I feel that has a large part to do with how ridiculously high of might the bolt axe has than anything else. Yes, she also has fiery blood to boost her damage output, too, but I think even that wouldn't make that big a difference without the bolt axe's high might of 14
@matthewkuscienko4616 2 magic at base, with 14 Mt, fiery blood active = 20 ATK. That's strangely not a lot, she'll be doing 8 or 16 dmg or smt. I don't know why I've observed such high damage from her as well then
Rinkah is super cool! I'm working on a slightly similar vid on my own so glad for this opportunity to line my thoughts up with yours (and Scepti's, though I already asked her seperately lol) I found myself mostly using Horse Spirit for larger groups of enemies since Bolt Axe was often overkill, and the enemies she struggled to kill with were mostly on the green end of the weapon triangle (Adventurers/Sorcerors) where Bolt Axe just made any problems she already had worse. Usually during these BR vids you mention how most enemies are mixed physical and magical, and I found that that can really put a damper on Rinkah's tanking powers as just one or two sorcs in a group can give her trouble. Nothing you can't solve with Dual Guard tricks, or even (credit to Scepti for this one) a buyable Silence use, but still painful. Depending on what point of the game we're talking, how many levels Rinkah got, and how much +mag you gave her through the various means Fates provides she does seem to struggle to ORKO the higher res enemies. Which is fine if it's just 0 dmg Adventurers but can be annoying when it's actually threatening enemies. Also surprised to see no comparison to Rhajat, who I feel like is the best lategame Oni by a mile. But since she's a child unit I guess it was a little outside of the scope of this video. Definitely agree Rinkah's tankiness is ridiculously good though, she's just invincible for a large stretch of the game, and not even far from onerounding early on if you're willing to go with an investment package (str+spd tonic + Kaze pair up + personal got her there for me in Ch7 iirc).
I usually find that if you're ok with playing at a pace that's a bit slower than minimizing your expected turn count, her bolt accuracy while not great is still good enough to make it safe for your flunky squad to advance. Those guys can pick off survivors like the red units, heal rinkah from any magical hits, and clear a path if one doesn't already exist. Rinkah is generally going to be a pretty safe pick for these strategies since even in mixed groups, there's only really going to be 2 or sometimes 3 magic users. I do really value her incredible matchups against physical units since on any given turn, there's usually at least one side of the map that's almost exclusively physical, and Rinkah is usually the best unit for the job. Camilla's chapter and Pleasure Palace are the two big maps where this isn't really the case.
I think the reason why is because they usually judge units by their first impressions and just either instinctively go with them or ditch them. And this if before some players slowly started to developed patience and see what they are actually capable of. Rinkah at first I thought was too inconsistent for my liking but then after getting her axe rank up to D by chapter 5 which is doable, she can now better contribute to the team. You just need to get her out of her awkward starting block.
Married Rinkah when I was a girl bc I thought she was pretty, and believed everyone when they said she was bad. Recently played BR again and used her as a "meme unit" only to find out she can easily crush the entire game with minimal effort and never have I felt so lied to.
I typically pair her with Kaze because I have Rinkah pass down Salvage Blow to Midori while Kaze passes down something like Elbow Room. Midori's personal ability Lucky Charm adds an additional 20% chance of any skill procing that factors in well you know (luck). SO this does make Midori effectively a farm bot. I really wanted to be entertained at least at the thought of her spawning weapons with everyone she defeats. Plus like Kagero, Kaze can grant her the same benefits when paired up. 4 Skill, 6 Speed, (1 res but meh) and 1 move are nice for her. Though yeah she herself usually wants to be with Ryoma or even Kayden which is good for them if not better. I also think the the older posts and analysis posts on optimal pairings kind of went of on "works in theory" for me. While some of them do end up being very good, it depends on what angle you look at it. Like why Ryoma x Kagero? Kagero gives Ryoma move +1 as a pair up bot. Why Ryoma x Rinkah? Rinkah gives him Strength and Defense via pair up and Lancebreaker via Marriage Seal. and so forth. I think that maybe if people waited a few years when the meta develops as opposed to a few months in which a (Mekkah) pitfall I notice people fall into, maybe we could have had more detailed discussion. Anyways, I do want to try Rinkah x Ryoma just for Ryoma to be as close to as unkillable as possible at some point.
I've been addicted to replaying FE Fates (I recently beat all 3 again recently, replaying Conquest again literally right now), and this vid makes me really wanna try magical girl Rinkah. Fates is just so fun to customize, and the dopamine I get from pulling off new builds is nuts. I look forward to more of your vids! Makes me look at certain units in a new light.
Same, I love trying new builds especially in Conquest. Recently did a Spear Master Jakob through Corrin marriage and he easily one rounded Oboro and soloed the bottom right side of chapter 10, plus i get to pass down lancefaire to Dwyer 😍
The Abyssal Bloodlines mod adds Rinkah to Conquest (joins with Kaze) along with some other difficulty enhancements (albeit more so in other routes) and I've been having a blast. Feels like a new game thats still balanced!
I probably got a lucky Rinkah in my playthrough cause she was getting strength, speed, and defense almost every level up. So she got really good pretty fast for a physical unit. I made her an Oni Chieftain, but I haven't used her magic much cause the physical enemies couldn't do much to her without a killer weapon. Making a magic Corrin didn't work out for me cause he/she got magic screwed in both my attempts. Much like my Byleth, Corrin just wants to level HP, strength, and speed 9/10x. I'm sad how severely nerfed Byleth got compared to Robin and Corrin when trying to make the MC a magic class. Cause Byleth doesn't get any good spells, the upside is that he/she can reliably double with spells
I’m currently doing a BR run where I aim to have a full team of Oni Chieftains or Blacksmiths by endgame, and my Rinkah is like -5 on her defense average but still eats enemies up. I’m pretty sure she’s fairly magic blessed as well, so it’s just a really strange Rinkah overall that nonetheless does great work with Great Knight Silas to make up for my horrid luck with her Def growth
ive done a lot of revelation and some BR runs lately, usually limited or challenge runs to some extent, and rinkah is a unit that my view has improved a lot upon. natural access to bolt axe and having high defense really helps and if she fell off, she makes for good backpack.
It'd be really cool to use malig rinkah but in birthright that requires using male dragon corrin and using his marriage on her. Kinda sad. I feel like despite getting tomefaire birthright mages are pretty screwed by not getting access to everything conquests mages get.
Let me guess bolt axe one rounds even without a magic stat when you double so you’d always prefer it to be wielded by a fast bulky unit and rinkah has the advantage of having excellent availability in comparison to other options.
I know you only brought up Replicate as a passing suggestion, but with her fantastic pair-up bonuses, she can benefit from her own pair-up bonuses, so you’re getting both the great stats and the pair-ups, all on the same unit!
"When you think of mages in birthright, you probably aren't thinking of Rinkah" Her strength disappoints me constantly, you'd be crazy not to run a magic weapon on her imo
I’m doing my first proper birthright run currently. I was wondering, are the child units worth trying to obtain at all? Definitely going to be watching these videos because I want to find interesting ways to use the cast. What I’m getting from this video is to pair rinkah up with orochi
I know this is a Birthright vid, but I feel it should be mentioned due to it being about Rinkah and her availability in Branch of Fates. If you are playing Conquest, DO NOT USE RINKAH. Any rewards gained from combat, whether they be weapon training, support points or exp are COMPLETELY wasted on her, as she will leave your party permanently when you side with Nohr. This is different from Kaze and Azura, who will rejoin you on certain chapters in Conquest, allowing you to start off with C-rank Support with both of those characters.
This issue seems a little outside tge scope of the video, since this series is mostly to spotlight Birthright which tends to have little discussion compared to the other two routes. But yes. If you're setting up a Branch file to go into Conquest and even Rev, Rinkah is best used as a backpack in Ch.4 and 5
Why Rinkah is considered bad? First, Branch of Fate is the absolute worst introduction for her - in ch4 there are tons of defensive terrain, which doesn't help when you're using the least accurate weapon type and in ch5 every single enemy has weapon triangle over her, which make her hit rates very unreliable, a bad thing against enemies who hit like trucks. Add the fact that she's one of the two units in BoF that doesn't exist in one of the routes and unlike Sakura, Rinkah does compete for exp with others. Second, starting with E rank axes for whatever reason - the only other units that start with E rank at base are Mozu (a trainee), Azura (utility) and BR Sakura (non-combat). The game also doesn't communicate very well that she's a good magic unit - and by very well I mean at all. Her reclass is a physical class and her personal magic is 1/15%. So naturally people would use her as a physical unit instead and be disappointed by her performance. Third, her Rev incarnation. Granted, most unpromoted units in Rev are unusable at base, but Rinkah has it especially bad. Enemies in Rev are stronger than in BR, so her low hp is more of a concern, she does 0 damage in her join chapter at base without her personal skill and is by far the best used as backpack in that chapter (she can't double even with a spd pairup, while other units can do damage with +4 str), which likely contributed to the whole "Rinkah is just a backpack". Four, she's good in by far the easiest route, where lots of units can work and blend together when it comes to viability far more than in CQ or Rev. So all in all, lots of bad first impressions and poorly communicated concepts. It's kinda like with Wolf and Sedgar in Shadow Dragon - they are completely worthless in their base class and contribute next to nothing in their join map. The difference is, they have a reputation for being completely broken in one of the hardest FE games, while lots of people don't take BR seriously, since it's one of the easiest, so it's no surprise mage Rinkah winning by attrition never caught on. Especially when Ryoma exists.
After they finish with the birthright cast, I'm 100% expecting a vid on why Effie is the best troubadour in the game
Who doesn't want a low mag troubadour you could stack either defense or mag on?
