The trilogy is finally complete! Thanks to all of you that watched and joined me on twitch, but I have one more Killzone game to go! I'll be focusing on shadow fall next, and I'll be streaming it just like I did the others. Come follow if you want to join me! www.twitch.tv/jarek4gamingdragon
I honestly had a hard time playing this game on ps3.it wasn't because of the frame rate,it was because of the goddamn controller.maybe it's because I came from pc/Xbox 360 but damn it was uncomfortable.but overall it was a solid game.it honestly would have done better on the Xbox 360 but that's just my opinion.anyways, nice video.
I have no way to record mercenary. Recording a vita requires a Playstation tv. You used to be able to find those for $30 refurbished but now the cheapest you can find them are $80 used and $150 new. So unless someone loans me their PSTV with a vita card it's unfortunately not possible. As for liberation, I have it on PSP and it's fun but it's not traditional killzone so I'm not really too interested in taking the time to make a video of it.
Really appreciate you for reviewing this game series. Its one of those games were I consider decent yet I really love the concept and would really like to see a reboot in the future to give it the treatment it deserves.
Vekta was kinda the only route from other planets to Earth so they charged a lot. Earth didn't like that and invaded them and kicked them out to Helghan.
Killzone Deserves the GOD OF WAR treatment. Guerilla Games is learning new things with their newest franchise.. Let's hope they use everything they learn to make the ultimate killzone game.
NO. it actually deserves the Halo Collection and Gears Remake treatment. Those games were remade for the X1 with updated graphics and redone textures. And they brought back their multiplayer modes. Thats what KZ2 needs. I want its fully functioning multiplayer back on the PS4. Of course I want a real KZ sequel (not that trash spin-off garbage Shadow Fall). But if M$ could bring back Halo 1 and 2 on the X1 with their multiplayers and Gears of War, why did Sony ever do it with KZ?
what i really liked about killzone 2 was the amount of detail when you were shooting enemies.. i could replay the same level using different weapons and see the different ways the enemies reacted to them.. it was most of time a different outcome and so it felt like the weapons had such a great punch
As far as my memory goes, KZ2 was the first 1st-person-shooter I’ve played on PS3, I liked the grimness and hopelessness in the atmosphere of the earlier parts of the game, while the gameplay, or the voice acting, or AI are nothing to boast about, I grew with Killzone 2 and that’s why it stuck with me all these years. When I got my hands on Killzone 3 I was all over it, beside the metal gear series, it was the game’s campaign I replayed the most, specially the co-op splitscreen mode. The multiplayer was also fun and fast-paced, and gave me, alongside Resistance 2, the most fun I’ve had in a multiplayer shooter.
Killzone 3 has in my opinion one of the best themes in gaming. The menu theme "And Ever We Fight On" is so damn beautiful and epic. It's unfortunately really underrated
I hope Geurilla Games comes back and revises the Killzone franchise after a few more horizon Zero Dawn games. I feel like they are learning a lot more with their new game
@@Kujer708 I hope so too. From my understanding they are expanding their team and could possibly be working on two projects. The first obviously being a new Horizon game and the second could be a new Killzone game. Who knows, we just have to wait and see
personally, if they're going to do that, they're going to need to retcon everything after the end of Killzone2's midpoint. It would also be nice to have Luger and/or Hakha back, with some Helghast pov from a lower level than we've had.
Killzone 2 had a gritty sci-fi theme, compared to Halo the characters are "less epic" yet the feel of the whole thing is quite more "grounded" in many ways. I still prefer Halo as a series, and honestly I like the bad guys more than the good guys in Killzone ^^'
Tjats what this guy is missing he wants color for what. It doesn't mesh with the theme nor does it convey what is supposed to be reflected. Killzone 3 just wasnt good at all in this aspect. The war torn dark fumy skies of a war torn gritty alien planet encapsulates you and immerses you into the anguish of war. No other shooter did it as good as kz2. This little kid talks about people being to young being the reason why they liked KZ2. Everyone ee ran with in kZ2 back in the days today are in their 30s/ 40s and some late 20s. This dude sounds like he barely hit 20 years old. He laughs at no innovation in KZ2.....right there i knew he didn't have an objective standard of assessing things. Kz2 had the weighty feel in its controls which no other shooter was doing and the warzone game mode and balanced team based gameplay was the first amongst fps shooter to do so. Most shooters including Halo were loadout based and no game has done the warzone with random objectives which kept you on your toes. Deployable spawns, etc
@@helghast_9539 Some of my favorite shooters of all time are Rainbow Six Vegas, Battlefield 3, Red Orchestra 2, and killing floor so no. I far more enjoy games like Half-Life and F.E.A.R. over boomer shooters. Also, I'm 30 years old. You literally could not be any more wrong. What I hate are spunkgargleweewee style games which killzone very much so is. It absolutely is not "weighted and grounded." If you actually wanted a game with that feel you'd be playing something like Red Orchestra or a proper tactical shooter. TL;DR You're being a massive fanboy, killzone didn't age well, and you only think so highly of it because you played it over a decade ago.
If you want to know: the main multiplayer aspect was a game mode similar to Battlefield's operation mode. But what was really nice, in my opinion, was that, depending on how good you were, you had the chance to be featured in cutscenes between objectives. And the end of match would usually include the winning team's MVPs execute the losing team's MVPs, along a short speech of either an ISA or a Helghast Commander.
Killzone 3 was the first online shooter I played and it was in 2012, when I was 15. Pretty late I know but now after 6 years to be honest I still look back at it with fondness, the setting, sounds, animations, gameplay. I really liked it all, but that's just memories, things could be different now if I played it.
I still have the game after 7 years I hope that Killzone makes a comeback I still like this Game after 7 years I hope that One day People will come back to revisit this Game.
I'd say its the setting you know. The Helghast being like Nazi's and ISA being the Allied forces. "Good" vs "Evil". Its kind of like a Sci-Fi version of bits and pieces of WW2. Thats what i liked about it anyway. The guns feel and sound really cool too. The MP on 3 was pretty decent.
I remember loving this game, specially the jetpack level. I went for the platinum too, but couldn't get people to help boost with the multiplayer trophies, and before I knew it they closed K2/3's servers, so now I just have an incomplete platinum on my profile forever lol
Killzone 2 looked really great bearing in mind its epoch and its platform. They went for a general aesthetic that I understand can't be to anyone's liking but the art direction was stelar all throughout and let's not forget some sections did feature a lot more color. It was not all a prelude to fifty shades of grey. On gameplay grounds I have to say being accustomed to PC shooters complicated my experience with Killzone 2, it's not about the controller which I never had any problems with, it's more about latency this time. Framerate wasn't always steady as well but from memory nothing truly hindering the sense of immersion. Rather the very noticeable delay in input is the reason why I don't look back at Killzone 2 very fondly. It soured the entire experience for me. Now that begs the question : where is my Killzone 60fps remaster Sony ? That is the first thing that should have gone through their mind when releasing Killzone Shadow Fall which is....serviceable at best. I think I'd gladly replay Killzone 2 at a solid 1080p/60fps.
As an old bugger I grew up with Doom and Quake but Killzone 3 Botzone is the best fun I've ever had in a shooter. I love using the revolver and running around dropping proximity mines and ambushing. The game play is okay but Botzone is great.
The way I remember the story the Helgast were descendants of a Human corporation granted control of two planets by the Human central government. (I think they were in the same solar system.) One was the planet the first game took place on which was Earthlike. The other was an irradiated hellhole. Eventually the Central government tried to alter the agreement and when the corporation protested it led to a war. The corporation lost and the survivors were exiled to the hellhole where most of them died and the survivors mutated into the Helgast. And eventually the Helgast came to reclaim their own world and seek revenge.
KZ2 was waaaay harder than KZ3. FOV for KZ3 was atrocious. Glad you mentioned KZ2's input lag. It was unforgivable and one of the main reasons why it was a much more difficult game, imo.
The one thing I really liked about killzone 2 and 3 was that the weapons just felt meaty to fire, as well as impactful when you hit someone. I was willing to overlook a bunch of things since to me they got the shooting right
I played both Halo and Killzone (and I was a Halo head before 343i happened), and I always felt the controls for Killzone very stiff. Visually, yeah, they were impressive and way better looking than the Halos up to Reach, but the controls felt like I was firing nail-guns with no impact whatsoever. This is where Killzone lacked and Halo thrived, in it's gameplay core. Heck, even Halo CE felt way more natural playing than Killzone 3. Regarding Innovation, yeah, they didn't innovate that much because you had already a heavy established FPS market in the PC, and Halo was the go-to on consoles, and later on CoD. Killzone was always on the afterglow because of that, the controls. People care a lot more for game controls than visuals, and Killzone is a testament to that. And I love the Killzone franchise, I think the Hellghast are cool enemies, and the lore is fascinating and credible.
The Multiplayer is what i think those people were talking about when they were saying that the game was very memorable. I do love the story of this Franchise, but the main memories that i have from playing this game were from the multiplayer. Offered something really different back in the day.
This is one of those games where you die and start over literally 100 times in the same area because the cover positions are laid out poorly, the enemies are bullet sponges and the controls are garbage.
(short): Lore-wise: Hrm. considering (heh....even in KZ02-KZ03 levels, and let alone the KZ01 levels of the (costal guard-y-like) ISA's (ISA Vektan branch) strength) that we play as an ISA (ISA Vektan branch) 'elite' soldier only, Against those Rebel colonists....).
I remember that you could also play Killzone 3 in 3D and that experience was great as I remember, even though the performance and resolution were lower overall. I enjoyed it a heck of a lot!
i remember watching reviews for this game when i was young and poor ( i couldn't afford a ps3) , now i have a 2080 ti . Fight for your dream's kids !!!!
I remember this game being super hyped when PlayStation Network was a thing. There were unlockable outfits, a minigame, and a modified version of the main area that looked like a war zone. For me it was really cool, and it makes me sad that I can't go back to it anymore.
Never understood why PlayStation didn't embrace this title like it was their version of halo,I think they could do alot with killzone but that's just my opinion.
I think i loved it mostly for the mood. There was a certain atmosphere in KZ2 . The planet we were invading was just so bad and unwelcoming, yet people lived there. Prior to KZ2 i played a lot of Halo and noticed the similarities. Still i agree with you: it was not revolutionary in any way. One thing that was fresh for me is the changing of game modes in multiplayer without the need to reload the map. I liked that a lot. Guns felt great too.
I absolutely loved 2. I played the snot out of it. Never got 3, and now I'm sad that I didn't. Maybe RPCS3 will develop far enough one day to where I can emulate it.
I remember plying this as a kid and every time I tried to launch the last mission, my console would freeze. I guess it was the gods saving me from committing global annihilation and a sudden confusing ending
I would really like to see a remake of the first Killzone onto PC. It had so much potential but was so limited in its gameplay an mechanics including visuals. That though is just my opinion so most likely no one is going to consider my suggestion.
I first played this game in late 2018, well after adapting to PS4 and coming from a decent gaming PC set up. But playing through kz3 was the quintessential PS3 experience and this game went hard. I sniped a VC9 missile in front of the Hig that fired it, killing him in the process.
Looking back at all the times I played the campaign in vet difficulty...It was really difficult i never noticed but hell it was difficult I mean my all of my broken controllers will speak for me
I like the Killzone series, but no way was it influential enough to change the FPS genre. Maybe it had a minor impact, to some degree, but it wasn't that kind of game.
I don't know why but when I was about 10 I remember really enjoying killzone 2, and when I was 12 or 13 I remember not enjoying killzone 3 as much as 2, and forced myself to play it more, I don't remember why
Excellent review. You may not like gimmicky controls, but you didn't mention that KZ3 supports PS Move motion controls. I agree, it's a gimmick, and extra investment (luckily the kit are dirt cheap now), takes some time to get used to, but once you do get used to it, it's much better than playing it with a regular controller IMO. In KZ3 is much better implemented than in, for example, Resistance 3. It's a shame that Sony abandoned the PS Move altogether for the PS4, and didn't implement it on its exclusives, like KZ: Shadow Fall. Nintendo, at least, retained wiimote support for the Wii U for some games (CoD: Black Ops II and Cod: Ghosts come to mind), besides its backwards compatibility with Wii games. You may not agree with me, but that's one of the reasons why I don't have a PS4. I kinda want to, but It's just a very bland platform for me.
I personally did not like a few of the designs, weapon or character. I kind of had a problem with how much they had been changed since the first. I see that again as i watch this. But i digress. It was still a nice game overall. 😃 Childhood!
I launched this and 2 first time in years and they still look pretty good. Sadly without multiplayer with servers shut down these games are just gallery shooters. I remember launching kz2 and only playing multiplayer without touching sp for a month.
A lot of the people in the comments are speaking out of nostalgia or never played anything past cod. I mean if you’re super casual ATLEAST go play battlefield and see that the bar is higher than cod. Jesus Christ
Lmao I used to think killzone 3 was mediocre and 2 was great, as a kid you really have no judgement huh, although I do remember liking the ending to 3 because of how weird and morally grey it was
Killzone 3 multiplayer was pretty good the objective based mode was a lot of fun although a bit unbalanced but the game as a whole wasn't really innovative but it was a great game imo
I always had the feeling that this game wasa unfinished, not only because of the ending but also because of the very short campaing. Also, if I remember well, one of the main characters from kz 2 doesn´t appear or never speaks.
The problem with Killzone is that the Helghast were marketed as space Nazis, when in reality they were just struggling to survive after being repeatedly fucked over and stuck in a shitty planet. You were actually the bad guy in the games, but Guerrilla was not able to show that because marketing already made them nazis so showing the Helghast in a positive light would have been conflated with them being Nazi apologists lmao.
Most influential FPS games Half Life Half Life 2 Doom Call of Duty Modern Warfare Halo Combat Evolved Halo 3 Counter Strike Quake Killzone 3 isn’t even close.
@@somebody4877 Bro, it's painful to see when you're being a sony fanboy. Halo was one of the most influential FPS franchises of all time. Killzone's first game was even dubbed the halo killer and failed horribly. Killzone 2/3 chased cod. Killzone doesn't deserve to be any where near this list.
When I first played this I thought this could have been a halo killer if it came out first.. lol that wouldn't have happened ever killzone was doomed from the beginning
the isa's side of the conflict has come to a conclusion. We get it, they tried to do the right thing through the wrong methods and people paid the price. Now i want to see what drove the helghast to war. (According to the lore the helghast originally colonized Vecta, but when earth gov saw how valuable it was they wanted it and ultimately forced the helghast out when they refused to give it up. Allot of potential for story building with this sentence alone)
Killzone Mercenary(PS Vita) is the only Killzone that genuinely impressed me, probably because it was on a handheld, and managed to be halfway decent, it's a shame the Vita was such a dud, it's a fun game to play in multiplayer.
The only thing I remember about K2 is that fucking vignette filter! is the player character squinting slightly because of Helghans shitty atmosphere? I liked killzone 2 back in the day but your vision Is felt so constricted.
Bro i was young when i played this but all remember is that my controls where fucked like it was like L3 or R3 to aim and like L1 to melee and i was like what?!?!?! I barely remember but i might have had my control preset fucked but ehhh its whatever now

Killzone mercenary mp is dope.
Bot matches where awesome.
Killzone3>Killzone2 any day. The controls are MUCH better in KZ3 too
I don't know why but when I was about 10 I remember really enjoying killzone 2, and when I was 12 or 13 I remember not enjoying killzone 3 as much as 2, and forced myself to play it more, I don't remember why
those aliens at 3:50 are lifted right from the HL1(Tentacle)
Killzone 2 was the first online shooter I ever played but even at 10 years old I knew the game wasn't innovative.
right.
Ive always found the gunplay feeling a bit weird but the athmosphere and world are great...and the design of the space nazis are cool as hell
I liked executing revivable people in multiplayer
PS move is integrated with psvr
KZ3 online multiplayer was, indeed, fantastic!
I think the best way to fix that reliance on heavy weapons is to make it so you can only refill that weapon once or twice per level.
In my opinion, I believe Killzone: Mercenary has the best story in the series.
If God of War 2018 is PC able, why Killzone trilogy can't be like that, especially Killzone 3 ?
Because Gorilla is pimping out their HDZ game.
Him:you deep bad for Rico
Me who is still pissed off about all the times he could've revived me but didnt
I personally did not like a few of the designs, weapon or character. I kind of had a problem with how much they had been changed since the first. I see that again as i watch this. But i digress. It was still a nice game overall. 😃 Childhood!
I loved Killzone 3, the multiplayer was fun aswell. I absolutely decimated on that. I loved Killzone 2 aswell. But yeah there are better shooters.
I launched this and 2 first time in years and they still look pretty good. Sadly without multiplayer with servers shut down these games are just gallery shooters. I remember launching kz2 and only playing multiplayer without touching sp for a month.
I didnt play online until around 2009, thats strictly down to the fact that the internet was so shite in my area
A lot of the people in the comments are speaking out of nostalgia or never played anything past cod. I mean if you’re super casual ATLEAST go play battlefield and see that the bar is higher than cod. Jesus Christ
This game was my childhood
“Had this released on PC…” yup KZ 2 & 3 would have been superb on PC with more power, FOV slider, mouse aim, and more importantly mods!
To add insult to injury this was a fairly expensive game at that time. They could have been a lot better or postpone it at least a year
Killzone 3 multiplayer was too good. I’m not a big multiplayer guy but I lost a lot of hours of my life to that.
I always had the feeling that this game wasa unfinished, not only because of the ending but also because of the very short campaing. Also, if I remember well, one of the main characters from kz 2 doesn´t appear or never speaks.
They literally just cliff hangered this game to sell the Playstation 4 and Killzone Shadowfall
Why did everyone love kz2 so much? They didn't it had a quite small community and I was one of them.
I've played every game in the series and couldn't bring myself to finish any of them.
Funny as Halo came out in 2007 and it had online Coop online play in Xbox Live
Most influential FPS games
Half Life
Half Life 2
Doom
Call of Duty Modern Warfare
Halo Combat Evolved
Halo 3
Counter Strike
Quake
Killzone 3 isn’t even close.
Killzone didn't make it, yet halo 3 is there😂. Also, dont post your opinion if you are just trying to piss people off
@@somebody4877 Bro, it's painful to see when you're being a sony fanboy.
There is a an after credits scene where the evil one survives
I'm aware, it made the ending even worse
Killzone 3 is incredibly buggy. The game likes to crash at the worst of times, and there's more than that. But I still like the game.
@@gabenewell3955 yea me too its a very well made game that it doesnt lag or crash
If this game series didn't have the worst aim curve of all time I probably would want a new one.
the isa's side of the conflict has come to a conclusion.
KZ3 is good cause of the multiplayer tbh
The only thing I remember about K2 is that fucking vignette filter! is the player character squinting slightly because of Helghans shitty atmosphere? I liked killzone 2 back in the day but your vision Is felt so constricted.
Missed Opportunities: The Franchise
Bro i was young when i played this but all remember is that my controls where fucked like it was like L3 or R3 to aim and like L1 to melee and i was like what?!?!?! I barely remember but i might have had my control preset fucked but ehhh its whatever now
I wish it was on PC.
Some awesome multiplayer too, don't forget
11 years later..
This game animation seduced me
Imagine a 1080p 60fps on ultra settings mmmmm that would be nice
I havent made it past the 2nd stage of killzone. Didnt grab me.
Phssssss doesn't even run in 720p it's like 544p
One of the Helghast high command kinda looks like JBP 🤣
That bullpup ar15 tho lol
Everything controls better then Killzone 2.
