Doesn't do anything new???? Could you tell me all the shooters before it that had a cover system of any kind, let alone one this damn good? The graphics alone made all other shooters look bad, even halo
One thing I didn't like was the fact you could only carry two weapons and one had to be a pistol. Also didn't like that the alternate fire of some of the guns from the first game aren't in the second.
Still a good game though
Same here. It's really the only big flaw i found with the game. It's a pretty huge flaw though. I don't understand how anyone thought just having essentially one gun that can be swapped, was a good idea.
Killzone 2 always looked like a game you'd see in the background of a movie or something. Generic with a heavy reliance on visual effects that made knowing what you were doing difficult. The game had sloppy controls and intentional input delay. It's cool visually but man it sucks to play especially coming from the likes of CoD and Halo and even Resistance.
Yes the delay completely ruined it for me. I enjoyed Kz 1 and 3 though.
I swear Killzone 2 looks good even today. How?
Really good question. They really tried to emulate the e3 visuals and ended up doing an incredible job
@@JukemDrawles87 that E3 CGI presentation actually looks worse than the game itself, at least for me.
We need a remaster with multiplayer.
i hope they realese it on pc with kz1 and kz3
Unreal how well KZ2 holds up visually.
Killzone 2 aka Input Lag: The Video Game
It amazes me that there are still people out there defending that stupid design choice. 'Let's make the game unresponsive. - Woow it feels so HEAVY!!'
Killzone 2 is better than the original but not by much. Lackluster story, dull weapons, weak character development. Ultimately, it felt like a chore to complete. The best part was the online multiplayer.
It always disappointed me that they removed the magazine flip reload animation from the first game in both killzone 2 and 3, even though they kept the taped together magazines, which makes it even dumber
Ign called it the halo killer all on their own a year before release. Ign screwing people over yet again even all the way back then
Beautiful game. Still love the Killzone 2 online in 2023.
why is nobody giving it a damn score?
KZ2 multilayer was brilliant as well.
velaskwez
The worst playing fps on any recent console by far. Killzone 1 and 3 are okay, but 2 plays like you're streaming a game with a shit internet connection.
It's really not but okay dude
The graphics were truly jaw dropping at the time
Especially in the E3 trailer
@@erikheijden9828 bait and switched but still happy with the end product
